Name: Rasmus Bellua
Age: 20
Species: Human
Element: N/A (Not blessed by any spirit, but is follower of the Earth Spirit)
Ramus is the eldest child of five to a prominent family within Gavony, an isolated town located within the fabled dark woods, several miles from the nearest sanctuary civilization with true reliable defenses from the outside world. The village, once renowned for its fur-trade and leatherworking industry, has survived the effects of the changes in no small part due to the organization of those whose lives rely on the dark woods. The Town Hall is lead by a council featuring the heads of the only fifteen families that occupy Gavony. Keeping Gavony afloat are two important organized groups: The Nightwatch, a small militia tasked with defense of the village, and the Pathfinders, a group meant to escort coming caravans and merchants to and from the town while dodging the Ones who Watch.
Rasmus grew up in Gavony learning much from his father, who was Captain of the Nightwatch, about navigating the woods. Given that every able bodied adult had an important task to fill in Gavony, Rasmus was frequently given the task of looking after his four younger siblings. During his free time, Rasmus was given lessons by the Pathfinders so that when he came of age, he could join their cause of escorting people to and from Gavony. The Pathfinders would teach Rasmus to be a devout follower of the Earth spirit, believing the town to be protected by it. As such, the Pathfinders carry two objects with them at all time: a golden necklace with an Earth sigil and a carved wooden staff adorned with a medium sized peridot. This staff serves little purpose aside from being a walking stick or blunt weapon.
Somewhere in the midst of Rasmus’ Pathfinder training, at age 16, his mother was attacked by a ‘One Who Watches’ and fell incredibly ill. This single event sent Gavony into disarray. The Town Hall put the town on lockdown, believing Rasmus’ mother’s wounds would attract more hostility. Rasmus’ father abandoned his post on the Nightwatch to search the Dark Woods for a cure. Without his father there to offer pushback, much of the town council believed Rasmus’ mother should be put down. After three weeks without return of Rasmus’ father, his mother would succumb to her illness, leaving Rasmus and his sister, one year younger, to tend to the remaining three siblings and the Bellua home.
Two more years passed since the disappearance of Rasmus’ father, leading the young pathfinder to contemplate following in his stead and finding them. Despite the protests of his sister and the remaining Pathfinders, Rasmus would embark on a journey to find his father, confident he’d still be alive.
It’s been two years since Rasmus left Gavony, still with no lead on where his father could be, but perhaps his knowledge of Pathfinding could be of use to the heroes of prophecy...
Rasmus suffers greatly from what one may call, “older sibling syndrome”, always looking after those that accompany him with a close eye, scolding them even if he may not have the authority to. He seems to be anxious and high-strung, always formulating new plans and on the lookout for trouble. Rasmus *hates* laziness and will always point out when someone doesn’t seem to be carrying their weight, a trait common to those from Gavony.
Rasmus is a very quick thinker, as one would have to be when lacking great power. He has a strategic mind and is quick to learn the environment, his ways out, and potential traps. As a by-product of this, he has a complex where he believes he’s always right and does not taking criticism well and seldom commits to another’s ideas if he has his doubts.
As a family-oriented individual, Rasmus is fiercely loyal to those he considers close and will remain so until death, as seen with his commitment to finding his father. He however lacks much of the skills for making close friends and may come across as needlessly cold or blunt to strangers, perhaps even awkward.
-Rasmus has a knack for creating traps based on his environment, something that has kept him alive in the two years he’s spent away from Gavony.
-Rasmus pathfinding skills has made him closer to nature and given him the ability to befriend beasts, animals, and even bugs. He believes they understand one another, but that remains to be seen.
-Rasmus has very little true combat skills and relies heavily on traps, trickery, and outwitting his opponents. Otherwise, he can bonk you with his walking staff.
-Rasmus can sing very well, as he’d sing to his younger siblings, but only does so alone now. If confronted about it, he’d be incredibly embarrassed.
-Rasmus has an abundance of knowledge of what may or may not be edible within the wild and can usually tell if a plant is poisonous, an animal is venomous, and to what extent.
