OOC (Rebirth of Brilliance)

I'll probably go for a Zenith artist with no combat capabilities whatsoever, because 3e charms are a pain in the ass enough already that I don't want to learn 3e combat.
Will have the minimum of Resistance charms for survivability.

Hey guys

I'm caught up with the plot now and pondering characters. The ones I had lined up have a rather large feel and ability overlap with Callas and/or Ailera, so I'm probably not going to go for any of those. Is there anything you guys feel might suit the group particularly well? Based on the line-up @WlfSamurai is counting on, the only thing missing caste-wise is a Night, but your Dawn has a pretty good Night game. I'm thinking a general might be a good fit, since those are always useful, but I'm not set on anything.

Since I generally really enjoy playing Dynasts, I was thinking of maybe being part of the ambassador's party. Alternatively, I can't help noticing that the subject of Ailera's defining intimacy has vanished without a trace, so maybe I could pick up that particular slack with a bit of retconjuration if @Sherwood is interested in that.

I look forward to kicking some life back into this game in the new year :)

I would play whatever you want. Even if there's overlap. I'd normally say that anyway, but @JayTee and @Sherwood are the only ones left, at this point.

Sounds good to me.

Well, if @Blackadder isn't around anymore, I have a Dynastic bureaucrat up my sleeve. Question is whether to go with the behind-the-scenes-manipulator variant or the spy-master variant. Thoughts are appreciated, and @Sherwood (or anyone else) if you've had time to catch up on things, I'd like to know if you think it'd be fun to coordinate backstories.

Alright, we've got the Bureaucracy and Socializing covered :) I'm gonna go with a military leader of some persuasion then, I think. I'm tempted to give a third attempt of actually playing V'Neef Suhiko (old link), mortal granddaughter of the Empress and anathema patriot. With a bit of tweaking to her backstory, she could well be in the imperial delegation. Not sure how she'd feel about supporting rebels against the Realm, though, but that should be solvable too and a bit of internal conflict isn't all bad ;)

Suhiko now has stats: https://www.rpnation.com/topic/288178-vneef-suhiko/

I haven't updated the backstory, but I figure it's largely unchanged except that she has her exaltation in private while writing a letter to her mother outlining the fundamental risks to the Realm as a consequence of the Empress's disappearance. What her mother does with that letter, and whether she notices that it looks as if it's been lying in the Southern sun for a couple of months is of course up to the ST.

So, what is the status of the game? Are we starting a new thread, or are we sticking with the current arc so far? I just want to make sure before starting to post once more.

Also, what are we doing about my love interest? Is Million Blossoms going to be an npc, or is she getting written out of the story?

If you fancy a bit of retconjuration and think it'd work, I'd be happy to have Suhiko try and fill that role in some capacity.

Just so long as you don't mind being targeted by a group of assassins that Ailera was once a part of. In my history, she had fallen in love with her latest target, and instead of killing her, she warns her of the plot against her life and runs off with her. Perhaps they were hired by a rival in your House?

Another house is probably more likely, V'Neefs stick together and she didn't exactly make friends at the House of Bells. But I don't mind assassins at all, need to work on those Awareness Charms ;)

Cool deal. I don't know who hired the assassins, but Ailera is keeping her eyes open for them herself, to protect both of you from her former allies.

How nice of her ;) What sort of timeline did you have in mind for the whole assassination-turned-romance thing? And would they have been together all of the intervening time? Despite her Exaltation, Suhiko is at heart at dutiful dynast as best she can be, which limits the amount of running around with a solar assassin, no matter how beloved. Plus, it messes up the timeline. My suggestion would be that their affair happened some time ago, perhaps while Aleira was on the Blessed Isle, and they've been in communication in the mean time and have arranged to meet up here and now.

I like it. In the time apart, I was writing to draw the assassins away from you and try to find out who hired them.

Makes sense. Suhiko has likely done her own investigations, but they're of a different sort.

@Sherwood If you're interested, it might be fun to do some flashback-rp'ing of their early encounters to establish their relationship, and have something to do while we wait for @WlfSamurai to update ;)

I want this game to flourish and we have new interest. I'm just not sure yet how to get it there. It's been wracking my brain for days. I'm open to ideas.

I'm not entirely sure the following is quite what you solicited, but here goes.

#1: Make sure the players have something to do. That usually takes the form of frequent, substantial and relevant updates, and requires quite a bit of work. Alternatively, put the PCs in a situation where they can have meaningful and extended discussions among themselves. This, of course, sounds pretty easy, but I know it's a lot of work and I have frequently found it to be too much work for m, so I appreciate your efforts.

#2: Make sure each of the PCs has a goal they care about, and preferably one that complements the goals of the other PCs, and that they have some clue as to how to work towards it.

#3: Have fleshed out and engaging NPCs with goals and ambitions of their own who make sense in the story, and don't just seem placed in the world like some deus ex machina.

You're right. That's not what I meant. But that's a good list.

I'd like to get everyone working together rather than splitting company. Let me consider the approach.

@Sherwood, I'd love to have your friend join. Let's get this thing rolling.
