On Hardness And Halving Damage (2nd ed)

Two quick questions:

1) How do affects that let me soak lethal damage with my bashing soak affect hardness?  Do I get to apply bashing hardness to lethal damage?

2) How do affects that halve damage (such as Unbreakable Bones of Stone or Body-Forging Travail) interact with the twilight anima?  Which occurs first when the anima activates automatically?  Does the exalt choose when to invoke the anima if she is not in the 11+ mote range?

Thanks in advance.

1. I'd say bashing soak, but that is only a gut feeling.

2. Depends on the effect. the twilight anima banner is on the end of step 8, "after soak damage modifying effects" so if you modify the pre soak damage everything is clear. if the effect you want to invoke modifies the after soak rolled damage, too... well then you have to find a ruling of your own i think.

I'd say that you'd apply your lethal soak and any lethal hardness, since the damage itself is still lethal, so what I'd do is just apply your natural bashing soak to the armor's lethal soak (and any lethal hardness) and that's what you got.

As for 2, I'd say the spell occurs first and anything left over the twilight can decide whether or not to use his anima ability.

and yes, the exalt gets to choose when to invoke the ability when not in 11+ range.  It's no different than any other anima ability, it's a reflexive ability that costs x motes and the exalt decides when to invoke it.  When in the 11+ range it's an auto. effect and as I said previously, I'd have it occur after any effects such as those from UBBoS or BFT or any similar spells/charms/abilities/etc.

1)  Soak and hardness are not mechanically linked in any way; while one can make a reasonable argument that an effect that allows lethal damage to be soaked with bashing soak should allow the application of bashing hardness, without explicit text in the charm or power providing the effect, the default interpretation should be that hardness does not transfer.

2) The two effects you mentioned affect damage dice, unrolled. The Twilight anima power affects health levels of damage, or rolled damage dice.

Therefore, the effects affecting damage dice occur before effects affecting damage levels.
