That's a fair point. I mentioned dialects and variations because there is a tendency to believe that there's only 'one correct way' to pronounce a word -- but of course, conventional pronunciations exist for a reason.Within reason. As mentioned, different dialects mean various words have different pronunciations already.
The English pronounce lieutenant as left-tenant
American English pronounce it as loo-tenant.
There are myriad other examples as well! I definitely don’t think we should throw general conventions out the window but there’s definitely a middle ground. (Though ofc if everyone pronounced everything however they felt like, we would have a hodge-podge language that few would verbally understand lol)
