A Faded Ghost
((I'm not sure if this counts as 'Fandom' but it is an AU, so I think it does? Tell me if it doesn't))
You are not-Pokémon. No, I don't mean that you're not Pokémon. I really mean that you're not-Pokémon.
I should probably actually say what I mean.
In the world this story will take place in, humans have types, moves, abilities. They are essentially Pokémon. Except they're not. They are not-Pokémon. And, no, Pokémon do not exist in this world. Animals are just regular animals.
But what does exist, is evil. Evil teams, that is. Team Liev. An evil team who specialises in the Fire and Steel types, with plans to dominate the region.
And, in usual Pokémon - uh, I mean, not-Pokémon - fashion, it's up to a bunch of twerps to stop them because apparently the Fire-specialists that are the police are useless. Hm…
Anyway, no one knows that yet. Don't tell anyone what Team Liev have been doing! There have been a few random issues, but those are just random. Totally random. Not related to anything at all.
Unfortunately, these totally random incidents have affected this year's gym challenge. Because, yes, that exists.
In eighteen of the region's twenty-five cities and towns, there are gyms that specialize in types. Defeating at least eight of these gyms grants people access to the Fighting League, and people are allowed to begin their journeys starting age 13 - though, many do decide to wait until they're older to do so.
Usually, when setting off on these journeys, people are given 'Health Monitors', which tell the user how much HP they have left. However, one of the totally random incidents involved the truck meant to be delivering them getting hijacked. Which meant that it was impossible to give everyone their own Health Monitor. As a result, it was decided that those starting their journeys this year were to go in groups, with one Health Monitor from last year's stock per group, until more could be made. This also made it safer in general.
And that's where our characters come in. Maybe they know each other, maybe they don't, it doesn't matter. They were put in a group to go travelling. And that's it. They totally won't have many encounters with Team Liev as they explore the region. Not at all.
