[OOC thread] The azure tea house [Creation is your oyster]

Haku1

Ze Hamster of Lurkdom
Welcome, oh prince of the earth, to this humble tea house.

Here you may chat with others of your exalted station on things most out of character.

Alright! So far we've got...

Wood aspect, House Mnemon Elemental intercessor (me)

Wood aspect, House ??? of an unknown nature

Fire aspect, House Mnemon sorceror

Is that a fair breakdown so far? I'm guessing they perhaps all went to Heptagram? It would explain away their knowing one another, unless they were primary school friends who were separated into secondary schools. And I believe we settled on male. (Just making sure I've got it all right). I'm surprisingly nearly done, should have a sheet up today if everything works out.

Why, hello everybody. I'll be your resident Mnemon sorcerer. Charsheet coming before next weekend. Is there an official format? Also, to reiterate a question asked in the recruitment thread: is Scroll of Heroes accepted?

I'll either be: Wood Aspect of House V'Neef, specialized in Medicine and Survival or an Air Aspect of House Ledaal who is all smart with Lore and has a some Sorcery.

So... a total of 8 players.

I might have to break this up into 2 groups/brotherhoods/sisterhoods of 4 depending on you guys.

It's up to you Haku. I'm really flexible, right now I'm reading through the DB sourcebook. I could probably use some help.

It's less the flexible, rather that the larger any group of players the slower posts will occur/come due to people needing to respond to each other. And assuming a post a day....

Sounds reasonable, we should probably divide in two groups then, to avoid slowing things down so much that it cripples the game.

Plus a group of eight is just somewhat unreasonable. :P

I've decided to go with my Air Aspect idea. And I'm highly flexible with anything. So 2 brotherhoods/sisterhoods is all fine by me.

I also have to ask how frequent can you guys post despite the school year starting up...

As that would give fair warning to others and would help determine group set up.

Also, any interest in the directions?

And for those curious, the game starting year would be 750 RY (13 years prior disappearance, which may or may not happen aka 18 years before the normal 'present day' start), 2 years after Thorns 'joins' the realm, and 2 years prior to the Thorns/Realm alliance invasion of the Confederation of Rivers.

I can easily post everyday, probably more than once.

The East sounds interesting but I've got little knowledge of the geography of Creation, so really anything you think is good works for me.

Easily able to post everyday. I have no school. Maybe some work... But only part time.

I'm partial to the East. It's the part of Creation I know most about.

I'm usually able to post at least once a day. If I'm at school, I have access to computers too. Even if it is a small post, I should be able to.

I'm leaning towards playing a monk, either Water or Fire aspect.

And should we somehow want to change settings, its easy to have us move into the Scavenger Lands, or go South...

I'll go ahead and make a Fire Immaculate tonight when I get off work, minus the background. Since its two groups, could we be working together for a common goal... say bring some of the Hundred Kingdoms into the Realm... help the Guild get into Linowan or Halta... or we could be competing. We could all have a common teacher who's testing us, trying to find the best and brightest for some ambiguous goal.

I think that non-connection would be best as otherwise, one group might have to wait upon the other.

I have to agree on that one, it would be best to keep both groups seperate in function as much as possible.

Well, everything so far sounds fun.

Just to clarify...

We're a bunch of recent graduates from the same frat doing the Exalted equivalent of a Eurotrip celebration off to the hinterlands?

Two groups sounds less clunky than one, but we can certainly do occasional team-ups and cameos. Better yet, we could stay in communication and work together without being in the same thread. Like...when group #1 doesn't come back from the cool party in the middle of some dank cave, group #2 can track down or sommat...basically, interactive objectives and progress without the whole being-togetherness.

I'd agree that the East has the most potential because it seems to contain the most hidden stuff and interactive environments, whereas the other directions are primarily based on inaccessibility (e.g. it's underwater or it's so cold that your reproductive organs fall off or it's on fire)...in the East, things are just difficult to navigate and very dangerous. However, I think we should START in the realm, so we can see the start of the journey and then head out and see the gradual transition as we get further and further from society. After all, ALL good traveling/road-trip/exploratory movies and books start back home. Well, some flashback, but that really wouldn't work here.

As for my character, I'm of course influenced by what you people are doing and'm going to try to make someone that fits in with the group dynamic (...should probably snag some of your AIMs), but am kind of predisposed towards either a utility character who can fight, but shines out of combat ORRR...the Orgiastic Fugitive style, or whatever it's called. The one that has you toking and hitting hookahs as flurry actions. Either way, I LOVE thaumaturgy.

With personality, I really need to steep in the material for a few hours and see what others are doing a wee bit, but...well...I kind of have an obsession with fall-from-grace themes and rude awakenings. Seeing as we're basically playing some wet-around-the-ears college kids, there are a lot of growing up themes ripe for use. I'm also addicted to flip facetiousness, so who knows how they'll get woven together for the final stew.

One thing I did notice is that we're rather heavily...sorcery balanced. Should we coordinate so that we all have different takes on that angle?

P.S. Funny story. Just talked to Danakir and it seems like we all might be doing college archetypes. Huh.

P.P.S. Have NO idea how flip you guys want to make this or what angle we're taking, but is anyone up for a race between the two groups as our original MacGuffin? Of course, the threads wouldn't actually be ABOUT the race, but it seems a very post-college-graduation-celebration thing to do amongst a group and would work as a premise. Just a thought.

I'm able to post every day, and my character will be up shortly for review... Not sure on formatting so I just made it as pretty as possible and hopefully easy to follow. All he's missing is motivation and intimacies because the motivation will hopefully tie in to the goal for the brotherhood he's a part of, and if not his intimacies will reflect them.

Two groups: check.

The East: Sure.

College Archetypes: Well, the closest I can find with written documentation might be the Wisecracker http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SitcomCharacterArchetypes. A slightly lazier Chandler with aspirations involving tampering with the Spirit Courts.

You can be from any house and be of any element. But most houses have a majority element. Mnemon is Earth, Cynis is Wood, etc.

Canon examples of this happen to be The Roseblack and Cynis Denovah Avaku.

okay, i've been giving a bit of reading on the DB core book, and considering what has been put on this topic, would an Earth caste from house V'neef be a good option? it could be fitting for The Square role, mostly a somewhat neglected yet hard-working member... i still need to check most mechaniqs, though.

of course, giving that most of the applications seems to be from castes outside their houses favored ones....

Mnemon is Air according to what I was reading? The founder was an Air aspect. That's why it focuses on academics, sorcery and learning above all else, because those are associated with the Air element. Did I seriously misread? -goes back to check-
