It's all Krys could think about. They had graduated Ranger school about half a year ago at this point. They joined the ranger school because of the fact it would give them the ability to help others, all while also allowing them to be able to explore other regions and learn about new legends and cultures. Of course, even though that was the reason they joined, they'd been stuck in Almia for a while before they ever stepped foot in a new region. Their mentor Summer had wanted them to get some practical experience in a familiar area before venturing too far from home.
Luckily with their last mission, they finally upgraded to Ranger Rank II and Summer promised to help them transfer locations after that. So now here they were, on the back of a Staraptor, the strongest pokemon they've managed to befriend to date, flying next to Summer with no clue what amazing region their mentor had planned for them. Maybe she would take them somewhere like Kalos or Unova to train from rangers of different cultures, or somewhere exotic like Alola... though it's not likely that Summer would base them in a region that doesn't have any major rangers already.
They had been daydreaming so long about where they might end up, that they almost missed Summer slowing down and starting her descent. "Krys get your head out of the clouds already, we're here!" Of course, this was meant both literally and figuratively. Krys dipped below the cloud cover to see where they would be calling home for the foreseeable future, and it was certainly different then they had expected. In front of them was not one of the major regions they had seen in textbooks or magazines or heard about on the news; instead before them was a series of islands they had never seen or heard about before. They heard Summer's voice over their communicator, "Welcome to Oblivia, my old stomping ground. I spent a long time here, and made it my home once upon a time. I figured it would be a perfect place for you to come into your own as a ranger, especially since it's similar to Almia in that the people here don't typically use pokeballs. Should give you a bit of adventure without being too much of a culture-shock."
Krys was a bit apprehensive to say the least. They had gotten their hopes high with wanting to explore a new region, they just assumed they would get to go to one they had heard of before. Then they thought about it, and realized that this was a perfect opportunity. The fact that they had never heard about it, probably meant that it was less popular of a region and therefore, less explored. They had the ability to both follow in their mentors footsteps, and see things never seen before. They touched down right on a big wooden stage in the center of town, only for an older man in his own ranger gear to approach them. "Geez kid, you always did know how to make an entrance."
Oblivia, a region known for its beautiful weather, rich history and large amounts of islands. It used to have more islands though, and remembering that detail always made Ezio's heart sting. It was a crime that Dolce Island got evaporated by selfish and dangerous individuals, and the incident naturally made Oblivians wary of outsiders. Ezio had been in Oblivia before though, and he was on good terms with the local Area Ranger Rand and his family. Leanna was a great source of information about the region and in particular the Steelhead armor. This set of armor had intruiged him ever since discovering a lost set of Temple Guardian armor a couple months ago.
Ezio had decided to fly over towards Oblivia on his Aerodactyl after Leanna contacted him for a joint research program regarding the lost temples of Oblivia. She had found a temple that she labelled as the Forest Temple due to its location amidst a dense forest, and Ezio just could not resist such a discovery. Before long, he had reached the shores of Renbow Island and landed on the beach near the carpenter Booker and Cocona Village. "Good job, Evi. Go get some rest." The ruin maniac scratched his Fossil Pokémon along her jaw before recalling her into her Pokéball.
"Oblivia, what a place." The man said with a content smile, letting out a sigh as he took in the sights. However, he wasn't the only visitor today as it seemed like there was a commotion in Cocona Village. He might as well check it out, now that he is in the area.
"The entrance was necessary, after all I had to make sure you showed up." Summer and the strange man just stared at each other for a little bit, as if they were daring the other to make a move. Krys wasn't sure what was about to break out and readied themselves, trying to deduce what the relationship between these two was. They quickly found that this was unnecessary though when they broke their stand-off and went in for a hug.
"It's good to see you Summer! You haven't changed a bit... except for the fact that it seems like you took it upon yourself to grow up while you were gone. Almost didn't recognize you it's been so long. Weren't you still a kid last time I saw you?"
"Hey, I'm not the only one who aged, I don't remember you being an old man last time I saw you either." This response seemed to make the man just laugh heartily, unbothered by the jab. Summer was laughing right alongside him, at least until she noticed Krys' confused look. She then spoke up, "Anyway, where are my manners. Krys, this is Rand, the Area Ranger of Oblivia. I spent a lot of time with him and his family back when my partner and I were helping this region. He's an experienced Ranger and a good friend. I asked him if he would be willing to oversee you for your first assignment outside Almia."
"Pleasure to meet you kid, Summer's told me quite a bit about you before you arrived, I look forward to working with you! Though I do hope that your stay here isn't quite as hectic as your mentor's." He chuckled at his own joke for a minute before sticking out his hand for a greeting.
Krys hesitated for a moment, they wanted to take in the man who was supposedly going to be overseeing them for the foreseeable future. Summer clocked the man as old which didn't seem like an off assessment, he was likely around his 40s or 50s if not older. He was wearing a ranger uniform, but it seemed to be an older style as it seemed different from any recent uniform they'd seen. Despite his age, Rand was very fit. Krys was sure that he would still be able to jump into action as well as any other ranger they knew, and he most likely had the experience to back him up. With their assessment of the man completed, they shot out their hand to meet his. "Krys Ellington, I'm excited to work with you as well! I'm sure there's plenty you can teach me, for instance, I'd love to know more about this region. I've never even heard of Oblivia before today, and seeing as you're the Area Ranger, I can't imagine a better person to learn about it from!
As Krys and Rand were getting aquainted, Summer mounted her Staraptor. "Well Krys, this is where I leave you. You two be good to each other. If you need anything, you know how to reach me." She locked eyes with Krys, "Though, knowing you, you'll be just fine." With that she took off into the sky. Krys was slightly upset knowing that they still won't get to train directly under their mentor, but was excited about their new adventure all the same.
