For the Itaritenian species, each one possesses within them a 'soul crystal', which acts as a sort of extra lives system for them. Each time an Itaritenian is killed from non-natural causes, and their crystal is not damaged, they can be revived. The crystals also have the ability to regenerate lost limbs. There are some situations where there are some issues. Sometimes one is born with their crystal replacing a vital organ (example: Amaya's crystal replaces her heart), and thus is perpetually active in order to keep her alive, however, due to it the fact it's overworking, Amaya doesn't have the regeneration ability, and is more vulnerable to crystal damage. Those who suffer from this condition also have different colored blood, depending on their crystal's color, which in itself has its own downsides.

Yes, the crystal can often be seen glowing underneath the skin. Some even have the crystal embedded in their skin! Also...one could damage a soul crystal in one of two ways: directly attacking it (i.e. stab through with a sword, shooting it) or through a specific poison that could taint the crystal and cause it to malfunction, often resulting in the crystal attacking itself (results in a faster death to those whose crystal replaces an organ).

There have been, but those who do, don't tend to live long past childhood, and if they do, they often suffer some sort of mental problem.
