Chilling Water and Ice Body... Interesting...

This was a far bulkier Glaceon than she had anticipated, but no matter. Iwa cringed and made a blubbering shrill-sounding gasp at the cold water. It didn't do a lot, but it did numb her a little, dropping her attack.

She at least had a couple more moves up her sleeve before she felt like she should switch.

"Beat Up!" Iwa glowed with a dark aura and six shadows emerged from her before they charged at the Glaceon, pincering in with their attack with two on either side as the other four came in from different directions.

Candice laughed as Naka called for Beat Up. Sure, that move could circumvent the stat drop from Chilling Water, but the move on its own was…rather weak. Regardless, Candice had no intention of just letting it land. Now that Glaceon was at +2 Sp. Atk, it was time to leverage their fire power!

“Full Power, blow everything away with «Blizzard»!”

The snowstorm raged as Glaceon opened her mouth—a terrifying gale ripped across the battlefield, empowered by Glaceon’s Never-Melt Ice as she literally blew everything away. The Shadows couldn’t hope to hold together beneath this frosty tempest and, even if they had, the lingering water from just a moment prior would freeze and hinder Wishi-Washi’s movements. And even if that failed as well, Glaceon herself was already gaining distance rapidly. ‘‘Everything’, of course, included Glaceon herself and the fresh snow pokémon had known to loosen her grip and stay light on her feet so that she could borrow the blow-black from Blizzard to dart well out of range. With a single stroke, Candice showed her mastery.

With Iwa's bulky special defense - even with that Calm Mind set up - Iwa wasn't blowing away by the Blizzard. However, the Beat Up missed and she was buffeted by the harsh winds.

She clicked her tongue. "Flip Turn."

Cloaked in water which froze slightly from the harsh winds, Iwa slapped her fin against the ground to quickly go around in a wide 'U' shape, intent on hitting the Glaceon so they can switch out.

Candice grinned evilly as Wishi-Washi closed in. “Ice it, «Freeze-Dry»” The Schooling Pokémon rushed in for what Naka must’ve thought would be a cheeky little switch-out. Instead, Candice intended to K.O. the fish on the spot, nailing it with a super-effective Freeze-Dry immediately after it had been hit by Blizzard. Although it would’ve resisted Blizzard, the most powerful of Ice-type moves would’ve left it with enough chip damage for Freeze-Dry to pick up an easy K.O.

Wishi-Washi weren’t exactly renown for their speed and Glaceon had more than enough time to fill its lungs with a dreadful cold and released it directly into the on-coming fish!

Naka knew this was going to happen. Pressing her lips together, she gave a sort of grave huff. "Shoot that shell, Ice Beam!" Now that the Blizzard had frozen enough of the water that cloaked the Wishiwashi's front, the Wishiwashi sent a beam of ice out, pushing the shell off its body and covering it from the Freeze-Dry, causing the shell to crack and break from the sheer moisture-sucking cold.

The shell held up long enough for the Wishiwashi to slam her tail on the ground to make a short, airborne arc onto the Glaceon, her body cloaking in water at the last second as she went back to using Flip Turn.

What a clever little maneuver! Candice tittered as the Wishi-Washi was able to just barely evade defeat. However, the Snowpoint Gym Leader wasn’t worried in the slightest. Glaceon all but shrugged off the damage caused by Flip Turn. Between the Wishi-Washi’s lowered offenses and Glaceon’s own defenses being bolstered by the snow, even that super-effective iron tail wasn’t a crippling blow, much less a weaker Flip Turn.

That said, Candice didn’t forget to take advantage of the situation at hand—“«Hail»!”

So she refreshed the weather while Naka switched pokémon. If Nakano wasn't quick, she'd even go for another cheeky Calm Mind.

With Iwa finally in her ball, Naka knew just who to send out.

Smirking, she threw out her next Pokeball right as Hail was being reconstructed. Out came her fiery monkey. Hanu the Infernape screeched in challenge with an Expert Belt tied prettily around his waist, pointed at the Glaceon, and wiggled his fingers at them with a cheeky smirk. Hanu didn't even have Taunt as a battle-ready move right now, so all it did was make Naka cringe.

"Mach Punch!" Not even wanting to give this Pokemon a chance, the Infernape's fist glowed orange before becoming a blur, appearing before the Glaceon to smash his fist downwards with a gleeful, challenging glare, the fist feeling much stronger in comparison to a normal Infernape's punch.

Infernape, yes. Approximately a third of all trainers who challenged Candice possessed an Infernape and one could say the Ice-Type Gym Leader and her pokémon were extremely familiar with the monkey pokémon. That’s why Candice barely batted an eye as Infernape zipped forward with Mach Punch—she, know Glaceon could more than withstand a few of those blows while in-turn? Well, at +2 Infernape would struggle to withstand more than a few chilling waters.

The monkey pokémon was nimble however, and Candice knew better than to let it dance out of her grasp. They would need to trade blows to ensure their own attack landed, but that was a trade well worth making. “Go Glaceon—«Chilling Water»!”

Even as Infernape closed in, Glaceon began to prepare its watery revenge. The Fresh Snow Pokemon timed its liquid payload for the moment Infernape closed in—it exposed its body and transformed Infernape’s own punch slamming into its body into the trigger for the release of Chilling Water. The Numbing flow was fired directly into the ground, where Glaceon’s +2 special offense gave the torrent such force and pressure that the water rapidly sprayed in all directions. It would be incredibly difficult, practically impossible for Infernape to evade under such circumstances!

With a screech, the Infernape's downward punch landed, and he pushed off unceremoniously from the Glaceon's back. He flipped into the air, the Chilling Water splashing up, hitting his arm before he could retract it, making him shiver as it did some decent damage.

"Stone Edge!"

Infernape curled up and was upside down, a ring of pointed stones materializing around his front before they grew in size and were fired towards the ground and the Glaceon, hitting the water droplets coming at him to disperse the spray from hitting him. With a nimble catch, he stood on one hand as he landed on one of his pointed stones now sticking out of the ground, preventing himself from touching the rest of the Chilling Water that laid on the floor.

In the midst of danger lied opportunity! Candice’s eyes narrowed at the call for Stone Edge, “Stay focused Glaceon!” The Jagged stones slammed into the Fresh Snow Pokémon and even with its bolstered defenses and recovery, it was clear that Glaceon neared its limits. Another attack like that would take it down, but not before it took down Infernape!

The Fighting-Fire Monkeys weren’t the bulkiest of creatures and well, Glaceon’s offenses were nothing to scoff at even before it was boost to +2. Paired with it’s Never Melt-Ice and the earlier chip from a +2 Super Effective Water type move and Infernape was at risk of falling to a well-placed Blizzard or two—so that’s exactly what Candice called for! The Gym leader grinned and punched forward, there was heat in her voice as she made the call—“Show no mercy, «Blizzard»!”

The rubble remains of Stone Edge that had buried Glaceon now exploded with gale-force winds as Glaceon’s cry, the cry of the storm, shook the Gym. An maelstrom of ice, snow, and rock fragments swept over the battlefield and towards Infernape, seeming to come from all directions at once as Hail made it incredibly difficult to evade! Infernape was unlike to survive such a blow, but if it did it would emerge to a battlefield completely changed. The earlier Chilling Water and Stone Edge had created faux stalagmites which had then been frozen over by Blizzard. Now the battlefield was glazed in a sheet of ice, only slightly broken up by frozen pillars of Stone Edge that scrapped the skies.

It was a beautiful sight and Candice truly hoped Infernape had survived the Blizzard so it could witness the changed battlefield—it could at least witness this beauty before the residual damage of Hail claimed it.

Hanu saw the blast of rock and water as the icy wind engulfed the stage. It was enough to make Naka cover her face with her arm.

"Mach Punch!"

Hanu's fist glowed and he charged through the torrent of snow and hail, smelling blood as he was close to finishing off this Glaceon, he could just taste in the air - as well as the sharp sting of the Blizzard hurting him.

In a blur, he brought his fist down on the Glaceon, wanting to stop its torrential Blizzard once and for all.

A final Mach Punch finally brought Glaceon to its knees as the fresh-snow pokemon could withstand no further punishment. Candice held out Glaceon’s Pokeball and withdrew it as the referee’s flag came down and the first KO went to Naka. The Snowpoint Gym Leader wasn’t perturbed, Glaceon had done spectacularly and at least two of their opponent’s pokémon were on their last legs. In fact, Candice was almost certain her next pokemon wouldn’t even need to attack since the damage from hail would be more than enough to finish off this Infernape. Still, Candice wasn’t going to take Naka lightly—after all, cornered Ratatta bit the hardest.

“It’s your turn, Mamoswine! Use «Stealth Rock»!”

This time Candice let her pokéball fly onto the battlefield with an energetic toss and the glazed ice cracked slightly as her Mamoswine took the field. Almost immediate, several stones materialized before they shot into the air and quickly faded from view. Stealth Rock was a small move, but Candice knew it could be especially handy when that Wishi-Washi came back and it would ensure Naka diidn’t get too comfortable using moves like U-Turn or Flip Turn.

Not wasting a second, she returned her Infernape quickly, not wanting him to incur anymore hail damage.

However, before she could even send out her next Pokemon, Mamoswine was sent out and released a flurry of Stealth Rocks above. She clicked her tongue in agitation before sending out her Hatterene.

The tall pink Pokemon, using her hair as a sort of makeshift tower, hat, and hand all in one, braced for the incoming Stealth Rocks. It hurt, but she was relatively fine. She was sure the attempt at creating Psyshock wouldn't work, as the glass would break.

Now that she was ready, she readied herself for an attack, her Covert Cloak wrapped around her protectively to protect her from the secondary effects of moves.

"Giga Drain." Green orbs appeared around the Hatterene as she sent forth her attack, glowing orbs that stole life force and returned it to her. She was definitely going to need it, being the bulky cleric of the group.

Still, a Chansey with Eviolite would've been the better choice.

“Go—«Heavy Slam»” Mamoswine’s body turned steely, its hooves digging deep, a one-mammoth stampede as it charged across the field to bear down on Hatterene. It's muscle band contained its bulging musculature, adding just that much more oomph to each of Mamoswine's physical blows.

The covert cloak meant Candice couldn’t fish for a paralysis with Body Slam, but that hardly mattered as two or three Heavy Slams would be more than enough to finish off the forest witch either way.

Hatterene scoffed at the incoming brute. Of course it would use such primitive means to fight. Hattie used her hair to grab a nearby icy stalagmite to pull herself away, the last bit of her body hit by the Heavy Slam. Even with the distance she had from the mammoth, this thing was still fast. Growling in indignation, she sent forth another series of orbs to heal herself, using Giga Drain once again as she perched herself atop an icy stalagmite. If she had to ride this brutish mammoth-swine, she would.

Naka hissed as the pressure began to build. She knew that her Hatterene wouldn't be able to last very long, and if this Mamoswine had Rest? She doubted Hatterene had the strength to beat him before he woke up. And, it likely had Thick Skin. Plus, it was extremely physically bulky, she needed a special attacker that wasn't going to be using Fire-Type attacks. Biting the inside of her cheek, she prepared to sacrifice. She could return her Hatterene, but she also knew that Mamoswine was likely packing Freeze-Dry. Should she risk it? Use up her switch?

At this point, she might. She'll make a decision with Mamoswine's next attack.

“Slam it—«Earthquake»!” Candice snapped, voice and gesture combined into a quick reaction. She would not be evaded by such a simple maneuver. Mamoswine came down with the force of a thousand mammoths, it’s Heavy Slam seamlessly transforming into an Earthquake that shook the world! The seismic waves shattered the ice underfoot, creating a field of glass-like shards, but more importantly the icy stalagmite beneath Hatterene’s feet would shatter into shards of ice fragments that would pelt her and, with her very perch shattering beneath her feet, she’d be caught in mid-air. If she couldn’t recover fast enough, she would have no choice but to catch these 3 ft tusks! And Mamoswine was already charging once more, heedless of the Giga Drain that landed on its body!

Alright, that was enough.

As Earthquake was being called, she pulled out a quick-switch. Returning her Hatterene before she took anymore damage and disrupting her Giga Drain, Naka used her free switch-in to send out her Ludicolo, who not only ate up that Earthquake like it was dinner, situating Ludwig on the field where the ice chunks won't pierce into him, but also - unfortunately - taking those pointed stones. A Big Root sat snug around the cone of his lily pad hat.

The hazards were the least of their worries, as the Mamoswine had begun its charge. At least the Hail wasn't active this time.

"Fake Out!" The Ludicolo's hands blurred and they clapped, unleashing a flinching shockwave at the Mamoswine.

Taking this moment, she gave another command. "Teeter Dance." The Ludicolo danced in a whimsical fashion, his body doubling, then tripling in close mirages as he hypnotically danced to confuse the target.

Another switch? Candice pursed her lips as she eyed Nakano’s next Pokémon—Ludicolo. A swift Fake Out caused Mamoswine to flinch in it is tracks and Naka capitalized to shoot off a quick Teeter Dance. The Snowpoint Gym Leader could only click her tongue and hope for the best—she wasn’t going to waste this chance. Given all the damage Mamoswine had taken from the earlier Giga Drains and this bit of chip from Fake Out… “«Endeavor»!”

Mamoswine’s tusks THRASHED, and with Ludicolo dancing right in-front of it, evasion would prove difficult. This single blow would’ve decimated Ludicolo’s health, and no doubt sent it flying across the battlefield. It was a real shame Hail had ended because otherwise Ludicolo would’ve been all but defeated already. Candice didn’t mind though, Ludicolo wouldn’t last another attack anyway. Candice rolled the die on confusion once-move, eager to take her first KO—“Once more «Earthquake»!”

Although Mamoswine raged it appeared to hear its trainers voice and its reared onto its legs and prepared to decimate the battlefield and its opponent once more.

That Endeavor really sucked, the Ludicolo having been blasted back quite a ways, standing in front of Naka now. But, he soldiered on, sending out spheres of green, draining energy as Mamoswine was mid-execution of the Earthquake move. Naka knew Ludwig wouldn't get a whole lot of energy from Mamoswine, but it was going to help at least.

She almost felt bad for taking away the knockout, but she also knew that the next Pokemon would likely be a fast one to get rid of Ludicolo - or at least one that had a priority move.

Candice’s grin was almost shit-eating as she returned Mamoswine and selected her next Pokémon—“It’s your turn, use «Fake Out»!”

Mimicking Naka’s play just a moment earlier, Candice’s chosen Pokémon became a blur of motion as soon as it appeared, racing towards Ludicolo to slam its claws together and create a shockwave. That alone should’ve been enough to fell Ludicolo, but if it somehow survived the blow then Candice’s Weavile would make short work of its remaining health with «Ice Shard» otherwise the Gym Leader would idly twirl the sleeves of her sweater, a picture of innocence while she called for a cheeky «Sword Dance» while Naka switched Pokemon.

She clicked her tongue as the next Pokemon that was sent was too fast for her to return her Ludicolo for later. Her Ludicolo flinched and shuddered and Naka chuckled as she saw the trademark appearance of a Weavile. During the flinch, she returned her Ludicolo, letting the Weavile use Swords Dance.

She chuckled. "Trick Room!"

As the Hatterene with her Covert Cloak made her second appearance and was damaged by the Stealth Rock, the room began to shift and distort, slowing down fast Pokemon and speeding up slow ones.

She knew that Candice would go for an Ice Shard to at least give herself some speed. Almost all Weavile came packed with it. She knew Hatterene could take the hit, even at +2 Attack, so she continued. "Psychic Terrain!"

A strange distorting mist covered the field, preventing the use of priority moves and increasing the power of Psychic-Type attacks. However, Psychic wasn't what shye had in mind.

Naka’s use of her third switch had Candice raising a skeptical brow. The Ice Type Leader didn’t mind getting off a free Sword Dance as Naka twisted dimensions with Trick Room & Psychic Terrain. Naka’s play was surely complex beyond imagination and Candice wasn’t going to wait around and see what it was. Despite Weavile’s speed being hindered by Trick Room, Candice was certain that it’s Focus Sash would let it handle whatever Hatterene could dish out and in-turn annihilate the Forest witch with a powerful boosted «Night Slash».

“Finish it Weavile, «Night Slash»” Candice wasted no time and Weavile moved—slowly but assuredly encroaching on Hatterine as its claws blackened with darkness. If Hatterene fell to this blow—as Candice suspected it would, on account of the residual damage from its battle with Mamoswine and stealth rocks—then Weavile could take the opportunity to boost itself even further while Naka switched, getting off yet another Sword Dance.

Naka knew that her Hatterene would be able to take another Stealth Rock, or at least, she'd have found a way to handle that annoying hazard later. She returned the Hatterene, using up her fourth free switch as she sent out her Swampert, who was damaged by minimally by the Stealth Rocks.

"Counter."

Her Swampert, equipped with an Assault Vest, glowed with a subdued orange light. Since Counter had decreased priority, it wasn't negated by Psychic Terrain, and Swampert - at any other time - was faster than the Weavile. The bulky, scarred Swampert awaited with a gleeful smirk, as Naka had quick-switched the two so the Weavile was going to hit the Swampert instead.

All kinds of calculations rans through Candice’s mind. Why would Nakano use her fourth switch here!? Was she so confident in her ability to handle the last three Pokémon in Candice’s team? She must’ve had some solution for Stealth Rock as Candice was nearly certain that a number of Naka’s Pokémon would immediately fall to the hazards upon being brought back in.

Her latest switch brought in Swampert who’s swift «Counter» dealt Weavile a devastating blow. If it hadn’t been holding a Focus Sash, then no doubt Weavile would’ve fallen on the spot. However, with its sash in-claw, Weavile just barely held on and Candice wasted no time, after Stealth Rock chip they could just as easily take Swampert for a KO instead of Hatterene—“Uhhh, just keep going Weavile «Night Slash»!”

Weavile’s claws gleamed black as it moved to sweep them once-more across Swampert body, ready to fell the behemoth moments after its first appearance.

Naka sighed. She knew she was getting dangerously close. Five of her Pokemon were weakened, but she did manage to get through Candice's two Pokemon, now a third.

"Get back and use Sand Tomb." She commanded, a bit more subdued. She'd have to be careful now.

Not wanting to get hit a second time, the Swampert stepped back and let loose a stream of entrapping sand. That Weavile was barely holding on, it didn't matter what she threw at it. It'd go down to one hit.

But now, she had to set up so Hatterene had enough time to pop up her final move. And she knew Candice's next Pokemon would be slow. Probably a Lapras.
