Fandom Persona RP

Would anyone be interested in a Persona RP with a custom story (unrelated to the events of any of the actual games). That means new school and such. We will be exploring the themes of escapism and, to a lesser degree, madness. There will be a Silent Protagonist (emphasis on silent) character controlled primarily by me but important story choices made by the Protagonist are voted on by the players and will change the outcome of the main story depending on what you choose. Also, the players will pick the Protagonist's name. If you are interested, would you be interested in a traditional style of posting or would you like me to incorporate actual RPG mechanics for a more game-like feel?

I adore Persona so I'd be down for this.


I'm more fond of traditional posting, but implementing a system of growth based on the events of the roleplay could be neat. Then there's the question of implementing danger/death from it. Just really depends on what kind of direction you'd want to go with said RPG elements. Down for anything really, so I'll be keeping an eye on this~

Awesome, we have some takers already. By RPG mechanics I mean we can have a battle system based on fixed damages (no damage formulas involved except simple addition and subtraction). We could have a system for acquiring new Personae to use in battle. Possibly one for Cooperation/Social Link that would tie into the previous two systems. And even a dungeon crawling system for free form play. If it seems to heavy handed or leans too much towards Dice territory, then it's best we stick with traditional. Traditional is also better with a smaller group of players.

FIRST STORY DETAILS

Nichibotsu-ku—a largely independent ward of the nearby city of Hitome—harbors the prestigious Koden Academy: a private high school in which students live on campus. As a new school year begins, strange rumors concerning Nichibotsu are circulating throughout the ward. Rumors about an unusual second library located on the academy's campus, about people wandering into Nichibotsu's forest and are driven insane by some unknown force, and about sightings of strange holes popping up at various locales. You are a student of Koden Academy whether through good fortune, hard work, or inherent privilege. Through a series of events at the beginning of the school year, you'll acquire the power of Persona that you must use to stop the advent of a great calamity. But do not fret, you are not alone in this fight. Your fellow classmates and friends, armed with the same power, will stand alongside you. When the line between reality and madness blurs, will you be able to escape intact?

THE THEME IS ESCAPISM

The overarching theme that we'll explore within this Persona RP is escapism. To roughly define escapism: it is the desire to distract oneself from the harsh and/or mundane realities of life. This is usually done through books, films, video games, etc. Our characters, who are attending a prestigious private academy, have certain expectations placed upon them and the strict grind of schooling leaves them feeling an overbearing sense of boredom and unpleasantness. Such a mundane existence would eventually drive anyone mad if they could not "escape" into other worlds even if only temporarily. I want this to be the drive for our characters and hopefully you'll be able to implement this theme into your character in interesting ways.

I am interested i this plot line and themes~


So will there be a theme with the Personas? Like will they be based off what they wished to be? Or will it be a reflection of their escapism? 


Also on a slightly different topic when do you expect the ooc will be up? I am very excited to see this Rp start~

Each character's exclusive Persona (the starting Persona basically) should be based on a fictional character from either fairy tales, legends, stories, poems, romanticized historical figures, etc. No mythological or recognizable characters from religions such as gods. While it won't be a requirement, it would be really cool if you can find a fictional character who has "escaped" their life somehow to base your Persona on. Like how a seemingly normal figure is thrust into an important role. You can also base your Persona off fictional characters who have gone mad in their story to fit in with the "madness" theme.

That's the way I had taken it, though Alice is already technically a Persona. Actually had one of my favorite scenes in the SMT series.

Pftaha, that's great. Hadn't considered that one. Would be really fitting for a Persona based around status effects/general blights and disaster.


My mind went to a really warped version of Momotaro initially, but I think I'm going to focus on Materlinck's The Blue Bird myself.

Mm, depends. Were it me I'd probably pair her up with a user of The Tower arcana and focus on how they seem to bring misfortune to not only themselves but seemingly those around them as well, giving them a stigma of having some perceived curse. Of course, any arcana that focuses on sexuality or womanly charm can be utilized. Just depends on what you're in the mood for with the character. Seems like a pretty flexible choice in that regard.


The Persona itself could always wield the sesshoseki as their primary weapon to poison and use Tomano-no-Mae's various concubine aliases as inspiration for moves utilizing its charm to confuse and manipulate shadows.
