I have to ask, where people really not able to see the triangle? It was always pretty obvious to me.


Either way, the ribbon sounds like a solid compromise between visibility and distractibility.
 
I can see how it would be distracting. I kind of like it but it might end with me staring at it instead of typing tbh
 
I really like it. I have to watch it to see the ping so I think it is a nice paced ping. Maybe a little slower might help. I am on my phone so maybe that makes a difference, but it is quite nice.
 
As someone with dyslexia and AD/HD, I can say the dot is not super distracting. :)
 
ah, i dislike this, personally. like others have mentioned, the animation is distracting, and the dot just seems overall very unappealing. i'd greatly appreciate an option to change it back to the wrap it was before, or even to turn the feature off all together barring that. just an opinion for your consideration. thank you for the work you do on the site, regardless!
 
I can't stop staring at the green dots! xD But I ultimately like them! It's so annoying not knowing when your partners are on when you're doing rapid fire... And they don't tell you when they get off so you're just constantly clicking refresh.... Or at least I am. xD


I don't remember seeing an "old one" shaped like a leaf???

Didn't we have this before at some point? Anyway I like it, and don't find it distracting at all. When I'm read/writing a post my eyes are nowhere near the corner of the avatar image so I don't even see the dot let alone if it pulsates or not. If it turns out to bother people, though, I'm fine reverting to what we had before *woof*





I would however suggest moving it to the top left corner. It makes more sense to me visually, and that might make it far enough to lessen the distraction factor.

I didn't find it annoying at all, but I had not considered the possibility of someone with ADD or ADHD finding it more distracting. In my experience tutoring, they do tend to have more of an eye for details like that, so even little things stand out as larger details! (which is totally awesome, by the way. A great talent when put to use!)


A little wrap-around ribbon sounds really cool =)
 
I don't mind the dot at all. To see it in the first place, I had to look around a little bit, but it doesn't seem super-distracting or anything to me.


Now that I've found it, I can definitely see it when I check, so that's not a problem.


I actually find it less invasive than the leafs, myself, but I don't have too much of a preference. It looks good to me, honestly.

I think its okay but I don't really think its necessary for it to be pulsing. The green triangle corner was much easier to see in my opinion. It was bigger then this tiny dot. It doesn't look so tiny on mobile, it seems decently sized but on laptop screen (or probably any screen bigger than a cell phone) it seems tiny. But thats just how I see it. I can see it being a bit distracting with the pulsing but not too much.


Dont get me wrong though, I think its nice and there was probably a lot of work put into it but its not like we have any other colors. Like if we had a yellow for away/online but not doing anything and a red for offline then I think it would be useful to have the pulsing green because it catches your attention to it being active. I know no dot means offline but there are people who like to be invisible. You could have them with no dot then everyone would know who was invisible or not without having to click on their profile wondering if they have been online to contact/message/reply to you.


And maybe it the dot was moved to the left side it would be a bit less distracting. Right now on the right its right next the the text and I can see why that would be distracting to maybe the left will be a little less distracting for people. I don't know if it will or will not be but its just an idea I wanted to share here.
 
I'm going to say that I personally like the old one better. It's easier to see since it's bigger, so I'd suggest making this status button bigger.

It's not too distracting for me at least, and it's a nice touch.
 
Clean, simple, less invasive on someone's avatar, I rather like it. Perhaps one day it would be possible to choose between different styles of online leafs(?)

We are going with a leaf set up soon.
 
Leafs, Dots, Ribbons...sounds like a party to me. xD And by that, I mean the Birthday Party for a young girl who adores nature and other such guff. :P


On the subject, I quite like the Pulsating Dot, but I also like the Triangle and I feel I may enjoy the Ribbon. So I say...let's just see. :)
