Magellan is broken. The man one-shot Black Beard and his entire crew nonchalantly. The whole escaping party during the Impel Down arc were scared shitless of him. All they could do was run.

Introduction
Sweet D. Red, also known as “King Cobra” and commonly as “Cobra”, is one of the several candidates to be a part of the new era of YONKO. He is the founder and captain of the Sweet Red Pirates and has once been said that no man, woman or child in the four blues or Paradise can measure up to half of his power once he is serious/enraged. His lifelong dream is to rule over the largest territory in the One Piece world and to carry out the murder of the admirals in front of the whole world. Red is very well known all over the world, having defeated several royal warlords and high ranking marines, leaving the forehead of their corpses marked with his signature jolly roger. His bloodlust is legendary, and he contains the will of “D”, making him someone that the World Government always seeks an eye on.

Appearance
Red is a man of massive stature, dwarfing most of those around him while being immensely muscular, most likely due to his giant heritage. Aside from the Giants under his employ as well as Menzu, his navigator, Red is the tallest person in his crew. Some of his most distinguishing features are the dorsal fin protruding from his back like a spike, razor sharp teeth in his mouth and scale-like brown skin. The belt he wears around his waist bears the jolly roger of his crew as a buckle while also sporting several spikes protruding outward all around it. Red usually likes to wear a sleeveless green vest accompanied by long black pants and thick black combat boots but does make appropriate changes when visiting islands of different climates. A white hat is attached to his side and he can be seen wearing it forward or backwards facing from time to time, hiding his spiky black hair.

He has piercing green eyes that he has been told enhances his black mustache and beard combo while also making him easy on the female eyes. Looking past his immense muscular frame, one can see the large war hammer he carries on his back and a black box he carries on the opposite side of his hat that carries his steel knuckles that he loves so dearly. Years of learning how to smith and brutal fights have left his hands visibly scarred as well as tough to the touch.

Personality
Depending on who’s opinion you ask, you could get varying opinions on Red’s personality. While mixed and matched to some degree, there are some common threads in terms of his personality: Stark Intelligence, Fearlessness, Wisdom, Immense Bloodlust, Honorable.

Inside his chambers, there are several ceiling height bookshelves filled to their maximum with books, pamphlets and journals containing information on an array of subjects and disciplines. Before going on voyages, he can be found here refreshing his knowledge and replacing books that have been outdated or have newer versions. He has claimed to read every book in his library hundreds of time over and has given his library credit for the amazing variation he has with his devil fruit. Many books talk about poisons secreted by different animals and their composition, allowing Red to develop such poison himself from his devil fruit and extend his power even more.

Red shows a wide range of emotions while also being able to think rationally and make the right decisions under stressful conditions. On the battlefield, he never wears his emotions on his sleeve and will never break down even when things seem to be going totally off course. In one such instance, when he encountered a force of several vice admirals that intended to invade his territory, he engaged with them in battle and defeated them without a second thought. Even as a child on little garden, he fought the terrors of the jungle purely on will and his desire to survive, crippling any sense of fear that would ever grow in his body.

At the age of fifty-five, Red has red several hundred works of the greatest scientists, storytellers and workers the One Piece universe has to offer while also living in several places and acting as an information sponge. The adventures of his crew as well as his personal journey have taught him many things and he uses these experiences to gain the upper hand on his foes who lack experience and even more seasoned marines and pirates.

Growing up on the prehistoric island of Little Garden has no doubt left Red with a primal spirit that some who face him might call evil, preferring to horribly mutilate his opponents and some occasions, rip them in half. He uses this as a scare tactic to discourage people from messing with his crew and territory but even in battle, in a fit of rage, he can be turned into an insatiable beast. Being part fishman (Bull shark mother) doesn’t help the matter either and in his opinion, is a curse and a blessing wrapped all in one.

Red doesn’t appreciate people interfering with his fights and has scolded several of his crew for interfering with a fight that he thought they had no business bothering with. Refusing to fight an opponent who isn’t at full strength or not claiming victory over an opponent who was fighting at subpar strength is a quality that he has as well.

Sweet D. Red is a monster in his own right but shows love and affection to those who inhabit his territory, frequently calling them his family. He does seek to become a Yonko of the New World and possibly Pirate King but is not foolish enough to think that he can do it by himself and frequently puts himself in situations where he can make strong allies with mutual benefits.

Relationships
Original Crew:
Red treats his original crew likes members of his intermediate family, proving that he loves them by saving them from their individual struggles and inviting them to join him on his quest of strength. They are the only people in the world that he completely trusts and from this group of ten, he has all positions on his ship covered. They seem to have a mental link with each other, finishing one another’s sentences and having phenomenal teamwork between them. While the whole world views him as a savage monster, they are apart of the few people that have direct relationship with him and he can be his true self around. He rarely ever smiles and laughs when he isn’t around them but can’t help but to do the same when they are in the vicinity. They represent an extension of his heart and he will stop at nothing to get them back and to see them well even if it means his own demise.

Allies:
Through many gallons of blood and sweat, Red has made a plethora of allies over his years as a pirate. By providing a steady supply of information, manpower and or minerals he has gained the trust of his allies and vice versa. Red isn’t a deceitful man and usually says what he thinks or feels without regard to how it may make others feel, making people draw towards him for his sense of honesty and realism.

Enemies:
The blood on Red’s hands is immense and as such, the enemies he has are also large. Some people seek his head simply for the immense bounty on his head while others just don’t him because of his animalistic tendencies or personality.

Abilities and Powers
Being one of several pirates closest to becoming a candidate for the new era of YONKO, he is no slouch in power and has a wide range of abilities, skills and knowledge that could prove fatal in any encounter with him. Being part Bullshark Fishman and Giant means that his physical abilities are far beyond that of an ordinary human and account for his enormous muscle mass.

Physical Abilities:
One of his most amazing feats of strength in the series was in his fight with the user of the castle fruit, shattering the building when its user transformed into the large castle with an armament haki infused hammer strike. The resulting blast left the user of the castle fruit fully paralyzed and immediately shifted their body back to its regular form, proving his skill and prowess as a melee fighter. His hardened venom bullets which he makes with his fruit can he thrown with extreme precision from his own hand, comparable to high speed rounds shot from a rifle. His immense speed and reflexes have allowed him to compete with some devil fruits whose powers give them supernatural boosts in speed, showcased when he outran a cheetah Zoan devil fruit user and even reacted to attacks from the user of the spring fruit in combat.

Devil Fruit:
Red is the current and some would say, the most powerful user of the Venom Fruit, a paramecia devil fruit that allows him to create and control all types of poisons and toxins as well as making him immune to them all. The poison can range from simple poison gas to potent neurotoxins that can shut down a person’s bodily functions to vibrant burgundy poison that has highly acidic properties, showing to have burnt through steel and solid stone. According to his studies on poison derived from various scientists and different species of animals, he has a wide variety of poisons that serve different purposes. Red is very creative with his fruit, using it to create a large venom dragon at one point while at another occasion, using hardened venom tendrils as extra appendages that he can then coat with haki at will. Through many years of usage, Red has awakened his devil fruit, allowing him to turn inorganic material in the area into venom for him to control at will.

Haki:
Red is one of the few people in the world of One Piece who can use all three types of haki and rarer still, to greater affect. His haki is stated to be some of the greatest in the series and he frequently beats others without using his devil fruit because of it.

Observation – Some advanced users of Observation Haki have been shown to see a few moments into the future and Red is one of them who can do so. His haki also allows him to feel the spirit/aura of people similarly to Admiral Fujitora and Sanji from the original series. His skill is only further demonstrated in conjunction with his devil fruit, when he disperses himself within a large amount of poison and uses his haki to see where attacks would land and open holes where they would otherwise hit, giving his fruit the appearance of a logia.

Armament – Red has some of the strongest armament haki in the one piece world, being able to send shockwaves towards opponents and vulcanize his body and equipment just like Silvers Rayleigh from the original series. One such instance showed him clashing with two Yonko commanders at the same time with his haki infused arm against a fist and leg casually. He has an affinity for this type of haki, making it even stronger.

Conquerors – There is a one in several million chance in getting Conqueror’s Haki since it can’t be taught but it just so happens that Red has this type of haki, which allows him to exert his willpower over others, knocking out severely weaker opponents with ease. It also allows Red to pacify and make friends with dangerous beasts, allowing him to further his research if they do have poison inside them.

BACKSTORY: (In the form of a story)

In the West Blue, on the island of Saiko, there was an enormous deposit of rubies that could be used for various purposes such as expensive jewelry, armor pieces or general decoration. This would simply not fetch a good price in any of the blues since resources like this could generally be found in random caves located on every other island if you looked deep enough. However, these rich stones were not native to the Grand Line and would fetch a great price there. This information was not privy to the inhabitants of the West Blue and they simply sat on what could be a potential fortune. This was the way of the West Blue until the local newspaper ran a story where some adventurous pirate crews from the West Blue crossed into the Grand Line and sold a small bag of rubies for approximately one million belly. The story spread like wildfire through the West Blue and every hack with a ship was trying to become a billionaire, gathering as much rubies as their ship could carry and trying to traverse into the Grand Line. The pirates of the world learned of this potential fortune as well and many honest sailors would find their demise at the end of a flintlock or cutlass in the sake of belly in the eyes of their murderers.

The only problem with this plan many West Blue inhabitants had was that they would have to be strong enough to traverse the seas, battling severe weather patterns, sea kings and pirates AND go up Reverse Mountain to enter the Grand Line, which held ever MORE dangers for them in its seas. To counteract this, a shipbuilding company in the area named “Sure Sails” partnered with a famous pirate crew called the “Malone Pirates”, the strongest crew in the area and made a deal with them. The deal consisted of the “Sure Sail” company providing the crew with three state of the art ships filled with Rubies and the Malone pirates where to sail to the Grand Line and make a profit that would be split in half with the two entities. The company was not at all worried about the crew making it back with said profit because of the sheer power of two of the Malone Pirate’s strongest warriors; Malone the Giant and Lola the Bullshark Fishwoman.

They were the captain and first-mate of the Malone Pirates, the group that almost brought the West Blue to its heels, but they decided to seize this opportunity nonetheless. They had a son together who was about 7 years old at the time and wanted something different for him rather than this life of pillaging and looting and planned to use their share of the money to disband the crew and live normal lives somewhere secret. Keeping this information to themselves, they journeyed towards the Grand Line with their crew, knocking out Sea Kings on the way, slaughtering crews on their way and taking any rubies they saw. The treck up reverse mountain proved fatal, eliminating a third of their crew but they managed to keep the original ruby supply intact and kept pressing on to their original goal.

Morale was dropping along with the conditions of the ships as they tackled the harsh weather of the grand line. Mutiny was soon started and abruptly shut down, forcing Malone and Lola to kill some of their crew, leaving just ten members from their original one hundred. With repairs stacking upward and man power lowering by the day, the two vessels finally crashed on Little Garden, an island in the new World. The crash had taken their remaining crew members and all that was left amongst the shattered shoreline of Little Garden was the crew’s Captain, his first mate and his son. They were in a weakened state at this point and where easily defeated by the local fauna that came sprinting out of the jungle at the smell of new prey.

With his father in the jaws of a hungry Tyrannosaurus and his mother being carted away by a raptor that was slightly larger than her, the young child had no other option but to follow them and try his best to save them. He followed the blood curdling screams of his mother and the large blood droplets leaking from his father’s body. When the dinosaurs finally reached a clearing, his father’s bottom half had been sawed off by the Tyrannosaurus that was munching away only a few feet from his father’s torso while the raptor’s skin had turned a different color, likely dying from the fight his mother had put up since she got bit. With desperation oozing from looks at their injuries and the child they were leaving to die, the parents looked at each other and offered an “I love you” to their child as they met death at his door.

The Tyrannosaurus was fed up with the Giant meat and taking a minute to look at the raptor, deemed that eating Lola was not a viable option. Looking to the smaller life form before him, the Tyrannosaurus opened its jaws and charged at the young man, its intent to kill sprawled all over its face. The young man knew that he couldn’t let his parents die in vain and with a burst of willpower, held his two hands outstretched to meet the large carnivore. Suddenly, a large burst of force flowed from his hands and knocked the dino clean in the head and into a tree, shattering the creature’s skull and splintering the tree in the process. Just like young Doflamingo, this young man had awakened his haki in a dire situation but would only know its significance in the future.

The Tyrannosaurus he had scarfed down upon that day had red scales, but they couldn’t stop his carnivorous instincts from taking over and exploiting his immense strength, carving the creature up with his sharpened nails and jaws. From that day forward, he had decided to call himself “Red”. Now, this wouldn’t work as he needed a last name etc. He remembered back into a few days ago when his parents were deciding what to name him. His father’s name was Sweet D. Malone and his mother was simply Lola. Inheriting the will of “D” from his father, he named himself Sweet D. Red and began to train to become stronger on the island of little garden, killing things ten times his size, increasing his speed, reflexes and even growing knowledge of edible and non-edible things on the island. He would use his ability to breathe underwater and his immense swimming skills to hunt fish and to his surprise, communicate with some of the larger fish.

After a few years of growing up in this harsh environment, Red was an apex predator on the island. He could produce the shockwave he had first used against the Tyrannosaur years ago if he fully concentrated for a moment. All was going well until a marine ship docked at Little Garden to hunt game on its way towards the next island on its journey; Alabasta. It is here where after distracting the hunters for a moment after they killed a rather large dino, hid inside the creature’s flesh after burrowing inside of it as a stowaway of sorts. Once arriving at the kingdom of Alabasta, he made a name for himself by competing in underground fighting rings, using his giant fishman heritage along with his armament haki shockwave to overpower most opponents. It is from here that he would learn the ins and out of the underworld and the Grand Line itself and begin to forge an empire that could rival the Marine powers!

Magellan can do so much more than that in my opinion and comes across as a lazy character. Do you realize with poison gas and neurotoxins this man could potentially beat all of the admirals?

He sounds like an interesting character for a villain, but I'm not sure about a protagonist where growth and progression are the most fun part of the journey. But definitely, a character to work up too. If you want that to be your end goal.

Yeah I think I can take care of the villains for now, I'd rather have you guys focus on your main characters, get some progression going and all that!
 
I guess I can make another character. I'd prefer my character to fulfill Franky's role on a ship as the shipwright though if that's not a problem.
