Welcome to the world of Poke`mon! My name is Professor Finbar Redwood, and if you're receiving this letter it means you have been selected to attend Redwood's poke`mon Trainer instruction course. Along with this letter of congratulation, you should have received a Trainer Card Application, as well as a legal waiver for your parents to sign. Remember, as big of a part of our world as poke`mon may be, they're still powerful magical creatures and you and your parents must agree to the risks associated with poke`mon rearing. More details will follow in class orientation, so good luck and have a wonderful day!Reach for the stars,
Professor Finbar Redwood
You are a brand new trainer who has received an invitation to learn to become a poke`mon trainer. If you graduate the course you will be awarded petty cash as well as a starting poke`mon of your choice, based either on your performance in the academy or chosen at random (undecided at this time). Whatever your character's backstory, you must be at least 13 years old, and either currently living or arriving in the starting town of Hueville. Your first posts should begin just before you receive the welcome letter, and end at you entering the Academy to attend orientation. you are not limited to being a teenager, but should have a reason for not becoming a trainer earlier in life since most, if not all children would have been invited to attend the school around age 13. This game's setting is more mature than poke`mon's typical settings, and may sometimes get dark or more adult themed, but content will still remain appropriate for a teen audience
It goes without saying that all of RP nations rules must be followed. in addition to any rules RP nation has, the following rules apply. Ignoring or going against any of the rules will result in your removal from the RP
1. No god-modding or power play.
2. In any battle or contest the outcome will be decided by me unless the players involved agree on a winner before hand.
3. All posts are required to be part of the RP. no comments or conversations, you can send personal messages for those.
4. Any disagreements among players must be brought to my attention if they cannot be resolved within reason. i will make the final decision in any and all arguments regarding or effecting this RP
5. Any romantic pairings or "team ups" must be agreed to by all parties involved.
6. You play your character. you do not control the actions or responses of other characters or GM controlled characters.
7. One character per player unless approved by me.
8. As GM of this RP i may add or remove rules as i see fit.
9. Consult me before you decide on anything that would make your character a "special snowflake". Examples include being a celebrity, seeing a legendary, or being known or famous for something great. It can include other concepts such as being a hero or having a special talent of some kind. essentially anything that makes you more "awesome" than a normal person should be run by me to keep things fair and "realistic". Most people go their entire lives without seeing a legendary for example, so it would be unlikely you've seen any.
10. You may not play pokemon and pokemon may not talk. You may control your pokemon's actions within reason such as when you are battling or commanding your pokemon or if you are interacting with your poke`mon. Other than that, your pokemon are npcs and therefore are controlled by me.
Although all role plays are a collaborative story, to keep things organized I will have the majority of control over narration and events. During narration I may control actions or physical responses of characters and poke`mon that would be outside of character's control or necessary for story. If there is something within your player's control, you will be giving opportunity to post in response to these narrations, if not i will complete the narration and you will be free to act accordingly. When necessary, I may restrict you to a limited number of posts in response to each of my posts. In addition, there will be a number of non-played characters run by myself. in some cases they may be more or less important to story or events than your own characters. this will depend on how the story develops based on your actions. the story will be developing in the background and become more apparent through narration and as the story progresses, but it will be molded around what you do similarly to a "Telltale" Game or a "choose your own path" book.

About: (use this section to describe your character and brief backstory)
Attributes: Strength, Reflex, Fortitude, Intelligence, Wits, & social. assign the following numbers to your attributes based on your character's strengths and weaknesses: 4, 3, 2, 1, 1, 0.
These numbers may be used to decide the outcome of disagreements or random events to keep things from becoming biased or unfair. 0 is equivalent to average and 4 is considered impressive. for example, a scientist with a college degree might have int 4 where as a bodybuilder might have str 4.
You may choose to replace your higher numbers with any lower number but you may not replace your lower numbers with any higher number without permission. An example that may be permitted if ran by me is increasing a small number by very little if one or two of your stats are decreased to below 0.
In poke`mon redwood, we want the experience to mimic that of the poke`mon game, therefore, there will be several things that will be handled by RNG through tabletop style dice rolls or percentage rolls. Although we haven't quite worked out exactly how this will work for all mechanics, here are a few simple ones to remember.Poke`mon's gender: The poke`mon's gender ratio will be looked up on serebii and calculated as closely as possible using a roll of a d % or d 100.
Poke`mon encounters: In the event that players are searching for poke`mon on their own, (this does not include story based encounters or random encounter posts by GM at GM discretion) the Player will add the bolded words "Searching for pokemon" at the very end of their post, and end their post there. at that point I will roll a percentage chance based on the chance of encountering a pokemon, then roll an additional percent based on predetermined percent of encounter rates for pokemon that i have decided live in the area, based loosely off of actual encounter rates for similarly leveled routs/caves in the most recent games, in this cases Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
Poke`mon Capture: When a player decides to throw a ball, I will calculate the success rate using capture rate calculators on the web, then make a random roll in secret to determine if it was a success. this will include many factors such as the pokemon's level, weakened state, ball used, and if there is a status effect. at the end of a player's post, who wishes to have me roll to see if a pokemon is caught, the player must type a bolded "Poke`ball Go!" at the end of his or her post so that I know i am needed to calculate capture percent.
Choose to be Losers: Players are always allowed to choose to fail, or lose instead of roll for the purposes of character development, in which case they simply need to talk to me about their post, and write their post with full control based on said discussion. If the event they choose to lose at regards another player, this discussion will be had with them instead. in other words, if two players decide the outcome of thier own battle with eachother, the DM is not required to work out the details, they will collaborate on a single post together, having either party post the post.
Of course as with anything, exceptions may be made depending on the situation. Sometimes I may simply collaborate on a post with a player instead of requier this exact format.
