  • Congrulations.
You've survived The Peacekeepers Training Camp. Depending on where your skills were forced. You've had ten weeks of tests of your knowledge of all the vast knowledge that could possibly be available. Or you've been trudging through the harsh forest with only a bottle of water and a pocket knife. Either way, you're now an official member of the proudest group of the US Government Peacekeepers.

You should already know but this letter will go over your responsibilities again which are:
    • Investigating suspicious activities of non-humans that are settled nearby
    • Seeing that all communications between humans and non-humans are peaceful.
    • Filling out through reports on the activities you've been following.

Setting

This is your new home! Used during the civil war, it’s a very run down house, you can tell that the previous Peacekeepers had left in an in a rush the house had been slightly singed when the townspeople had tried to burn it down. The glass has been shattered but people couldn’t seem to break down the doors and foundation like they wanted. Over the years the house become a source of anger for the town where meth heads would be found hanging or teenagers would be having sex at. They allowed the trees to overgrow and the grass to overrun to so that the people didn’t have to look at the place anymore.

Walking in through the door on the right side is the living area. On the left side is a closet and wall lining, behind that wall is the kitchen and dining hall and a small half bathroom. In front of the hallway of the front of the door there is a staircase that leads to the other rooms. Upstairs you’ll first come to a full bathroom with a shower and a tub. Then there is long hallway with two rooms. Barely large enough to squeeze three twin beds in each room. It'll be rather crowded.

Just outside their room is a loft that has been set up as a sitting area where they can eat play chess and do other leisure activity. Then just outside there is a secret. In the backyard is cluttered with roots and trees and behind some bushes as they are trying to dig everything they find a metal door which leads down into a bucker.

Bootcamp hadn’t been so bad. Blanca could definitely think of worse things she’s been through, mostly it was a lot of exercises, a lot of dealing with getting yelled out and a lot of tests. The department didn’t have a standardized uniform yet, just badges that they could flash at people that told them of their position. Blanca had her’s clipped to her hip and it dig slightly at her skin as she rode her motorcycle to the house and the new team she’d be assigned to.

It would be the first time any of them met. Most agents got grouped in teams and were chosen randomly by a computer, the major who’d trained her had complained about this system, saying that agents who were trained together would have a strong bond and by a better team. Of course, big organizations never listened to good ideas. And Blanca didn’t really care about getting along with people. She would do her job.

The town itself was fairly tiny, a population less than 2000 which must be why they were looking over this town and the two next door as well that respectfully had populations of 1500 and 1000. The people, she’d been told at least, were untrusting of any government authority, especially of peacekeepers. This region had been neglected during the civil war, there was a period of almost two years where there had been no clean running water in the area. So the people were use to fending for themselves and didn’t want that change.

Though she doubted they were only here to make peace with the locals. She’d also read in the news paper that a local vampire coven had moved just across the mountain, and there had been reports by the vampires of their people disappearing. Either way, Blanca rode up the steep mountain where the Peacekeeper’s base was, not surprised by the run down look. The gray wood looked sturdy but dirty, whatever windows weren’t mashed in were stained by dust. Just a glance through one of the mashed windows she could see rotten furniture and broken piles of wood that probably once were bookshelves. She glanced around, she guessed the rest of the agents would be here either today or tomorrow.

She sat down on the porch and pulled out a cigarette from her jacket lighting it and taking a long drag.

In the woods a cherry tree shook its branches in a very un-tree like manner. The sun filtered down on its green leaves and pale bark with the weak warmth of morning. Slowly the branches retracted, and a girls form started to emerge, stepping away from where moments ago there had been a tree. Stretching the girl looked around sleepily, then dug in the ground that had been under the tree. From the hole she pulled a bag, and from the bag a green sundress, and a badge that she pinned to the fabric. Dressed and ready she looked to the sky for her bearings before setting off at a long legged stride through the forest and up a mountain.

Her pace was unhurried as she made her way through the woods, unconsciously staying far from town boarders and the road. Whilst the peace keepers had been wonderful, taking her in despite everything and no one really being weirded out about the differences between all the races on site she remembered all too well the smell of smoke, the guns and axes and mon mentality of people. Not to mention she had been posted to an area that wanted nothing more than to be left alone, and without the supernatural. She knew she could do her job without them even knowing she was really there, except for a fully grown tree appearing overnight that is, but yet she was tasked with being part of a team.

Team. That word was fraught with both excitement and trepidation. The people from her base that she had trained with had been nice enough, albeit focussed on the tasks at hand. For so many years she had been alone for survival, some of those feeling dredged up during her boot camp exams, unwanted as part of anyone’s community. Yet she longed for that bond she lost when her grove was burnt. She could only hope that whenever made up this new unit would be kind, and maybe if she was lucky, friendly.

It took much of the day for her to reach her destination, but finally her feet found the road, and not much further along, the most ramshackle housing she had seen in a while. She wasn’t sure what she had been expecting for their first assignment, but building repairs definitely hadn’t been part of it. Most of it didn’t even seem structurally sound. Then she noticed the girl on the porch, cigarette in hand. As she Steiner forwards properly she raised a hand in greeting. “I suppose you are one of the team members assigned here too?” She opened with once she was in comfortable conversation range.
