Space..... The Final Frontier......
Shin let his fingers tap across his touch screen tablet as his eyes searched for what he was looking for. The room around him was pitch black except for the light illuminating from his tablet. He paused for a second as he looked over the screen. Letting a finger slide up the side of the screen and then touching the center of it.
Music began to play in his ear piece as he tapped around the screen once more. Just as the song started to play for only him to hear... The lights flushed on all around him. With a few more taps on his screen the large engine before him hummed on. He made his way to it's control panel and began to press buttons and flip switches.
He took a step back as the engine roared to life even more. Shin looked to his tablet and turned up the volume on his music.
The Gallion was a large ship, which was a great understatement. The ship could carry and home 30 to 500 people comfortably. Her max would be somewhere in the thousands easily and as it stood... the Gallion was manned by a few handful... And even then, considering them a ghost crew was greatly understated.
The Gallion was to be piloted by five people, she held 17 engines and could cover great distances at great speeds for her size. But as it stood now, she was piloted by one, with some assistance from another. For most of her recent time in space, she was piloted, cared for and manned by one.
Shin adjusted the engine as needed before leaving the engine room. This was one of their smaller engines as they had many to begin with. Shin rushed through the large and small corridors making his way quickly to the second engine room he needed. This room was three times bigger than the first one. The engine he turned on this time was the size of a small house. The noise almost canceled out his music but once he adjusted the second engine, the roar became a light purr. Still loud... But the soft sound told him that the engine was working fine.
He once again left the engine room and began to run to the next room. Leaping over piles of junk lining the halls and ducking under loose hanging wires that seemed to not end. This would seem very, very normal to those who have been on the Gallion for some time. The piles of junk were used for parts Shin would make himself.
The ship flew perfectly for what it looked like on the inside. One could have a life time or two with engines or ships and be the best in their field.... Place them on the Gallion and they down right lost when looking at the engines, wiring... Anything that helped the Gallion preform would be baffle those in their field. to them it would just look like a bunch of shit just pilled together and then welded together.
Shin rushed into the next room. A room completely white with two large blue pipes sitting in the center of the large room. He dropped his tablet on the ground as he climbed up a latter to get to a metal catwalk that surrounded the two pipes. He rushed over to one of the pipes and jumped up pulling down a large lever. He did the same with the second one and then went to a large control panel nearby. Flipping switches, turning knobs and pushing buttons looked like he was conducting an orchestra. A deep hum and the sound of power rushing through the tubes echoed through the room.
Shin left the control panel and descended the latter rather quickly. Sliding down to the floor below he was quick to leap off the latter, pick up his tablet and then continue on through the large ship.
He took as many shortcuts as he could and continued to turn on or alter engines throughout the ship. This all took about an hour or so before he started to make his way to the bridge where the pilots would normally be.
Those on the ship would notice the change in the ship. Her house lights would be a bit brighter and the air would regulate much cleaner and quieter with a force behind it.
Ross sat in her Captain's office looking over a few large books. The hand writing was no doubt hers. Each new entry was labeled 'Captain's Log'. And each one was dated well with the exact star date and such titles needed. But the content of entry was what she was really looking at. She had started them almost five years ago when the Gallion first touched the Black. She smiled as she could remember so many people that had come and gone on their travels. Most were just passengers, while others were lost crew members. Only a few would remember these people... And a very small few that was.
She looked up to the lights as the room got brighter. She closed the large heavy book knowing all too well what this meant. This meant they were getting close.... Very close to their next destination. They hadn't had much work in the past few years, but somehow they were able to keep the Gallion in the air. They had finally found something worth the time and money. A large shipment of minerals and such form outer planets. They already had the goods covering one of their much larger hangers ready to be delivered to one of the smaller inner planets.
Ross left her office and started to make her way to the bridge where she knew she would soon find Shin if he was not there yet. She walked onto the bridge and smiled a little to herself as she saw Shin sitting at his Navigation's section. Tapping away on the controls and on his trusty tablet. The room was quiet.... Too quiet....
She narrowed her eyes as she looked around the large bridge. Something or more like someone was missing...
She looked back to the main entrance, or the only entrance to the bridge. She let out a light sigh before turning back to shin and walking over to him. He didn't seem to notice her as he still had his ear pieces in and his music of course was blasting into his ears.
She pulled one of the ear buds out, "Where's Aeva?" She asked. Shin jumped at the sound of her voice and almost fell out of his chair. His heart raced as he placed a hand on his chest. "Fuck Ross...." He huffed.
Ross dropped the earbud letting the cord catch on Shin's shoulder. Shin caught his breath quickly as he pulled out the other ear bud and tapped at his tablet pausing the music. "Say what now?" he asked.
Ross rolled her eyes a bit. "Aeva... The big angel guy? Where is he?" She asked. Shin shrugged nonchalantly at her question. He let his hands and half of his attention still focus on the controls before him. "Don't know really." He told her. Shin showed no signs in caring about the Avalon what so ever. But this would be seen as normal. The two got along........ But.... there was always a but involved....
But they were very aggressive with their words towards one another. Arguing at all seconds of being in the other company... Ross could not think of one time where the two could be in the same room without insulting one another. But they both did do good work together. the Gallion could thank them for that.
Ross wandered around the bridge for a minute. Letting her eyes look over the unused pilot chairs and control panels. Her eyes shifted and looked to the grand window taking over one third of the front part of the room. Every time this one spot would get her. seeing the planets coming into view as they prepared to land. Seeing the planet and space in all it's glory. Ross thought she would be use to it by now....... But she liked that she had yet to find this scene before her boring.
Meanwhile........
Val found herself in her main med bay going over files and tests she had on her computer. She was more happy with Aeva's tests than anything. It was nice that Ross participated in he studies and sometimes passengers would be ever so kind as to help her out.... But she grumbled and narrowed her eyes when she glanced at all the people she had in her data base. She had files done on all the crew members and previous ones from the past except one. Edward Shin. She hated the fact that he would never register himself into the computer's system nor would he let her do check ups on him.
There were times where the Navigator would even become almost deathly ill and he still refused her assistance. She had voiced this repeatedly to Ross and even saw that the Captain had no control over the Navigation Pilot.
She let out a large huff of air knowing that only one person on the ship really listened to her complaints about the mater. Aeva.... Ever since he joined the crew the ship had been a bit more active and lively. She smiled as she reviewed over his files, feeling like she had known him for much longer than he had been on the ship. He was indeed a looker.... But she felt a bigger connection with the Avalon.
Val snapped out of her daze when she noticed the lights and air had brightened up. She looked around and then to the time on her screen. They would be landing planet side in less than an hour or so.
She got up from her desk and was quick to move about the med bay making sure she would place away anything that could harm others in the landing. The landings were normally smooth.... But one would never really know when the Gallion would loose her grace. Even after all this time... Val was still in shock and aww at how well the Gallion preformed. She knew nothing about engines or ships.... But this one... this one she knew was special.
