    01
    The Mantle Of Intelligence
We've got it all wrong. Evolution was never about adapting to an environment, no. It was about finding that 'spark', a 'something' that would bring not just biological change, but usher in a whole new epoch for what we perceived as our reality.
    Preface
    r e s o n a N c e

Having achieved Resonance with the remains of the broken Code of Life, whether by technological prowess or natural means, Resonators have become the next step in human evolution. They are measured by their level and type of Resonance, a new kind of biological resource that powers their unique ‘magical’ abilities. With enhanced physical capabilities and even the ability to fully regenerate limbs and organs, Resonators quickly became an elite fighting force of the Retalis Concordia Legions. They are difficult to kill, as only severe head trauma can kill them outright; nonetheless, losing vital organs such as a heart renders them completely immobilized until they can properly regenerate the organ. Resonators with the highest regeneration factor can regenerate a missing hand within an hour.

Resonance-powered abilities are also a very effective weapon against Corruptants, more so than standard KIRT weaponry. They also manifest in various forms depending on the individual:

    Surge
    001
Surge Resonance allows the user to gain a huge boost to either their strength or speed and dexterity. They gain this physical prowess through diverting and concentrating their Resonance at various parts of their body. For example, focusing all Resonance towards strength means they become slower and vice versa. They can also enhance both strength and speed at the same time, though with lesser effect than focusing on one attribute.
    Galvode
    002
Galvode Resonance allows users to enhance the Resonance of others, increasing their effectiveness by orders of magnitude. In Agents, this Resonance allows them to further enhance their own inherent Shiverskin abilities. For this reason, Galvodes must take extra precautions if they want to enhance a Machine Savant.
    Scrim
    003
Among all, Scrim Resonance is the most closely related to the corrupted sections of the Code of Life. As such, they can disrupt the swarm neural links of full-grown Splinters within close proximity. This allows for Scrims to emit mindblasts that can temporarily stun Splinters, though it would give the Scrim headaches as well. They can also ‘hijack’ up to 2 Splinters, turning them against their own kin. Additionally, Scrims are able to morph their arms into the hooks and talons of warrior class Splinters or a hardened bio-carapace of shield class Splinters. Scrims that focus on morphing gain a passive boost to their strength, making them one of the hardiest and physically strongest class second only to Surge.
    Atunity
    004
Atunity Resonance is on the opposite end to Scrim, being that they are the most in line with what remains of the non-corrupted sections of the Code of Life. They are able to ‘feel’ the presence of Resonants and Corruptants alike, though it does not amount to knowing exact positions but rather as a kind of premonition. Their main utility lies in the fact that they can tune themselves to other Resonants to mend and accelerate regrowth, using both their own self-regeneration abilities and Resonance to heal wounds. They are also capable of acting as damage syphons, nullifying a portion of physical damage that would be suffered by a fellow Resonant by rendering that damage on themselves.
    Machine Savant
    005
Resonance of the Machine Savant variety is the rarest class and is limited only to Echoes. Savants are the only force capable of utilizing WISPs that are a ubiquitous presence throughout the fallen world with the use of their resonance and mental will. When near a Machine Savant, these nano-sized particles can be made to congregate into swarms of flowing mass to physically tear, hit or obstruct. Usually jet-black in colour, WISPs will take on a faint glow that is unique to each Echo. Machine Savants can also disrupt and hijack Spliced Corruptants by brute hacking the Synthetic Cortex Mainframe of smaller Spliced Drones. It is, however, a very draining feat and the larger the Spliced, the harder it gets to hijack.

The powers of an Echo will increase in areas high in WISP density along with an increase in mental distability. Users of the Machine Savant Resonance are also encouraged to regulate usage as WISPs are a very volatile force and along with their mental disorders, they can very easily lose control over the WISPs. Unlike other Resonants, Echoes are not authorised to operate alone as they are considered ticking timebombs, capable of fully degenerating into Dissonant at any time. To prevent this from happening, Savants routinely take dissonance suppressant (DS) pills. Alternatively, if the situation is rapidly getting out of control, their ‘handlers’ must quickly inject the Echo with a Severant, essentially a specialised drug to temporarily cut the Machine Savant’s connection to the Code of Life, preventing them from warping while also nullifying their abilities for a full day.

In the absence of a Severant, powerful Atunity Resonants can try to ‘correct’ a Savant’s Resonance to prevent corruption but it often costs them their life.
    Codebreaker
The theoretical manifestation of a Resonant’s deepest and strongest desires. During the direst of situations, powerful Resonants have been known to rapidly overload their Resonance based on sheer willpower to surpass all limits in one magnum opus. More often than not, their Codebreaker personifies the objects of their strongest desire rather than the empowerment of their own preexisting abilities. While the effects of a Resonant’s Codebreaker can be theoretically guessed based on preliminary analysis, no one truly knows what will happen until it happens. There have been no known instances of Resonators surviving their Codebreaker as they either perish in the process or were in an instance of zero survivability in the first place.

EXTENDED CODEX

1. Sons of Pythagoras
"Is Man just another animal? Though well-behaved (and even this point is contentious) are we no more than a shaved monkey? Studies and history have shown us time and time again, that when driven to extremes our psyche has shown a remarkable tendency to degenerate into a very primal and savage state of mind. The rules and conducts that make up the fabric of our society disintegrate into dust the very instance perceived authority is taken away. It is a very abstract thing, these that dictate the imaginary lines that constrict the comportments of society into what is acceptable, and what is not.

The irony of our existence is that we have pursued freedom relentlessly throughout the ages, not realizing that true freedom comes at a cost. One that might well shatter the very foundations of society our forebears have worked so hard to achieve. We whine for lack of choice, but cry for help when the choice of a stronger animal is imposed upon us. Such is the foolishness of our kind. To not understand that our behaviour changes, no, warps, when we realize that there will no longer be a benevolent collective force to govern our conduct. When the consequences of our actions are reduced to nothing more than, 'can you live with yourself?' Nay I say, for while we do not have the ability to transcend this fleshy coil on our own there are higher Existences beyond our comprehension that offers the greatest rapture. If only we would reach out and embrace it."

~ The Apostle Pythagoras

It is not truly known when and where Fractal Fanaticism began. Once considered the harmless ravings of madmen, or queer beliefs of awkward but very much harmless groups of people, Fractal worship has evolved into a movement that threatens the very existence of our race. It truly became a menace when the first riots broke out in Sanctum Aaru, a mob thousand strong claiming to be sent by one they call The Apostle Pythagoras marched through the streets demanding that mankind submitted themselves prone before the Megaliths. Though the riots were subsequently quelled, it had planted a seed; or perhaps the virus had already spread. For to call Fractal Fanaticism a kind of cult, or even a religion, seemed inadequate. Calling it a plague appears more apt as it almost seems as if Fractal-mania was a kind of contagious mental disease.

Captured cultists yielded no conclusive information other than to spew random incoherent rhetorics about existence and the Fractals. At the most, we could force out their next riot or arson plans, but ironically, trying to understand Fractal worship as a fully functional sane human, was as difficult as breaking the very laws of Mathematics. One plus one equals to three. There have also been theories that suggest the differing, sometimes conflicting, philosophies indicate that the 'contagion' originates from multiple 'entities' indicating the possibility of multiple Fractal 'existences'.

The only true consistency amidst the chaos was that all fanatics believe that the Fractals are transcendent gods that offer mankind true rapture.

2. THE BADGER
ludvik-koutny-shot1.jpg

The Boswaldt Autodynamics Armoured Resonator Carrier or more fondly known as the Badger is a quick mobility command and support troop carrier primarily used by the RCL's Resonators when they need to go on extended missions. Only 2 handfuls have ever been manufactured as many Resonator teams seem to find its various utilities redundant for many of their missions.

The Badger is made with utility first, durability second, mobility third and firesupport resounding last. It's slightly larger than an Old World bus and consists of 2 levels.
Bottom levels (back to front) contain a vehicle bay that can house a couple of buggies and a Re-Fabricator to print various tools from scrap.
Top level (front to back) consist of the driver and navigator cockpit, troop seating, planning table and storage, mini kitchen and a couple of bays for resting and storage.
Rooftop. A hatch leads to the rooftop where Resonators can take up defensive positions. While decently armored, the Badger does not protect occupants from the effects of Blight.

To visualize scale, a 6 foot person in full body armour stands as tall as the Badger's tyre rims in the picture.

3. GREYLIGHT ZONES
Greylight refers to the state of shifting lighting that perpetually covers the post-apocalyptic land. Without the sun, light pulses in the shattered sky, bathing the land in muted pale greys, deep crimson or near-complete darkness at random timings. Greylight Zones refers to any regions of reality outside of the FSFs and Sanctums and that have no discernable markings. Lagrange Particles levels at these zones can range from zero to four.

4. CARTOGRAPHS
(See Codex 11: Manifold Convergence for context). A cartograph is basically a small handheld device that can act as a digital storage of the latest map of the known reality regions to be displayed on any screen or be unfurled as a physical copy. Using nano dye pockets, the unrolled Cartograph can display the last saved map even when significant Lagrange Particle levels are present. Cartographs are essential to traverse the Greylight Zones outside of safety as due to the Manifold Convergence, the unanchored regions of reality constantly change and warp. Cartographs are updated using the latest calculations from readings by the Listeners in the hidden Outposts connecting the Euclidean Leylines. As such, they can only be updated directly in an Outpost, FSF or Sanctum.

5. THE LISTENERS
There are a scarce number of Outposts existing in highly secretive Schrödinger Slipspace pockets. Slipspace pockets can remain undetected by most Corruptants by existing in a pocket reality. Approximately 4500 sqft in size (slightly larger than a basketball court) these Outposts anchor and protect the Euclidean Leylines, and contain many sensor arrays to detect the movements of the Manifold Convergence and Blight. Outposts are maned by only two people, an Echo - the Listener - and their handler. With the aid of a Supercomputer, the Listener updates Cartographs by first calculating the data from sensor readings and sending the updated information to connected Sanctums through the Euclidean Leyline network. Listener's almost never leave Outposts unless it is to resupply. The locations of Outposts are only known to FSF Commanders and whoever they deem worthy of that information. No one Commander knows the location of all the Outposts. Should the connected FSF or Sanctum fall, the Outpost will receive an order to collapse the Schrödinger Slipspace pocket, as an exposed Euclidean Leyline (on the side of the fallen Sanctum) can expose the entire network.
