Private with Sombra Arcana

My eyes immediately widened when I deciphered his last quick sentence. "Vaas...is that true?" I asked unsure. Never in my life has anyone ever said something like that to me so I thought he had to have made a mistake. The warmth of the blanket over us made me feel closer to him. Having him around made me feel safer and stronger at the same time.

I blushed and turned a little to the other side, just enough to stare at the ground for a quick second. I silently nodded at her question, while I played with the dirt with my fingers. I still couldn't believe that escaped my mouth. I really though she was cute and kind of cool and a living beauty, but how was it possible for the secret to be out so soon. D-did it bother you, Miki? I said shyly as I didn't want to gaze her in the eyes due to embarrassment.

I couldn't help, but laugh at his embarrassment. It was cute to see a man like him so embarrassed. "No, not at all," I told him honestly, "What does bother me though is that you won't look me in the eye right now." Being the leader I was used to being it was upsetting that someone wouldn't look me in the eye.

I slowly turned around and stared at her eyes. It's just that I feel a bit embarrassed. I am not sure on how to convey my feelings onto you or the reason behind that escaped my mouth. It's the truth of what I think and feel about you, though. I said as I tried to understand Miki's mannerisms and gestures before saying anything else. The night was chilly, but not chilly enough to make me feel as much goosebumps as I was experiencing for leaking out the important information of my feelings.

I smiled when he looked at me. "There is no reason to be embarrassed. If it helps I feel the same about you," I said a pinch of nervousness entering me. I ignored it not wanting more to go against my own words. I wanted to move closer to him to prove that my feelings were real, but I was afraid he may feel uncomfortable.

I couldn't believe what i heard, so I wiggled a little to get closer to her. It was barely enough for my hand to brush against hers and my feet to touch the soft skin of her legs. Pardon, can you repeat that again? I said since I couldn't believe what was happening. It was indeed a taboo to have people from different nations to fall in love or feel something for each other, but Vass was quite an unorthodox person.

"Don't make me say it again, you heard me," I said feeling my cheeks heat up. I quivered a bit as I felt his skin touch mine. I looked away remembering the taboo. It would be of great disgrace for someone of my rank to do what was frowned upon by all the nations. But, the nations were already falling apart and I've abandoned my position in search for the Avatar so why should it matter? "I'm going to try and get some sleep. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow," I said smiling a bit. I closed my eyes and moved closer to him, but not too close as to make him uncomfortable.

I smile as I felt that Miki got closer to me, but then I made my gaze fall upon the ceiling of the improvised house. I already knew that the taboo could be an issue to her, but not to me, since I never stuck to any rules at all. It was hard to believe that I have been corresponded. I had trouble falling to sleep, but after a few hours of just gazing at plain nothingness and listening to the soothing peaceful breathing of an asleep Miki, I finally was able to catch a break and fall asleep. That night, my dreams were kind of turbulent. It involved the invasion of the fire nation onto the earth nation which had left me separated from my parents, but also with a high remorse against Zoka.

The next morning I woke before Vaas and packed up the sleeping things, he'd let me use, for him. I checked and made sure the fire had gone out and adjusted my things ready for today's trek. I held Vaas's jacket in my hands and stood probed against one of the earth pillars. I sighed and rolled it around in my hands.

I grumbled a little as I rolled to a side and hit my head with the earth pillar. Did someone wrote down the plates of the carriage that ran me down? I said jokingly, just to bring a morning smile to Miki as I oke up and stretched my limbs from the turbulent rest. I yawned and grabbed the remaining things before looking at the cute maiden that was traveling with me. Today, we might be able to cross more than mid way to the grand city of Balkar!

I smiled a bit at his words and shook my head a little. I held out his jacket to him. "You think we'll get that far?" I asked waiting for him to take the material from my hands. I turned my head towards the horizon curiously. "I wonder what it's like in Balkar. You see I didn't get to do much for my own benefit back home. It wasn't often I got stationed outside the Fire Nation borders and when I did I was always busy with my duties."

I take the jacket off her hands and place it back on my backpack. Oh yes, Balkar. Balkar is a great bazaar town full of vendors and merchants. There are several hostels where we can buy to stay a night or two pretty cheaply and with a low profile. We could also get some supplies and maybe make a trade or two. I just have gone twice, but it's like a three day walk from my old town. I smiled at her and begin to walk by her side. I am debating if I should reach my hand to hers, but I'd rather better have them ready for any necessity.

"It seems like a decent place," I said as we walked through the sandy desert. After a while of silence something caught my eye off to my left. I looked over to see something dark coming toward us. The sand was whipping up in a sudden sandstorm making it hard to make out what was lurking amongst it. I squinted trying to get a better look debating whether to use my fire bending to defend us. Before I could make a desicion I felt a sharp pain enter my right thigh. I gritted my teeth and my hand flew to my leg. What I felt was metal. A dagger of sorts? I grabbed hold of it and tried to pull it out of my leg, but the more I pulled the blurry my vision grew. Was it laced with poison or something? I could feel the blood trickling down my leg as my vision grew darker and darker until I felt my body hit the ground. Everything went black.

I was enjoying the pleasant walk in silence, when I suddenly saw something impact and lunge itself on Miki's thigh. As my eyes finally got a glimpse of what it was, my eyes widened in fear. Oh no. Oh no. Probably the sand force where somewhere close. My immediate reaction was to throw a series of punches towards the direction from where the knife came, which caused a series of sand waves and earth waves to head over to the location. I gritted my teeth to keep my anger down and grabbed Miki by her wait and armpits to lift her up. I began to run as fast as I could to the first place where I could build a small earth wall.

I placed Miki down and looked at the wound. It was not big, but it had been infected with poison. I knew I had to act quickly. This might hurt a lot, Miki, but bear with me. I dragged a knife from by backpack and with no hesitation pulled out the knife from her thigh. I quickly tore the clothing around the wound, exposing her thigh and lunged my knife on the wound t make it bigger. I swallowed my embarrassment as I began to use my mouth to suck the contaminated blood out. I signaled with my hands to Miki to search in my bag for some medical supplies as fo a bandage and some alcohol.

I was jerked back to wakefulness as great pain emitted the wound from the dagger. I almost screamed, but kept myself from it when I remembered what had happened. Someone has thrown a dagger into my thigh meaning someone was out there and hearing my screams would only tell them where to strike again. I arched my back in pain as Vaas tore the wound wider. The next thing not only shocked me, but it soothed the pain a little. I looked down to see Vaas's lips planted firmly on the wound sucking from it. Through my embarrassment and the seering pain I reached into his bag and pulled out a small bottle of what must have been alcohol and a roll of some cotton bandage. I gritted my teeth as a fresh wave of stinging waged over me and handed him the supplies I'd found.

I continue to suck all the possible tainted blood from her wound. I tried to put on some pressure to help the venom leave the body. As I was applying pressure, I poured some alcohol over the opened wound. It will sting. Please bear with it. I said as I applied pressure to he place. It was in order to avoid infections and keep it from becoming worse. I grabbed quickly the bandages and placed them over the thigh and wrapped it tightly, avoiding touching inappropriate places. As I applied, the tourniquet, I made sure she was alright before I looked at the dagger again. Wait, this is...the fire nation emblem?

My leg shook a bit as the burning alcohol was poured into the flesh. I couldn't help a low painfilled groan from escaping me. After he finally finished treating the wound I sat up breathing heavily. I'd been stabbed before, but never with poison and never had I had to be treated without more proper conditions. I looked down at my now ripped black, tight fitting pants. They were issued to me as part of my uniform for the army so I had other pairs. I then let my eyes wander over to the dagger. "They've sent my own men after me..." I said with a grimace. The emblem was most definitely Fire Nation, but it was the small three digit number along the blade that made me agitated. "657 was my unit's number. They engrave the number of every unit into that unit's weapons so they can be more easily returned when lost," I explained picking up the dagger. "We never laced our blades with poison though. It must be something Zota has started."

This is a problem. I'll create a sandstorm, for us to get out of here, but we'll need to find shelter and have you rest for a couple of days. You cannot move with a wound like that and I have to take proper care of you, to see if you don't get a fever and if the poison was eliminated from your bloodstream. I said a little shaky and worried for Miki's sake. I have dealt with venom before. People tend to be bitten by rattlesnakes and cobras or stung by scorpions, so I treated them once in a while. I hold Miki close to me and carry her like a princess with both my hands. I ask her to grab the things that were scattered on the floor before, storming my feet and kicking up sand, which became twisters and sand dunes who rushed all over the place in the streaming of a sandstorm. I start to run out of the place.

I felt weak and helpless with him carrying me, but I knew I couldn't complain because it would only slow our escape. After a while we came to another oasis. "Vaas you can put me down," I told him and grabbed hold of his shoulder to boost myself out of his arms. I landed unsteadily on my good leg and tried to put pressure on the other. I grimaced as the pain worsened when trying to walk on it. "I can rest here for a bit. You go on and I'll meet up with you in Balkar. They're sure to catch up again in a little while and I'll just slow you down," I said sitting down in the sand.

I sat on the sand next to her and held her hand. I won't let you here. I won't be the kind of man that would let a friend behind to save his own life. I will start another sandstorm, we'll escape together. I looked back onto my bag and dragged out some herbal leaves and placed them in Miki's hand. This might soothe the pain. I will be changing your bandages. I slowly took a clean bandage from my bag and the bottle of alcohol. If only I had carried a needle and some thread I could maybe stitch the wound together, but then I proceeded to clean the wound and bandage it over again, applying enough pressure.

I sighed knowing there was nothing I could do to get him to leave me be. The leaves helped the pain a little, but I couldn't stop from jerking a little bit when the alcohol touched the gash. After he'd finished I pushed myself up with my arms into a standing position. "Lets get a move on," I said my breathing a little heavy. I started walking and stumbled at first when I felt pain surge through my leg, but kept moving. I was rather slower than normal and it was irritating, but I wasn't going to stop; I wasn't going to let Vaas get caught because of me.

I brought out a scarf and placed it over Miki's neck and mouth to cover from the relentless sandstorm I then streamed up with my fists. I hurried to Miki's side and gave a brush of my lips against the nape of her neck before holding her close and helping her walk with the support of my own body. If we were to travel in this condition, we would surely be slowed down, but we could reach safely to the grand bazaar and search for a doctor.

I was grateful for the addition of the scarf keeping the sand out of my mouth and off my neck. When I felt the soft touch of his lips on the back of my neck I shivered even though it was scorching. His touch sent tingles down my spine, but I was beyond happy that I wasn't having to put too much weight on my injured leg with his help. "How much farther do you think we have?" I asked my voice muffled by the scarf.

I touched my chin as I tried to recall the walking distance towards the great city. I rubbed it for a while, as my mind went through all the trips I did back and forth from the place from time to time. I muffled my voice with my hand before speaking towards Miki. I think it should be around a day and a half with these pace. We might just barely do it in time before our medical supplies finish. I said with a huge worry on my face and with honest and earnest interest for Miki's safety.

"I'm just slowing us down. We won't make it in time before they catch up with us and most likely this wound will get infected and make our pace even slower," I said irritably. I stopped and shook Vaas off. "If you won't leave me then the least I can do is close up this wound temporarily," I said dropping to the ground and removing the bandages. Afterwards I snapped my fingers and they lit with flames. I held the flames over the wound like a welding torch. I gritted my teeth as the skin began to burn.
