Phobia - IC

Seeing a break in the lunch lines, Aiya wandered from her corner to the middle of the room, mindful of bumping into other students on her way. She passed by two girls whom she overheard talking about languages. Falling in line behind one of the seniors, she thought about whether she'd attend the mentioned gathering or not. She wasn't one for groups, and it was bound to be cold outside during the evening, not to mention that the gathering would be at the forest. Suppressing a shiver at the thought, Aiya brought her arms around her and squeezed herself tight, pulling her beanie and scarf tighter around her head. Definitely a bad idea, she decided.

Taking a lunch tray from the stack, she waited patiently as the lunch lady served her what appeared to be meatballs and some kind of bread. Figures. Turning towards the center of the room, she realized that most of the seats have been taken already. Blowing a wisp of hair out of her face, Aiya just stood there holding her lunch tray. Now what?

Eli pulled back, putting his hands in his pockets. He shook his head at him in amusement. "If I didn't know any better, I'd say that you were flirting with me, Beau, and only an hour after we met too." He made his voice as innocent as he could manage, barely stifling a laugh. "If that was you flirting, then you must really suck at it." He hopped off the trashcan, stretching his arms above his head. "Man, they don't tell you about the back pain in improvised furniture class." He said playfully, and then turned around, lightly kicking his trashcan. "Where would you get Thai food anyway? As far as I can tell, we're in the middle of nowhere."

Beau smirked back, "Flirting isn't my forte. I prefer prostitution, it was easier since I had the money." He got up as well, "You didn't have to sit there. You could've sat on the floor but you gotta live a little. And I dunno. I want Thai food. I'd find a place close by that sold it. Simple, my smoking hot friend."

Eli noticed a few heads turn in their direction at the mention of 'prostitution' and snickered. "Prostitution, huh? I bet a lot of guys throw themselves at you after you tell them that." He said sarcastically, lightly kicking at the trashcan again. "The floor?" He made a face. "I don't know if that's better or worse than the trashcan, but since you won't to be a good freshman who goes to 'get togethers'-" He made air-quotes. "-then I guess I'll help you find this imaginary 'Thai food' you're talking about."

He turned around, facing the growing lunch line. "In the meantime, we can go get lunch-" He stopped, wondering to himself if Beau would consider that too normal. "-Er, well, I'm going to get lunch, and you can come if you want." He faltered, shooting him a backwards glance. Then he shrugged and started forward. Beau would either follow him, or he wouldn't. He glanced over, spotting girl standing near the middle of the room with a tray. He thought it was a little weird that she was dressed in so many layers, but then again who was he to judge when his own hood was pulled up. She didn't seem to know what to do, and he had a sudden idea, which would either be great or go terribly. Eli turned and made a beeline for her, stopping right next to her, but still with a healthy amount of distance between them.

"Hey, so you're going to the 'get together'-" The air-quotes weren't necessary but he did them anyway. "-Right? It'll be so much fun and not boring at all, right? Could you help me convince my roommate that it would be so much better than staying in all night?"

Aiya gave a start when a boy walked up to her with no warning that she almost dropped her lunch tray. Not entirely sure what to answer (considering the fact that just moments ago she had decided not to attend), she simply muttered an unintelligent "Um..." and proceeded to internally chide herself.

Great. What I am supposed to tell him?

Well, there was no reason to stop others from attending even if she herself wasn't. Trying to remember what the senior said during his monologue, she took a chance and suggested, "Well... he said it's the only time we'll be allowed there. Shouldn't be that bad..."

Beau rolled his eyes and walked with Eli to get food. Even though he didn't want to, a guy's gotta eat. He grabbed an apple and bit into it, "I ain't going to the thing and that's that." He chewed angrily. The boy never liked going to large parties. There were too many people and everyone would remember it. It would be too normal.

(Won't have any internet until Friday.)

As she made for the lunch lines Rikst let out a low whistle. The list of things Tessa learned and taught herself was long enough to give her a spontaneous inferiority complex. She’d thought that she was good with languages, but her own exploits mostly amounted to five useless Mongolian words here and half a Hawaiian sentence there. She shrugged. “Oh, well, mostly German and French in school and I dabbled in a bunch of other languages. I’ve always wanted to learn Italian, or Greek,” she added wistfully. “I’m actually trying my hand at Mandarin currently, just to try something completely different.” She thought for a moment. “It’s not… going very well,” she admitted sheepishly.

She grabbed a tray and starting picking food at random, suddenly feeling the effects of jetlag slowly starting to set in again. “Do you—“ she stopped to stifle a yawn, looking annoyed. Starting over, she glanced around at the other students. “Do you want to go sit with some other people? It’s probably good to get to know our fellow students.” Ahead in the line she saw the two boys who had been sitting at the back of the room before. “Maybe there are a few trash cans left for us,” she grinned, nodding towards them.

Eli sighed overly dramatically, turning around to fully face Beau. "Well, if 'shouldn't be that bad' doesn't convince you, then I don't know what will." He looked back just long enough to shoot the girl a backwards grin. "I almost can't believe you're disappointing her like this," He shook his head, but he was smiling. He rocked back on his heels, regarding Beau. "No, but seriously, unless you're going to find a way to have it delivered, I'll pass on walking to the nearest Thai food place." He remembered the girl was still there, and half-turned. "Hey, what's your name, anyway? I'd like to stop thinking of you as 'the girl'."

Nodding to the pace at which Riskt was speaking, Tessa felt her lips tug up into a minuscule smile at the remark about wishing to have learned languages. Not in a way that would make it seem as she was gloating rather in a understanding form, she herself had felt that before when she was younger-- now that she knew them she almost wished she could learn them again to feel that momentary satisfaction that came with the territory.

Glancing in the direction to which the girl was nodding Tes bit her lips as she thought of all the ways things could go wrong-- of all the things she could screw up on, all the impressions she could fail and all the shadows lurking in the background. Then she nodded following Riskt a small smile pressing itself to her lips as she fought down her internal comtary. She would also be doing  something wrong if she were to refuse her roomie-- and that was the current threat that loomed the closest.

Stupid girl. You know you can never say no. Stupid. stupid. stupidstupidstupidstupidstupidstupidstupid

"He's not really disappointing me" was what Aiya wanted to say before she caught the boy's grin. Ahh... It was probably meant to make the other boy guilty, she thought. Why he'd insist on attending the gathering though was lost on her. It would be crowded with majority of the student body attending (presumably the sophomores and seniors), and it'd most certainly be cold outside during that time of day. Just the thought of it made her blanch.

Balancing her lunch tray with one hand, she pulled her beanie lower that it almost covered her eyes just as the boy turned back to her. "Aiya", she answered before quietly adding, "Pleased to meet you."

Beau rolled his eyes, "Never state names first, Phobias, mental and physical health and how good you are at hanging around with a person who hates everyone," he points at himself, "For example, I have Koinophobia which is a lie. I'm fine. My parents guess that I have personality problems. Lol no. I'm weak as fuck and I'm pretty sure I'm underweight. But who cares cuz I don't."

Aiya stayed silent for a moment after the red-headed boy spoke. She was equal parts disturbed and amused at how confident he was of himself. Unsure of how to answer, she threw a glance at the other boy before bringing her gaze down to her almost forgotten lunch. "They call it Cheimatophobia," she murmured against the scarf around her neck. "Can't stand the cold." Thinking back to the questions, Aiya offhandedly realized that this was the longest conversation she'd had outside her family. She didn't even interact with her psychologist as well as they'd like. "I'm healthy enough," she continued with a bit of uncertainty, "and haven't been around people for a while, so I don't know."

Eli shrugged as Aiya looked at him, holding up his hands helplessly. "Don't look at me, he treated me the same way." He explained, as if Beau wasn't standing right next to him. "I think his rudeness means he likes you." He added, shooting Aiya a small, not-so-well-hidden smile. He might have been the tiniest bit unhappy that Beau had completely ignored him but, pft, that was okay, whywouldn'titbeokay?

Aiya was not convinced that Beau's attitude towards her was that of fondness. She wasn't an expert on people though so pointing that out seemed unreasonable. She simply shrugged and turned her lips into something akin to a smile. Remembering that she was supposed to be eating lunch (that has gone cold by now), Aiya glanced around the room for an empty seat. She found a few tables by the upturned trash bins that the two boys were occupying previously, still littered with leftover plates and food wrappers. She turned back to the two and said, "There are tables there." She nodded her head towards said direction. "If you're having lunch... uh, what should I call you?"
