October Roleplay of the Month Nominations

Hello everyone!


Welcome to the user nominations thread for the October Roleplay of the Month! A quick explanation for new users - the Roleplay of the Month (or RotM for short) is a newsletter feature that showcases a recently-created roleplay that shows great potential and quality. Users are encouraged to suggest roleplays that they are in or have seen to be considered for the next RotM.


How does this work?

Every month, the newsletter volunteers prowl the site for remarkable roleplays that deserve a bit more attention or accolade. But, there's only so many of us, and we can't possibly keep up with the amazing new content that you guys pump out! So this is where you come in.


Posting your nominations in this thread vastly increases the number of threads that will be seen and considered for RotM, which is a good thing for everyone!


Requirements

Roleplays that will considered for RotM are group roleplays that are

• Open; is currently accepting new players
  
• Active; has at least one new in-character post a week
  
• In progress; have at least ten in-character posts
  
• New; between one and three months old
  

These restrictions are to make sure that RotM goes to a thread that is fairly new but is somewhat established. In addition, a roleplay thread created by a member of the Staff (bold username) cannot be nominated. However, roleplays created by Fellows are fair game.


Nominations

Your nomination must include

• The title of the roleplay
  
• A link to the primary in-character tab
  
• A couple sentences on why you think this thread should be considered for Roleplay of the Month.
  

Most importantly, users can’t nominate their own threads – that’s right. You can nominate your friend’s thread, the group that you’re in right now that’s totally awesome – but it can’t be your own thread.


Nominations will be open for two weeks, from the 6th to the 19th of September.


What's deserving of a nomination?


Maybe the game master is really good at giving people exciting plots to work through. Maybe there’s a lot of awesome worldbuilding, or everyone’s posts are detailed and fun to read. The thread might have been going on forever and a half, or the premise of the story is particularly unique and original. These are all things that the Fellows look at and consider when choosing a Roleplay of the Month.


Don't worry about whether or not a roleplay is "good enough" to be nominated. Think about why you enjoy that roleplay, why you think it's special, and convey that in your post.


Frequently asked questions

Didn't you just close the last RP of the Month thread?


Eh. I was late last month.


Wait, how old does the thread have to be?


No older than three months, and no newer than one month. For October, we're looking to feature a roleplay that was creating during July or August.


Are Hosted Projects eligible for nominations?


Yep! They fit all the criteria about being an open group roleplay, so they can be nominated.


Can I nominate multiple threads?


Sure! If you've got two or three other threads that you would like to see given a shot, you can go ahead and nominate them as well.


Can a thread be nominated multiple times?


Yes. However, multiple nominations does not affect the likelihood of the us choosing that thread for Roleplay of the Month.


So the RotM is going to be chosen from this thread?


Not necessarily. We might choose a roleplay that none of the regular userbase happened to nominate. We take your nominations into account, but ultimately, the choice goes to those working on the newsletter.


I think there's a better way to do this.

I GET FIRST NOMINATION OH MY GOD OH MY GOD Okay, okay, calm yourself, you fool.

1. Neow, the gamemaster, is utterly devoted to this role-play (and has for three years, back in the old site. But it's only been on this site for two months. LOOPHOLES! ) and updates weekly (usually).


2. Seriously, though. The updates take, like, 8 hours because there are ten-ish characters, and he just slugs through them like a champ. What a guy.


3. Anyway, to the players: All of them are great people. They don't be jerks, we have utterly fantastic character development, and everyone works off of each other to make a great product.


4. We have a great antagonist (a power-hungry god trying to take control of the GM's player, who is on her way to gaining immense amounts of power. He's also ironically the reason we're here to oppose him, as he brought us into this world in the first place. Oh, and did I mention he's a dragon? Dragons are cool.)


5. We have great NPCs. Diana, Xenoth's (antagonist) relative, Delphi, the all-work-and-no-play commander of an army, and the Keeper, a super-powerful undead creature on our side, for some reason.


6. There's a cool red-color font-size-7 title I used.


EDIT: Reason number seven? Neow, our awesome gamemaster, drew all of our characters and makes a title for the roleplay. SERIOUSLY CLICK ON THE LINK. And in fact my profile picture is his depiction of my character. Just a note.

The game is a modified Pathfinder game, using the mechanics of the system but with a different world history. The Storyteller, @Dannigan, is a personal friend of mine from many years back, and is a top rate storyteller in all regards. As a game, Sharseya has been more than just a hack-and-slash killer game, taking time out to help develop the characters in depth with one another along with the various NPCs that we interact with. Started back in July of 2014, the game has shown some real staying power and has not fizzled out like many games I've seen. It is an excellent example of what a good game should look like, and if Dannigan ever starts up another game here, I will be first in line to sign up in it. Please check it out and hopefully, it makes the cut as Roleplay of the Month.

Actually, now that I think about it, because this was written before we changed how many posts were on a page.... Its really only half a page of in character posts now.

Here it is!


Anywho, the GM @Neow46 is an altogether outstanding guy! He updates frequently and eh doesn't afraid of anything.


But seriously, including all the aforementioned reasons from Snaky, I would include Among Gods because you are allowed to be ANY OC SO LONG AS YOU CREATED IT!


This inspired a few of us, including myself to make RPs about our characters or some people would use a character that came from a different RP they did. All characters were brought into this planet by a God so your backstory and past RPs are literally canon and tie into Among Gods.


It really reminds me of the game Dark Souls because everyone has such unique backstories that aren't shoved down any of our throats but are definitely there if you look at the dialogue of the RP. And best of all, we are all connected. We aren't show boating mary sues trying to be the most relevant character at all times and I think we owe a lot of that to Neow's experience. He works so hard on Among Gods and it definitely pays off.

I am nominating this dice RP because from what I've seen, this RP is incredibly unique. It has a D&D feel put into an RP.


Although that makes it sound complicated, the creator of the RP (@SachiGrl ) has actually put in a lot of effort to make sure it's as simplistic as possible,


so it can be easily understood. She has major emphasis on story and character development (albeit in a very unique and interesting way, as a large portion


of the world is created by the individual characters), and added mechanics are a treat that really help the RP go into new territory. She loves to make sure


that it can be aesthetic whenever possible, as well as providing visual aids for things that aren't left to the imagination. Although I will say, there is plenty to


imagine and enjoy. So much so that she almost has no limit to character creation, she's extremely flexible. The only real thing she likes to promote is balance,


since there is a battle aspect to the dice RP, she doesn't want anyone to be too over powered. She works with each RPer at an individual level to make sure


their character is just as they want it, without being able to murder anything they fight in one hit!


She asked me to be a moderator for it and I agreed, and I'm glad I did. Seeing how much she cares to help her RPers as well as push her RP as far as it


can go has been a great experience. Although it is relatively new, it still has felt like a journey to get it where it is now. I think it would be great if it were featured,


that way it is exposed to more people, and others can enjoy this fun and unique dice RP.

I also want to nominate Among Gods, is this cheating? I feel like the three of us here is cheating.


Anyway, I am one of the few people remaining who have been with this rp from the beginning. We are new to RP Nation and started with a new chapter that has brought a whole new wave of character development and exciting story. Neow's commitment to AG is always astounding. Despite the trials and tribulations that we all face irl Neow does his best to give us lengthy and compelling updates, pushing our characters forward in this world of his own design. The world has a unique lore that, for us players, we are still learning about, but a lot of thought and time has clearly been put in to make it. I have only been part of a few rps over the years, most of them never being hugely successful. But AG and all of the players have always been friendly and committed to being their best whenever posting, in terms of attitude as well as writing. It's a constantly evolving rp with a diverse set of characters and players in a rich lore filled world fighting towards their goal of becoming among gods.
