Mae

Home of the missing boy.

One day after the call.

Sally jumped out of her chair at the sound of three knocks on the door. Mae followed suit and stood, gesturing for Sally to sit while smoothing out the wrinkles in her skirt. "Please Miss Sally, just sit down and relax. I'll get the door." She smiled sweetly at the woman and quickly left the living room to answer the door.

Mae tugged at her white sweater absently as she walked down the hallway to the front door. Family pictures lined the walls, and Mae kept her eyes on the ground instead of looking at them. She had spent her first hour or so walking around the home, trying to get a read on the situation. She'd spent what felt like a lifetime staring at those photos. Mae finally got to the front door and unlocked it, pulling it open to see Blythe on the other side.

"Hi Blythe! Come on in." Mae chirped. "Bill and Sally are in the living roo- Are you okay? What happened to your cheek?" Mae asked with wide eyes. "Did you get in a fight or something?" She asked, a mixture of suspicion and worry creeping into her voice.

The landscape outside his window blurred by, changing from an endless desert to rough rocky terrain then gradually replaced by green. Fields of golden crops sparkled under the moonlight, swaying softly under the breeze like ocean waves, rising and fluttering with every surge of wind. The very wind that flowed around Nathan, throwing his hair back over his head. He inhaled a lungfull , savoring the freshness and the smell of green lingering in the air. The car zipped by on the grightly lit road, its roar exceptionally loud on the empty highway, intertwining with the constant sound of the blowing wind.

There was nothing else except him for miles, nothing except the night road and a vast field of plants, he had it all for himself. Nathan always liked the country side better, especially when it's at night. Far from civilazation, the hum of the after life sounded fainter, less intense, and he could allow his guard to lower a bit. It's easy to lose himself in the peaceful stillness, away from the rush and worry of the mortal world, away from the leftover memories of long passed age. Here, he had no duty, no calling, no expectation to fulfil. Here he could escape his own life, even for the briefest of time, an unbearable weight leaving off his chest. Only when it's gone that he could fully appriciate the freedom from the mortal life, like the freedom of a newborn child, like the freedom of the dead. For the tiniest of seconds, only when he let his guard down too much, thoughts of dying crossed his mind, thoughts of abadoning it all and seek true peace. Then it would be immediately snuffed out by the wave of responsibility came crashing back, pushing down his shoulders with unbearable weight, like Atlas under the sky. Even if he give in to the deep desire, Nathan knew it wouldn't be that easy. His life was never easy, why should his death be any better? Moments of self-doubt usually follow, with him questioning every decisions and every paths he had taken in life. Henry would disapprove of Nathan if he figured out those thoughts. Henry had always found a way to deal with problems. No more. His friend was dead and gone, and the memories cut at his heart, tearing the old wounds open although he had come to term with it long ago. His fault. His mistake. His failure.

Like all good things, the peaceful time came to an end. Other cars started to appear on the road, drove by more and more often. At the horizon beyond the crop field, the sun had already risen, bathing the eastern sky the color of riping fruit, illuminating the world in its warm presence and throwing long shadows onto the road. Occasional houses and bus stop came next, growing thicker with every mile, and the voices of the dead renewed its strength with a vengence, drilling into his mind once more. Scowling in distaste, Nathan raised his mental defences and transformed it back into the background hum it always were. Much too soon after, Nathan stepped out of his car onto the deserted parking lot of his building, back into his unpleasant life. He would love to say that it was good to be back home. But it wasn't.

Blythe <3

While Blythe waited for she closed her eyes and imaged a wall in her mind, blocking out the noises regular people wouldn't hear. The door opened to a familiar girl with short brown hair, chocolate eyes and pale skin. Mae. Stepping into the house the first thing Bly noticed were the pictures that were hung in the hallway and she knew for sure that the parents would cry even more when they walked to the door and had to see family pictures with their son in it. She couldn't get her eyes off the cute little boy that was smiling with both parents beside him, it was enviable. And now the innocent little boy was missing, it made Blythe sick to her stomach thinking about losing someone close to her. If she had lost someone so dear to her she would be able to handle it but if it had been her own child. If that happened, she wouldn't have been able to live on.

"Ah, this... well I guess you could say it was a fight," Bly wasn't really sure what to call it since none of the men had managed to actually hurt her besides a little scratch. A smirk formed on her face when she wondered if they felt embarrassed for losing to a girl, it wasn't everyday you meet a girl who knew how to defend herself. Of course the girls in her job knew how to hold up their own somehow. Since she was small she'd been learning how to fight and protect herself, obviously it comes in handy. Especially for where she lives.

Making her way toward where she could a bit of chit-chat, making her way into the living room she gave the two parents a small small before taking a seat on the couch and looking at the both of them.

"My name is Blythe Foster and I work with Mae, I'll do everything I can to help you find your boy," She spoke in a calm voice, even though both parents weren't crying she could definitely see the depression that was coming over them. Both parents gave her a firm nod and the woman mouthed out a 'thank you' and it seemed like talking right then would break her. Bly didn't know what it felt like to someone important and so she didn't understand what they felt but looking inside of their eyes told her everything. The light in their eyes seemed as if it was dying out yet the both of them were still so determined to find their son. It was quiet now but Blythe was going to just have to be patient until Hageshi and Kenia came in order for their job start. She was ready to look for the poor boy, she didn't know the parents but looking at their devastating appearance made her feel even more responsible to find that boy. Man, hopefully this wasn't going to be a complicated job.

Ride to Hell

Hageshi flicked on her lighter, then off, then on again, gazing at the flame as she did. An unlit cigarette was pinched in between her fingers. Sometimes, she thought to herself, it was worth listening to those two idiots. Silas did a really good job of being completely stubborn at trying to stop her from burning up her entire stock of cigarettes by the afternoon she bought them. It bordered on annoying, but he was right about the cigarettes taking a toll on her. Boss said the same thing as well. But what could she do? It was a habit that she found hard to drop after the incident with her eye and Jin's...departure. She found it harder yet when she left her Boss's side. She had to smoke to fill herself with filth that would drown out the same disgusting feeling she had in her gut. The feeling of a craven. Cowardly and absolutely disgusting. The one thing she swore to never be, both in her heart and her body. Her missing eye itched as she was shoved memory upon memory in her mind. She reached up slightly to scratch at it, but stopped when she realised that this feeling won't go away as easy as a regular itch.

Kenia's return was a good distraction. For once, she appreciated his presence. Not that she showed it anyway. When he spoke: "So, I see who has the connections in this group.", she merely gave a nod and shot a severe glance his way to notify him that she heard him. Without any kind words, or harsh ones for that matter, she took his baggage with one hand and deposited it into the back seat, and proceeded towards the driver seat. She pulled her seatbelt over her chest, and snapped it shut. The car roared to life as she turned the key in the ignition. Hageshi took a glance at Kenia's direction as he entered his seat, and then checked the rear window of the car. The road was clear.

"Hope you've got your seatbelts on." Kenia shoved the gear to reverse and jammed her foot on the accelerator. The car shot backwards at a frightening speed, right across the parking lot, out of the office premises. She shifted her foot to the brake, spun the wheel so hard it might have broken from the force and changed the gear to Drive. Without breaking her combination, she switched her foot back to the accelerator. The car screeched, the tires protesting against friction's rule, before the car sped off down the road, all the laws of the road be damned. She had lots of practice weaving in and out of traffic at devillish speed back in her home country. And pursued either by the triads emptying their guns at her, or by cops, who were also emptying their guns at her, or by both, emptying their guns at her. She allowed herself a momentary smirk, an expression that shouldn't be reserved for such dangerous speeds as the better parts of her memories slid back to her mind, covering the less cheery ones. Exhiliration, for once, filled her steel heart. Without regard of Kenia's thoughts about her more than dizzyingly high speed, she continued to step on the accelerator, twisting the wheel to barely scrape past the other cars that were traveling far too slow for her.

------------------

The Mazda screeched to a halt outside the address that she had recorded in her phone, the acrid smell of burning rubber still lingering in the air as it came to a stop. Hageshi slammed the door shut behind her, and instantly, without fail, slipped a rothman between her lips, and her lighter coming to life. She lit the cig, snapped the lighter shut and took a very long drag, feeling the smog swirl around her throat and lungs, before slowly exhaling, a stream of white smoke spiralling into the air. She tapped the cigarette, sending ashes falling to the floor, where her foot grinded them to dust right after. She strode up to the door and calmly rapped her knuckles on the door.

"The cavalry's here," she called out, not a hint of humour dotting her voice.

Main Mission - Aretha

Dying in a Wood.

I need to stop, I can barely breath…
Aretha leaned against an oak tree, gripping her shirt above her heart. A steady beat had become a rapid and out of control thump. For a moment she was sure she would have passed out right there. It wasn’t wise for me to keep on running like that. She choked out a heavy gasp, kneeling now. Her heart, her lungs, they scorched in raging flames causing her to whimper. The muddy ground blurred and she fought not to fall to her side.

“N-no… Ju-just get up.” She swallowed dryly, pushing herself to stand. The world spun in the dark colors of the night, blending into one. Aretha placed a hand against her head, now realizing the warning for her health was not a mere empty threat. A pulling strain that could make her sink into a pitch blackness, she had forgotten what it was like.

Gazing around weakly, she could see that she had lost sight of the little monster and Silas. Breathing out a sigh, she began to walk around blindly, tripping over rubble and hidden stones. Even though the moon shone so brightly as a guild, the twinkling stars above seemed to glow dimly in disappointment. She had lost sight of the prize and now she couldn’t find her way out of here. Out on a path that led in circles and twists. Lost.

She brushed against the trees, clinging onto low hanging blanches to keep her steady. For what seemed like hours that had past, Aretha wanted to give up. Perhaps to sit on the ground and simply close her eyes, she would wake up to see this as another dream. But dreams don’t leave scratches. She grumbled inwardly, feeling a wetness on her cheek and a slight burn from a opened wound. I must have ran into something sharp and never realized it. So clumsy...

Aretha squealed, jumping around when a low crack echoed behind her. She looked frantically around, trying to spot a human figure. All she saw was a fleeting black shadow that disappeared as soon as it appeared. Heroics were the last thing on her mind at that moment, she could care less if that creature popped up right in front of her. Bump it all!

“Oof!”

A very familiar voice sounded from a distance. It wasn’t far from where she stood, most likely behind the clumping trees. So carefully she approached and stopped. Stick, stick, where is that stick… It was decided. If anything rushed at her, she was gonna slam a nice piece of wood right in it’s face! Aretha nodded to herself, as if the plan was actually fool proof.

Once more she walked to where she heard the sound and pushed herself through the branches and low and behold! There was Abby struggling on the ground as the ghastly little demon prances around on her stomach, dancing in victory. As Aretha took a closer look, somehow Abby seemed more dead than alive. Should I help her...or take a video? A video would be great. It really would..

Kenia

The Sorrowful Couple's House

After a Hellish Ride

(I hope it was worth the wait. I am so sorry it took me so long, I was a little busy.)

Kenia forced himself out of the passanger seat, legs like jello after that hellish ride with Ms. Hageshi. Who didn't really seem effected by the over 300 miles per an hour pace she had set, quick caused the poor boy's stomach to toss and turn, do back flips, maybe even tie itself in knots. It was very surprising he didn't throw up his breakfast all over the already traumatized couple's yard, stained yellow with the contents of his breakfast," Oh, Damn I shouldn't have ate those sketchy looking eggs this morning," his face turns a deep shade of green, and his cheeks become flushed, as he trips yet again this morning and fall down on the lush green green, hand clinched to his stomach," I'm going to die." He whines loudly, letting out a shaky breathe, sitting there on the lawn before he composed himself.

After 20 minutes of just laying there on the grass, chiggers probably crawling on him. Which will later make his skin itch like mad, but they would fade after a few hours. Kenia could deal with that then, but he had something to do, and he didn't have time to mess around. His precious Mae was inside, waiting for him to comfort her, and to talk to the those poor, poor parents who might be causing her sorrow, because of their lost. He gets up with a flourish, the wind suddenly picking up, cause his short brow hair, and the skirt of his "borrowed" dress to move along with it. The sun shining above him at such an angle that it gave him a almost angelic look. And for that moment he looked almost heroic ," Don't worry Mae I will save you!"

With thoughts of heroism planted in his mind Kenia walks up to the hours, entering without so much as knocking and walking into a cozy living room where the Mae, Blythe, and the couple sat. All with a dark gloom hanging over their heads, like thick black rain clouds, just pregnant with rain and ready to burst," Hello, I'm Kenia Rian. I work with Mae and Blythe." He says in a semi-cheery voice, attempting to bat away the gloom that seemed almost like a sickness.

Lauren Annette Hunnycut

Hoboken, New Jersey

-: :| Main Missile |::-

Lauren ran away from the car, she ran away from Silas, away from the buildings and headed straight for the woods where Abby had last been heard as the hooved creature made its way to escape. Leo was ahead of her, juggling a camera and himself through the woods, but the little girl was much more nimble and swift. Within a few paces she was easily ahead of Leo, using the Light to watch her footing as she jumped over branches, trunks and other small foliage.

The entire time her hand on the stun gun in her pocket and a large smile on her face. She was going to be the one to complete this mission. She was going to get the win and then they would see and they would accept her as one of the team. Quickly as she moved to the woods, just beyond the light, she could hear Abby.

Abby seemed to of been struggling by the noises, but Lauren was locked on the Beast. Finally she could see it, with her left hand, she pulled out the weapon. Abby would not get this win.

Her smile instantly turned to horror; in that instant as she was about to jump on the creature, the instant that she clicked down the button, the very instant she was about to jump on the beast and shock all hell out of it, her shoe lace snagged on a root. Her foot pulled back hard and she to the ground as if being pushed by a large hand. It all happened so fast she wasn't exactly sure what she had done.

Putting her arms out to catch herself, her hair flowing through the air and her face stricken with confusion. Her free hand grabbed onto Abby’s calf, and the pronged stun gun with 20,000 volts of current crackling the air dug straight into the woman's butt.

Lauren had never felt something that made her entire body tense like that all at once and with that type of pain. Her jaw clenched shut, biting hard into her tongue; the metallic taste of blood almost instant. Her finger slide off the button, but its charge had pulsed through her, Abby and the creature for a good 3 or 4 seconds. Even as she fell to the ground next to Abby, she felt like her body wouldn’t listen. Not a single muscle would listen.

Tears formed in her eyes and streamed fast around her plush cheeks and nose; blood painted her soft lips like lipstick and dribbled from the corner of her mouth down her chin. She had bit almost all the way through her tongue. It’s pain intense and yet finally her body loosened a little bit but still not enough for her to full move.

Silas Eagleton

Hoboken, New Jersey

> Main Mission <

Undercut by the sharp edges of clawing branches, Silas forced his way at a reckless pace, his goal the tumble of red hair waving on ahead. Stumbling over the outreaching root, the boy nearly landed his face on a nefariously-placed rock, the speed of his reflexive hands the only salvation from uncommon pain. He kept on, after the mischevious Lauren, cursing the small child with every negative thought that sprung from his mind. She was a monster! A trouble-making little she-devil that liked to drag in everyone with her. Silas would've been perfectly happy in the comfort of the car. Running in the forest after that brat was in no way part of his plans. It was freezing out here! His breath could be seen in puffy clouds, and his unclothed arms -- Why didn't I grab my jacket..? -- shuddered at every icy breeze's wicked caress. The girl was getting farther ahead, was nearly swallowed by the pitch of night. Silas was seriously considering turning back at this point.

Let Lauren be eaten. His life would be better without her.

Now, now, Silas.

"I know already." He muttered, forcing his tired legs to run again.

Leo flashed on the corner of Silas' vision, his camera bright as the sun, piercing pain to the poor boy's tired eyes. He glanced over at it, head twisting while he propelled himself forward by the bare trunk of pine. The light shook for a brief moment and then plummetted down, snuffed out.

Silas gaped, even skidded to a stop, wavering towards where Leo ought to be.

But some crackling snap spun him back towards his original goal.

"Lauren?!" He cried out. Had she... the tazer?

Leo could take care of himself. Silas broke through the brush into the strangest sight.

Abby and the devil were caught in strange embrace as light flashed like lightning from Lauren's hand, the zapping wires contorting the bodies before her.

Silas was at a loss. The situation was too strange for him to even consider a reaction.

Numbly, he threw the net over Abby and the Jersey Devil.

"I'd say good work, but..." Silas smacked Lauren upside the head. "This is our job. Tazers are offlimits for you, kid. Quit the mischief and stay in the van next time."

He pushed the kid back, kneeling beside Abby to help her untangle while keeping the devil trapped. He dropped onto the creature, wrapping his arms around it and the netting. It was either unconscious or biding its time -- either way, Silas didn't think his own scrawny arms could hold it for long if the beast tried to resist. He caught sight of Aretha biding her time at the clearing's edge and yelled for her to grab it, too.

"Can you wiggle out of this, Abby? Try not to move too fast. It might be sleeping."

xxxxAbbyxxMain Missilexxxxx

Abby had almost completely caught the creature when she heard someone behind her. She was about to ask for help when she felt something pinch her butt. The pain was like a shock that coursed through her whole body. She whimpered once before falling stunned next to the Devil. A hand rested on her knee, and another body was near her side, seeming to suffer the same consequence. Glancing down at the devil, Abby could only assume it had taken the charge as well.

She tried to move her body as Silas approached, to tell him about how hard the silly devil kicked, but she couldn’t move, couldn’t talk. She gazed forward and saw the ghost that had helped her previously. He stood far enough away that the other’s couldn’t see him, and she mental pleaded that he would say something for her. He nodded once before coming close. He disappeared, and then reappeared in a tree near the group.

”She can’t move, boy,”the ghost said. His voice sounded like a whisper of sound. Slowly Abby could feel her ability to control her muscles being restored. Her fingers twitched and she watched the Devil coming to the same fate. With the net over her, she tried to will her muscles to move but she couldn’t. No matter how hard she thought about it, she could not make her muscles move.

With every second, she slowly was able to gain movement, and stiffly she pushed herself out of the net. She moved as fast as she was able, which wasn’t much with half of her limb numb. ”Talk about a shocking hello,”she giggled. When the beast twitched, she moved to help hold it down. ”We got it!” she grinned, wide. She barely noticed the sting from where its hoof had hit her jaw and stomach.

Lauren Annette Hunnycut

Hoboken, New Jersey

-: :| Main Missile |::-

After a few minutes, Lauren could roughly move her body and digits again. She had rolled off to the side of the creature and Abby. The stun gun falling from her hand. She was on her butt, but was not feeling good at all. Trying to get up, her body ached and wobbled and finally, the girl fell to her knees. With her hands on her knees and leaning over so she wouldn’t get anything on them, Lauren parted her lips and a mouthful of blood poured from it.

Dribbling down her chin, Lauren’s eyes still filled with tears as the pain in her tongue throbbed and made her stomach churn. From the smell, and taste of Iron, her stomach finally gave in and she heaved. Her chest tightened, and what little amount of food she had in her tummy came up.

Again, the girl whimpered in pain, not really crying, just whimpering. Her chest heaved a second time and nothing came. That time it was far more painful and Lauren took a few deep breaths as best she could. Her throat burned, her tongue hurt and there really wasn’t anything she could do. Spitting a few times, she cleared her mouth of blood and the remnants of her stomach.

Finally she mumbled loudly, “I’m a part of the team too!” She turned her head and looked at Abby and Silas. Her eyes were all red and her checks flushed and moist. “I captured it too! It would of gotten away if not for me!.”

Suddenly she was forced back down as her stomach churned again, her hand gripping her tummy, holding it back this time at least. Lauren spoke again, “I don’t want to stay in the van.”

Main Mission - Aretha

Wood. Surrounded by people. Possibly insane people.

Two things conflicted her mind. One: Helping Silas and Two: Taking care of Lauren. She bounced her reasonings around, trying to find the best answer. Lauren was a child, hurt and upset. Silas was grown man, holding down a demon that could at any moment pull some kind of stomping act, bite his face off (does it even have teeth?), or suffocate him with it's leathery wings. She took her time with the thought and automatically decided.

Aretha walked over to Lauren, bending down on her knees carefully avoiding the stomach fluids on the ground. Gently she lifted the girl's head, pushing her to sit up. Motherly Instinct: Activated. Aretha took out a handkerchief, one she always kept in case she was the one who broke down. Thankfully, it wasn't her today. Placing the soft cotton against the girl's cheek she wiped away at the tear stains and smears of dirt. "Silas shouldn't be bully a child...", she muttered more or less to herself. It was kinda sad in a way. You see a kid hurt and you merely hit her across the head. Shameful, really.

"You did a good job, Laruen. Maybe just next time, running with a tazer won't be the best of actions though. You've hurt yourself and Abby, who assuredly lost more brain cells than before when that -- things was dancing on her. But other than that little mess up, you did well."

She was speaking in a low tone, only then being able to talk in a full sentence. After she finished cleaning up the girl's face, she handed her the cloth and stuck out her own tongue, motioning for her to clean up the mess in there. Last thing she wanted to see was half of the girl's tongue on the ground, just because she convulsed and bit the rest of the muscle away. She shuddered. She would defiantly faint then.

-The Traveler's Light-

Mae

Home of the missing boy.

One day after the call.

Mae attempted to hide a yawn as she watched Blythe make chitchat with the young couple. She was beyond bored-not to mention tired-and she wished that they could just hurry up and finish this case. The sooner they got the little boy home, the better. Mae was preparing to jump back into the conversation when Kenia burst into the house as if it were his own-it wasn't all that unusual for him though. It was easy for him to make himself at home somewhere. Mae smiled excitedly when she saw her best friend, jumping off the couch and practically flying into his arms.

"Hello Dress-Stealer!" Mae chirped, slight annoyance creeping into her voice. "How did you even get into my apartment?!" She asked, lowering her voice to a whisper. She needed to find out if she had to change the locks yet again before she completely forgot. Mae knew she had to do whatever it took to protect her clothes. She then remembered the three people sitting just feet away and frowned. "Wait, don't answer that just yet. But you will tell me later." She did her best to look threatening, but failed terribly. Mae sighed and spun around, grabbing Kenia's wrist and dragging him further into the living room.

She glanced back at Kenia as she led him to the couch. The dress kinda looks better on him than it did not me. Not fair. Pouting, she dropped down onto the couch next to her bag.

"Oh, um, I almost forgot! Blythe, Kenia-ahhh." She glanced nervously at Sally, but Bill simply nodded and grabbed his wife's wrist. "I think we'll go grab some dinner from the kitchen real quick." She smiled reassuringly at the couple as they headed to the kitchen, waiting for the door to fall shut before continuing. "Eran hasn't made any progress in the search. We'll stay here tonight and head out to the mountains in the morning to help him look. I...something's not right with this case. I don't know why, but it feels...wrong." Her chocolate brown eyes were wide with worry and unease. She pulled on her skirt, twisting the fabric in her hands anxiously. "Do you two have any ideas as to what might have happened?" Her eyes flitted back and forth among her coworkers.
