It wasn't much of an eventful evening, even compared to other recent days. Usually Eryn would at least have been able to beat up street thugs in alleyways, although that was really the only kind of superhero activity available to him these days. But today, he wasn't even able to do that. After school had ended, he had been waiting and watching for hours, in the hopes that literally anything interesting would happen. This was, needless to say, quite bothersome. For now, Eryn was dangling his feet over the edge of the building he was sitting on with his respirator mask off, eating a doughnut. He contemplated going home early tonight.
He checked the battle alert app on his phone for no real reason, considering there were no notifications from it. The app was in common use by pretty much everbody: civilians, heroes, police etc. It was used similarly to a news or disaster alert app, showing where battles were going on throughout the city and who the participants were so that civilians could stay away and so that superheroes could join in. Police would even use it to request help from nearby superheroes.
No incidents for the past 322 days
Well, Eryn couldn't say he was surprised. Nobody dared to fight out in the open anymore, not even supervillains, except for low-level criminals. It seemed like the only way to not dissapear was to not display any sign of powers during combat, and even then you probably weren't safe if your hero or villain persona was already well-known. The only real answer to unpowered criminals wreaking havoc was the police force, which had been forced to rebuild it's power once most major superheroes had dissapeared. They weren't doing a bad job either.
Such as the bank robbery that had begun nearby, in Eryn's field of view. The police had already arrived and seemed to be making short work of the criminals. Sure, he wanted to be able to help, but this situation wasn't worth the risk and the police were doing just fine. He'd probably just get in the way, and---
Eryn was almost blown off the rooftop by the blast of an explosion coming from the site of the robbery. After steadying himself, and taking a closer look at the stand-off, he saw that the criminals had brought out various non-conventional energy weapons, and quickly turned the tables against the present police squad. Users of weapons of this caliber were regarded as dangerously as supervillains were...which Eryn had no experience in fighting against.
Eryn had barely processed the situation when he finally got up and put his mask back on. He didn't want to dissapear, but neither did any of the other heroes, so he couldn't reasonably expect anyone else to show up.
His phone, for the first time in almost a year, had finally delivered a battle alert notification.

The police won't last long against these villains. What's the plan?
Attack directly, and be flashy about it. Villains need to know that heroes aren't pushovers, especially not you. Let them know exactly who they're dealing with, risks of dissapearance be damned!
Support the police from a distance. You can't risk drawing attention to yourself, but the villains' weapons won't be a threat if they're subjected to, cough, "sudden strong winds" that disrupt their aim
Live up to your alias, goddammit! You're called "Ecto" for a reason. Ghostly aesthetics are your whole deal. Turn invisible and beat them up without them ever knowing what hit them!
