The wiki/fandom site is SO helpful!! I've been educating myself all about lycanthropy, quidditch, beauxbaton houses and classes using it! It's just that the list of wand woods and wand cores are so extensive that I got overwhelmed by all the different options and possible combinations and was hoping there would be like a quiz so the wand could choose him instead of me choosing the wand but if there isn't, I'll just suck it up and do the hard work!

I chose pine for Vasu because one of his hobbies is inventing new spells, and the Pottermore description for pine wands is that they enjoy being used creatively and adapt well to new magic. I chose phoenix feather for him partly because that was the core I got when I took the wand quiz lol, but also because he enjoys singing and theater, which I associated with songbirds. For Cha-Cha I chose a vampire fang core--which is hella rare--to represent the isolation he feels from society. His wand is black walnut as an allusion to his history with the Dark Arts.

That's so creative and thoughtful!! I've given Auguste an English oak wand with Curupira hair core (with help from Tobiornottobi's quiz and Sanctuary's recommendation!) but I may alter it if I feel like researching more deeply!

  Quidditch: As a student at Ilvermorny, Deianira used to play as a beater. She loves Quidditch and even though she doesn't play anymore, she watches every game, both at Ilvermorny school and at league level. Go Fitchburg Finches!

  Disliked Classes: As much as she enjoys flying, she never found the flying class particularly stimulating. She also didn't particularly like Divination, as she almost always got a negative reading even though her life was going well, and began to believe that it was all hocum. (Of course, not long after leaving school, she would find out what the bad omens were warning her about). Deianira took Apparition classes, but quickly decided it was her least favourite subject as it was the one class that she struggled with no matter how hard she studied. It didn't help that she was terrified of getting splinched after a boy in her class lost part of his face. In her case she only splinched some fingernails and a two, but it was still disgusting. Fortunately, she managed to scrape a pass in the exam, but being so used to excelling in all her other subjects, part of her regretted taking the course.
  
  Appearance: As a professor, Deianira finds it important to take good care of her appearance. Her long, wavy black hair is neatly maintained, and she almost always wears it down, usually just clipping or partially tying it back when she is battling a dangerous creature. Her posture is strong and she walks with confidence, looking to belong in every room she enters. Deia is taller than the average woman, her figure slim yet muscular, and she has large, capable hands and long, slender fingers with well-manicured nails. Her skin is a light bronze and beautifully clear. She tends to wear light make-up, such as nude lipstick, eyeliner and a touch of mascara.
  
  Wardrobe: Deianira has a preference for wearing fitted clothes in dark colours. Her wardrobe is mostly black, with some greys, reds, browns, and a few other colours mixed in. She has natural glamour and maintains a professional appearance in her day-to-day life, though ensures her outfits are practical for her line of work, as for her, practicality and professionalism are equally important. Her prosthetic leg puts her off wearing dresses unless the dress is long enough to hide it, or matches well with knee length boots.   Personality: Deianira has always been bright. As a girl, she would take her intelligence for granted, failing to appreciate the struggles her fellow classmates faced in classes. For her, studying was enjoyable and lessons were easy enough. If she could do it, why couldn't they? There were a few students in her class at school who were troubled by childhood traumas and poor mental health, which got in the way of their studies. They were often unruly and badly behaved and Deianira stayed away from them as best she could so as not to be pulled into their drama. Her friends, on the other hand, came from stable, middle-class backgrounds. They were highly intelligent and all equally devoted to their education. However, when Deianira's mother was drawn into scandal and subsequently killed, her friends abandoned her. All at once, she became an orphan, an amputee, and an in-patient at a psychiatric facility. Her physical and mental health were both at rock bottom and her friends could no longer relate to her struggles, so they left her to deal with them on her own. Deianira suddenly gained a compassion for her troubled classmates that she had always avoided at school. That newfound compassion became a core part of her personality in the wake of her trauma, which she still carries with her today.
  
  After that pivotal moment in her life, Deianira's personality began to evolve more rapidly than it ever had before. Her intellect and studious nature remain ingrained in her still, but from her trauma, her passion grew in the direction of helping and protecting others. The nine years she spent combatting the dark arts brought out a courageous side she had never really had to flex before. She has become quick to think on her feet, reliable in high-stakes situations and times of crisis. Her experiences in combat have raised her confidence but also given her a healthy respect for the dark arts, so she knows never to be arrogant and to always expect the unexpected. Deianira always held a curiosity for magic and knowledge, but now her curiosity extends to the real world, and so she will never shy away from a problem.
  
  Her compassion is what drove her to become a teacher, as she wants to share everything she has learned with students in hopes of preparing them for potential dangerous situations. Deianira understands that the nature of the subject she teaches can be distressing or triggering, so at the end of every lesson, she will light a candle to create a calming atmosphere for any student who wants to take a moment of peace.
  • Quidditch. Deia grew up in Fitchburg, home of the Fitchburg Finches – as a young girl she grew attached to that team, believing that they had a connection to her since her name is Finch. Even after understanding the coincidence, however, her adoration for them never waned – she went to every game she could, and as soon as she enrolled at Ilvermorny eagerly trained as a beater, and competed in many school games. Her balance and speed on a broomstick has decreased slightly since losing her leg and she doesn’t play much these days, but she still adores the game.

  • Inferi. In Deianira's experiences, the reanimated corpses are strongly associated with loss, grief, trauma and the boy who murdered her mother.
  • The return of Thelonious Alvary. There have been times while out on missions when she thought she caught a glimpse of him, and it triggers her PTSD in some way every time. She always fears she will one day hear his name or see his face again.

  Mental Disorders: PTSD, from witnessing her mother be controlled and manipulated into killing herself, having her leg eaten by an inferius of her mother, and also the mission when she sacrificed her boyfriend's life to save that of a child. Deianira's most prevalent symptoms these days are her sleep disturbances, which include nightmares, night terrors and sleep paralysis. Twenty years have now passed since her boyfriend's tragic death, and twenty three since her mother's, so it is less common now that something will trigger her PTSD, but it can still happen, and when it does it can cause panic attacks. Deia's automatic response to an oncoming panic attack is to get herself into a room where she can be alone, so that nobody will see her in that state - but they happen so rarely that she can't remember how long ago she last had one during the day. More often she will wake up from a vivid nightmare in a cold sweat and a state of shock - sometimes the fear and rush of adrenaline will make her cry, though they can devolve into panic attacks or even more rarely, trigger flashbacks.

  Backstory:
  Deianira had a very comfortable and happy childhood. Her father was a no-maj who passed away before Deianira was born, so she was raised by her mother alone, but despite her lack of father figure, she never lacked support. It was always the two of them, and they had the kind of close relationship that many daughters could only dream of having with their mothers. Deianira’s mother, Astoria Finch, was the Charms professor at Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where she was loved and respected by staff and students alike. Deianira did exceptionally well in school, but particularly enjoyed the practical subjects, such as charms, potions, care for magical creatures and defence against the dark arts. She also adored Quidditch growing up, and played for the school team as a beater.
  
  The year after Deianira graduated from Ilvermorny, Astoria Finch ended up teaching a student who would come to turn their lives upside down. Thelonious Alvary was an exceptionally bright student. Though not particularly popular, he was polite and always engaged in his classes, so Astoria enjoyed having him in her class. Over the course of the year, he began to demand more of her attention: staying overtime to ask questions and do extra credit work for her. What nobody knew was that Thelonious was completely and utterly infatuated with her. He grew obsessed with her, possessive of her, lashing out against students who misbehaved in her class. One day, Astoria asked him to stay behind so she could confront him on his behaviour. But as soon as the other students had left, Thelonious took his chance. Unbeknownst to her, the 16 year old boy held tremendous power, so much so that he was able to put her under the imperius curse. With her under his control, he made her perform sexual acts on him in the classroom when they were alone.
  
  They were caught when one of the other professors entered the room to find her, but unfortunately it was not him that got into trouble. Unaware that she had been under his spell at the time of the incident, Astoria was immediately dismissed from her position at Ilvermorny. With her reputation torn to shreds, the woman fell into a depression: a state that Deianira had never seen her in before. She did her best to keep her mother inside her house, to protect her from Thelonious’ reach. For about a week, nothing happened. Then one day, when Deianira was out running an errand in town, she walked right past her mother, who was arm in arm with Thelonious - and her mother didn’t even notice her. Deianira contacted her old Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, Raul Espinoza, to help, and they managed to track the pair down to an unused sanctuary for magical creatures in the forest surrounding the llvermorny school.
  
  Thelonious was sharp, and as soon as he recognised his Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, he performed the Sectumsempra curse on him before Espinoza could even raise his wand. Distracted by the horrors surrounding her, Deianira couldn’t think fast enough - she had achieved a high grade in Defence Against the Dark Arts, yet the fear of being unable to save her mother clouded her mind and she couldn’t think of how to break either of the curses. Instead, she found herself desperately trying to reason with the boy. However, he was not to be reasoned with. Before she could anticipate his next move, he cast Petrificus Totalus on her. Her arms clapped against her sides, her legs pulled in and her feet rooted to the ground. She was paralysed, as stiff as a corpse, only able to watch helplessly as her professor lay bleeding out beside her.
  
  With both of his opponents now out of his way, the teenager returned his attention to Deianira’s mother, who remained under his imperius curse…and compelled her to stab herself repeatedly. Deia was forced to watch her mother die a brutal, violent suicide, unable to stop her, unable to stop him, unable to even scream. Thelonious sat and watched the tears fall from Deia’s eyes like it was theatre. Once he had had enough, he stood up, uttered a phrase that Deianira had never heard before, and then approached her, put his lips to her ear and whispered: “Never stand in my way again.”
  
  Thelonious left Deianira in a state of paralysis, the only sound being her thick, shuddering breaths. She tried not to look at her mother or Espinoza and just stare straight ahead, but then, out of the corner of her eye, she noticed her mother’s head begin to twitch. She couldn’t believe it. Hope soared through her heart at the possibility that her mother had somehow survived, and watched eagerly to see if she would come to. Piece by piece, limb by limb, her mother began to stir, until eventually she was on her hands and knees, then on her two feet. Yet, something wasn’t right. Her face was void of colour, her eyes were unfocused, her mouth hung slightly agape. Blood still drained from the stab wounds on her body, and yet she didn’t appear in pain. It was only when she began to move towards her that Deia realised that she wasn’t her mother anymore: she had been turned into an inferius.
  
  Still paralysed, Deianira was powerless against the inferius’ approach. It reached out and touched her with a hand that, until then, had only ever touched her with warmth and love. Now, it felt hauntingly unfamiliar. Before Deia could understand what was happening, she toppled to the ground, her paralysed face pressed into a pool of blood. She could only lie there as she felt her right foot being devoured by the inferius. Eventually, the pain and shock won, and she passed out.
  
  The months that followed were brutal. Deianira was fortunate enough to have been discovered before she could be completely eaten alive. When she woke up in the hospital, her right leg had been amputated below the knee. She was given a prosthetic and spent the better part of a year learning to walk again. A few of those months were spent in a psychiatric ward while she battled through the worst of the PTSD. About a year later, she received a visit from a witch she didn't recognise. This witch, who went by the name of Esther Bukhari explained to her what had happened that night: she had been wandering the forest looking for a place to rest when she came upon the abandoned sanctuary. She had found the inferius eating her and drawn it outside, where she managed to kill it with fire. When she discovered that Deia was still alive, she brought her to the school’s sick bay and left her there.
  
  It turned out that this witch was part of an unofficial band of vigilantes who responded to claims of dark magic and dark creatures causing direct threats or even injuring or killing magic folk. They acted alone, helping to defend communities from the dark arts. This attracted Deianira, who, having gone through such unimaginable trauma, had developed a firm resolve to be better at defending herself and others against such horrors. Also, with the sickening knowledge that Thelonious was likely still out there, she wanted to be ready if she ever had to face him again. A high grade at school wasn’t enough - she wanted real world experience at defending against the dark arts. So, as soon as she was well enough, Deianira joined the group.
  
  As a 19 year old dark arts vigilante, Deianira had a lot to learn. The band was close-knit and protective of each other, but they were also unlawful. It was the first time in Deia’s life that she was going about breaking any kind of rules, let alone the law. It was her trauma, her grief, her anger at what Thelonious had done that made it possible for her morals to be swayed by the group. They did great things together, after all: they toured areas of North America that were under threat, fighting on others’ behalf, offering training to those eager to learn. They saved the lives of magical creatures, they disarmed criminals, broke curses, saved disillusioned youth from the pull of darkness, and even offered support to survivors of the dark arts. And all throughout these missions, Deianira was falling in love with one of her comrades: Simon Benowitz.
  
  Simon was a dashing young man with jet black hair, kind eyes, and stood at a height of six foot. He had a kind heart, a sharp wit and a forward-thinking mind, qualities which he always put to good use on their missions. He and Deianira realised their feelings for each other early on, and he was the one who always stuck up for her when other members of the group were unkind to her, or didn’t believe she would be of use due to her injury and lack of experience. He always believed in her and never left her behind.
  
  They remained together for two years, until one day something happened that would once again change the course of Deianira’s life. While back in Massachusetts, the group got an emergency call from a woman claiming her child had fallen into a deep pit of dormant monsters. They had been out walking in the woods when a thick, grey mist had rolled in, obscuring the ground ahead, and the child had fallen into a crevice that opened out into a deep cave. The child was wounded and petrified, screaming that there was a pile of dead bodies in the cave. The mother must have understood the significance of the mist, because she immediately called the group for help, and urged her child to stay silent until their arrival. The group had decided to split into factions to cover multiple states, so at that time there were only five of them on call in the area, including Deianira, Simon and Esther.
  
  The five of them came as quickly as they could to the site, having to use a magical map to track them down due to the thick fog. Finally, they arrived. The mother was naturally in pieces, worried about the safety of her child. The crevice was narrow, such that only Deianira and Simon were slim enough to fit through. The two were lowered down on a single rope, one by one, with the other three members and the mother holding the rope securely at the top. Almost as soon as they touched the ground, chaos broke out above them - a loud crack splintered across the sky above them and screams began to ring out, the mist glowing green and yellow as a barrage of spells were cast.
  
  The dead bodies around them, some of them old, some of them new, were disturbing enough - but when they began to reanimate one by one, Deianira knew who was behind it. Her PTSD kicked in and triggered a rush of adrenaline - she grabbed the child, clipped herself back onto the rope, and screamed at Simon to do the same. With the three of them now attached, they called up to be raised, but there was now only one person left with their hands on the rope. Deianira knew that they couldn’t bring the child into the seemingly deadly fight that was going on above their heads, but she also knew they had a better chance at surviving up there than if they stayed down in the cave of inferi. It took a long time to be pulled up, and the inferi were climbing on top of each other, grabbing at their feet. Suddenly, a huge weight yanked them down by several feet - Deianira tightened her grip on the child and called out to Simon, but the man didn’t answer. Deia had been so caught up in the horrors that too closely reflected her traumatic past that she hadn’t noticed her partner had been bitten in the cave, and now he had fainted from his injury. His entire weight dangled from the rope, tugging against the sheer strength of the one person above them, pulling them down, down, until the rotting hands of the inferi were scrabbling at his clothes. As soon as the inferi started pulling them back down, she knew there was no chance they would get out of the cave alive. In what would become Deianira’s most haunting memory, she had to withdraw her knife and cut Simon loose.
  
  By the time she and the child made it to the top, all but one had survived. It turned out that the last person with their hands on the rope was the child’s mother. Deianira’s entire team had been wiped out. She handed the child back to the mother, and the last thing she remembered seeing before they left the site was a distant silhouette of a man through the remaining mist, who promptly apparated before she could see his face.
  
  It took Deianira months of intensive therapy to make it through the darkness that followed that fateful day, some of which were spent in a psychiatric ward. With the help of the inheritance from her mother, Deia moved to New York City and got a job sorting mail in the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA). For a time she was just trying to stay alive, until eventually her strength returned to her and she began to see a future again. Her depression lifted and was replaced by a fierce determination to survive, and help others survive. Inspired by those around her, she decided to train to become an auror at MACUSA. With her personal knowledge of the dark arts, her hard-working nature and her stellar grades from school, Deianira’s journey to becoming an auror was smooth and seamless, and not long after attaining the position she became a well respected member of MACUSA.
  
  She worked for seven years in the business before deciding to make a lateral move into teaching. With her own trauma stemming from the young age of 18, Deianira realised that she could put the skills she had learned over her many years fighting the dark arts to train students to prepare themselves for any eventuality, in the hopes that they might not have to go through what she went through. So, braving the possibility that she may once again run into the dark figure of her haunted past, Deianira made the leap and moved back to Massachussetts, where she earned the position of Defence Against the Dark Arts professor at Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
  
  Deianira has now held that title at the school for 13 years running, and her high reputation won her the chance to support the Ilvermorny champion, Gavriel Sylvie, at the wizarding world’s first ever Octowizard Tournament.

  Not everybody can handle Stellan’s personality. To best get on with them, a person has to be thick-skinned, have patience and energy, and a good sense of humour. Some people find them over-stimulating or tiresome, as they are constantly on the lookout for ways to have fun, and that can sometimes come at the expense of those around them. They themselves are fairly thick-skinned - they enjoy banter and appreciate being pranked, but one thing that they’re quick to fight over is bigotry. Anyone who disrespects their gender identity or sexuality, as far as Stellan is concerned, deserves to vomit slugs. They also cannot stand bullies. While they themselves can be rude at times, it is only because they are direct, impatient and sassy - they are not actually a cruel person and would never want to play on somebody’s insecurities or make them hurt.   The household Stellan grew up in had a pretty open-minded attitude, and there wasn't really much of a thing as secrets. For instance, Stellan knew they were adopted from a young age, so young that they can't even remember the conversation. Their parents, Lorna Reid and Cate Alwyn, were a fun, eccentric couple: Lorna was an entomologist who worked at a museum and had a large personal collection of dead moths that were on display all around the house. Cate was an author who wrote fantasy childrens' novels. Stellan also had two brothers who were three years older than them and were adopted from a different family, twins Dylan and Marcus. The relationship between the three siblings was constantly up and down - they were somehow capable of turning anything into an argument, which could quickly spiral into nasty physical fights, yet also managed to make each other laugh like nobody else. They played constant pranks on each other - Stellan would give them "gobstoppers" that were actually bath bombs, and watch as they foamed at the mouth; Dylan and Marcus would sneak moth carcasses from their mother's collection into Stellan's sandwiches for them to bite into in the school cafeteria; turning the hot water off while one of them was in the shower, freezing each other's entire collection of underwear into a block of ice in the freezer, pouring ketchup in shoes - the list goes on. Such pranks gave their childhood a vibrance - even the fights, too.
  
  However, it was through these pranks that the family came to notice something different about Stellan. They would manage to pull off almost impossible feats that their brothers couldn't work out - exploding juice cartons, curtains that would reach out and tickle them when they stood nearby, doors that seemed to lock and unlock on their own - and though Stellan always managed to come up with some kind of reasonable explanation for how they did it, it was often far-fetched and the family became increasingly hard to convince. With their mother, Cate, having an interest in fantasy and magic and writing stories about such things, she was the first to open her mind to the idea that magic could be real. Stellan was showing similar abilities to Roald Dahl's Matilda, which was one of Cate's favourite books, and so she sat down with Stellan when they were ten years old, and encouraged them to test out their abilities. Once it was confirmed that Stellan could indeed do things that nobody else could, Cate informed Lorna, and the mothers became wholly protective of Stellan. It was the first time such a big secret was decidedly kept within the family, as they chose not to tell Dylan or Marcus. While the twins loved their younger sibling, they were young teenagers trying to make it through secondary school and Cate and Lorna decided there was too much of a risk that they might cause a dangerous rumour to spread around the school. That, and they were teenage boys - they had enough to focus on and deal with!
  
  It was only when Stellan got their letter from Hogwarts that they would come to understand what their magical abilities meant. Since they were now about to go off to a magical boarding school, they decided to tell their brothers the truth. Given the amount of unexplainable pranks that Stellan had played on them over the years, it didn't take much for them to believe it. They were supportive, perhaps because they were sad to see Stellan go, and as far as Stellan is aware, the family has kept their secret safe from other muggles' knowledge.
  
  Stellan had always had trouble paying attention and remaining focused at school - they were branded a chatterbox at the age of just four, was always the first to start talking and the last to stop giggling. They got into constant trouble for forgetting homework, losing books, and not finishing work on time. That changed when they got to Hogwarts - at least, at first. The excitement of being taught magic, of being what people called a witch, of attending a school where it was normal to have unusual abilities, where they could actually be taught to improve and expand them rather than try to hide them, it was enough to make them do their very best. Of course, that excitement could equally prove distracting, as they would continue to practice spells while the professor was trying to explain something, or they would use charms or potions to conduct pranks in the classroom or the dining hall. Their boundless energy was at first put to use on the sports field - with their daring behaviour, they found that they were great at flying, and so were tried out for the Quidditch team. They made the team as a keeper, but during their first game, they use the reducio spell on an opponent’s broom to make it harder for them to sit on it, and accidentally made it so small that the player fell from a great height and broke their leg. Stellan faced immediate disqualification and was banned from the game.
  
  Fortunately, they had another skill to offer. Their mother, Lorna, being such a lover of insects and particularly moths, had taught Stellan to use a film camera to help her capture photographs of the bugs. Now banished from the Quidditch pitch, Stellan instead decided to document the games by taking photographs from the sides. They learned potions that could develop the negatives into moving pictures, which fascinated them and quickly became a main hobby of theirs. They began submitting their photographs to the school newspaper, and got such praise for it that they were granted the opportunity to be the photographer for all future games.
  
  At the age of thirteen, Stellan started noticing girls. There was nobody in particular that they wanted to date, but it was as though turning thirteen had made them unable to talk to people without first checking them out. It was an automatic thing that they couldn’t seem to stop their eyes from doing. The boys were okay, but it was always the girls that made Stellan’s mind run wild. It wasn’t long after this revelation that Stellan worked out that they didn’t actually see themselves as one of the girls. They also couldn’t see themselves as a boy either, as much as they tended to get along with them. It was difficult to navigate such complex feelings, and, just as they had back when they were living with their muggle family, Stellan felt once again like they were different from everybody else. It took two years of confusion, anxiety, self-consciousness, body image issues and a lot of intimate conversations with their mothers to come to the conclusion that they were, in fact, neither a girl nor a boy. They were genderfluid. They were on a non-binary spectrum and it didn’t matter if they felt different from one day to the next - all they had to do was accept whoever they were that day. So, Stellan changed their name from Stella to Stellan and decided to start using gender neutral pronouns. They decided to be proud, and to not let anyone else try to decide who they were, or fit them into a category that they didn’t fit into. The relief of finally being able to put a name to the way they felt renewed their confidence, and though they still experience gender dysphoria, they can usually accept that it is okay to be themselves.
  
  Despite their disruptive behaviour and lack of attention, Stellan was a bright student at Hogwarts. Their grades were average, and their professors were always telling them that they could do better if they just focused. They never seemed to understand how impossible it was for Stellan to do that. Their grades were never so troubling to put them too out of favour, but the behavioural issues were a problem. However, because of their stellar reputation as the school photographer, the headmaster called them to their office and told them that they were being considered to act as a secondary for the Octowizard Tournament. All they had to do was to keep a clean record from then until the tournament commenced, including a perfect attendance record, no late marks, homework completed and handed in on time, no sanctions for poor behaviour in the classroom, and no pranks anywhere in the school. For Stellan, it was an almost impossible challenge…but they did it. And that was how Stellan ended up supporting their champion, Theo West, at the Octowizard Tournament of 2024.
