Joined in Suffering
Please remember that all player characters should have some sort of relationship to the other player characters in this roleplay. It can even be an adversarial one, but just keep in mind that the player party is working together towards the common goals addressed below.

Chiefly among every character's priorities is that of survival. Whole crop fields fester in rot, swathes of wild game decay in morbid piles, and wells have become polluted with toxic death. Hunters and deranged Moonfallen lurk every dark corner of Yhark-Disan, searching for new prey. Death is the commonplace in this wretched world. Even so, glimmers of hope still shine in the destitution. There are rumors of mills that still produce fresh bread. There are tales of hallowed places where the moon yet shines. There are whispers of a miraculous cure for the Moonfallen curse. The characters of the player party grasp for these tiny hopes in this story.

For now, all they have is each other.

Among the possible character backgrounds may include shopkeepers, farmhands, guardsmen, bartenders, nobles, merchants, clerics -- the list is arbitrary. Fate's deliverance played no favorites, dealing pain and suffering to every beating heart. What matters is that every character will bring problems and solutions to the party in equality. While a noble may have access to education and silver, she may lack in martial skill. While a farmhand may have strength to match his plough horse, he may not know the slightest about survival in the outlands. Characters might not have known each other before the Sorrows, but they now share at least one thing in common: they now rely upon each other to survive.

hopefully this is sufficiently pretentious. Should make more sense when CerpinTaxt CerpinTaxt gets his laddy boy Cyril up.

Height: 6 ft 0 when 'normal'. When they shift to adopt an appearance corrupted by the Moonfallen curse, they stand at 7 ft 2 inches or taller depending on the severity of the shift.

Build: When normal, Myah is caught between looking like a beast of a woman and an emaciated shadow of her former self. Though she might not remember her previous self clearly, it is obvious from her physique that she must have been involved in heavy manual labor or something similar; that or the Moonfallen curse has warped her more deeply than even she realises.

Attire: Though corpses may be plentiful after the Sorrows, Myah is not the sort to filch luxurious threads off of the deceased nobility. Admittedly, this is largely due to her distaste for impractical clothing; she dresses in a manner that renders her looking like an androgynous mountain, glad in thick leather, a billowing undershirt, and with more straps, belts, and pockets than she could possibly fill— the point is, they're there if she needs them. She has only one set of clothing, and doesn't seem to mind the bugs that come with the absence of changing. Her clothing is broken and torn in several areas, and then strapped together with ties. This is to allow her to shift back and forth, though even with these allowances, it still renders her in beaten and torn clothing at the best of times.

Shifted: Cursed with the strain of the Moonfallen change known commonly as 'unshackled', Myah is a kind of 'sub-mutation' of this alteration: she is not always in a state of being physically altered by the moonfallen shift. Instead, she has a 'normal' state, and then can be in a state which she refers to as 'shifted', though this state is not stationary nor reliable. It manifests in the growth and expansion of her body, which becomes taller, stronger, and bowed. She develops longer, larger teeth, and acquires a more acute sense of smell and hearing. However, with this state, she also loses the intelligence of her human consciousness, and becomes a slave to instinct. For reference, think Professor Lupin as a werewolf, minus the fur and wolf part.

Occupation: Her life is guided by her - seemingly unalterable - dedication to follow Cyril about and serve as an unofficial protector to him. She does not appear to receive any material compensation for this.

Skills: Physical strength when shifted; Survival know-how, including plant identification, shelter construction, empirical first aid knowledge, and a knack for navigation; she is trained in the ways of sword-fighting, though she tends to neglect this skill nowadays as her Moonfallen qualities make it either obsolete or merely get in the way.

Weaknesses: Lack of control when shifted; Ignorance of the world at large, history, and customs; Her 'amnesia' manifests in that she only remembers spots of her pasts, but also that she struggles sometimes to remember the land she finds herself in now, individuals she's known or gets to know, or basic propriety. Though she does her best to keep her tether on reality, which for now is holding, the corners are beginning to fade; No real skill long-range; Vulnerability to silver.

Moonfallen: Myah is what is known as 'unshackled', though her particular strain manifests on an off-and-on-again basis. Typically, her body will shift against her will when she experiences intense emotions or a raised heart rate into an enormous, bestial kind of warped humanoid form. Occasionally, it will occur without any discernible prompting. The extent to which this shift warps her physical form (and likewise, her mind) differs each time in its extremity, sometimes being a mere base exaggeration of her human form, at other times it becomes unrecognizable as a human being. She is completely unable to control it. On occasion, it also fails to manifest when she is experiencing heightened stress/emotion. It is not a curse she desires or enjoys.

Personality: Most folk who encounter Myah for the first time nowadays think she is stupid or 'slow'. She is quiet, short of speech, and is as likely to answer a question with a stare as with a verbal answer. Be it due to her innate personality or the influence of the Sorrows, she appears to experience a disconnect with reality, or to experience it through a lens; in short, she can be more than a wee bit spacey even at the most serious of times. She keeps to herself and keeps her trap shut because, as she says, she 'has nothing worthwhile to say'. Though this may make her seem overly-serious, she is a surprisingly warm character beneath the reserved introspection. With those she cares about, especially Cyril, she is practically affectionate, and deeply loyal. If she is scared of what the Moonfallen curse is doing to her mind, she does not show it.

Her greatest perceivable struggles comes from her Moonfallen status, as whatever morals or beliefs she may hold on the regular do not always translate and manifest into her shifted appearance. The more dramatic the shift, the less of her 'human' persona she retains.

On the
Inside

[/div][/div][/div][div class="spoke bbcodeSpoke"][div class=contentContainer]
[div class="content bbcodeContent"][div class=scroll]

Once upon a time, Myah remembered her past. Once upon a time, she even remembered her real name.

During the Second Sorrow's descent, something happened to Myah, and truth be told, she is not sure what. The bits and pieces she recalls are really just of the panic, the chaos that ensued as starvation gripped the land, and the violence that spilled out from humanity as the worst of their natures was exposed. She knows she had people she wanted to defend and care for in that time, but she does not remember who or why; she is fairly certain she lost them. Either way, their names are lost.

Before she found Cyril, she acquired the label of the 'mad dog of Yhark-Disan'. At the beginning of becoming Moonfallen, she rarely was able be in her human/non-shifted form, and as such she supposedly roamed the streets of the city as little better than a rabid animal, prey to her own hunger and fear among the chaos. In truth, she does not remember this time all that well; she struggles to remember any time spent shifted, even nowadays in the present, as the experience is so different to being 'normal'. She has progressively become more balanced between being shifted and unshifted, though she does not know if her sanity and grip on reality has followed suit. Her moniker 'Myah of the Filth' came from when she resided with her previous companions, a group of raiders and looters who utilized her physical prowess when shifted. The 'Filth' part came from the fact that they resided in The Old Aqueducts, which for a while were avoided by all who wished to keep their lives and property in tact. The raiders kept Myah as a kind of 'trained dog' rather than as a person/member, shackled up and then set on those who tried to cause the group trouble. This attempt at controlling her shifted form proved ultimately... unsuccessful and the group no longer has any living members.

Perhaps all that monstrosity and the knowledge that she had lost someone important is why she has attached herself so tightly to Cyril. Among the disaster and fallout, he just happened to be the somewhat stable center she ended up latching onto, transferring the knowledge that she had to protect someone onto him. Mind you, she is not the overbearing sort; she follows him now like a shadow— quiet, loyal, and deeply protective. The most surefire way to trigger a shift in her is to endanger her 'charge', and thus she's become a kind of warped, end-of-the-world version of the Knight archetype.

Cyril

Name Cyril Cromwell

Age 24 years old.

Gender Male

Appearance Cyril's armor is shabby and gives the appearance of being quickly cobbled together. Bits of plate mail armor mixed with hastily sewn and tied together trousers, though the hint of a gold trim can be visible in the right light. It's clearly outdated, and its once grand or noble appearance has been lost to time and abuse. His face and body which is hidden underneath the helmet is rarely seen. The armor protects him from attack, as well as from others witnessing what he's become.

Occupation Wandering sell-sword, originally a noble that became excommunicated upon turning Moonfallen.

Skills Cyril, being of noble birth, was taught how to use and carry a blade. More of a traditional thing than any sort of true need for the knowledge, though it would end up becoming more important upon his transformation. Things such as economics, reading and writing, even cooking as of recent has been things he's been taught. If there was one thing he learned to do well, it was to fight dirty.

Weaknesses Silver, obviously. One could even consider his past identity of being an noble to be a weakness, with bandits and the like believing him to still have some modicum of wealth left. He's no tactician either, most plans he devises are most certainly ones that would end in failure. Survival skills are also things he lacks, seeing as he had no need for them as a noble.

Personality Cyril is rather upbeat, despite the rather poor situation he's been put in. Attempts at humor and kind words to try and stave off the thoughts of the dying world surrounding those he travels with. The dying world surrounding him. Perhaps the words are more for himself than others. To keep the dying embers of hope and optimism alive. Every fault, every problem that arises, all subconsciously piles on in his mind. Sleepless nights have become increasingly common.

Brief History Cyril was a man of high birth, of the Cromwell family. The finest foods, the finest education, and practically anything he desired was easy to come by. His life, until the moon fell, was rather..unspectacular. It seemed within an instant however, that his life of easy and luxury, crashed down around him. He was heir to his family's land, being the only son of the Cromwell family; land that would soon die, unrecognizable when compared to the past.

Dozens of people from Yhark-Disan attempted to take the land for their own. The slow breakdown of civilization turning them to act on their base instincts in their desire for shelter or food. Attacks became daily, with his father and him being sent out with the guardsmen who protected the land to send the pillaging bandits away, or put them in the ground. It would be his father who would become wounded during one of this routine events. A musket ball in the femur, breaking the strong bone in several pieces.

As if fate were laughing upon him, the curse struck soon after. Whispers from nowhere blended with the pained screams of his father as doctors desperately tried to fix the now infected wound. Nightmares blended together, unsure of what was even real anymore. His father would end up dying during one of those horrific nights, his body near unrecognizable by the next morning as the various insects crept their way in to devour him. This land was Cyrils now. Useless land.

Cyril had thought it was all over when the nightmares came to pass. He was unaware of the changes that had already taken place. There was a plan among a few of the noble families, to either find a way out of the city and far away or hole up in the nicest part they could find. A small letter had been delivered to Cyrils father, the others unaware of his untimely demise, inviting the man to join them in their hunt for safer pastures.

The rest is blurry to Cyril. He remembers arriving to the supposed meeting place, only for him to be turned away. Several looks of disgust looked his away, demanding him to leave at once. He can briefly recall digging around for the family's armor as the estate burned down around him. Watching as the fields around him were turned to flame. Then..nothing. Excommunicated from the only class of people he'd been familiar with. Looked up with such disgust.

He was quite happy to have encountered Myah. Until he had met her, he'd been trying to barter and make a life as a sell-sword. Guarding a caravan or the like would sound like good work, but no one wanted to deal with one of the Moonfallen. He was undesirable. Atleast now he has someone to deal with this; together.

Moonfallen Cyril is a Ravenseer, allowing him to have some small way to influence ravens to assist him. The curse has slowly diminished his original appearance, and his body has been changing for some time now as his hope decays. His hair, once a light brown, has turned black as coal. His nails are more like talons, which he attempts to hide them with gloves. Even his skin has become paler.

Posessions Most of Cyrils possessions have been seized, leaving little left. His family's old armor, once shining and extravagant, is a shell of its former self. The bastard sword he wields has luckily been able to stand the test of time, proving itself to be rather reliable and sharp against all odds. It's saved his life countless times. A few small bits of silver, as well as a golden ring which hangs around his neck with a chain necklace is all the 'wealth' he carries. A waterskin and a small pouch for food are at his waist, though there's rarely a day it's not empty.

Erasmus Drysdell

Age:
62

Gender:
Male

Occupation:
Priest

Theme:

[/div][/div]
[div class="tabContent personaContent"][div class="tabShadow personaShadow"][/div][div class=scroll]High Concept:
An old priest whose unfaltering faith in his god is the only thing keeping him sane and able to go on in this dark world.

Relatives:
Wife - Deceased
Child - Deceased

Organisations/Affiliates:
The church - A member since birth and a priest since 16 years old.

Personality:
A man who finds himself watching events from afar rather than getting involved himself. Any actions that he takes are slowly considered, only acting when he is entirely sure that the action he is about to take is what will best please his god. Despite being in a position of relative influence and wealth he instead chooses to live in squalor as a way to prove that he is unselfish in his devotion to the faith and would be prepared to give up what little he has if necessary. Most people blame this not on his faith but on his mental faculties slowly leaving him, earning him the nickname "The Old Coot of the Church".

Moonfallen Curse:
Erasmus has been blessed with the ability to receive messages from what he believes to be God. He follows the messages received by this voice without hesitation as it is a gift that he was blessed with and should not squander.

[/div][/div]
[div class="tabContent physiqueContent"][div class="tabShadow physiqueShadow"][/div][div class=scroll]Weapons & Armor:
Outfit - An tattered and plain version of the priest's traditional raiment. It has signs of clear wear and areas that have been repaired multiple times. He wears a belt to make the robe fit him (due to the lack of food he has began to wither away) as well as a small oil lamp around his neck so that he can find his way around the streets at night to find a place suitable for him to sleep.
Walking Stick - With his age catching up to him he has began to use a walking stick to help him get around. He can still move without its use but prefers to have something that he can lean on to rest his joints. He has also used it as a club to beat rats that have attacked him during his sleep.

Items & Personal Belongings:
Music Box - The only possession that Erasmus keeps. It is a music box that his wife received as a child and it plays her favorite song. As long as he has this music box his wife is still with him.

Skills and Abilities:
Priest - Able to recall the scriptures, as well as being a great public speaker.
Hardy - Living most of his life in squalor has prepared him for the sort of living conditions available after the sorrows.
Destitute - Cares little for wealth and manages to get by scavenging for what little he needs.

Weaknesses:
Elderly - Growing old has affected Erasmus' reflexes and speed.
Religious Fanatic - Erasmus will take time to consider his actions based on the scriptures and will refuse to do anything he feels that goes against them.

[/div][/div]
[div class="tabContent extraContent"][div class="tabShadow extraShadow"][/div][div class=scroll]Backstory:
Erasmus' life has been relatively uneventful. Being born into a very pious family his life was dedicated to the church, with most of his family's wealth being offered as donations to prove themselves as loyal members of the flock. When he came of age his dedication to the church left him little choice for what area of the workforce he would enter. However, he never had a church or parish to call his own. He spent his time meeting with the sick and the poor, teaching them the way to live their lives as virtuously as possible. During this time he met a young nurse, a few years his senior and fell deeply in love with her. The time that he had spent with the poor had taught him that wealth and donations to the church isn't what makes you devout, it was what you were willing to give up to your fellow man. With this change of heart he began donating what little money he earned to the woman that he had met in order to help the sick under her care, and over time she came to love him back for his generosity and kind heart. They married not long after, choosing to live among the less fortunate to be able to help them however they were able. After a few years his wife fell pregnant, they saw this as a sign that God was happy with their work and was rewarding. However, this happiness wasn't to last for long. During childbirth there were complications resulting in both his wife and his child losing their lives. Instead of losing his will to live, Erasmus saw this as a test from God. He needed to prove that his devotion was unconditional, he had cast away all material possessions but was still being selfish by dedicating himself to both the church and his family.
This was a turning point for Erasmus, he no longer treated issues with the level of severity that they were due, instead claiming it was another way of testing the faith of man. When the sorrows began Erasmus saw this as God's purging of those of faltering faith, this was further reinforced by the voice that began to speak with him asking him to carry out tasks for it. Now Erasmus finds himself on a pilgrimage hoping to find those with a worthy soul to help him find the utopia that God had prepared for them.

Character: Adam Jonswell

Gender: Male

Age: 35

Occupation: Veteran guardsman serving in Yhark-Disan

Appearance:
daily_portrait__002_by_h1fey-d85l5gk.jpg

Skills: Adam is a well-trained swordsman with an excellent understanding of the various techniques required to employ the blade correctly, most of them originating from his service as a guardsman. In addition to being a well-honed swordsman, Adam is a skilled handyman along with being fully capable of constructing rudimentary furniture if needed. The last of his finer points is the minor ability in dressing up wounds, although he is limited to non-fatal ones.

Weaknesses: Having been raised in a poor household, Adam was bereft of the advantages of higher education and thus lacks several critical skills. His ability to read, write, and comprehend the written language is poor and simple sentences would take time for him to understand. His skills in mathematics suffer similarly with only a solid understanding of arithmetical operations and barely anything else. Finally, his survival skills are basic to near non-existent with him relying more on his natural senses than any deep knowledge of the wild.

Personality: Adam was once a fair and kind-hearted man, however, his personality shifted dramatically during the Sorrows. Nowadays, Adam is a quiet person with a distaste for other people and has no issue resorting to violence. Despite his more bitter nature in regards with life, there are still lingering traces of his past that show up there and there, but are generally quickly buried.

Possessions: A single worn one-handed longsword, a weapon that was given to him by a good friend, that had seen better days. In addition, he also carries around a cracked, but still capable buckler shield with a faint image of an eagle.

History (Pre-Sorrow to Sorrow):

Before the Sorrows occurred, before the heavenly stars flickered out, before the moon faded into the abyss, Adam was a fair and popular man. His fair sense of justice served him well as he dealt with the average day-to-day issues while serving as a guardsman. He was faithful and loyal to both his family, his friends, and his occupation as an agent of order. Yet his fair personality didn’t survive during the turbulent times that the Sorrows brought.

While Adam was initially strong, serving as a shining beacon to those around him, the mental stress of the world collapsing took its toll on his mental health. As the First Sorrow came and went, the initial signs of his instability were subtle and were easily overlooked by many at the time. Then the Second Sorrow struck and his will bended and was on its last fair legs. Whilst Adam rarely discusses his time during these first two sorrows or even the third one, it is clear that several events caused his dramatic shift in character.

It was when the Third Sorrow struck along with the Moonfallen that Adam cracked. His attempts for stability mattered little by that point. It was when his family fell victim to a few cursed individuals that he grew hateful. It was when very few were willing to help him when he needed them that cracked his faith in his peers. It was during the Third Sorrow that Adam’s slaughter began.

Initially, he focused on the Moonfallen and chose his targets selectively, always turning away from large groups or from individuals that he couldn’t challenge. Then his madness grew as he wished for more retribution that he began to target those who abandoned him and his family. It was when people began to try to stop his path of rampage that he turned on the innocent. By that point, Adam had completed his shift from a pacifist to a murderer with little regards to morals.

Current History:
While Adam’s character shifted dramatically, there were still remnants of his true personality before his mental breakdown. Adam had been a man who steered towards peaceful endings, and thus his thirst for vengeance could not have last forever. His blood-lust was slowly sated by the numerous amount of deaths he himself was solely responsible for and from this, he entered into a state of calmness.

Even with the fading fire within himself, Adam still had the lingering thirst of blood. It was engrained by then to continue onwards, even if his body began to protest against his insanity. It wasn’t long, however, for a single event to happen that would shift his priorities. It was a single fatal encounter with one of his old friends that he believed to have died during the Sorrows that reignited the small sparks of sanity, of who he actually was. It was at that point that Adam wished to redeem himself.

Ascot Barley
Male, 32

Appearance
Ascot is a large man with an angular build. His face is ruddy, his nose large, his cheeks set in an average way. He has sharp blue eyes and an expressive brow, curly brown hair, a matching beard. He tends to wear neutral tones and blues in a sort of middle-income peasant's style.

Prior to the Sorrows, he tried his best to keep clean, scrubbing his clothing with water from the lakeside. His workers' shirts and vests look to be well cared-for, if neglected in recent times, with many of his garments being cleverly patched or sewn back together. He wears long pants and heavy boots.

Occupation
In what feels now like a past life, Ascot owned a tavern and inn, not far from Chalice Lake. The Screaming Hearse was a friendly establishment, a place where travelers were invited to feel at home, as long as they treated those it was home to with respect.

Skills
Ascot's greatest strength is his genuine want (and need) to cooperate with others. He spent many years mediating in disagreements between his patrons, and finding agreeable solutions seem to put him at peace, making him feel as if he has helped in whatever way he can. On the flip side of the coin, he is capable of restraining most average unarmed people at close range, for long enough to (hopefully) talk them down. He has a rudimentary understanding of beer brewing.

Weaknesses
Ascot has an intense need to help people that are friendly to him. He feels for the troubles of women and children in particular, and believes in the integrity of human life, probably due to the deaths of his family. He will do anything in his power to spare a human life, even at his own expense.

Personality
Ascot seems to have a fatherly air about him. He is charismatic, willing to banter or talk in a deeper way with anyone who is available to him, if he is wanted. He carries a sort of sadness, not often visible, but always under the surface - a loneliness and longing for his wife and child. Those more cynical might get the impression that his demeanor is more for his benefit than anyone else's.

Items and Keepsakes
A heart-shaped locket - containing a sketch of himself and his wife behind the glass on one side, and a lock of Alice's hair when she was born in the other. He wears it around his neck.

Brief History
So much of Ascot's life revolved around The Screaming Hearse. It was where he was born, where he grew up, where he met his first love. Women were not often seen in pubs by themselves, but Eliza had come in with her brother, and it had not taken long for Ascot to ask her for company on the weekend.. oh, no matter.

Ascot's childhood could only be described as that of a merchant's son. He was taught basic language, taught to swim and cook, but most importantly he was taught to talk. He was taught to talk to people, see what they had to say, see what they would want and what could be done for them in the confines of the inn. Some patrons needed someone to talk to, a role which Ascot would happily fill, knowing the man (or more rarely, woman) would keep drinks coming for as long as they spoke.

Some of them needed to brawl. There were days that a young Ascot organized bare-knuckled brawls between patrons, confining them to a side of the bar where the stools had been tucked in so as not to damage any property, and letting others crowd around to take bets. Bar fights had always fascinated him, and he had no want to stop them, as long as the bar profited from it. He was content with his life as it was, from the time he was twelve to twenty-three, living in the upstairs of the bar and taking care of his ageing parents.

Eventually, his father passed, as all good men do. Ascot married Eliza, and the couple had a baby, a happy little girl named Alice. Ascot's mother helped the couple with their child, Eliza took up cooking in the back, and again Ascot was content. If the Lord had mercy, all would have stayed as such.

We all know that it was not to be.
The First Sorrow decreased his business, made some of the simpler folk afraid to come outside, but otherwise didn't much affect him. The Second... like everyone else, it changed his life forever.

Ascot's mother and wife became infected, and both died, quite quickly. Ascot didn't know if anyone survived being infected by the the Silver Death, but didn't have much time to worry about it. He had a babe-in-arms, still suckling, not ready to eat solid food. His bar was closed as quickly as his wife fell ill - he hadn't wanted to spread the plague - and he set out into the common people's homes to find someone to nurse his child. A day or two into his search, he found a woman, living with her husband. Their child had fallen ill and passed.

In a moment of pure desperation, he handed Alice over, knowing she wouldn't survive without the family. He'd planned to stay, initially, but that didn't last long. He was taking their food, their resources, and just being there was affecting his baby's chance of survival.

So he left. He slipped out at night, walked off into the world, didn't let himself look back. Nothing could ever be worth it.

History with the Others

Myah ( Bang Bang Bang Bang ) - He's not sure how to feel about Myah. On the one hand, she seems to be suffering, is a woman, and is a generally kind spirit. On the other, her devotion to Cyril is unsettling. Ascot tries not to let his pity for the girl cloud his judgement, having some want to protect her, even when recognizing that she is likely more capable than him.

Cyril ( CerpinTaxt CerpinTaxt ) - Well, Cyril is friendly enough. Ascot enjoys bantering with the younger man, ideally sharing a laugh, and lifting the mood. The boy looks unhealthy, which worries Ascot.. but there's not much that can do.

Erasmus ( dwif dwif ) - Bah, a holy man. The others seem to tolerate Erasmus, and the priest hasn't been hostile, so Ascot supposes he should be at least civil. It irritates him to hear preaching after losing the life he once loved - if God was worth worshipping, he would have cast the plague aside, and spared Ascot's wife.

Adam ( E50M E50M ) - Ascot met Adam on the road some time into the Sorrows, recognizing him from his semi-frequent nature at the bar, and attempting to strike up a conversation. Through the conversation, Adam seemed troubled.. lost in thought, almost. The barkeep tried to keep him close, eventually asking Adam to accompany him, either out of a want to survive or a distaste for being alone. Although Adam is older, Ascot feels a sort of fatherly responsibility to him, trying to make sense of how lost the Adam seems.

Ivan ( Xevia Xevia ) - Ivan presents as a little highborn for Ascot's blood, but there's nothing wrong with that, as long as a man doesn't see himself above the common people. In that regard, Ascot respects the other man, seeing him as the closest thing he has to a true peer - in age, at least, if not in friendly manner.

Name:
Lord Ivan Quentin

Age:
32

Gender:
Male

Appearance:
tumblr_ov71v3IvTn1sjsbvyo1_500.jpg
At a young age, Ivan had been a fit and lean boy whose power in his limbs have been the result of his training on the field. However, his age has not been much kind of him, and his lack of practice has led to his degradation.

Around his neck is a scar, which he keeps covered either by scarves or high collars. However, they are freely exposed now, as he had found conscious coverage of them too much of a nuisance in such desperate times.

Ivan's fashion had been touched by the regal side due to his birth, allowing him a refined gait that is ever present even when the Sorrows came. He once had a collection of lavish clothes, all made with the finest material. He still keeps a few of those in his travels, but his attire now varies.

Occupation:
He is an advisor to the Regency

Skills:

Improved Eyesight
What makes Ivan a good royal advisor is his ability to miss very little. This makes him a good asset, and invaluable, as his naturally observant nature takes in the situation as easily as one would greet the new morrow with a rising sun.

Analytical
Having lived in the world with the years he has, he is more adept in observing the patterns in human natures. He has seen many personalities and species clash as individuals, and this was an advantage he gained when he first started manoeuvring his way up the ranks from being an earl, earning him the place he is in today.

Horsemanship
He was made to ride a horse.

Swordsmanship
He is decent with the sword, though not very competent, hence his style of fighting could be judged as neither brutal nor aggressive, but calculated, should he find himself with a blade in his hand.

Picking locks
Secrets aren't always so out in the open - only the fools hide in plain sight.

Weaknesses:
Ivan is passionate, and it sometimes occurs to him that there are always necessary sacrifices. He is currently very focused on the whole, on the greater and common good that the sufferings of individuals now look to him arbitrary if it was contradicting the cause he was fighting for.

He has not been able to keep himself in tiptop shape after years of constantly searching for knowledge and friends rather than armor, weapon, or enemy. He is no front-line fighter, or a fighter in anything but ideas.

Personality:
Ivan, unlike most of the people he served with in his time during the late king and now the king's council, is a rather friendly individual. His way of entertaining people is rarely forced - seemingly enjoying able to converse in manners of both high and low, flexible according to his conversation partners' needs.

He is often so enthusiastic that it sometimes comes as a surprise when he suddenly turns moody, melancholic, and silent when in deep thought. When he is in this state, he mostly keeps to himself and in his private quarters so as not to upset anyone too much for this oddity.

A good listener, very curious, empathic at certain points, and does not like to boast - little has changed over the past falls of their community. His will and mental capacity and strength has become a rock to some, and an inspiration to many, hiding his greatest fears in the locks of his heart. As with all nobles aware of their responsibility, Ivan saw it in himself a great willingness to venture forth into the mysteries of the Sorrows, even if it would take his life in the attempt, in order to aid his fellowmen and all that died and suffered it its hold. He will do, take, and give whatever he needed to in order to achieve this, even if it means using people as a means to an end.

Brief History:
Even as a child, Ivan of Arkebald was an impressive specimen of a boy. When he first came to court at the age of 8, led by the proud figure of his father and the teetering haughtiness of his mother, he had grabbed the attention of most. Standing a head taller than one for his age, he was the beacon of the latest gossip, possessing the combined qualities of his parents that made him a man soon to be reckoned with. His attire, a fashion he had acquired in their dukedom farther east of the king's land, showed his lithe figure that promised both skill and strength that his build was due. Like many boys his age, he fancied the art of the sword, which was reason enough.

The assembly of the dukedoms in the palace happened nearly four times a year, and so despite the vast territory of the city state, they were all well-acquainted: the goal, it seemed, set by the Regency to avoid civil war, as was the case with most of their neighbours. These meetings were often marked by a ball, so all ranks of highnesses were able to watch one another grow, and Ivan grew to know most of them intimately.

This tradition was not kept for long, however, and by the time Icarus was born when be was 16, the kingdom was plagued with economic depression that even they felt the arduous times. Ivan's training in swordsmanship was halted in most times to help tend to his infant brother, and to give way to his education in handling the affairs of their land. It had become clear early on that Ivan's abilities did not end with the blade, as his father would recall when he presents his sons to many a persons, telling them he was the future of their dukedom.

Ivan's education never ceased, and even as he started his endeavour to call positive attention, he refused to let his mind dull, his focus always looking for something new to learn. This allowed him to become a Jack of All Trades, but only to a certain extent. He cannot be the best in everything, no matter how he tries. His brother, Icarus, grew to be a fine young man that proved his talent in the battlefield. Ivan would soon come to depend on him for mobilisation of their armed force.

As he studied far from the reach of his home, Ivan had come to know countless individuals that served as his friends, acquaintances, and mentors. His adventures in the schools was for another time - in fact, he wrote a book about it for everyone's convenience. It was the sheer proof that of all Ivan's gifts, he was not in terms with writing pieces.

Ivan returned home a man of wisdom, intellect, and opinion of higher caliber. Once he returned to Arkebald he was restless, and would spend his time in inns and dockyards and markets and taverns, wanting to catch wind of news elsewhere. His curiosity shortly won him over, he was determined to want to have a greater impact in the kingdom and regency in which he lived in - this was the beginning of his climb to the side of the Regent.

It is no mystery to the peoples in reach of the Regency that Yhark-Disan is a mindless body whose leaders are moved by a larger influence. Ivan wanted to change that, and to restore the trust back into the local government established rather than be subject to the distant powers and their whims. He performed exceptionally by the side of the Regent, always to be called upon when good council was needed. To heed him was a good choice, and it led to the prosperity of their lands, nearly restarting all the damage caused by the economic collapse.

His would have been the title a granted seat at the council of the Regency had the moon not fallen. The chaos that ensued kept him in the walls of the noble hall he was to take up residence had the ceremony for his ascension been realised, but his restlessness would not keep him there for long, for good or for worse.

Are they Moonfallen?
No.
