The character won't be too OP because he is still getting used to his power. Also saying it's just vague doesn't help me, what parts should I try and improve on in particular?

Could you make his human form a bit more...human? Aside from that, can you justify why he would be teaching in the first place?

What if that's his humanoid form? Like, do I absolutely have to? I'd like to keep some of his original characteristics!
He's teaching because he wants to overcome the prejudice that all perytons are human-heart eating monsters. And that they're all evil-aligned. He thinks that educating them will help the world work together better, and he's interested in the school as a social experiment type of deal. That work?
I would want you to unless he doesn't have a human form. (There's already a Griffin owlcat.)
But he wouldn't be teaching them about his race (which is new to me to be honest) he would be covering the material aligned with the class he teaches. Like I said before, all teachers would have to go through college to gain a teaching license as well as a degree in the chosen field of study. Would he do all that for a social experiment?
Okay. I'll grab another pic. Any specifications? (anime only, real pics only, etc)
Kind of. Like, he kind of separated from his culture since he didn't grow up with them and was basically an orphan as a child. More backstory later if needed. So I guess someone took him in, taught him how to blend in (shapeshift to human), and he's been interested in academics for a long time. After high school he had a bit of a gap year when he went to find his original parents. He found them eventually and lived with them thinking that he might return to his species, but later knew it wouldn't work. He was too smart intellectually and thought their ways were too gruesome. And so he goes to teaching as a way of passing on the tradition of his teacher helping him be integrated into society. Possibly this teacher/father figure is one of the staff/principal of the school?
As long as it isn't anime.
Alright. Get me an image and I'll look it over once more. We already have a (overpowered and bitchy ass) principal as illustrated in the first few posts so I'm not sure about the last bit.
Let me explain his powers a bit more. He can sprout orange Angel like wings out of his back and can also partially manipulate fire. I had thought a transformation into an actual Phoenix but that seemed needlessly pointless considering he already has wings. As for the back story I think you missed out the parts where I explain when he is reborn (because he is a Phoenix) his life span is reset and is born out of ashes. His original parents must of died centuries ago so every other time he is reborn he is probably just going to have lived at an orphanage. The last thing I would like to add is that I don't really understand the school, do the students know they aren't human? Can they use their powers in class? Stuff like that.
