He hates muggle studies of any kind because he lived as a muggle for most of his life and still feels like one despite his newfound magical powers, so feels somewhat targeted when they are being discussed, judged and analysed - also because he knows most of the answers, which makes him feel alienated from the more established witches and wizards. He wants to become good at Defence Against the Dark Arts so he will try hard at it, but can get upset by the way werewolves are discussed, as it always leaves him feeling like a freak of nature who doesn't deserve love - or even to live.
  
  
  Appearance: Auguste is a young caucasian man standing at a height of six foot one. He has a lean but rather muscular build - a result of growing up on a farm as well as taking an interest in sports - and when he stands, he holds himself with good posture. He does have a habit of sitting in odd positions, though, often slouching or sitting hunched in a chair. His hair is dark brown and curly, and he finds that since becoming a werewolf, his hair and facial hair grow faster and thicker, requiring more maintenance. He never used to grow much facial hair before, but now he can often be seen with a beard. He was blessed with clear, smooth skin, and captivating blue eyes. Unfortunately, when his father attacked him and turned him into a werewolf, Auguste suffered many injuries, and was left with scars on his torso, shoulders and arms, as well as one on his head above his left ear, which left him with the traumatic brain injury. His wounds were sealed with a mixture of powdered silver and dittany, but the scars still remain, and for this reason he tends to wear long sleeves to avoid questions, and is self-conscious of changing in front of people. Around the full moon his appearance tends to grow somewhat dull: his skin gains an unhealthy pallor, his eyes lose their brilliance and appear sunken and bloodshot, and his lips drain of colour, typically leaving him looking as sickly as he feels.
  
  Wardrobe: Auguste’s wardrobe is a capsule of earthy colours: blues, browns, dark greys, greens and off-whites. He loves soft fabrics and loose-fitted clothing as opposed to anything stiff or tight. He didn't grow up with much money or many shops around him, so he tends to be loyal to his material items, only replacing clothes and shoes when they wear out or become too small for him. Auguste is a big fan of chunky knit sweaters and cardigans. He also loves oversized shirts and anything denim - shirts, jeans and jackets. His favourite coat is a denim shearling jacket, and his favourite item of footwear is a pair of his father’s old boots he has worn almost every day since he stopped growing. In terms of accessories, in cold weather he wears a scarf his mum knitted for him and a woolly hat, and he wears a collection of bracelets every day that he has been gifted over the years, and a watch that has been passed down the family on his mother’s side. It doesn’t work, but he loves it anyway. When his mother said goodbye to him as he left for his first day at Beauxbatons, she gifted him a locket that had inside a picture of her that he had never seen before. She looked young, about the age she was when she was pregnant with him. The picture moved, like a piece of film, and he realised that the reason he had never seen it before must have been because his father had banished magic within the household. Auguste holds this piece of jewellery particularly dear to him, as it holds his mother’s love, and her comforting smile. Of course, he removes all of these accessories before his monthly transformation so as not to lose or damage them.

  Scent: Auguste’s natural scent is one of pine trees, clay and fresh morning dew. However, around the full moon his scent changes and becomes stronger, and he finds he has to shower multiple times a day to keep the odour to a minimum. He can only describe it as musty, like a damp basement, and…strangely like popcorn.

  Physical Disabilities: Auguste suffers from lycanthropy, a magical disease that plagues him every month. In the days leading up to the full moon and in the days following, his immune system becomes compromised and he suffers from ill health and mood swings. Turning into a werewolf is incredibly painful and taxing on his body and afterwards he will feel run down and fatigued. During the initial attack that turned him, he also suffered a traumatic brain injury which left him with temporal lobe epilepsy. It mainly gives him focal seizures triggered by stress, during which he suffers unsettling auras including auditory hallucinations, becomes unable to speak or move and experiences tremors, headaches, confusion, anxiety, sensory processing issues and nausea, sometimes even vomiting. His seizures tend to spike in the days leading up to a full moon. Additionally, he has mild hyperopia, meaning he is long-sighted and sometimes finds it easier to see things up close by wearing glasses. He often wears glasses to read, write, draw and sculpt.

  As most people who have been through a life-changing event know, there is a before and an after.
  
  As an only child growing up in a remote region of France with parents who were busy running a potato farm, Auguste learned to keep his own company well. He is a daydreamer, sensitive, romantic and creative, and loves to work with his hands, sculpting and drawing. He would spend a lot of time outside, and his bond with nature taught him to value living things, cultivated a passion for plant life and earned him a healthy relationship with himself in solitude.
  
  That is not to say that Auguste was a lonely child, nor antisocial - the school in his commune was very small and had few students, and they were very tight-knit. He had friends in almost all of them whom he loved to play with, especially playing football together or going off gallivanting in the countryside that they all called home. Because of his parents' line of work and the remoteness of his hometown, Auguste has always been a homebody. He likes to be part of a community, he likes to be known, to know he is safe and surrounded by familiar faces.
  
  When Auguste's life turned upside down at the age of just 14, it had irreversible effects on him, including his personality. In the space of one night, he had gone from a simple, stable life in a world he understood, to a world of magic, of suffering, of instability and uncertainty. The illusion he had been living under his whole life shattered - his parents' loving relationship was more or less a lie, all three of them were in fact magical, he now suffered a magical disease that put everyone he knew at risk of death, severe injury or the same fate he faced, he was suddenly having to deal with seizures, and on top of all of that, had to leave the only home and community he had ever known to start a brand new life in a huge boarding school of witchcraft and wizardry where he new nobody and was notably behind all his peers. These events caused Auguste to lose a great deal of confidence and trust in himself, as the once happy, social, carefree boy became secretive, aloof and ridden with anxiety.
  
  It has now been two years since Auguste first enrolled at Beauxbatons and he has adjusted to his new life to a degree. His determined, curious and hard-working nature has helped him to catch up on his studies and he has gained new passions while still maintaining his creative hobbies and interests that he developed during his years living as a muggle.
  
  By now, he has made some good friends, though as much as he misses having a close-knit community around him, he still struggles to let people get too close to him for fear of hurting them, and lies to protect himself from being found out as a werewolf, as he has a strong idea from his father's experience of how stigmatised lycanthropy is in magical society. The distance he tries to put between himself and others doesn't stop him from caring about the friends he does make, however. He is a naturally helpful person, a trait that came from helping his parents out on the farm, and his sensitive nature means that he cares deeply and will stop at nothing to help a friend in need. He has always been sensitive even as a child, and it is something that hasn't changed over the years. While this makes him empathetic and a good listener, it also has its downsides - Auguste is rather defenseless against criticism and can get easily offended about things that he feels particularly insecure about, such as his non-magical background, his lycanthropy and his epilepsy. Though he hates to cry in front of people, he can sometimes struggle to keep his emotions in check. This is partly due to the flux of hormones surrounding the full moon, and partly from the amount of pressure he puts on himself to be brave. He knows his life will never be as simple or as peaceful as it once was. Sometimes this new life is exhilarating, awe-inspiring, wonderful...and other times it is frightening, and fills him with dread and despair. What Auguste wants most is to be accepted, loved and understood, so he can finally break free from the cage he has put himself in.

Given what happened between his own parents, he feels that, with his disease, he is unlikely to ever make a relationship work.

  Auguste had an extremely rural upbringing, growing up on a farm in a small commune named Urepel in the Pyrenees Atlantique region in the south west of France - only a 10 minute drive from the Spanish border. His family would sometimes holiday in Northern Spain, or to the beach which was only an hour's drive away from home. However, they never went away for long, and often not all together, as his parents were potato farmers and had a lot of land to take care of. There was little to do in Urepel, so Auguste spent much of his free time outdoors, through which he developed a healthy interest in nature from an early age. He attended a very small school, with only 12 pupils in his class, but combining with other year groups was enough to form a small amateur football team, which he enjoyed playing in immensely.
  
  Backstory:
  Auguste Lovell's story does not start at his birth. If it did, his life would never have changed as much as it did.
  
  To really understand how he got to where he is now, the story must start with his parents. Anne-Sylvie and Henri Lovell were a young, happily-married couple living in their home city of Paris. The pair were well-liked and respected in magical society - she was a trainee healer, a highly intelligent young woman with a promising career ahead of her; he was a well-connected herbologist, making equally fast progress in his career.
  
  One night, Henri left his pregnant wife at home while he ventured out on a field trip with some of his fellow researchers, in search of a rare magical flower that only became visible after dark. Before they could find the flower they were searching for, they stumbled across something far more rare - something dangerous, something deadly: a werewolf. The moment the beast spotted them, they had no chance - it was only because it caught one of them that the rest were able to get away. Henri Lovell was the victim of a horrific werewolf attack, which infected him with lycanthropy.
  
  His colleagues fled the scene to get help for him, but unfortunately in explaining the situation to the authorities, Henri's curse became public knowledge. People quickly became afraid of him. He lost his friends, he lost his job and all his prospects, and his place in the community dwindled into the shadows as he was cast out, labelled a threat to society. Outraged, Henri decided he had no choice but to abandon magic forever: if he was no longer welcome in magical society, then he must turn instead to a muggle life. He forced his wife to give up her career and the two moved to the opposite side of the country, the furthest from Paris they could go. They bought a small plot of land in a remote Pyrenees commune called Urepel, where they farmed potatoes to make their living. That winter, the winter of 2008, Auguste was born.
  
  With both Anne-Sylvie and Henri unable to transfer their respective career paths into the muggle world due to conflicting qualifications, the young family had to get used to a more modest income. They never had much money when Auguste was growing up, but he didn't mind. The community around them was loving, close-knit, and his environment provided him a happy enough childhood.
  
  For Auguste's whole life, it was an accepted fact that once a month, his father had to visit his own step-father, Silas Bacrot, who had been locked up in Azkaban since before Auguste was born. It was for this reason that Auguste had an awareness of witches and wizards existing in the world, but he was taught to keep it a secret so as not to put the magical community in danger. The rule was that Henri was always to go alone - neither Anne-Sylvie nor Auguste could go with him, so as to protect them from exposure to dangerous criminals and the horrors that lay between the prison walls.
  
  An obedient and content child such as Auguste never thought to question it, until he grew into his teenage years and a rebellious curiosity got the better of him. With Silas being the only known magical family member, Auguste, at the foolish age of 14, ventured away from home without informing his parents, and managed to make it all the way to Azkaban - the furthest from home he had ever been. When he got there, he found Silas Bacrot - but to Auguste's confusion, the man had not had a visitor in years, let alone heard of the Lovell family.
  
  He returned home and faced the punishment of putting his parents through hell while he had been effectively missing. Now that he knew his father had been lying about his monthly visits, Auguste decided the only way to find out the truth would be by following him the next time he left. So, that is exactly what he did.
  
  They ended up in the beautiful ancient forest of Bosc d'Haira. At first, Auguste was jealous that his father was escaping to the woods without him - he adored exploring woodland, and Bosc d'Haira was especially beautiful - but as he followed him deeper into the woods, as quietly and distantly as he could, he began to grow afraid. It got darker and colder, and yet his father kept on going.
  
  Eventually, the horrors began to unfold. His father let out a wild, agonised scream and collapsed onto his hands and knees, as if pushed down by an invisible force. Still not knowing what was wrong, Auguste ran to him, terrified that he was about to witness his father die - but what he witnessed was arguably worse.
  
  Auguste didn't have time to flee from the towering, grotesque, wolf-like creature before it spotted him. By then, it was too late. It pounced on him, mauled him, scratched him and bit him, and it wasn't long until Auguste was unconscious and left fighting for his life.
  
  When he next awoke, he found himself in a completely unfamiliar environment, some kind of oversized hut. Inside with him was a crow, and the largest man he had EVER seen. The man turned out to be a half-giant who resided in the enchanted side of the woods and acted as a healer to the creatures who lived in the woods alongside him. He had found Auguste's injured body after an alarmed crow came to his hut and led him to the scene. The half-giant took Auguste in and sealed his wounds with a mixture of powdered silver and dittany. What he couldn't cure him of, however, was the disease he had contracted from being attacked by a werewolf. He told him that a muggle would never have survived such severe injuries, and after some inspection, determined that he must have magic in his blood. The young teenager was suffering from some amnesia and couldn't remember where home was, so he stayed with the half-giant for a couple of days until he was able to make it back safely.
  
  As soon as Auguste stepped through the door, everything blew up. He explained where he had been, what had happened to him and all the unbelieveable things he had discovered. His mother confessed that they were not in fact muggles but magic. His father was outraged that he had snuck off to Azkaban without warning, that he had so recklessly followed him into the woods and made him almost kill his own son, and that he had uncovered the family secrets with his foolish behaviour. In his outburst he became violent against Anne-Sylvie for confirming the truth.
  
  His mother enrolled him at the Beauxbatons boarding school of witchcraft and wizardry with some haste, mostly to get him away from his father. She managed to find out that the new professor of Care of Magical Creatures was the young Angelique Chimere, the daughter of her next door neighbour back when they had lived in Paris before August was born. She hadn't seen Angelique since she was about five years old, but she remembered hearing that Angelique's best friend Petia had been killed by a werewolf. Hoping that the young professor might remember her, she explained Auguste's condition and asked her to look out for him and help make sure his secret is kept safe, accommodating his need to safely escape civilisation once a month so that he does not cause harm, get found out, lose his place at the school or become ostracised the way her husband had been.
  
  Once he started at the school, Auguste was no longer around to see what happened to his parents, but he came to understand that his father was beating his mother. Being found out and almost killing his son seemed to have broken something deep within him, and his distress came out in the form of aggression and violence. Fortunately, after some time, Anne-Sylvie managed to get a divorce and move away from the farm to start a new life without Henri.
  
  Despite the immense culture shock of moving from a simple muggle life in a tiny community of familiar faces, into a huge, bustling school of magic that challenged everything he had ever known and where he knew nobody, Auguste has managed to settle in fairly well since starting two years ago. The crow that had saved his life that night in Bosc d'Haira ended up following him on his journey and had stuck by him ever since. The two developed a close, trusting bond, and Auguste came to name him Garan, a French name meaning 'protector'. Having Garan around always makes him feel safer, and the friends he has made since starting at the school do help him to not feel so alienated in a world he still often finds hard to believe is real - even if he does have to keep them at arm's length. However, it is for Angelique's support and courage that Auguste has managed to make it as long as he has.

Beauxbaton champion Auguste Lovell is up!

It's a work in progress still - I am still ironing out some creases in his backstory, though I have most of it down. I feel like I know his personality but have yet to write it out in full. No no I completely understand lol! As the humble les-bean I am I COMPLETELY understand hahaha! Poor boy has no defenses and I just don’t think Gavy would have any either lol! Gavy has no defenses against any of these profs (except Einar) lol!
