edit to add: Sanctuaryforall1 , how do you feel about amity (the professor for ilvermorny) having some sort of positive relationship with gavy? i dont see them being super close, but i bet that because they both try to help those around them and like to brighten people's moods that even if gavy didn't take any of amity's classes that they were still friendly when seeing one another? amity probably thinks its really cool that gavy is able to change her appearance at will and i bet they bond over their love for animals. plus i bet they've run into each other outside of school from helping out at animal rescues - that's totally something amity would do!

i think they have the potential to be good friends!! i could see them maybe not getting along at first because of raph's more direct and upfront aggressiveness but then them eventually getting along. i like what you said about them being gymdudes together, maybe cosmo helps him learn how to self regulate during classes and whatnot? he probably tried to help raph see that winning isnt everything but idk if he'd listen to that

captaindanger Regarding our plot ideas on the other thread, when Cha-Cha sees that this arrangement is still to Raph's dissatisfaction, he may spot-call him to come to the front of the classroom and have a psychic duel with the top student (prolly Clara). Cha-Cha gets seriously dismayed when students are bored with his class because most schools don't even teach Legilimency, so it's a very niche, clandestine topic (and from his perspective a huge privilege to learn it). So he'll do what he can to alleviate Raph's boredom... even if it means setting him up for a public ass-kicking. But hey, Raph wished for something a little more hands on! Right?

As for Vasu, who knows his limits drinking but doesn't always adhere to them, I envision he and Raph getting up to some absolutely ridiculous shit while they're wasted, like one of them coming up with a great idea to shove a rotisserie chicken inside one of the ceiling tiles in the dorm. And then of course they don't remember it the next day and are both like, "What smells like chicken?" XDDD At which point they get hungry and go to the dining hall and eat a million pounds of food while fighting through massive hangovers and planning to do it all again that same night. What do you think?

Raph did haha. He hates classroom settings in general so the apparent boredom would not be personal. He takes an interest in most of his classes but he has to stay busy and he gets confused very fast. He will not take well to getting his butt kicked in class, and he will not like it at all if he ends up having a crush on Clara. It might backfire and ends with Raph wanting to repeatedly fight Cha-Cha until he wins

Raph and Vasu will get along after getting drunk together once if that happens, or they only get along when they are drunk. I have a soft spot for unhinged friends that do funny things together

clara is very cocky and confident because she knows she is a good dueler and magic user. she would get a lot of joy out of publicly humiliating him, especially if her favorite teacher was egging on the fight. she likely sees raphael as an easy target because of his hot-headed nature and the fact that he doesn't appear to be doing well in his classes. she may have been more scared if it was just a physical brawl and magic was not allowed to be used, however she would do just about anything to make raph trip up and lose in the most embarrassing way possible. at least until they become friends/if they became friends. if they were friends and this happened she'd likely try to convince raphael that there's no need to fight and may even ask cha-cha if there is some sort of other solution to their problem (such as enchanting raphael to be invisible or not able to make noise as he paces if she knows he is still paying attention and just needs to be up and moving, or that another student quizzes raph every so often outside of class to make sure that he isnt falling behind). but if raph was insistent on fighting clara she wouldn't put up that much of a front in pretending she didn't want to because it doesn't matter who it is, she will always enjoy winning under any circumstances

also i know cosmo wasn't mentioned in vasu pranking raphael with the drinking and whatnot, but cosmo would 100% sell vasu's lies once he was a little tipsy. he loves a good prank and seeing as at worst it mildly upsets raphael, he would join in. assuming that he doesn't know that not everyone can speak parselmouth, cosmo likely pretends to also have that ability to further sell vasu's lies. cosmo isn't a very good liar but if raphael was already a little gone, im guessing it wouldn't matter who was saying it

i think cosmo and raphael would get along great once they get past their differences. cosmo himself might try to help raph regulate enough to sit down in class and throw class questions at him while they work out together. they share a lot of similarities that would make them very compatible to be close comrades. however if raph ends up having a thing for clara i could see that growing to be very complicated. cosmo isn't very openly protective about his sister but would actually fear that she would use raph as a personal punching bag or manipulate him, rather than worry that raph might hurt her. he'd try to convince raphael that clara isn't looking to date while doing the competitions, lie about her, just about anything to turn his friend away from his sister. depending on if or when that develops and if or when she and raph become friends, she may very well try to use his feelings against him. she really wants to win the tournament and isn't above playing mind games to get what she wants. but if they really are friends she'll probably be confused as to how he ended up liking her that way and won't really know how to delicately handle that situation. naturally, either way raphael having feelings for clara will cause the twins to fight

I’m trying to think of some specific things that we can plot for them. Do you have any ideas?

No problem! I'm just now logging on and working on replies, and it's about 930PM where I'm at haha

I could see Clara and Raph clashing on that front. Raphael truly believes that he can win anything if he wants to, but his confidence is exaggerated. Unlike Clara, he doesn't have the smarts to back it up. His plans are never thought out in advance and he has gone his entire life doing whatever he wants or feels like he needs to do in the moment without any regard for the consequences. He grew up a thief and scrappy so he knows how to fight. But he didn't do a lot of that with magic. He grew up with a blend of Muggle and Wizarding influences so a lot of how he got by was without magic because he didn't understand it yet. As he got older he learned more about it and he can cast just about any spells that his peers can but nothing extraordinary. He hasn't tried to learn anything outside of the bare minimum for school, or if he has he's self taught which means the spells don't always cast for him. He learns in the face of danger or right when he is trying to do something in the moment. That is a large reason why he is arrogant. Raph has gotten by on luck and the fact that he has mostly learned by breaking the rules. Sure, he's smart, but he doesn't have the discipline to figure out his learning style. So Clara repeatedly beating him at everything will make him really mad at first. But then it will kindle into intrigue. That might be what ends up being the reason he likes her. Raph is humiliated at first when he loses in front of the entire group that travels together for the competition but he takes the L because he knows he asked for it. It still doesn't stop him from asking her to duel him every day

I forgot to bring this up earlier in regards to ChaCha: Raphael never aims to hurt anyone so if he knew that the professor thought he just didn't like the class he would try to clear the air. He can say pretty insensitive stuff out of ignorance but he knows that Cha-Cha is trying to do his job and that he is offering a rare or special lesson to the competitors that most don't get. Raph is just the worst student for anyone to have because he doesn't follow along complex ideas easily and his attention span is short. That isn't getting into his need to be on the move at all hours of the day. He wants to learn Legilimency so bad but it requires a lot of focus and thinking things through. Both of which he never does. He finds it hard to focus on anything for too long and he doesn't think things through. So to add on to what I said above for Clara except now for Cha-Cha: Raphael will be the student who has a ton of questions and looks forward to that class even if he is terrible at it. I think Raph will do well at understanding the concept of Legilimency or he will do alright at performing it, but not both. Should someone be willing to help Raph outside of class he may have a shot at fully grasping it but I don't think he will be one of the top students in that class. Which kills Raph but as his writer I want him to have to fight tooth and nail to improve as a wizard xD

Wolfiee, I went back to the CS page while I was writing all of this out and looked at all of your characters. I saw that Vladmir and Raphael are close in age. I can't tell if they would get along but he might influence Raph to get a tattoo. Raphael thinks he can sit through the pain but he ends up not being able to sit still at all. Which results in a smaller tattoo lol. Or peer pressure is how he gets one. Maybe Vasu and Vlad bet him to get one if he really thinks he can sit long enough to get a sleeve. And Raph doesn't like animals, but not because he is scared of them. He is really aggressive and has never been able to interact with an animal out of fear of hurting or scaring them. If Vladmir has his ferret out Raph will avoid touching it. But I can see Vladmir teaching him how to be gentle to pets. If you don't think they will get along I'm always game for Raph having frenemies or foes. He has a big personality and there is bound to be friction between him and others. Moving on to Angel, it might take her and Raph some time to become friends because she is shy and Raph doesn't pick up on a lot of cues right off the bat. He likes talking to her but can sense that she is shy and jumps to thinking she doesn't like him. Once that tampers off I see him trying to bring her out a lot and enjoying bringing a smile to her face. He likes that she can be adventurous because he is and will lovingly tease her about the things she likes and joke about how he can't sit still long enough to crochet or that no book can be as interesting as dueling is. He will not care that she is a werewolf and will only grow to be more aggravating when he begins asking what it is like and if it gives her any advantages in fighting or using her magic. He may be protective of her too and keep an eye on her so that he can swoop in and save her at parties so she doesn't have to talk to strangers if it makes her uncomfortable. I know you are still working on the professor so when she is done we can plot with her too

I forgot to add Cosmo. Raph likes dangerous and stuff that is forbidden only draws him in more so Cosmo telling him to back off will backfire. If his feelings for Clara are serious and not a situation where it is lust that is fleeting then Raph will start to be serious about such matters. He won't want to risk his friendship with both of them. He likes that Cosmo and him can work out together and talk about serious things. He likes that Clara constantly challenges him even if they don't get along. It will force him to think about what it is he likes about her and if it's worth going after. If she ends up liking someone else while he is trying to shake his feelings he doesn't do well with jealousy and may try to interfere while playing dumb. Overall he wants her to be happy but if the person was dangerous or not good he will put her safety over his want to stay friends. He would throw away their friendship if it meant keeping her safe. If he sees Cosmo approves of the other guy he would support it but hurt alone and quietly about it. Raph is fiercely protective over his friends and family and that would not stop just because Clara turned him down or because he never spoke up

i think something along the lines of clara being forced to tutor ralph was being talked about, so her being a reluctant teacher to raph would be interesting to see. i dont think she would do it on her own, as she probably sees raph as too much of a loose canon and maybe even a lost cause, but because she's pretty much been told she has to, she will still try her best. she might take to some unconventional teaching methods though. she isnt as much of a dudebro when it comes to staying fit as her brother is, but she is really good at self defense and whatnot. i could see her making raph promise not to break any of her bones and then fighting him while also teaching him whatever he is struggling with. or she treats him like a dog and tires him out and THEN starts to pick his mind when he's finally exhausted. or every time he gets a question wrong he has to do ten pushups. idk we can come up with something lol. she will see his want to learn and eventually take pity on him and try to really help, but it wont be until after she's forced to help him. she admires that he keeps approaching her to get his ass handed to him but she wouldn't ever say that

highkey i like the idea of cosmo and raph being close friends, or just good friends. if clara and raph become friends too there is probably a lot of tension in every direction. cosmo watching raph like her and not wanting him to get hurt, cosmo knowing raph likes clara and not wanting clara to abuse that in any way, clara being a little hurt that she has to 'share' raph with cosmo, and raph watching two of his friends constantly argue and bicker with one another. i think clara and raph becoming real friends is a slow burn. she may like that he is a challenging person in general but doesnt enjoy the fact that cosmo really encourages her to look at raph in a different light (while also threatening that if she hurts him at all that cosmo will hunt her down himself). if they become real friends and not just academic rivals they probably have friendly banter where they tease each other a lot - if you think that that's in character for raph! i cant see them seeing much the same way because of how different they are, but it offers a different perspective to both of them. ironically, clara probably needs a friend who is similar to her brother but not exactly cosmo to help mend things between the twins. i think raph's character has a lot of potential for bringing them together and helping mend the years long tension that has been building between them - maybe we do that instead of or alongside raph liking clara? i want other writers relevant to this specific idea to be able to weigh in because i think gavy would be a fantastic partner to raph if sanctuary wanted to do anything like that with her i also think angel and raph would be very cute together, but then again i like her with everyone lol

the guy that clara is going to end up with is likely someone cosmo will not approve of for a long while, so depending on how that goes it may bring raph and cosmo closer together but bring clara and raph further apart. i think cosmo would really appreciate that there is someone who sees the good in clara and would hate how she doesnt like raph back. cosmo is a really good friend and would likely try to help raph find someone better to focus on while also understanding that feelings don't just go away overnight. clara will probably feel like everyone is against her - with her brother, raph, and likely einar being on opposing sides she might pull back from them entirely and worry that they never really saw or understood her at all. regardless, im really looking forward to raph and cosmo being good friends and clara having someone who tests her patience and helps crack one or two of her walls

captaindanger omg i just read through all of raph's form and i'm glad you like lis!! i like the idea of raph and lis being friends, i think lis could see raph as a bit of a buffer in situations (even if he struggles with them too) and could help raph where he might struggle in the competition. they could have a like, golden retriever/black cat duo energy.

I'm sorry it took me a while to get back on, I usually try to check my account a few times a day but I got really busy yesterday. I like Einar's starting post. You can toss any of your other characters at mine if you want!

See Raph will have huge heart eyes for Clara if she goes from having no interest in helping him to quickly using his inability to stay still as a tool to help him learn. He is a simple man and will admire that she is not discouraged by his general rowdiness. He does not have any reservations about fighting a girl. He might because he is physically larger than her but besides that if she insisted he would not hold back. It will be why he respects her so much after she beats him. I like Raphael causing friction between Clara and Cosmo, I tend to like a touch of angst in my stories and characters. I foresee Cosmo and Raph become close with all of that going on and Raph considering Cosmo his best friend. He has not had anyone that he can be all aspects of himself with. That will be a meaningful relationship for him and I'm sure Cosmo will feel the same if at the end of it all that Raph is able to bring the siblings back together
