Doctor Nope
The Geodoodle
"Our small victory"It used to be like a classic, cheesy comic book superhero story, in the city of Venari. Politicians, police and people in general were confident in the abilities of superpowered individuals to protect them. Heroes and villains could freely battle each other out in the open, and civillians would often treat both like mascots and have fun debating about theoretical fights and similar things. Even some villains became popular by way of their "cool" factor, appealing to pre-teens that had entered their emo phases. Needless to say, it was a very high-profile job to be a superhero.
But now both heroes and villains alike have begun to dissapear without a trace after any kind of public attention is drawn to them. A hero could be proudly smiling for the camera one day, and then cease to be the same evening. Z3NM0, the android superhero that captured the people's hearts when he was finally able to express the affection he had for humanity, was found as a mess of parts and wires in his room the night after he stopped a meteor from falling on the city. Dark Pontifex, a villain known for their ability to seemingly return after any defeat, was never seen again after their bloodstained mask was uncovered in the ruins of their seemingly inpenetrable lair. The losses of beloved heroes and even villains alike have demoralised the once united and optimistic people to the point where they'd rather not have heroes throwing their lives away for them.
While supervillains have resorted to acting from the shadows, heroes are still burdened by the need to fight regular crime at any time, such as bank robberies. These acts alongside even pure rescue operations can bring the risk of them being disposed of by whatever entity is causing this phenomenon. The city has been nearly stripped of it's most powerful protectors, and the authorities became complacent, unable to adapt to the darkening situation. The police are desperately trying to restore their former manpower, which had been diminished during the golden age of heroes.
Eryn Cissnei, a young and inexperienced superhero, having witnessed the deaths of other heroes personally, has been torn between the desire to be a hero and his basic sense of self-preservation. Part of him wants to find the cause of the dissapearances and to avenge his fallen comrades. Part of him would rather lay low and try to survive as is. And part of him just wants to try and protect the few true heroes that remain. He's never even faced a real supervillain on his own before, so he's not quite sure how well that'll go.
Players will be able to decide Eryn's actions, develop his skills in specific ways, help him learn about his powers, and even mould his personality through your choices. The plot will of course also be affected how you act. His fate, and the fates of the friends he makes along the way, will rest in your hands. Perhaps you'll help them achieve at least a small victory?
