[PEACH] Clan Salubri for Blood and Smoke

That's really cool. The flavour text is great, and while Valeren seems a bit much at first blush, I think it fits in B&S increased power scale. The Clan Banes seem spot-on, as in the old days.

I think I like the alternate version of Vengeance of Samiel more than the first; it's no less powerful and the imagery is pretty great (a handful of lesser warriors strike, fail, and are cast aside in quick succession), but it limits it to those situations (in my mind, a Fury one-shots a pack of ghouls with a sword, prepares to do the same to the Ventrue master - and then the Ventrue draws a farcically oversized gun and blows the Salubri's head off). Which could be good or bad, but I think it makes it a more strategic choice rather than ALWAYS USE THIS WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU

Aye, the alternate one is the one that I'm going with for the moment. The guy I co-wrote this with likes the main one better, so I'm keeping them both in.

Edit: Though, I have heard that disciplines should have a factor of 'ALWAYS USE THIS' because it forces vampires to be predatory monsters because they burn a lot of blood. I mean, look at Vigor. Why would you NOT take another 5 damage every attack? Why would you not go first? But it's contested, and I have no idea which is, so I'm opting for what seems more balanced.

With the release of the Valeren open development, they made a change to the Discipline line up that I found inspired. It shows symmetry with the healer path and gets rid of the weird 'strike' style power that reminds me of an MMO (Vengeance of Samiel) and I like the change enough, I want to mirror it in B&S conversion. This is my write up for the new 5 dot; what do you think?

••••• Ending the Watch

The Salubri can gain power from death, either from the poor souls that wish to die, or from the last breath of their foes. When the Salubri activates this power, the Fury touches the target, and their third eye opens, drawing in the soul of the target.

Action: Instant

Cost: 1 Willpower

Dice Pool: Wits + Empathy + Valeren

Dramatic Failure: The Soul overwhelms the Salubri, and the Beast fights back. Gain the Competitive, Beastial or Wanton Condition.

Failure: Nothing happens

Success: The Salubri may use this power in one of two ways, either they touch the corpse of a foe they have killed recently within the scene. The second way is they can instantly kill a target that truly wishes to die, even if it is a victim of the Salubri’s torture (from, say, Burning Touch), when he touches the target’s heart, it instantly ends their life. After a success on the absorption roll the Salubri may do one of two things;

  • Recall facts of the target's memory, requiring a separate Intelligence + Empathy + Valeren roll for each factoid of significance. With the soul's vitality residing inside the Salubri, he knows much of what the dead man did—interesting secrets, rare treasures, or vital documents. The Salubri may choose to let pertinent information come to him (Storyteller's choice) but this incurs a -2 to the Intelligence + Empathy + Valeren roll.
  • Absorb the living energies of the mortal's soul; each success heals the Warrior of a level of damage, whether bashing, lethal or aggravated.

Once the successes on the roll have been used by either or both options, the remnants of the soul fade from the Salubri's own, venturing to their final destination. The Warrior may only retain one soul at a time. The corpse of the target may be fed upon, regardless of clan weakness. Their blood tastes rich and hot, even long nights after death. However, they may not be Embraced.

Exceptional Success: The Salubri gets the benefit of both options at the same time.
