A pokemon adventure set in the brand new region of Arkona

Alarmed and Strangerous
Panadoor Town, the shrine of hope, ten months ago.

"How fitting that it should begin here," a man muttered to himself. THe man was tall, well built and handsome, with curly, salt and pepper hair and a neatly trimmed beard. He wore a well tailored linen suit and he stood in front of a weathered, stone monolith that seemed unspeakably ancient. A simple, rectangular slab of stone, the monolith was covered with faint grooves and and indentations that might have once been legible writing or pictograms, but time and wind had long since worn away the details. This erosion of detail didn't seem to bother the man, he extended a hand forwards and gently traced the faded lines, seeming to trace shapes that were invisible to the naked eye.

With his other hand, man reached up to his chest and pulled a necklace he had been wearing over his head, the centrepiece of whicvh was a strange, round piece of stone. "With this a new era will begin, an era of absolute truth," whispered the man, his tone almost reverent as he pushed the round stone into the centre of the monument. Suddenly the stone began to glow with an eerie blue light, that begin to extend out from it along the surface of the monument to recreate the patterns that had been worn out of the stone.

THe light intensified, to the point that the man was forced to close his eyes and shield them with an arm and he began to laugh. "IT BEGINS NOW!" He roared, triumphant into the silent night sky...

Arkona News Daily Studio, Laminrinth City, present day.

"Hi I'm William Bucke, welcome back to Arkona news daily!"

William Bucke has been the anchor for ten years now. In his career William had covered everything from natural disasters to talent shows, from shocking murders to the recent, miraculous influx of Pokemon into the region. Today might be a momentous occasion in Arkona's history and a life changing first step for the young trainers inovlved, but for William it was just another day at the office, one he intended to cover with his usual professional aplomb.

"If you're just joining us now, our top story has of course been the official opening of Arkona's brand new gym circuit. In the lead up to the big moment we've been interviewing various experts to explore how the new gym league will affect area such as international relations; trade and the domestic economy and safety and infrastructure. However now we are closing in on the moment we've all been waiting for: Professor Olive, the chief scientist of the Arkona league challenge, is insided her lab, preparing to officially hand over pokedexes and starter pokemon to the first generation of Arkona's offocial trainers. We go now to Kathy Vespera, our reporter on the scene. Kathy how's the mood there in Panadoor town?"

The camera feed transitioned smoothly from the slick AND studio to a shot framing an attractive woman with medium length brown hair standing in front of a handsome, brick building that had been modified with some sophisticated looking antennas and external generators.

"William here on the ground the mood is eager. As you can see the weather is beautiful and a good sized crowd of people and pokemon has turned out to watch the proceedings,"

Kathy shifted to the side slightly and gestured and the camera panned to indeed reveal a healthy crowd of spectactors, chattering among themselves as they waited patiently, but eagerly. A few local businesses had even thrown up hastily assembled stalls and were dishing out cheekily overpriced street food and souvenirs to the captive audience, filling the air with an enticing array of scents liable to se the noses of pokemon and some people to sniffing curiously.

"Most of our debuting trainers are probably among the crowd somewhere: although Professor Olive has yet to emerge from her lab she is scheduled to do so imminently: Although I've been told by locals t hat some of the trainers might have decided to pay a visit to the shrine of hope a local monument said to bring good luck to those embarking on a journey,"

Even though Eric already had his starter he didn't want to miss the opening ceremony of the gym circuit. Sure Galar did something similar every year and that connection did make him a bit uncomfortable but he felt it was different enough since it also included trainers getting their first Pokémon. Plus it was the first time that the Gym challenge, which he wanted to undertake as well, would be held in Arkona so it was an once in a life time event. Since it was a bit of a walk from Laminrinth City he had left two days ago and he was glad he did. As expected Panadoor Town was full of both (aspiring) trainers and tourists and Eric only barely managed to get a place to sleep in the Pokémon Center when he arrived.

On the day of the ceremony itself he was happy to see that many local businesses were able to take advantage of all the hubbub. While keeping an eye on both his Pokéball and his wallet, in case there were any thieves in the crowd he browsed the stalls, and while somewhat upset about the clearly raised prices bought several more snacks and cheap souvenirs, including a clearly unofficial Steeltype badge that resembled Honedge.

After he finished shopping he made his way towards the lab, where not only a large crowd had already gathered but he saw Kathy give a report on the proceedings. Despite not being a huge fan of Arkona news daily he stuck around since it was almost time for Professor Olive to show up and to hand out the Starters.

Today had perhaps been one of the busiest days of Dusk’s life. He’d made his way to Panadoor Town from Galessia early in the morning but had taken much longer to get here than he expected. While route A1 was a very mild route the influx of new Pokémon to the region had caused Dusk to be much more careful on his trek over and thus delayed him quite a bit. He hadn’t expected the problems that would come with his late arrival though. Among the natives of the Arkona region there were quite a few trainers who had been blessed with the opportunity to be sponsored by the region and supported by the lab here. Dusk was not one of those trainers. Already owning a Pokémon and not wanting to take from what other trainers might need he had applied for a different position.

He was instead now a proud Aide (unpaid intern) of the Panadoor Town Pokemon Lab. An admirer of Professor Olive’s dedication to her research today was meant to be his first day, however thus far he hadn’t even been able to make it into the lab. The number of reporters crowding outside was just too numerous and not yet receiving a lab ID he turned away every time he tried to get past them. Perhaps it was their way of trying to respect the professor and not let any troublemakers by. For now all he could do was sigh and join the crowd with the other eager trainers waiting for the Professor’s appearance. Thus he had been sitting outside the lab with Thorn for the past hour and a half, droning out the noise of the crowd.

“Just our luck huh? Let’s hope we don’t get in too much trouble. I mean we technically weren’t late.” Thorn simply looked up at him, as if pitying his hopes before lying it’s head down once more.
