CapRock CapRock I added a notebook to my character's equipment since I completely forgot that I need some paper to use my quirk effectively.
Good call. I was bothering me a little bit, actually, to see your character didn't have it. Are those 1000 notebook pages on A4? Your Zoe must have developed quite the strong back carrying that around all day long.

To all active players, I have a little announcement to make. I'll be away for a trip until tuesday, so I won't be posting in the main thread for a while. Shouldn't really be a problem because my character is barely in this arc. Here's some quick observations:

- I'll leave it to you guys to decide how much more you'd like to wait for Nubian_Legend Nubian_Legend and Bornlucky Bornlucky to post in the main thread before heading forward with the story. In any case, I don't see any big deal if they enter the RP after the sirens either.
- I can still answer here in the OOC thread via cellphone, in case you have any questions.
- This last one is more of a request than anything else. Once you get into that building, don't be afraid to think outside of the box! Most importantly, there's nothing in the opening chapter that says an applicant must reach the top floor to shut down the alien Beacon. Maybe you could shut off its power source? Just throwing it out there.

Thank you for reading and see you all soon.

Nope A5 she's physically weak, slow pretty much all she has is a large amount of creativity and flexibility thanks to her quirk.

So I have a bunch of questions, all of them pertaining to points.
  • The Biggest Question : Do we make stuff up or do you have something set up in your head?
    • How easy/hard will it be to actually reach the top floor?
    • How easy/hard will it be to actually defeat each alien?
    • How do we find alien-based intel? Are they marked on pieces of paper scattered around the map or do we defeat an enemy and a clue lies in there scraps? Also, do you have some in mind or do we just make something up? Also, are resources for this limited as in is there a limited number of clues and only one person can submit each one, or something like that
    • You already touched on this but how easy/hard will it be to disable the beacon device.
  • How many points do you expect our characters to recieve? Are you going to determine the rankings and amount of points we receive, due to the competitive aspect of the school being one of it's key features?

I might have more later on. ;D

Sup people, I'm back. I'm currently waiting on for Psychonaut Psychonaut , our last player, to post his character in the CS to move on with the story. In the meantime, let me answer Webs Elk Webs Elk 's questions:

The Biggest Question : Do we make stuff up or do you have something set up in your head?
I'm aiming for an open RP, so everyone can make a bit of the story themselves. The one condition is that, if your description or event will affect heavily the other characters (e.g. if you want to collapse one of the building's floors during the test) then state your ideas in this thread first so that people can discuss it.
I have quite a few plans in my head myself, the most obvious one being the first villain arc. I'll narrate them into the story as the opportunities for them show up.

  • How easy/hard will it be to actually reach the top floor?

  • How easy/hard will it be to actually defeat each alien?
I don't want to put hard numbers on this, but this is the most prestigious hero school in the west, so expect challenges on your way. Your Gakuon seemed pretty confident about climbing to the top, but has he accounted for traps and toppled staircases? Plus it's like 1800 steps in 20 minutes, which is meant to give some important points to mobility-based quirks and characters.

How do we find alien-based intel? Are they marked on pieces of paper scattered around the map or do we defeat an enemy and a clue lies in there scraps? Also, do you have some in mind or do we just make something up? Also, are resources for this limited as in is there a limited number of clues and only one person can submit each one, or something like that
The alien-related can be any piece of easily recognizable data source you can imagine, as long as it is hidden in such a way that favors utility quirks and strategic thinking since this is meant to help those types of heroes score points. I'll explain more about what's in them in my next main thread post. Finally, I don't see any good reason to make them limited, so until someone argues against it let's say there's enough for anyone who cares to look after them.

You already touched on this but how easy/hard will it be to disable the beacon device.
Should be the hardest thing to do for sure. Preferably something that'll either require multiple students and/or put near applicants in danger.

How many points do you expect our characters to recieve? Are you going to determine the rankings and amount of points we receive, due to the competitive aspect of the school being one of it's key features?
My intentions are to announce the points as this first arc ends by controlling one of the teachers, but they'll reflect exactly what you've accomplished in your character's entries unless I'm asked otherwise. If anyone wants to do the announcement or has a specific requirement for this, they can ask it here or via PM.

CapRock CapRock

OH CRAP!

I actually skimmed over the most important part of your post: The fact that there's a time limit.

That definitely explains the points system though. Since there's different objectives, it's also testing the ability of each examinee to make a smart decision, isn't it?

With only 20 minutes, someone who tries to complete all the objectives is destined to score lower than someone who chooses fewer goals, which makes sense. Working on multiple goals and not finishing any of them is worse than focusing on one and completing it. In other words, just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. As such, stick to what you know you can do well.

With that in mind, This is how I envision the floors to be set up, keeping in mind we only have 20 minutes.

Lower Levels (1-10): Investigative Levels & Beacon - Going to contain a few enemies and a few traps to hide the real purpose. Going to be the easiest floors to escape. These floors are going to be the floors that hold a majority of the clues about alien based intel, but only if you spot the hard to see places. Will probably also contain blueprints of (lol) or information about the alien beacon to encourage teamwork as it'll be impossible to do it alone within the 20 minutes. ;D

Lower Middle (11-20): Investigative & Attack - Where the average Applicant will be expected to make it. This is where most of the actual alien intel will be contained, but you'll only know unless you accidentally stumble upon it or found a clue in the lower levels. This is also where a good majority of the aliens are, as well as hostages.

Middle (21-30): Attack & Beacon - Not as many hostages, but still just as many aliens. Those who only focus on fighting will probably make it here. This is also probably where the beacon is held. However, you'll have to fight through the alien boss to reach it.

Upper Middle (31-40): Mobility - These floors don't have nearly as many aliens as the lower levels, but there's a lot of traps. Not much to say about this area

Upper (41-50): Mobility & Beacon - The power source to the beacon is stored in the penthouse. However, these floors contain the most traps and are more decrepit and prone to collapse than the rest of the floors to make it hard to actually reach the beacon.

EDIT : I also have an idea of how to disable the beacon that requires teamwork.

People required : A Mobility based hero, a intelligence gathering hero, a fighter hero, a Hostage Saving Hero.

To turn off the beacon, you have to disable three things: the power source, the control panel, and the security grid.

The Power Source is located on the top floors. It's really simple to turn off as you just flip a switch. However, it's the hardest of the three things to get to, due to the time limit, traps, and decrepit upper level floors. This is a job for a mobility hero. EDIT: The power source is also hidden in a place that only someone who's looking for it can actually find it. Like inside a light bulb or something.

The Control Panel is located in the middle levels. However, to turn it off you have to use a key, and that key is held by the alien boss. To get the key, you have to defeat him first. This is a job for heroes who are built for battle. Keep in mind that this key doesn't actually look like a key. You'll only know that it's the key if you're looking for it, as it'll be in some unusual shape (because aliens)

However, this alien boss is stronger the more "special" hostages there are in the building, being nigh unstoppable when no one has been saved. As such, the Hostage Saving Hero must spend sometime weakening the alien boss. To make this different from heroes who are only working towards hostage points, the hostage saving hero must answer a question that the hostages ask that they'll only know the answer too if they were working towards disabling the beacon.

The Security Grid is located in the basements of the tower. However, most applicants will be unaware that the basement even exists unless they put all the clues together, a job for an investigative hero. Once you enter the basements, your job isn't done. You'll have to use your intelligence and awareness to disable the traps standing before you as well as decipher the passcode needed to turn off the security grid.

It's definitely impossible for one person to complete all of these steps alone in 20 minutes.

Anyway, keeping in mind everything, I think that the average applicant will get in between 4 - 250 points, but our characters will get at the very least 150 points, with most being expected to get at least 250.

Also, another part to add onto my idea for the beacon - "I did my job!"
Just in case a teammate is unsuccessful in doing their part to disable the beacon, I think each job is 50 points and the disabling of the beacon gives everyone who helped 200 points. This means two things. 1) Your not completely penalized if you start helping to disable the beacon but no one else completes their task. 2)This also means that if someone does multiple tasks towards disabling the beacon, they get rewarded more than someone who only did one task.

If multiple people work on one task: for example, two mobility heroes work together to reach the power source, they split the 50 points. In my example, each of the mobility heroes would get 25 points. However, both of them still get 200 points seperately if the beacon is successfully disabled.

Webs Elk Webs Elk that's a very nice analysys there, I've got to give it to you. I'll post later tonight and I'll put in an abridged version of it if no one's got any quarrels with it.

Sorry for not posting anything for so long, I just stopped receiving notification for the main thread so I assumed it had died.

Anyway, I'm a bit confused by your post Zamasu Zamasu . Can you explain what you mean by the "She then takes hold of the blondie's hand...or is it? "Huh? Why is your hand so light and flat? It almost feel like there is nothing at all." She would ask." part?

attempts to fly up or otherwise traverse the outside of the building will be met by concentrated fire from the aliens on the upper floors

thoughts?

She is unaware that your character has one arm.

You know, after that explosive start this RP saw last week, I didn't expect the main thread to go silent for so long like that.

I was trying to wait for Zoe ( The Huntsman The Huntsman ) to react before posting again. I guess I could come up with something though.

Speaking of which, does anyone else want to work on the beacon? If so, I'm up for it, as I did spend some time coming up with a plan for it.

Anyway, I feel like all of our characters should be involved since our characters are the focus of the RP. Then again, maybe it would be better for it to be a smaller group, but anyway,

Who's up for some beacon destroying with me?

I'd be up for helping out with destroying the beacon.

I feel like our characters would get along pretty well for some reason ...

Anyway, your character is probably best suited for destroying the alien boss.

Just so you know, if we get at least two other people, I'm going to make Gakuon do whatever task needs to be done. However, if everyone wants to do it, I'm going to make Gakuon an investigative hero.

Sorry for not being terribly active, my step dad had an unexpected medical emergency and I had to keep an eye on him for a few days but I'm here and back!

Webs Elk Webs Elk But with your plan I have an idea on how to make my character of use since at the current state we really don't have a mobility hero except for my character but it takes a bit to become fast unless hit by kinetic force which Nolan will be of use! Also there's Beatrice. But She might better for the hostage saving part Anyways SolemnSongbird SolemnSongbird Would you mind if Nolan hits My character to increase his abilities so that he can be the mobility hero that the group needs? Since he needs to be hit by kinetic force to reach his upper limit quickly.

That's great.

My character isn't fit to be labeled as a mobility hero, despite having a few tricks up his sleeves that allows him to move as quickly and agile as a mobility hero.

So we have a Attack Hero, A Mobility Hero, and an Investigative Hero. Now all we need is a Hostage saving hero.

Do you have a name for this movie that this test is based off of? I plan on using that as the starting basis for my character finding the alien files whenever I get my next post out

Also, Bornlucky Bornlucky , Zen is going to hate Gaku's poker face and general lack of interest in everything he doesn't particularly care about. Besides that fact, I can definite;ly see them getting along as well.

Good to see you guys back here planning stuff.
I'll give the missing users a few more days to show any signs of life. If they don't, I won't have a choice but to come up with some rulings regarding user activity. Don't worry too much about it, no one's getting banned or killed over it, though you might be briefly turned into an NPC.
Bornlucky Bornlucky no worries dude, you're still well in time to participate in the test. Hope your stepdad gets (and stays) well!
Webs Elk Webs Elk The whole "alien beacon on Manhattan skyscraper" thing is a double reference for the Avengers and Transformers 3, but as you may have noticed, the whole test (and even Queens Hero High as a whole) is just filled to the brim with Hollywood references, so please do reference your favorite american movies as you please!

I'm just waiting for a response from Platypus Platypus . Until then, I'll have my character be the one to do the fighting while the rest can do something about the beacon.

Hear this out folks, this is important.
It has come to my attention that this RP has a wide variety of user posting frequencies. Aiming to make a better coexistence amongst everyone, I've decided to set up a few guidelines on activity. Here's how it'll work:

-If any user (myself included) doesn't post in any of QHH's threads for a set time, their character will temporarily default to an NPC and the others may progress the story right away. Time you've spent waiting for a response either here or on the main thread won't count towards this limit.

-Anyone can control that former character as long as they don't cause permanent changes to them (e.g. losing a limb, learning a new skill or dying). The character's owner may not retcon whatever actions he or she was forced to take as an NPC, so let's do our best to keep those actions tame and in character. If that character isn't currently interacting with anyone, I will add a small section for them in my posts. Also always mark the OG user just in case they come back.

-If you ever feel like you need a little more time than usual, don't panic! All you have to do is tell us here in this thread and we will wait for your post, no questions asked. If you've been away from some time and your character has become an NPC, just tell me you're back and I'll gladly restore their control to you. This isn't supposed to be a punishment, just a guarantee to everyone that the story will progress at a steady pace even if someone disappears.

- If someone doesn't post anything for 30 days and without previous warning, I'll open up their spot for new players. They can rejoin anytime if there are any spots left.

- The time you can spend without showing up will be decided by the poll I've just created, which will last for 1 week or until we have a decisive winner.

I believe this is all. If you have any issues with this decision, feel free to contact me and I'll listen to your opinions. Otherwise, don't forget to vote!
