Plagued by a Rose [concluded]

The commander began his cold laughter again, but this time it was directed at King Lance. "You with no magic will kill us? You listen here, king, I have been defending this kingdom since you were just a lad! You do not threaten me". He chuckled again but an angry look fell over his face when he continued, "your little princess here is in a great deal of trouble. She has trespassed, she has violated our national security, she has taken up witchcraft", his voice lingered on the last word. It was considered tremendously impure for someone of royalty to use magic; they were seen as divine leaders chosen by the Lord. "I am sure she will receive proper punishments for her actions, and I am even more certain that those consequences will not include your input on the matter, King."

Commander Vohon now walked in stride ahead of the prisoners. Cecile only remained silent. Her face had become a sickly pale color; she was afraid. The commander was correct in his list of serious laws the princess had broken. She stood as close to King Lance as she could and hoped the journey would end soon. Her thoughts were slathered in panic for what was to come.

After what seemed an eternity of walking, the group reached the beginning of the tunnel and were promptly hauled off in a carriage to the Rose Palace. Once there Cecile and King Lance were brought deep into the castle. Cecile's heard pounded and she began to sweat the deeper they traveled the stone staircases. She knew where they were going: the dungeons. As they neared the dungeons Cecile began to speak again, this time pleading with the special forces. "Please don't leave me here, please". She was terrified of dungeons. The commander only laughed, and the other knights accompanying them avoided her gaze and said nothing. Admittedly, they felt guilty for treating their princess in such a way, but they would follow orders no matter what.

Cecile and Lance were quickly locked away in a filthy, empty cell. The Emerald Thorns started their leave, and Cecile clutched the bars of their cell and cried out more, "how long will I be here! don't make me stay here!"

The commander stopped and slowly approached where the girl stayed, "Silence, you insolent brat. You will remain right here until the King decides otherwise! Move out!" With that the commander and the Emerald Thorns left Cecile and Lance to darkness. Cecile paced frantically for a moment as the situation sunk in for her.

She slipped to the ground and began sobbing into her knees. "My father will never let us out", she sobbed.

. . .

The special forces responded to the Wythriel attack with great skill. The Emerald Thorns that avoided the blaze each shot spells into the sky.

"Tempestatis!" They each called out, sending another bolt of lightning into the sky. This time the lightning produced a frightening crash of thunder and the sky suddenly erupted into a chaotic storm. Clouds quickly materialized in the sky and thunder roared as more icy rain bellowed from the sky.

The cold rain dampened the power of the Wythriel fire magic and soon the Emerald Thorns were raging on once again. They controlled the rain drops and started sending more frozen spears into the fire figure, weakening its energy as best they could. While fighting the bird with the rain, other knights now controlled lightning bolts, sending them directly into the ground about Kuvira's forces.

. . .

From where Prince Thornton stood he soon began to lose focus on what Lanister was saying. He turned to a nearby window as a sudden storm struck the skies. A sick feeling came over him, and he could not ignore it. His head began to hurt and he placed a hand on his forehead. "I . . . I think something has happened to Cecile. She ran away and I don't know where she is but . . .", their twin telepathy made him distantly aware that she was struggling. "I just have a bad feeling...", he said to Lanister. He would have to find his sister.

(OOC: Thats just all I can do right this second haha... already blown off like an hour of work.)

((Oooo, Enuky is a slackerrrrr))

Lance bristled at the commander's reply, but didn't say anything else. Even in chains, his posture was straight; even as a prisoner, Lance still looked more like a king. He walked along, putting up a powerful front of confidence to show that this would not faze him.

He was quiet all the way down, and didn't protest against being shut away. He didn't say a single word to Cecile until the commander was long gone. Finally, then, he relaxed, and his confidence, while still there, was but a shadow. He wrapped an arm around the panicked princess as best he could. "At least they put us together. I can protect you, that way," Lance murmured, trying to calm her down.

"We'll get out, one way or another," he added. He looked out into the dungeon, and got a better glimpse into the tyranny of King Thornton's rule. The dungeon was full of wailing prisoners, and many of them looked malnourished and underfed. Even in Bathelon, the dungeons were better than this.

"I'm surprised Thornton's people haven't fought back against him, yet. He seems to believe everyone but himself expendable.. As shown with your own position," Lance growled, his hands clenching into fists. "I'm not going to rule like he does, not if I can help it."

Without the expert command of Maeve, the Wyrthriel forces faltered for a moment, but the firedancers began their chanting again, channeling more magic into the summon even though they were exhausted. Fortunately, in the trees, a pair of golden, glowing eyes could be spotted.

Laughing wildly, a figure clad in the colors of Nensenth emerged from the shadows behind the Emerald Thorns, but something was different. Her aura was much wilder than a human's, and was raging against the magic employed by the Emerald Thorn's mages, disrupting it and sending it fizzing in random directions or exploding where it was.

With a wave of Maeve's hand, a long, thin blade appeared, and she darted into the fray, creating a path through towards her own soldiers in an attempt to split up the Thorn's forces. She was much faster, but she was also reckless; unhindered by her injuries, but still risking death. It was as if she didn't feel any of the attacks made on her.

With Kalamitat--her demon--roused, Maeve had decided to take advantage of its raw power, and since it'd already been hungering for a fight it had agreed. So Maeve had let it take over, granted it didn't hurt any of her allies, although the real conversation had been much longer as Maeve covered all of the loopholes she could possibly find. She'd separated from Kuvira for the few moments she needed to break up the Emerald Thorns for a bit, and she planned on returning as soon as she finished.

(OOC: @Andraus Here's a better response for you, LOL.)

Cecile said nothing to Lance, but continued to cry until she could do it no longer. Then she sat silently while hugging her knees. Her breathing was interrupted with occasional soft hiccups. She kept her head down; she didn't want to take in her surroundings. Little did she know their release would be much sooner than she anticipated.

Commander Vohon walked briskly into the room shortly after Lanister finished his statement. He did not bat an eye to anyone nor did he give proper respects to Prince Thornton. Vohon was an arrogant and prideful man, and he was confident enough in the kingdom's need for his leadership to sometimes live by his own rules. The man stepped between Lanister and Thornton and interruped their conversation,

"Prince Thornton. There has been a situation that you must hear of at once", he said. His words always sounded like a command. He gave Lanister a dirty stare, expecting him to leave before the conversation took place. However, then Prince Thornton cut in.

"Commander, alert all Rose Kingdom forces to be on the look out for Princess Cecile. I know it might be hard for you to believe, but my sister is alive and--", his voice was interrupted once again by the gruff man.

"Prince, in lieu of the King's absence and my complete and utter lack of patience here, I will lay this out straight for you", he took in a deep breath. It seemed that he had lost his patience with Thornton for interrupting him despite his own interruptions. "All of the Emerald Thorns know that Cecile is alive. We were given explicit instruction from your father to keep that secret from you." Thornton appeared appalled, how many other things had been kept from him? However, he let the commander continue.

"You must know though that I have already captured Princess Cecile. I believe she is a Bathelon spy; I found and captured both Cecile and the King of Bathelon. They were fraternizing in the Royal Passage!"

Thornton's eyes became livid, "you what? Where is Cecile? You must bring them here at once!" He was shocked and disappointed to learn that Cecile could be an enemy of the Rose Kingdom, but he was still more concerned about her well being.

"But prince--"

"I said at once", snapped the Prince. At this point, the commander chose to leave and carry out his order. He gestured for the guards in the room to follow him, and together they ventured deep into the dungeons of the castle.

When they made it back to Lance and Cecile's cell the commander immediately placed the binding spell on Lance before entering. He had his men shackle Lance, but allowed Cecile to follow freely. "It's your lucky day, maggots, because the Prince requests to see you", he muttered bitterly.

Cecile's eyes lit up at the mentioning of her twin. They would be safe now. She felt bad for Lance's shackled state, but was relieved to not be chained herself. She followed closely as they made their way back up the endless stairwells, and finally they arrived to the Prince's quarters. The commander presented the two to the Prince and Thornton immediately embraced his sister in a tight hug.

"Oh, Cecile. Are you alright?" He swooned over the girl as if she were a child.

Vohon spoke up; he was disgusted by the affectionate Prince. "That girl has committed treason and witchcraft!" he shouted.

Thornton gave him a mean stare, "my sister is pardoned for any wrongdoing of her's. She is a victim of trauma! There is no telling what Bathelon has put her through", he argued. His eyes were still full of hate for the commander's actions. "You are never to lay a hand on this girl again. I want you out of my sight!" The commander obeyed and left. He had armies to assist with now. Thornton kissed his sister's forehead and had her sit upon a comfortable sofa. He then turned to Prince Lance who was still in chains.

"Now what shall we do with you?" he asked. "You certainly have caused quite a bit of trouble for us".

He looked towards Lanister, "I think the Queen may have an interest in the safety of her ally".

"As I said my Lord, We'll need to speak with Kuvira. If her offer to negotiate is true, then I am, unfortunately, not in a position to speak: She would have to talk to my leaders, the Grand-Masters of my order. "Lanister said. Lanister would quickly make his way over to Lance, before whispering. "You trusted me, Now I'll trust you. "He said, before placing his hands on the chains, as they would melt off. "Lord Lance's allegiance was a matter of necessity, as his people suffer from the plague that has afflicted the rest of the world.....A Plague which we have the cure for. "He said, turning towards Thornton.

"I will make haste to have a Moon-gate activate here in the city, though it will take some time. We don't make it our business to become the center of political affairs, my lord. Just stay close to Lady Cecile, Thornton, for what you're about to see, as your sister can attest too, is our life's work, and will be a sight to behold....."Lanister said, before looking towards the Wilting Rose stationed at the Capitol.

"Tell all of our unit's to immediately cease their attacks!"

Not long after, The Battle between the two would suddenly be.....interrupted. Wilting Rose, instead of fighting with the Emerald Thorn's, would be stopping their attacks. "A Ceasefire has been ordered! Peace talks will soon be under way!"Various members yelled to the Thorns, to show they were not enemies.

Yaro would appear, stopping the armies of Yunakai. He would approach Kuvira, quickly, taking his mask off. "
Lanister has agreed to a Meeting, My lady, but on his terms.....I've been ordered to escort you, and Maeve, to the City of Valpurina."He said to her, tired from the running.

Lance rubbed Cecile's back gently as she cried, but immediately moved away as he heard sharp footsteps and smelled, even against the many scents of the other prisoners, Commander Vohon and his guards' approach. He kept a straight face and resumed his confident front as he was bound by another spell, then shackled and unbound, and rose duly to his feet, following the Emerald Thorns and ignoring any words directed at him or Cecile. When they reached the prince's chambers, Lance quietly watched his worrying over Cecile, and couldn't help but wonder where the king was. Lance had not once heard him mentioned, nor had he caught a glance. Perhaps something had happened?

The shadow that could be glimpsed in Prince Thornton's eyes spoke volumes, though the story was still to vague. Guilt was strong, yet the prince didn't seem like the type to willingly kill.

And, while Lance could admit Cecile could've been treated better while in Bathelon's care, he found himself strongly against the way Prince Thornton portrayed Bathelon. Understanding was quick to replace this distaste, though; this must've been the same way Cecile had felt while trapped.

"While Cecile was not treated.. as well as she should have been while in Bathelon's care, I don't believe we'd done much to harm her. If the case is truly otherwise, then I apologize," Lance spoke up, and even though it wasn't exactly his place--he was a prisoner, after all--he hoped it would at least help Prince Thornton to realize Bathelon's ruler wasn't as hostile has they might have expected. Of course, behind his words was the plain fact that, at first, he would gladly have returned Cecile to the Rose Kingdom's care; her tantrums and outbursts and proven quite troublesome. Although, now, after their growing friendship and his dislike for the Rose King's treatment of her, he would be much more hesitant.

Now they were planning to do the same thing that he had done to Cecile; use him to further their own goals. Admittedly, however, Lance found himself minding little, other than the fact that being caught was an embarrassment. Bathelon was made more for gaining strong allies than making enemies, and if Prince Thornton was in charge of negotiations as Lance was beginning to suspect, the chances for peace between Bathelon and the Rose Kingdom was finally in reach.

As Lanister melted his chains and spoke quietly to him, Lance nodded, casting a grateful look to the assassin as he rubbed his sore wrists. It wasn't as if he could do anything against them at this point; Lanister was strong, and right now Lance was unarmed and a step away from going into shock at the recent events. He owed it to Cecile for taking him away from the battle.

As soon as the ceasefire was called, Maeve wrenched back control from Kalamitat. :What the heck?: it complained sourly. :You said I could go until the battle finished!:

And it is finished,
Maeve snapped back mentally, racing to join Kuvira and landing lightly by her leader's side in time to listen to Yaro's report. Nodding her approval, Maeve sent out a quick whistle that went unheard by most, and the 10 squads of Wyrthriel were at her side almost immediately. "What are your orders for them during our absence? Many of them still have enough strength left to heal the injured soldiers. If the Emerald Thorns need aid as well, we could spare a few, I'm sure; it would help to seal in place the potential treaty."

Kuvira watched the ceasefire occur before walking up to Yaro. "Very well, let me inform Bathelon ." she looked around, her eyes soon widening. He was nowhere in sight. She commanded a few men to look for him. She began to fear the worst, maybe he was captured, or even murdered during battle. She had to stop thinking about it before she might lose her mind.

When Maeve approached she already seemed unsettled. "Yes of course but have you seen prince Lance or Dante? I fear they might've been captured." She asked before fiddling with her fingers in nervousness. She was in edge, maybe from the lack of sleep, surprises coming from left and right, or maybe just all of the above.

A soldier arrived before bowing before her. "My lady, I have received terrible news from Yunkai. Seems we are now part of the plague. Barrels from from the sky filled with infected vermin and now over 50 people died in the past 5 hours." Kuvira nodded towards him giving him the permission to leave before cursing under her breath. She looked towards Maeve, not saying a word since she knew it would probably not be anything fitting. She knew she couldn't visibly panic since that would only bring disarray to everyone that saw her. But it wasn't heard to tell that she wasn't calm either.

Kuvira may have seemed strong in the past but in actuality her mind was quite fragile. She could only take on a few problems at a time before she would be driven insane. Maybe a weakness of hers. But how would anyone feel if there land was purposely infected with the plague?

Prince Thornton could only look on with a disgusted expression as Lance defended Bathelon's care of the princess. Nothing would ever excuse them for holding her captive. "You exposed her to evil", he said snidely in response. His eyes narrowed at his apology and he walked nearer to King Lance to give him a long, cold stare. The two did not realize they both carried the same sickly appearance, fueled by the guilt of killing a loved one.

It was then that Lanister approached and released the king. Thornton clearly disapproved of this decision, "he is still our prisoner, and he is not to be freed until we have conducted our negotiations." He wanted to keep Lance as a prisoner for as long as he could. It was Lance who had imprisoned his dear twin sister after all. "He deserves much worse than that", Thornton added.

He turned his attention over to his sister once again and knelt next to the sofa she rested upon. Looking deeply into her eyes he resumed worrying over her, "My Cecile, how could you betray your kingdom as you have? How could you bring him to the Royal Passage? That is forbidden!"

Cecile could only shrug her shoulders and avoid her brother's worrisome stare. He continued gently scolding the girl, "have you still not learned anything about the dangers of leaving this kingdom? You could have been killed, and in a Rose Uniform!" His forehead wrinkled and he let out an exasperated sigh. He took the princess's hand and held it for a moment before kissing it softly, "but I forgive you, my princess. All that matters is what you do from here on out."

"You are not to use witchcraft again. You are safe here and you do not need it. You are my responsibility and I cannot allow you to take these ridiculous risks", Thornton said. The king likely had many more stipulations to list out but he paused as a long, wide smile stretched across the princess's face followed by a series of her laughter.

"Brother, brother, I'm afraid you are very mistaken if you believe that I am your responsibility. The Rose Kingdom has already long relinquished that task", she said. The smile never disappeared from her lips.

Thornton appeared frustrated. "I have had enough. You are not to engage yourself in any political affairs. You do not belong in politics."

Cecile laid across the sofa on her side and snickered at him, "I am not to do as you say", she said. Thornton was very upset with the girl, but it soon became clear that he could not enforce anything on Cecile. He had always held a soft spot for the girl, and she knew and quite often did take advantage of this. She ignored him without a care, and took no interest in his words.

Thornton rose and turned to face the other men in the room. "Surely you both realize that my Cecile is but a silly child. She is not capable of handling this type of responsibility". He retuned to his position next to Cecile, "Cecile, my princess, please just do as I say this time. You will be happy here and I will always keep you safe. I have taken care of everything", he said and swallowed, thinking about what he had just said.

Lance looked back with his cool, unreadable gaze, but eventually he broke for a small chuckle. "We're both worn, hm, Prince Thornton? And yet you act as if I am all the evil in the world." Lance didn't know how deeply his statement might actually cut. When Thornton first began worrying over Cecile, Lance at first found himself annoyed, but instantly that turned into anger as Thornton began treating Cecile as a child.

"Cecile has come far from how she was when she was captured, and you putting her down so makes you closer to your idiot father and further from the caring brother you claim to be. If anything, you should be proud," Lance snapped, his position as prisoner completely forgotten. "If your kingdom bothered to put effort into all of their citizens, and not just the men, you would be much greater!"

However, as soon as that statement left his mouth, Lance was immediately reminded of Dante. A tremor shook him, and his shoulders slumped ever-so-slightly, but Lance was quick to fix his posture and eye Thornton with a frosty stare. "Haven't you even thought that maybe she wants a life of her own, not dictated by her kingdom's view of women? She wants to be strong."

Maeve looked to Yaro. "You were in the palace. Did you, by any chance, see King Lance, or hear a mention of him?" The conversation was immediately interrupted by a frantic soldier. Yunakai was infected! Maeve's eyes widened from behind her mask, and she was glad for its neutral expression hiding her emotions.

"If you will, my lady, I will take Nensenth and we will scout the woods. Perhaps we can discover the fate of Dante and King Lance," Maeve insisted, hoping she could find them soon before things spiraled into even more chaos. The last thing the Rose Kingdom needed was extremely valuable 'bargaining material,' or in this case, a king.

Cecile turned with a curious gaze to Lance as he defended her. She said nothing to either of them because she knew that Thornton would not enforce any of her "rules", but she was somewhat surprised by Lance's words. He had just been the one encouraging her to abandon the war; she was expecting him to agree with her brother.

"You are the evil in this world. My Cecile would never have touched witchcraft if not for you", Thornton hissed, bickering back at Lance. His face became red as Lance criticized the social structure of his kingdom, "that is enough. Silence, prisoner. I have no reason to discuss my kingdom's cultural order nor what is best for my Cecile with you".

Cecile's eyes widened somewhat at those words. She now sat up to better face her brother. "Where is father, anyway?" Cecile finally asked.

Thornton's face became flushed and he glanced around the room. "I do not know where he is", he said.

"She didn't learn how to use magic by anyone's hand.....but one of my own. "Lanister said, before holding up his hands to a dying torch. Soon, it's flames would increase, as an Wilting Rose Agent appeared. "Go, and inform Yaro about the King of Bathelon....Tell him he is a P.O.W. "Lanister said, before the Agent would run into the shadows. "Lord Thornton, you should know this by now, but we do not follow the laws of the Rose Kingdom: Since the Divine age, men and woman both have been soldiers, spys, and mages.....such as both of my apprentices. "He said, taking Cecile's staff to her. "I believe this is yours...."He said politely, handing it to her. It was more of an apology for not being there sooner.

"If anyone is to blame for Cecile learning magic, it would be mine alone, for I am the one who took her there. It was my understanding that that is where she learned what she has now. Also, to an extent, your Social order is a farce. You've had woman be soldiers on the field of battle before, during the Demon raids. It was during the time of King Moyesii, your ancestor. It was Arintoth, the Archmage of the Thorns, who fight for you. She was a female, and she was one of the three who founded my Order.....was she any less, or anymore, loyal to your lands?"He asked Thornton.

"Also, Lord Thornton, understand that every hope you have for Cecile? It becomes her burden. For her to truly live, she must find her own liberation. I know you love her, Thornton, I would expect nothing else from a twin. In your position, I would do the same thing. "Lanister said, trying to convince Thornton. "Everyone is entitled to their own joy....and their own sorrow. For the heart has no metrics or forms of measure, and all of it......irreplaceable."He said. Lanister truly believed Cecile had the choice to live her own life, and study at her own leisure.

Yaro would listen to one of the Agents inform him of Bathelon's position, and sigh. "Damn.....double damn....alright, thank you." Yaro would nod to the agent, before walking over towards Kuvira and Maeve. "Lord Lance is under guard at the Capitol of the Rose Kingdom. From what I could tell, Prince Thornton is planning to use his for bargaining material, while my Master is trying to convince Thornton to free Lance." Yaro said, before looking to see a group of mages for the Wilting Rose huddling up. "Alright.....give the order, Kuvira, and grab what you need. They're preparing a Moon-gate now, and they only stay open for a limited time. We need to leave soon."

(OOC: It was never said where the sword, broomstick, and staff were taken...Also, she was first exposed to magic teachings while in captivity in Bathelon)

Prince Thornton only shook his head. "Cecile has just returned from a year of being kept prisoner and you all think it would be wise to send her off to war?" His face had broken out into sweats, and he seemed highly agitated now. "She needs time to properly recover from such a traumatizing experience. She should not be expected to pursue such dangerous endeavors; she needs rest".

At Lanister's mentioning of the Demon Raids Thornton's frown deepened. "Don't think I need to be schooled on my kingdom's history. Those were very different times. We were pushed to extremes while facing demonic attacks. Besides, those were women much different from Cecile. Cecile is delicate. She is only fit to be cherished", he said. Indeed, Thornton could not bear the thought of not knowing if Cecile was safe. After losing her for a year and spending that time convincing himself of her death, Thornton would do all in his power to prevent Cecile from leaving his jurisdiction again.

Thornton now turned his attention back to his twin sister. He smoothed her hair lovingly before facing Lanister, "I cannot allow her to be put in harm's way after just getting her back". It was apparent that Thornton truly was concerned for his sister's safety above all else. They could not seem to understand what it was like to have a loved one returned from the dead.

Cecile was then presented with her staff and Thornton's eyes narrowed. The princess spoke, "where is my broomstick?" she asked; it was almost more important to her than the staff flying was such fun to her.

Thornton sighed, "she may accompany us to Valpurina, but I refuse to endanger the life of my sister".

Her eyes became fierce. She now how to worry about Negotiate for Lance's life on top of everything else. Something she wasn't really looking forward to. She had to keep a leveled head or else everything else will crumble before her. She faked it the best she could. She was scared for what was to come for herself, for her kingdom. She looked towards Yaro. "Take me there immediately they faster we get Lance the safer he will be. No wonder what The king will plan to do with him."

She knew Lance was in a tight spot. Since of him holding Cecile captive there was a possibility of King thornton, wanting to seek more than a bargain for Lance's return. Honestly though Lance was suppose to be her ally. He seemed more like a burden. Something he would have in common with his lover.

She turned to Maeve
"Make the Wytheriel heal as many soldiers as you can. We can use this time to strengthen our forces if bad goes to worse. You will also accompany. You demon might be useful if anything happens but that's only a last resort. I wouldn't want to put you in any position, you don't want to be in."

She turned to Yaro once more, with a quick glance. "Make Haste. The more time we waste, who knows what will happen " she commented. Waiting for him to take the lead and escort her to the Moon gate so she could negotiate with the king.

Lance kept quiet during Lanister's spiel. What a fine mess I've dug myself into. Shame I can't dig my way out this time, Lance thought. Kuvira sure wouldn't be happy about the whole ordeal. He couldn't help but selfishly hope that maybe she would understand why he'd kept away from battle, though that one decision that had proven to be his worst.

No more selfishness, Lance strictly reminded himself. If one mistake was to be made, the king wouldn't make any more. He kept a slightly defiant gaze on Thornton, but also kept the entire room in his sight. Just like Dante had taught him.

He cast a glance at Cecile, flashing a sheepish smile and mouthing the word, "Sorry," hoping she would understand it was for getting them caught up in such a mess. Although, he was grateful she hadn't ridiculed him. And, on the bright side, he didn't have to deal with King Thornton. That would result in his execution.

Maeve didn't even have to relay the command to Wyrthriel before they were gone, off to do their job. However, Maeve had a sickening feeling about the reason behind Lance's disappearance. Just as Yaro had returned, she had sent a scout out ahead of time to try and uncover any information.

Just as they were about to head off, a few clicks sounded in the distance. Between her mask, Maeve paled. She immediately strode up to Kuvira's side, the perfect spot to speak into her ear.

"The potential reason behind Lance's disappearance and subsequent capture has been discovered. Dante was found dead in a clearing not too far of here. Her sword was missing.. and the area reeked of wolf. Dante also showed signs of possession." Her words were quick, as if she wanted them out quickly. Despite being a professional, death of someone she knew wasn't handled as easily as she could've wished. Dante and Maeve had gotten along quite well during the journey to the Rose Kingdom.

"I believe she may have attacked Lance, who.. killed her, and then ran off afterwards. Likely right into the Rose's hands."

@Enuky K @Trombone Geek @Robyn Banks

"She is not a delicate flower, anymore, Thornton. Cecile is a grown woman, who must learn and experience life on her own terms. I doubt the life of ruling has much appeal to her....Also, Remember Thornton: If she could have gotten here by herself, despite the best efforts of the Emerald Thorns, what's to stop her from leaving again? You can't cage a songbird. "He said to him. He then looked towards the Mage's as they opened up a Moon-gate. "One more thing to know, Thornton.....Where you shall reside, in our city, belongs to Cecile: The Possessions are all hers. "He said, trying to show that Cecile was more capable than what her brother thought. "Ready to go home, Cecile?"He asked her, before stepping into the portal himself.

The Mage's would finish the Moon-gate, before it would flash open. Yaro would look over towards Kuvira and Maeve. "What you're about to see is quite possibly the last free city in the Rose Kingdom. The Rulers of this city, since the Divine age, have been the Three Grand-Masters. Technically, they're a military republic. Every child, and every adult, knows how to fight. Be careful not to antagonize anyone."Yaro said, as he look towards the void gate. "Pay heed, because in this city, they rule."

Kuvira simply nodded. It wasn't surprising that he turned into a werewolf on this particular night, and just in time. She wouldn't know how capable he would be without that. She was grateful, she given him wolfsbane. "He must've had a reason for it killing someone you love always requires that. He's too kind hearted to do it just for entertainment." She said in a hush tone. Maybe she was being optimistic or maybe just using logic. She would find out when she sees him.

After Yaro's speech. She adjusted herself. Her hair, her dress. She couldn't be seen as if she just left battle that would be absurd, she had to look presentable because she sure as hell knew no one else would.

She nodded towards Yaro when she was finished. "Alright, let's get this over with, the sooner we resolve this the better." She had her head held high as she stepped through it. As if she was the icon for elegance. She was trained to be that way after all. It would be a shame to part that to waste.

She took quick glances as people staring at her but she kept looking straight. Only slighting bowing at times as a sign of acknowledge.

Honestly the scene was nerve racking. She knew she was seen as the enemy here. But she had to keep up her act. This was suppose to be neutral ground and she will treat it as such. The city was dazzling though. From the trees, to the people. Something she didn't want to disturb.

She leaning towards Yaro before whispering in a hush tone. "Where will I be meeting them?"

OOC: I just read some really cool stuff on broomsticks! Apparently they have the power to help ward away evil spirits and they're often left in doorways to do this, and historically male witches/warlocks flew pitchforks instead of brooms Besom Broom - Witchcraft Terms and Tools - Witchcraft

Cecile interacted more with the group as the Moon Gate appeared suddenly before them and Lanister disappeared into it. She spoke aloud to herself with a worried expression, "wait, I have to find my broomstick...", she paused before stepping away from the men and calling out into the room, "reditum!" It was a trick that Lance's grandmother taught her. The spell was a trigger word for the broomstick, and if the broom was close enough for the spell to reach it would return itself to its user. Her words were immediately followed by silence, however; just as Cecile's big blue eyes began to lose their hopeful glow a slight humming could be heard in the distance and seconds later her broomstick burst into the room and landed at her feet.

The young witch grinned to herself with a mischievous look as she snatched up her broomstick. Thornton watched on and did nothing but sigh at his twin sister. His eyes appeared very disappointed, but he could not be mad at her either. Women may have lacked many rights of men, but they were not mistreated. They were presumed innocent in most legal matters, and Thornton still inwardly blamed others for Cecile's decision to take up witchcraft. Thornton, Cecile, and Lance remained alone in the room after Lanister disappeared. Thornton drew his sword and gestured for Lance to follow with him, "this way, prisoner", he said. He expected Lance to enter the portal by his side so that he could keep watch over him, but to Thornton's surprise Cecile zipped past him and went straight for Lance's hand. She took it in hers and in a hurry pulled him through the portal with her, leaving Thornton to be the last to step through.

@Andraus

Lance stood quietly as Lanister opened the Moon-Gate and disappeared within. A slight grin tugged at the edges of his lips as Cecile used a spell to retreive her broom, but quickly forced his expression neutral again. Prince Thornton drew his sword--as if Lance was going to try and attack him, unarmed, which was a ridiculous idea--motioning and commanding Lance to walk beside him, not as an equal, but to keep an eye on him. The Bathelon king moved to do so, until Cecile practically teleported over, grabbing Lance's hand and pulling him through the portal. He stumbled for a moment, surprised, but quickly regained his step and followed the princess.

The city beyond the gate was awesome. Lance forced Cecile to pause for a moment so he could take in the sight. The fact that such a place existed and had remained hidden for all this time was almost impossible to believe, were he not standing in that very city.

The king was also carefully aware of just how dangerous Valpurnia was. Lanister had come from here, and the thought that thousands (or more) of miniature-Lanisters could be lurking around was.. Comical, actually. Besides the fact that they could kill him on a whim, of course.

Maeve quietly followed after Kuvira and Yaro, confident in her step even as her mask concealed her nervousness. A grand city, filled to the brim with fighters, and only she and Yaro followed to protect Kuvira. So long as none of them did something stupid, they would be fine, Maeve supposed.

The assassin took this time to observe the grand city, and she found she quite liked its design, especially the underground factor of it all. Maeve had always been a fan of caves, never afraid of the crushing rock above. Once, she was afraid of heights, but she had taught herself otherwise. Underground cities like this were hard to keep looking so beautiful and royal, as human hands carried oils that tainted the rock and practically killed it, giving it a sickly color. Because of this, no matter her curiosity, Maeve had never laid a hand on the walls of a cave.

The city itself was different than when Cecile visited: The crystals were brighter, mimicking daylight. The sound of machines were more apparent within the walls, and the city itself had an orange glow, in contrast to it's purple hue last night. There were shops opening, selling anything and everything, to any and all. Kuvira would see, passing through the path Yaro led, a set of Gold and Dragon scale regalia. Yaro would look towards Kuvira. "Fit for a Queen, no? Meant for both protection and beauty. That dress is decades old, I think. Actually, I think that came from Yunakai at one point......They take good care of the stuff here. "Yaro asked, with a grin on his face. "Come, we'll need to head through the streets to reach the Monastery."

There were also various alchemical shops, weapon smithy's, and food stalls.....as well as mines. One such crate had a freshly mined
Mithril ore. Given they were in a mountain, it was clear that they made use of mining for more space, as well as mining for resources. It would explain the high quality of their equipment, and the fact that the place had a mostly self-sustaining economy. All the while this was happening, Guards (linked picture for ease of use) patrolled the streets. They were obviously more armed than their outside against, and had builds to match. So far, they've met Guards and Assassins, but if that was the case, where were the Mage's and Honorguard? Were they elsewhere?

Lanister would be leading them through a different section of the city. They would arrive at a floating platform. It was obvious that this place was once a Rose territory, but that day had long since passed. Where once there were ornate roses decorating such a platform, they had been replaced by the Wilting Roses Symbol. A female guard would look towards Lanister. "Take us to the Monastery."He told her. The Woman would nod once, before holding out her hands.

The Platform would begin moving, floating over the city. This was obviously a useful method of travel, as it avoided dealing with the people below. Lanister, however, didn't expect people to be so unused to it, as he grew up here. He would then look towards Lance and Thornton. ".....What?"He asked. He didn't see the issue with using such a device for travel.

Enuky, I wrote the bit for Lanister because, I assume anyway, they'd be surprised to be on a platform that floats. Other than Cecile, no-one had been on a floating object)

Thornton followed through the moon gate seconds after Lance and Cecile. He did not appear amused by Cecile's actions, however; his look of disdain was was quickly replaced by a look of wonder as he took in the brilliance of Valpurina. His mind became distracted from Lance and Cecile as they ventured through the city. He could not help but gape at the many sights they passed. It was a small glimpse into the possibilities that arise with magic. The prosperity of Valpurina, much like the Yunakai, was enough to make Thrornton consider that perhaps it was time to change the ways of the Roselands. It was hard to wrap his head around the fact that these were his decisions to make, but here they were preparing to negotiate.

The group stepped onto a platform, and Thornton was caught off guard when it lifted from the ground. He took a step closer to the center of the platform and clutched his sister's arm, but Cecile was not unnerved by being in the air at all. She pulled away from him and excitedly hurried to the edge of the platform where she could gaze in awe at the city. Thornton cringed internally and stepped to the side next to Lance. "You honestly think that she should be involved in this?" He asked. It was the first time he spoke to Lance as if he weren't contemplating his murder.

He gestured to Cecile who was still at the edge of the platform. She was playfully attempting to catch bats that were fluttering about the air, and stepping carelessly near the edge. He shook his head and looked back to Lance, awaiting his response. @Trombone Geek

She marveled at the sceneria and the dress. Was truly breath taking, a dress for a dragon queen. She stood before it with a glow in her eyes. The glow soon faded when he mentioned Yunkai. She was homesick to a great extent. Her ladies, her knights, her people... She felt guilt for putting this plague upon them, for the greed she had to get more land. To bring something to a country that didn't want her.

She continued walking, beside him. Looking at Maeve for comfort wanting her to remain close. She was no longer in her land no had control. Her army was no where near her nor did she know of the exit out. She had to play smart, be aggressive but smart. She couldn't be intimidated by the king or else, she was already at a disadvantage. She couldn't give them anymore reason.

Though they weren't in war at the moment. Negotiations were still a battle field of its own and she couldn't back down. She turned to see that the guards were present patrolling the streets but no Mages or children, anyone in that matter. "Where are the citizens? The make it seem like they are being invaded... In their own turf I mean."

Lance quickly recovered from his awe, and moved forwards, following Lanister to the floating platform. As it rose, Lance could practically smell the magic, and it gave him a slight headache, distracting him from the fact that they were on a floating hunk of stone. However, he didn't mind, and he moved to the edge beside Cecile. He observed the city, but had to resist the impulse to smile at Cecile's excited expression that he could glimpse from the corners of his eye.

Thornton soon joined them, on the edge, glancing at his sister with a worrisome look but not commanding her to stop. If she were to fall, Lance's quickened reflexes would catch her, if the magic didn't first.

"She is just as much a part of this as you are, Thornton," Lance responded. "And not through any privilege, but because she wants to be, and because she had been invited to be." His voice was still on guard and slightly chilly, but the king was much more relaxed and casual than he had been earlier in the room with the prince, or as he had issued death threats to the Emerald Thorns.

"What makes you think of Bathelon so cruelly? Is it our own view of the Rose? If it helps any, my vision has cleared; I only judge the monarch and people for the fact that women are much more useful than you seem to think.. and not nearly as innocent," Lance added. "They are just as dangerous, if not more when jealousy or vengeance has a play."

After his answer, Lance lowered his voice. "Just between the two of us.. Where is your father? Surely he would not have authorized such a thing, or let you take control for a day.. I have seen into your soul, Thornton. Your eyes speak volumes against what your face might hide." Whether Thornton could say the same for Lance was to be seen, but he didn't mention his own problems.

"The city is unusually empty," Maeve remarked, agreeing with Kuvira's statement. "Perhaps this is an attempt to make us more relaxed. Or, more likely given the short time, they simply don't wish to reveal themselves to strangers." She kept a keen and cautious eye on the guards as they did their rounds, and the fact that they were doing the same relaxed her, as it gave a greater chance that they weren't planning anything.

"We'll be home soon, my lady, and when we are, everything will remedy itself. I'm sure the cure will be included, should negotiations be successful," Maeve reassured Kuvira with a quiet voice as they walked.

Yaro would turn, and see her glowing at the sight of the outfit. He would then walk in, and continue speaking. "That's an easy answer, Kuvia: They're either busy training, doing their assignments on the surface, or at school. "He said, pointing towards the Dress, as it was taken off the stand. "Knowledge is a weapon, just like any other. Schooling is Mandatory, and enforced in the city. It's free education, and our children growing up able to 'really' appreciate the outside world. Where do you think I learned to speak Elvish, Dwarvish, and Draconic?"Yaro asked, before handing the shop owner a bag. Inside was a handful of precious stones, all flawless in nature.

It was easy to forget that, due to his exploits, Yaro was very wealthy. Placing the outfit in an
Hand-forged Chest, Yaro would pick it up, and hand it to Kuvira. "Here. My gift to you." Yaro said. While it was a small comfort, it was a comfort none the less. It was obvious that Yaro was trying to make amends to Kuvira, and he thought this was a perfect way to start. Though Yaro felt betrayed by her, Yaro still felt there was good in her, however buried it was.

As they continued on their path, they arrived to a similar elevator. The person on this elevator would lift them up, towards their destination.

Both groups would finally arrive at The Monastery. The place wasn't just built into the Mountain side: Most of it was carved into the mountain, obviously by the work of a Master Craftsmen. This was a place of reverence to them, and obviously held dear symbolic value. Both groups would find the place was also well defended, not just for the protection of the sacred sight, but for the grand-masters. The Temple Guards were a whole different breed of Soldier: They wore gold and green colors, almost similar to the Emerald Thorns. They were most likely the equivalent of a paladin in this place. Each Guard watched the group carefully, obviously at unease.

The Statues inside showed just as to why they held this place sacred: It was the rest grounds of their founders.

In a Central room, there were three Large Statues, each with a unique inscription. Atop the middle statue was a
Woman, an obvious mage. She carried herself like Royalty, and even in death, the power in her presence was not to be undermined. This was the Archmage Arintoth. Her inscription read-

The Pursuit of Knowledge is a never-ending cycle.

The day you stop seeking knowledge is

The day that you stop growing as a person.

To the far left of the room was another statue. This one showed Male, and his stature made him seem battle tested. Even ages hence it's construction, One thing was obvious: He carried himself like he was always ready for war. This was the Ancient of War Technoshi. His inscription read-

In War, Victory

In Peace, Vigilance

In Death, Sacrifice

The final statue, and one that Lanister seemed to be paying special attention too (as he was praying in front of it) was the visage of another male. He appeared to be cloaked in shadow, and even the statue of him was dark. This was the Spymaster Maferath. His inscription was on his statue, and was more insight into the Wilting Rose than most would care for. It read-

Wilting Rose

A beauty that once was

A dark echo of the past

Monsters are not born

They are made

For when Oppression becomes law

Resistance becomes duty

But those that stare into the dark abyss

Rarely return from it.

Such is our way.

Lanister spoke to one of the guards there, before walking back towards everyone. "The Grand-Masters will see us now....I hope everyone is ready for this?"He asked, giving everyone a final chance to back away, in case they wished not to be involved.

King Thornton let out his usual soft sigh. "You're a fool", he said to Lance. It was in that moment that Cecile actually caught a bat. She clapped her hands around it, and immediately fell to the floor of the platform and yelped in pain when the bat chomped her hand shortly thereafter. She dropped the and watched it fly away while rubbing her sore hand where it bit her. Thornton raised his eyebrows to Lance with a look of disapproval. How could they see anything other than a child in his sister? He wondered.

As Lance began to defend Bathelon Thornton's face morphed into a look of angry disgust. "Why would I ever forgive the men who captured my sister? You took a year of her life away." He fluffed his hair slightly; he was somewhat sweaty. "You might think she was okay, but I know she was not." Thornton then paused in thought. He remembered the many times he had felt her distress. There were times when he had wondered if perhaps Cecile's soul was in hell. "Everything she felt I felt too".

It was then that Lance switched the conversation around to old King Thornton. Thornton would have none of it. He stood straighter and said coldly, "silence, prisoner". The conversation was over. Thornton then stepped away, avoiding Lance and walking to the other end of the platform.

It was then that the platform landed and everyone stepped off and followed Lanister to the monastary. There were many statues honoring the original grandmasters. Cecile observed everything curiously, sometimes lingering behind the group to examine statues up close.

Thornton also followed in silence and gazed at everything as they passed it. Finally, Lanister stopped and asked the group his question. His face became pale and he felt butterflies in his stomach. This would be Thornton's first time negotiating political affairs, but he supposed he had no choice but to be ready for it. He stood tall and waited for Lanister to bring them to the grandmasters.

"Yunkai..."she murmured to herself, low enough for only her to hear. Seemed as if he was down grading Yunkai for what it was. Her eyes widened when he handed her the dragon chest with the dazzling dress inside. She was speechless. "Thank you. You really didn't have to do that." A soft smile appeared on her face. She cleared her throat remembering the reason why there were in valpurnia in the first place.

"We need to get to the monastery, Who knows what is happening to prince Lance at this moment." She continued to make her way to the negotiation meeting.without saying amother word throughout the trip.

Lance ignored Thornton's insult, walking over to grasp Cecile's uninjured hand and pull her to her feet. He made sure her bite wound wasn't too deep, and when he was satisfied, he realized that Thornton had decided the conversation was over.

"Running won't help, Thornton," Lance murmured quietly, not quite realizing how much of a hypocrite he was.

The platform finally touched the ground again, and Lance was glad for that. Almost immediately, his headache vanished, and so he stepped of the stone and followed Lanister into the monastery. Inside held an amazing sight, but Lance couldn't bring himself to gaze upon it as he had when he'd first entered Valpurnia; while he'd felt fine and (mostly) relaxed during the quick negotiations with Kuvira, now he felt an unusual spark of unease, mirroring the paladin-like guards roaming the place.

Lanister had apparently hurried on to pray in front of one of the three statues in the central room. Compared to the other two--a warrior and a mage--this one's stone was darker and it seemed to be hidden in the shadows more so than the others.

When Lanister returned to the groups, Lance simply nodded; he was as ready as he was ever going to be.

Maeve had watched Yaro gift Kuvira with the dress she'd wanted, a small smile forming behind her mask. However, the moment didn't seem to last long; they immediately moved onwards, following Yaro until they reached a floating platform. To him, it seemed a usual mode of transportation, but Maeve wasn't the biggest fan of being lifted into the air without it being her own doing. She stayed far away from the edge, not willing to risk falling off, whether it would mean her death or not.

Finally, their group also reached the monastery, although they'd been beaten by Thornton, Cecile, Lanister, and Lance. The Bathelon king didn't acknowledge their arrival, but Maeve could understand, as he was not-so-visibly nervous. Maeve kept quiet, waiting for Kuvira or Yaro to take the lead; she wasn't a diplomat, after all.
