hair
liv has chest-length brown hair that falls in a gentle wave. for a normal day at camp, she'll tie it back in a simply ponytail, but the amount of hair she leaves out to frame her face often borders on a half-up/half-down look. for any occasion she leaves camp, she'll leave it down in a natural wave, though she does her best to tame any fly-aways before leaving.
eyes
such a dark brown you could think they're black if it's dark enough. most lighting will reveal that they're just a fairly dark shade, but under direct light, the differing shades within them can really shine. in the sun, you might be able to notice hits of cocoa and amber.
scars
liv has two major scars. the first is an abominal scar on her stomach from where she had her appendix removed when she was twelve. the second is a burn scar from when she only opened the oven halfway when trying to take out a pan of cookies at nineteen and hit her forearm on the door-- she was so shocked by it that she sat there for a second and a half before she pulled her arm back. these days, the scar is pretty faded; you'd have to have pretty keen eyes to see the fading red square of burnt skin below her elbow.
body mods
liv has pierced ears, and no visible tattoos. unbeknownst to almost all, there is a trail of butterflies on her back right shoulder. there is also a small hole in her nose from where she used to wear a stud.
features
anybody who has seen the both of them, whether separate or together, can tell that liv bears a striking resemblance to her mother, the esteemed eva twine. she doesn't have a lot that stands out on first glance, but while she lacks freckles on her face, she does develop them on her shoulders and upper arms if she gets enough sun in the summer.

traits
virtues
OBSERVANT OF PEOPLE.
liv has a master's in psychology, and even before that, she was good at reading people. liv has a good ability to see through bullshit, and if given some time, can really get to the root of why people did or said a specific thing. she also tends to notice subtle changes in people's moods or expressions. this can make liv a hard person to trick or lie to.
STANDS ON HER OWN FEET.
eva twine was never a cold mother, but she did raise her children to be independent. liv could cook more dinners than she had fingers to count by twelve, and had learned how to schedule her own doctor's appointments before sixteen. as a result, liv is quick to learn how to do things herself, and is very capable of operating with little to no help.
EASY TO TALK TO.
there is something about liv that makes her easy to spill things to. she may not be a consistent ray of sunshine, but she is often warm and pleasant to talk to, even if she may play her own emotions closer to the vest.
DEVOTED TO CLOSE RELATIONS.
liv is a person with a strong sense of loyalty. she will go out of her way to help, defend, or support people who she is truly close to. this can sometimes be a detriment to her, as it means she can often have trouble cutting ties or distancing herself from people who have hurt her. however, it makes her a good person to be close to.
vices
DOES NOT PULL PUNCHES.
there are some people you can count on to give it to you straight, and liv is one of them. she won't go out of her way to be unkind about it, and may soften it depending on how warranted it might be in the moment, but liv is often straight-forward when it comes to advice and opinions. if she thinks you were wrong, she'll tell you. if she thinks you made a huge mistake, she'll tell you.
WILL OVER-ANALYZE.
reading people comes so naturally to liv that she does it all the time, sometimes to her detriment. she is so used to studying and analyzing human behavior that a part of her thinks there's a deeper meaning to everything-- and while there's at least somewhat of an underlying meaning to most things, not everything has to be. liv does not always remember this.
CAN BE JEALOUS.
look, liv didn't have a bad childhood. growing up, her relationship with her mother was good, and she'll tell you that if you ask. what she won't add on is that as she got older, she started to resent her mother's job. she could become so focused on her work-- on these kids that needed her-- that her own kids could take a bit of a backseat. eva was never gone, and never went out of her way to be distant, but... in her pre-teen years, liv would have been happy to share less of her mother. over time, this has spiraled into a bit of a jealousy issue.
STUBBORN AS A MULE.
liv is the kind of person who hates to back down. being both book-smart and emotionally intelligent means that she generally has a pretty strong conviction that she's right, and will hesitate to admit it if she discovers otherwise. she may argue well beyond what she should to prove a point. she also tends to be stubborn when it comes to things like asking for help or doing things if she feels like she was told rather than asked when she doesn't think that person has the right to do so.
behavior
- liv is consistent in being kind to others, but she will prioritize herself over others unless she truly cares about the other person. she will help other people as long as she feels it does not have real cost to her, but will usually not take actions she feels will be to her detriment. she would defend someone in conversation, because the negative consequence here does not bother her. but liv would not step in to physically defend another person she is not close with, because that risks her own safety.
- she will be blunt with people when it comes to advice, but is willing to lie to people if she deems it necessary or to spare their feelings on occasion. while liv is usually pretty honest with her opinions, she will lie to save face, lie to get out of trouble, and lie to protect her own emotions or interests.
- liv's jealousy can also make her somewhat possessive of material items. she does not always like to share things she owns, and can be protective of personal belongings. this sometimes comes off as being materialistic.
- her analytical nature does not always extend to her internal emotional processing. on a normal day, she is pretty good about understanding why she feels or thinks the way she does, although with some unavoidable bias. when overwhelmed, distressed, or overly-confused, however, she loses this ability. this can be a large source of frustration for her, as she normally has a pretty good understanding of self.
likes & dislikes
(+) BOOKS: for a girl who had to read hundreds of pages of clinical studies, you think she'd be tired of reading. and she is-- of case studies and think pieces. however, liv loves to settle in with a good book and just spend an afternoon focusing on nothing else.
(+) SOCCER: she may not have done anything with it after, but liv played soccer all four years in high school. she was good enough that it certainly helped to have it on her application, but not enough that it made any difference in scholarships.
(+) AUTUMN: liv is a fall girl, for sure. she may spend all summer at evergreen, but she's the kind of person who lives for leaves changing colors and sweaters being pulled out of storage after a long summer spent under the sun.
(+) PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR: maybe it's the psych major in her, but liv finds that the best horror movies are psychological horror movies. the slow, almost stressful build over the course of an hour and half is a favorite of hers, although she can be quite critical of characters and their motivations.
(+) WHITE RICE: well, saying that liv loves white rice is a bit of a mislead. what it really means is that most of liv's favorite foods are the kind you eat over a bed of white rice. paneer tikka? mix it into white rice and there you go. chicken katsu curry? spread it over the rice and it's delicious. sushi? at it's base, its raw fish and their accompaniments wrapped in seaweed and white rice.
(-) PLANES: they're too high, and really, there's nothing to like about them. the take-off time is always getting moved around, it hurts to have your ears pop, and they shake if the wind so much as blows. besides the convenience, there is nothing there to like.
(-) WILLFUL IGNORANCE: liv hates telling a person something true and having them blatantly ignore it. don't ask her advice if you aren't going to follow it, and don't pretend you didn't know better when what goes down is exactly what she told you would happen.
(-) RIDING PASSENGER: liv is that person you know who has to be the one driving. not out of motion sickness or any real need. maybe it's simply the lack of control a person has sitting in the passenger seat. who knows, really?
(-) SKIING: they went a few times growing up, and let me tell you, liv was not good at it. as someone who considers themself somewhat of an athlete, trying a sport she was so naturally bad at was... humbling, to say the least.
(-) GETTING HER HAIR CUT: liv was, like many other young girls, victim to a bad bob haircut a stylist insisted would look so good! on her. as an adult who never gets her hair cut above the shoulders-- which is still pushing it, to be honest-- she still feels a surge of anxiety the stylist will mess up her every time she sits down in that chair.
background
olivia is the second child and only daughter of eva twine and kaleb meza, born only around a year after shiloh. this means that, while most counselors didn't step foot onto property until they were of age, liv was sinking her feet into evergreen grass by six years old. maybe not the whole two weeks, of course, but people around camp were quick to become familiar with the sight of eva twine kids scattered around camp, whether they were eating popsicles at her desk, following along at her heels, or running little errands for her.
as soon as she was old enough, she was attending evergreen in earnest. she was quick to fall in with renee and some of her friends, considering they were well-acquainted through their parents by that point, but she made a few friends on her own. she loved the freedom of two weeks in the woods, as well as the extra time she got to spend with her mother.
liv was, by all accounts, a mama's girl. as she grew older and watched her mother pour herself into youth outreach, it stirred conflicting emotions in her. on one hand, she was inspired by the work her mother did, how she dedicated herself to extending a helping hand to kids from all paths of life. on the other... well, there was a part of her who wished her mother could spend more of that time at home.
other than that, the twine family was peaceful in her youth. she was well-loved by her parents, got along with her brother better than most siblings did, and they lived a pretty comfortable life. not much to complain about, really.
when things changed, though, it was sudden. not too long before he was supposed to start his last summer at evergreen, shiloh canceled his acceptance for the summer and disappeared. stopped speaking to his family, ghosted his friends from evergreen, and left for college like he never wanted to look back. only liv was granted the privilege of his contact information, provided it wasn't shared.
for several years, liv walked the line between her parents and shiloh. in the beginning, eva begged to know where her son was, while kaleb was deseprate to understand what happened. liv, with a phone number and no answers for her dad, couldn't piece it together for them. all she could do was respect shiloh's choice, no matter what his secret reasons were.
it was around this time that her attendance at evergreen started to dwindle in earnest. outside of her family drama, liv was delving hard into psychology. with summer programs for high schoolers and college internships, she couldn't always manage to have the two weeks free. plus, with the way renee had iced her out after the first summer she had missed, she wasn't always the most keen on going. thus, her appearances at camp started to come few and far between.
the last time she was scheduled to appear at camp was the summer of '99, when she was 22. only a few months before camp started, however, liv got her answer to the question of why shiloh had ghosted the rest of the world. a shared bottle of wine between siblings on the thursday of her spring break had the truth spilling out-- and suddenly, a lot of things made a lot more sense. like shiloh had several years ago, she rescinded her application to evergreen that summer and mimicked his disappearing act.
it turns out, though, that evergreen's invitation for a on-site therapist was hard to pass up. after finishing her psychology masters, and having her post-grad job fall through, liv had the timing opening-- and the money, considering it will only be two weeks, isn't half bad. besides, if shiloh is walking back into the belly of camp evergreen in such a turbulent time, she can't let him go alone. can she?
reputation
PRO — many long-time attendees of evergreen remember liv in her youth: vibrant, kind, and quick-witted. she may not be close with them anymore, but for several people, positive memories linger. some counselors remember her as someone who would always lend an ear, while a few campers can recall how kind she was to them while they cried on her shoulders. older staff members, or current counselors who were coming to evergreen as young as they possibly could, might also have remember how sweet of a relationship liv and her mother seemed to have when she was younger.
CON — liv may still be kind and quick-witted, but some of her youthful exuberance has given way to a mature adult. some people find this version of her to be too changed or dull, stating that she isn't the person they remember. the clear tension in the twine family at camp this summer isn't helping, either. with shiloh and their mother clearly not getting along, and liv seemingly in the middle of them, there's a lot of room to speculate about what's driving the twine family apart. this secrecy doesn't do any of them any favors.
rumours
EVA'S CHILDREN HATE HER — as years passed and people saw less and less of both twine siblings, the rumor mill began to whisper– why would two kids so connected to a place they grew up, and one where their mom had so much sway? for some, the obvious answer was that they avoided evergreen in order to avoid their mom. like all rumors, this one grew with time. the first summer liv missed camp, they said it was because of a small fight during application season, and she was too stubborn to apply once the rift had been mended. as years went by with infrequent appearances from the twine siblings, it grew. campers who barely knew the siblings passed whispers back and forth about the private life of their esteemed director; there are some now who swear that eva’s children loathe her from the bottom of their hearts.
HERE TO GLOAT OVER RENEE'S DEATH — it's no secret that liv and renee's friendship ended on bad terms. any summer that liv returned to evergreen was marked with frosty air between the two of them. while liv has never been high on anybody's suspect list as renee's killer, there are some who whisper that she's only here to revel in the fact that a girl who supposedly ruined a place she loved is now dead.
HERE FOR A COVER-UP — there are other arguments for why, after everything, this summer happens to be one of liv's occasional appearances at evergreen. suspicion has flown around every staff member at evergreen in the wake of paige and renee's disappearance. people who have a specfic mistrust towards eva have suggested that the only reason liv is here this summer is because her mother had some involvement in the events of last year, and now she's here to help with the clean-up.
HAD A SECRET BABY — most people accept one of three reasons that liv stopped coming to camp: that she stopped getting along with her mom, that she was avoiding renee, or, like she and her mother had maintained when asked, she really was just too busy most years. there are a few, however, who whisper of a summer camp fling that ended with two pink lines on a stick. while they are few and far between, there are a handful of people who believe liv stopped attending because her last fling at evergreen resulted in a pregnancy. their opinions are split; did she stop attending because she was too occupied with raising a baby, or because it attending evergreen was a painful reminder of a baby she had to give away?
the sisters
people who remember them as kids would know that renee and liv used to be friends. not as close as she was with others, like clarisse, but the two of them were fairly tight. that was to be expected, really, considering the shared connection shared by children whose parents run a summer camp together. there were holidays and visits outside of the camp season, and liv considered herself well-acquainted with the evergreen family.
their relationship started to fracture as they got older. at fifteen, liv was starting to see how downright mean renee could be to others. discomfort settled in her chest, swelling every time she heard another mean comment, saw another person slighted.
maybe renee could tell, maybe she couldn't. what matters is what happened. at sixteen, she was offered a place in her state college's summer psychology camp-- an elite summer program with only twenty-five spots, which almost always went to rising high school seniors. passing the opportunity up would be insane. after all, imagine how good that looks on a college application? imagine what she could learn.
the catch was, of course, that the program ran at the same time as evergreen. a hard decision to make from an emotional aspect, but a decision that only had one logical outcome in the end. with her mother's blessing, liv pulled out of evergreen for the coming summer, informing a few of her friends of this decision via letter.
there were sprinkled congratulations, but the most notable response she got was from renee and paige. only a week after she'd sent out the news, she'd received their answering letter. it was scathing. so you think you're better than us, renee had written. i can't believe you would ditch us for some stupid psych program. the page had been full of vitrol, in scratchy handwriting that told her just how angry renee was.
don't write again, she'd written near the bottom. WE don't want to talk to you anymore.
'we' was right. the summer after that when liv came back, several of the people she'd once considered close had turned their back on her. whether they shared renee's disdain for her choice, or they'd be told a fabrication, it didn't seem to matter. if renee wanted her iced out, she would be.
