Everything Out-of-Character related goes in here including general discussions and off-topic tomfoolery.

For reference, I asked how long the inn has been in business, and the answer I got was 15 years.

Woohoo! I'm kinda busy writing on my novel now, but I'll try to get a character up either today or else somewhat later in the week.

Yep. I'm a novel writer. Unpublished as of now, but I got one manuscript that's ready to be send to a publisher. Once my proofreader gave me some feedback, that is.

This one publisher asks for only the first three chapters for a check to see if they want it, so my proofreader is reading them, will give me feedback., I'll make edits with the feedback, and then send it.

Then, in 8-12 weeks, I'll hear from the publisher ^_^

So though I have enough for the publisher, I'm writing on and on. I got the entire second arc finished already, and only need one chapter more at the end. I'm now doing the beginning. I know it's a strange order, but I have a complete (not too good) draft in English ready. I'm now just making a proper version in my native language, so it's mostly translation work (and I got stuck at the beginning for a bit)

Thanks! I'm pumped for the RP to start, seems like we have a pretty good group here.

I hope it's okay that my CS is WIP! I'm on my phone right now and didn't want to type the longer stuff until I switched over to my laptop.

Yes, the (first) book in the series is called: Het Drakenoog: Dageraad van bloed (The Dragon's Eye: Dawn of blood)

It's about two kingdoms. In one, dragons and their riders are killed. In the other kingdom dragons and humans live together in harmony. The dragon-slaying kingdom starts a war against the kingdom where they live in harmony with dragons. Their secret weapon: A Dragon's Eye, a stone that pacifies dragons. Some of the characters are going to infiltrate the enemy lines.

There's spies, intrigue, loyalty, questioning your own motives, betrayal, love, dragons, battles, monsters, some magic... And it's almost done ^_^ (Well, the first book that is xD I'm already planning the second one)

Thank you very much ^_^ I'm eager to hear my proofreader's feedback so I know if I can send the first three chapters to the publisher~ And then it's waiting to see what they think. But I'm pretty damn confident since everyone who read my synopsis thinks it's amazing. Even people who hardly know me so I know they don't just say it because they're my friends :3

I could translate my synopsis to English and show it off here, so you guys can say what you think? (note that the actual novel (if published) will be in Dutch (until they decide it's so awesome they'll translate it) )

c: That would be cool! I'd love to read what you can translate.

Translation is no big deal for me. Although Dutch is my native language, I use English so much that it's pretty much my second language. Plus, the first draft of both book 1 and 2 are in English. When it comes to fantasy I prefer writing in English above Dutch because I think many things just sound better. But... well... I wouldn't know how it'd work to publish in (for example) America if I live in the Netherlands, so I'd rather just publish here first (the publisher I have my eye on has international contacts anyway)

Gimme some time and I'll have it translated tonight. I first want to have a draft up for my character xD

Yeah, that's understandable. I wish you luck with publishing!

Cool, thanks~!

Do note: a synopsis contains spoilers, because it's for the publisher to get an idea of the whole story. So it's not like the text on the back of a book.

Alright! I got it~

I present you, an English synopsis of the book:

The calm, peace, and fate of Gallantir are put on the line when one day the refugee Jisara and her dragon Setsubi land in the woods. There she meets Alice and Oliver, to whom she explains she came from Yamaku, the land behind the mountain range, and how they have slain dragons and their riders for many generations. According to the Yamaku laws dragons are monsters that have to be exterminated at all costs, and riders are seen as a danger to the ordinary people. Since she is a rider too, she had to flee to stay out of the army’s hands. She shares the story on how her best friend betrayed her and how her home was destroyed. Both Alice and Oliver are determined to help Jisara. In Gallantir humans and dragons live together in harmony, so she should be safe here. Little do they know the Aishoph, ruler of Yamaku, now has his eyes on the once so peaceful kingdom. They find this out quickly enough when Alice and Oliver are warned by a young dragonkeeper, who tells them the Yamaku army is coming towards their village. The two don’t want to burden Jisara with this news, so they leave the village with an excuse and set out on a journey together. Soon enough, however, they have the misfortune of running into a war camp and get attacked. Now that all three realize even Gallantir cannot escape the tyranny of the Aishoph, they decide to give it their all to not only save their own lives, but to also protect the whole of Gallantir against a terrible, dragonless future.

This is the beginning of a dangerous journey that won’t be without trouble. Two Yamaku-hating griffins with a grudge against Oliver are the least of their worries with an enemy battalion nearby and a monster stalking the forest at night. To add in on that, said forest is a living organism with a conscience of its own. During the journey, Oliver gets more and more determined to sneak into Yamaku and infiltrate the enemy lines to look for information that could be of aid. Knowing he can’t do it on his own, Alice calls in the help of her older brother Nigel. The group splits, and while Nigel and Oliver prepare for a perilous mission on enemy territory, Jisara and Alice travel on to Dragonpoint, Gallantirs capital city, to warn Alice’s childhood friend, nobody less but the prince, about the coming danger.

Shortly after their arrival in Yamaku, Nigel and Oliver, here under the cover names of Tetsuya and Sen, meet a man by the name of Syreo. He might seem like a simple bounty- and dragonhunter, but there is more to him than meets the eye. Together they join the Yamaku army where they, after having faced some trouble, learn about the army’s secret weapon: a Dragon’s Eye. This mysterious stone has the power to pacify dragons. For reasons unknown, Oliver feels strangely attracted to the stone. When Syreo notices, he decides to protect Oliver instead of turning him over to their superiors. He warns the boy that things end unpleasantly for those who feel a bond to the stone, and that no matter what happens, he shouldn’t answer its calling. Not much later Syreo learns not only the truth about his newfound friends, but also one about his own past. Now that he knows his friends are infiltrators and that his little brother was murdered by the army instead of having had an accident, he is put in two minds. Should he follow his loyalty to the realm, or should he listen to his conscience? The last time he was put in a similar situation, he chose loyalty, leading to the betrayal of his best friend, Jisara, and left her for dead. It is a mistake he is not willing to make again, but does he really have the courage to simply put his loyalty aside and break laws? Soon he realizes the only way to clear his conscience is to do the latter. This is put to the test even more when the army somehow does learn of Oliver’s bond with the eye and the boy is imprisoned. Together with Nigel they risk their own lives to safe Oliver from certain death. But during their flight from Yamaku, Oliver only starts doing worse and worse. Dragon scales start growing over his body. This confronts Syreo with one of the biggest secrets of his former home. A secret he cannot speak of just yet. Once back in Gallantir the three head to Dragonpoint as fast as they can and the group is reunited. Jisara is, logically, not quite happy to face her treacherous friend again, and the question remains if she will ever be able to forgive him for his mistakes.

In the meantime Gallantir learns the Yamaku army is closer to the capital than they had expected. Slowly, their time is running out. Gallantir is still full of Yamaku spies, they have less people capable of fighting, and then there’s the fact Yamaku is not in the possession of just one but multiple Dragon’s Eyes. This renders Gallantirs main weapon, dragons, useless. But with the papers Syreo stole from Yamaku, and the secret of their former home, Gallantir might just have a small chance to make a stand in the invasion. Jisara and Syreo to both have a patch of dragon scales on their bodies, and that it gave them certain powers normally only reserved for dragons. The question remains if this will be enough. Can Gallantir withstand the invasion and safe her people? Or will it just become new Yamaku territory?

Oh my gosh, this sounds super cool.

I'll have to learn Dutch so I can read it ^w^

Thank you ^_^ Another one to add to the pile of people who think it's great xD Seriously, everyone tells me this. People I know, people I don't know... Makes me rather confident and hopeful the publishers I'll send it to will think the same :D (the 3 month wait is already killing me, haha XD)

And hey... if it gets super popular I'm sure it'll be translated :P

Still, if you wanna learn Dutch that's fine too, haha. (I met several people on here who want to learn Dutch)

@Fizh Yeah, it's fine that it's a WIP, just make sure to remove it the "WIP" when you're finished.

@marorda From the excerpt that I read, it definitely has potential. I couldn't understand it fully because there's certain terminology in there that I'm assuming you'll only understand with more reading. But, other that that, it's pretty great.
