Realistic or Modern [OSV] "Our Small Victory"

Take the people currently in the store to safety.

There's a lot more people with better firepower.

Also we can be of use here.

Respond to a request on the battle alert app from another hero, providing backup.

Every time we relive this nightmare, we always wish we could do better. This time, as an amateur hero, our gut tells us that we can probably take this Angel fellow on with some backup, so they can be brought down before they end up burning the whole city to the ground. They can't be that dangerous, right?

Nothing matters, but the only reason I'm picking it is because I want more Fun on the chart.

If we can’t save the day, let’s save people.

"Our Small Victory"

Location: Downtown, Time: ???

Eryn heard air raid sirens starting to go off, along with the national Emergency Alert System being broadcasted to nearby TVs that were on display, and various radio equipped devices. He lifted one person in the store, but realised that his present day telekinesis was several times stronger than it was back then, and that strength had carried over into the dream. This was the first time it was noticeable. 10 months worth of improvement really made a difference. He lifted everybody in the store, 4 people. He was now used to flinging around much higher numbers. He floated them out of the store. When he got onto the streets, he saw a Sentinel approaching in the distance, out of a smoke cloud. He had never seen one up close, so its exact features were currently blurry.

"Sentinels 05 through 13, do not allow anything to approach Angel-00. The rest of you, feel free to cleanse the area." The voice he heard earlier from Predator-01 was familiar though, and now he knew why. He had merely forgotten where he had heard it before, and this dream had jogged the memory.

Eryn ran in the opposite direction with the people still floating at his side, towards one of the medical helicopters that had arrived in the area. A tank rolled past him on the way there, in the direction of the Sentinel, and he heard the roaring engines of approaching fighter jets. After turning over the people to the helicopter and making sure it took off safely, he was startled by the tank exploding behind him, probably from being hit by one of Angel's attacks.

He turned around to see the Sentinel trapped in a bubble shield, still a fair distance away, which it broke out of after a few strikes. Sydney was standing in its way, about to engage it with her sword. As Eryn had pulled off the small rescue much quicker than he had in reality, he had arrived at this point much sooner and thus the situation was unfamiliar to him. He knew Sydney had fought a Sentinel, but he hadn't actually seen it, so what happened next may have been completely inaccurate as far as he knew. It was uncharted territory, and he had no idea what to expect.

Usually you'd have the benefit of having seen the dream several times, but things are different now that you've done things early.

Run past them to assist the heroes that are engaging The Angel.
Assist Sydney from a distance.

Attack the Sentinel directly alongside Sydney.
Respond to a request from a different hero while Sydney holds off the Sentinel.

Assist Sydney from a distance. Our powers are more useful this way. A mysterious attacker saving Sid is in the ghost style two.

>>>Assist Sydney from a distance.

If they are engaging it alone, we should help. All the more because we don't know the capabilities of that thing

Assist Sydney from a distance.

I definitely think we should help her out, and last time there was a choice similar to this I picked the "help directly" option, so why not try the other one?

Assist Sydney from a distance.
Watch as Eryn and Sydney absolutely decimate this Sentinel without any effort. Watch out, Angel - we're coming for you next.

Eryn turned invisible as was customary if he was going to use the ghostly approach. As Sydney was about to cross blades with the Sentinel, Eryn sent a sizeable chunk of debris at it from the side, staggering it before they clashed. Sydney struck at it's joints, creating a few sparks, but she didn't seem to actually debilitate the Sentinel. When it tried to counter attack, he froze it's arms like he did to Predator-01, allowing Sydney to continue her assault. Eryn had no idea how durable or skillful a Sentinel would be in reality, but he was happy for some success in the dream.

The combined assaults from Sydney's carefully placed strikes and Eryn's general bombardment of debris seemed to be enough to force the Sentinel to it's knees. It felt odd to be playing support for Sydney, since support was her whole role as Aegis. But hey, it was working. Eryn looked up to see fighter jet's firing missiles at The Angel, which responded with a single continuous beam attack moving in a sweeping motion through the air, destroying both the missiles and the fighters. Then he saw its eye move downwards to aim at Sydney, who was about to ram her sword in between the Sentinel's neck plates.

Without thinking, he flung her into the store directly next to her, through the window. The Angel fired a beam, creating an explosion where Sydney had been a split second prior. The explosion sent Eryn onto his back and forced his invisibility to drop momentarily. If he had been a bit closer, he'd have been screwed over by shrapnel. The feeling was all too familiar for him. Ringing in his ears, blurred vision, increasing temperatures, sweating on the inside of his mask, covered in shattered pieces of asphalt.

He sat up and saw more Sentinels walking out of the smoke cloud. Someone else landed in between them and Eryn though, wearing a long black hooded coat and a full-face gas mask with a digital screen displaying cartoonish turqoise eyes. This was the veteran hero known as Viper, real name Adrien Wallace. A telekinetic, and the person who had been teaching Eryn how to use his powers up to this point. Their notebook page was the most painful one to rip out. Now was the part where the dream moved back on track to historical events, after the brief detour.

Eryn saw Viper snap his fingers, resulting in a loud gun-like noise, and gaping holes appeared in the chests of the distant approaching Sentinels, causing them to collapse immediately. Eryn recognised this as Viper's "concentrated shockwave" technique. There was still so much left he could have learnt. Viper approached and helped Eryn to his feet, who couldn't get any words out of his mouth.

"Sorry I'm late. There were logistical difficulties."
The sound of a second wave of fighters drew their attention back to the Angel. The large barrage of missiles had hit this time, briefly lighting up the Angel's forcefield before it flickered and died. The fighters themselves, however, met the same fate as the previous wave. Viper started to run towards it.

Despite the differences you've caused, the overall outcome doesn't seem to have been affected so far.

Go with him.
Convince him not to go.

Check on Sydney.

Request an all out attack from all heroes against the Angel on the battle alert app, noting that their shields are down. We want to save him and we want to be decisive, what better way then to get him some help?

Request an all out attack from all heroes against the Angel on the battle alert app, noting that their shields are down.
Everyone... lend us your strength!
Honestly though I don't see how even the Angel will be able to withstand an attack launched by all heroes. This surely can't go wrong, especially not for Viper.

Go with him.

It is our best chance. Many heroes will die if we request an attack. Trying to convince him will probably not work, and checking on Sydney will not save him.

Eryn took out his somehow undamaged phone and broadcasted a worded request as opposed to the usual emergency requests that didn't have words attached.
ANGEL'S SHIELDS ARE DOWN. ATTACK WHILE YOU STILL CAN.
It occured to him that The Angel wasn't actually widely known as "The Angel" just yet since this was its first appearance. He altered the message
THE MASSIVE FLYING ENTITY'S SHIELDS ARE DOWN. ATTACK WHILE YOU STILL CAN.
There we go. Eryn now started running after Viper, approaching The Angel. As it came into sight, he could see more clearly the heroes that were already attacking it. Even his father, who was supposed to be retired as a superhero, had become active for this one night. He was a flying, flaring pyromancer who was tanking Angel's beam attacks by absorbing them, protecting the other heroes as they made their attacks. His flamethrower-type attacks didn't do much against Angel's metal frame, though.

Looking behind him for a moment, Eryn saw other heroes disengaging from their battles to focus on Angel, everybody trying to converge on it. Many of them were high-tier heroes with huge power outputs. If they could close the distance quick enough, they should have been fine. That wasn't what really happened, but there was a chance to change it now. Eryn saw Angel extending it's wings out wide, and flapping them once forward, sending a massive and destructive gust of wind towards the approachers.

Not this time.

Eryn jumped in front of Viper and formed a telekinetic wall to dampen the wind gust, mitigating its effects. Not only was he stronger now, but the pain factor in the dream was almost non-existent. Sure, his forearms were broken now, but he hardly noticed in this environment. The gust of wind was still strong enough to blow back the flying heroes, but the grounded heroes were fine. Eryn had done the action instead of Viper in the dream, instead of the other way around like what really happened, so Viper was now able to focus on his attacks earlier.

Not only was Viper sending his shockwaves at Angel, but he was forming blades made of solidified air and sending them at them, piercing Angel in various locations. "Compression blades", he called them. He had such a mastery of telekinesis even on the molecular level that Eryn had never even attempted to replicate before. Not only that, but Viper was simultaneously crushing one of Angel's large metallic wings, forcing them to gradually descend. The flying heroes had caught up and begun their attacks as well. That's it, they were winning now that everybody who was able was making their attacks both together AND way earlier. And yet, Angel was still able to curl it's wings together. There was an ominous charing noise coming from them, and Eryn immediately wanted to wake up. This was how he discovered his debilitating weakness to EMPs. The heroes had every advantage now, and seemed to have Angel on the ropes, but he couldn't see any alternative outcome now.

Wake up.

The gaps between Angel's feathers had begun glowing red, creating electrical arcs between them.

Please, wake up...

He didn't want to see any further.

Get me out of here.

The Angel spread its wings out, sending the EMP across a half mile radius. The electrical lights in the buildings that were still functional had gone out in an instant. Flying heroes that relied on tech were sent plummeting to the ground. Those with mechanical armour were fried within their suits. Most energy-manipulating heroes suffered at least some form of negative effect. Viper's mask sparked and died, parts of it lighting on fire, prompting him to rip it off his face. And Eryn was sent to the ground, twitching and and writhing and screaming in pain, flickering rapidly in and out of invisibility, small objects around him being affected by random unintentional acts of rogue telekinesis. He had only experienced it once, and yet he never forgot the feeling.

Viper rushed to his side and started gathering debris to start making a makeshift shelter around Eryn, focusing his strength on securely ramming pieces into the ground and creating a tight weave of metal.

Stop it!

"Kid, calm down, you'll be safe!"

I don't want to be! Attack the Angel!

Eryn saw the Angel's eye lighting up behind Viper, preparing to fire at the groups of off-guard heroes. He tried desperately to call out, telling Viper to finish it off instead of protecting him, but he had no control over any of his bodily functions.

The Angel fired, and that was that.

Location: Eryn's living room, Time: 09:57am

He woke up in a cold sweat, the feeling of the EMP's effects still lingering. He looked up to see Sydney sitting next to his sleeping bag, apparantly having been waiting.

"Hey, you. You're finally awake. You were trying to cross the border, right? Walked right into that imperial ambush, same as us--" She stopped her memeing once she took a closer look at his face.
"H-hey, are you ok?!"

"Angel's back..." he said weakly.

"Huh?"

He sat up. "The Angel is back in play." Sydney awkwardly darted her eyes around.

"Yeah...I was meaning to talk to you about that when I brought up the symbol last night...."

The dream may have ended just now, but the real nightmare is far from over.

Discuss it now.
Talk about it over breakfast.

Mask your concerns and make light of the situation.
Wait until after you've properly eaten and cleared your head.

Wait until after you've properly eaten and cleared your head. Let’s not panic when this seems bigger then us. We need to be calm to stand a chance.

Talk about it over breakfast.
You don't just eat breakfast and not talk at all, unlike you're an antisocial f[REDACTED] like me, but we might as well talk about it anyway.

We could carve battle plans into our pancakes!

But seriously we might as well just talk about it while eating, it gives us some time to recover and a good conversation while eating.
