"It's almost time." he said to his brothers. Jon, a weretiger from the magical world was preparing his clan of brothers to raid the human world. For centuries the magical world has been hated by his kind (magical creatures) and now he was going to make them pay with their lives. But, Jon was not one to fight. He was more of a scout, someone to take care of his family and protect them. And that's what he was about to do, scout.
"Okay, I'll be right back." he said. He leaped through the portal into the human world and began his scouting. He landed inside a field of corn. "Hmm, good place to hide." he whispered to himself. He found much more signs of life than he would have thought in a corn field. It was the middle of the night, but lights were still on and people were working. "Okay, we'll slowly creep towards them from the right and left flank and take them out in a mad but silent rush. He jumped through the portal to signal his family, the raid has begun.
It was ultimately, a boring day for Melody. Or rather, a busy day for Melody. She didn't have to work in the cornfield, thank goodness, but she still had things to do like cook for the workers and clean up after them. It was like this everyday. It was her fathers farm and they were wealthy enough to hire workers to help him and her three brothers work it, and her and her mother and sister got stuck with the inside chores as well as taking care of the livestock.
Now though, she got to relax and wash the sweat off her body before ultimately going to bed. Her brothers were inside now, but the five workers and her father were still outside trying to get all the corn harvested for the market. It was getting very late though and her mother was calling them in to a late dinner. They could finish up the rest of the work tomorrow, being unsuspecting of the raid that was about to happen.
Melody just sat in her room though, combing out her black hair and staring out the window with her bright blue eyes. She sighed softly, before turning out her lamp and laying down to sleep.
It was only 12 minutes into the raid and many of the human workers already had their bodies devoured by Jon's clan. It was going well. He ran around looking for the weak and harmless humans wandering the roads late at night. He set traps from one side of the road to the next. If anyone were to trigger this trap they'd be killed almost in an instant by a sharply shaped projectile from the side of them being shot out by an archer.
He scouted the entire field and he was heading towards the house where the lights were almost all off. He creeped in through a small window in the back and climbed in. There he saw a young girl, she looked to be fairly young, around mating age. He poked her cheeks and checked around her body. "Yes... very young." he mumbled to himself. He himself was fairly young for his species. He was 16 in human years, but 800 years according to his species.
He left her be, for now, and searched the house for anything at least slightly valuable, but could only find bracelets and necklaces, nothing he was into. He found the elders of the family in their living quarters and within a moment the light blew out, and they didn't know what to do. A stabbing noise occurred right before the light turned on and the woman screamed. The man was dead. It wasn't Jon who killed the elder, but his brother Xin. "Good job, young one." said his brother. Jon looked down at his feet and thanked his brother for his thanks. They left the house completely forgetting about the young girl that was asleep. They were headed towards the town.
Melody was young, she had just barely turned 16. When he poked her cheeks, she didn't stir much just moved her hand to swat at whatever was bugging her before turning over and continuing to sleep. It was only when she heard her mother screaming that she jumped up in bed, taking a second or two to register what she heard, before quickly running into the main room. Her eyes widened at the blood and seeing her family murdered. She screamed loudly, sobbing, and running over to them.
She had no idea what to do, she just fell to her knees and sobbed over the loss of her family. This couldn't be happening. Who would do such a thing? Soon, she just went into shock and laid there next to her dead parents, not doing anything but laying there. She hoped the murderers would come back and kill her, she didn't want to be on her own.
The sun was almost up, and the raid was just about finished. After the sun comes up the portal will close and they would be trapped in the human world for a century or until they find a different portal, it wasn't very long to them, but it was sure as hell annoying to be alone.
The town was destroyed, barely any left alive and homes and markets were all in pieces. Jon was scouting for survivors to alert his family about, but there weren't any willing to show their faces. But instead of leaving and joining up with his family he kept scouting, forgetting about the sunrise. An hour later the sun was bright, glaring down on his fur. "Ahhh!" he screamed, he wasn't used to to sun being this bright. In his world he barely got sun, only for a month they would have it. He ran back to the cornfield seeing none of his kind there. "Where are they?" he shouted. "XIN!? FATHER?! BROTHERS? ANYONE?!" he screamed as loud as he could, but the was no answer. He was alone.
He heard humans moving towards the cornfield, he was afraid. He remembered that he could change his appearance to that of a human in this world, so he did. He changed his appearance from a scary, fearless weretiger to a human. When the villagers (like 50 or so) came to the cornfield they found him, all he had on was a pair of pants. "Are you okay?" asked a woman holding her child. "Yes, yes I am. Please leave me alone." he said. He was all alone, he felt like ripping them apart, but he couldn't blow his cover so he walked towards the house that he entered earlier that night. When he walked in he saw a young girl sobbing on the floor next to her dead parents. He chuckled a bit at the sight, he thought it was funny at how weak humans were compared to his species.
She heard a man screaming outside, but she didn't get up. She couldn't just leave her family like this. She didn't want to. She just laid there, even when that same man walked into her home. He chuckled and she knew it was him. "Did you come to kill me too? Please do," was all she said in a soft voice. She just continued laying there, unable to cope with this grief. She felt no reason to get up, felt no reason to do anything but lie there and hope to die.
"Why did you kill them?" she asked him in the same soft tone. "What did we ever do to you? My family has never harmed anyone and yet here you come and just kill us all, like we're nothing but cattle." She was silent then for a few moments before she started crying again. "Please kill me. I don't want to be alone."
((I'm in human form now, not a weretiger anymore.. - therefore I don't look the same :3))
"I-I don't know what you're talking about. I just got here. Why do you think I'm a killer? I was lying down in the field when they attacked!" he said. He was trying to to add any unwanted attention to himself. "Why do you think I killed your family? I just got here!" he shouted. "Don't accuse people if you have no proof." he said.
He stood still for a moment waiting for what she would do next.
((Well, she didn't see him in the first place though so... anyways, lol.))
"Then what do you want?" she asked. "If you aren't going to kill me then leave." She didn't care who killed her. She'd kill herself if she had to. "I don't know who you are, so you have no business being here if you aren't going to help and I already told you how you could help. If you aren't going to then..." she trailed off then, already having said it twice already. The whole time she spoke though, it was in that soft voice. "Why were you lying in the field anyways, you aren't a worker my father hired."
"Actually, I live in the town next to yours. We were not harmed luckily, but my father sent me to check up on your town when he saw a man run in screaming 'MONSTERS! MONSTERS!" he said. He went into the kitchen to grab a knife and when he got back he showed it to her. "Here, kill yourself then. See what good it does!" he yelled at her, killing yourself is not the answer to every problem in life. He threw the awfully large knife on the floor next to her. "Well? What are you waiting for, miss?" he continued to shout at her for about a minute and then he stopped. He should shut up he thought, he would wait for her response.
He explained to her what he was doing here and then he threw a knife on the floor to her. She stared at it, tears in her eyes before grabbing it. "Get out," she said clutching the knife to her. "I don't want you here," she said. "Just get out." She looked at the knife in her hands, staring at it. She wanted to do it, she was just to scared to. "I said leave."
He wasn't one to accept attitude from someone, especially a woman. No matter. He stayed. He moved closer towards her and whispered in her ears. "I know you're lonely, I know the feeling of losing someone. I promise you won't be alone anymore.." He moved beside her and gave her a hug, not tight but enough to make her feel like someone was actually there for her, and that she wasn't alone in the world. "Don't worry, I'll catch the man who killed your family, I swear on my life I will and then I will kill him!" he was obviously lying just to sound like a hero, but he really felt like her family shouldn't have been killed like that, it wasn't fair. What has her family done to his species other than misunderstand them?
He wasn't leaving like she had asked him to. He was staying. He even moved closer to her and whispered in her ear before hugging her. She couldn't help it, she turned around and started crying into his shoulder. She dropped the knife and just began sobbing anew. "Why do you care?" she asked him. "Why help a stranger like me?"
Thinking of something inspirational to say he blurted out something he never would've said in front of his brothers. "Because you're a great person, I know you are! And together we can accomplish anything!" he was enthusiastic about it, he wanted to act like a human being, gain her trust then find out the weaknesses of the humans, but he felt something else. His heart was pounding, he never felt this way before. Could it be? Is he fond of the human? He shook his head then asked her a question. "So what is your name? He wanted to atleast know the girl that he's caring for.
His enthusiasm wasn't cheering her up. She just continued to cry softly in his arms as he hugged her. "M...Melody," she sniffed softly. "Yours?" she asked him. She wanted to trust him, but she couldn't trust anyone because of her family's murder. "Why did he spare me?" she asked in general. She wanted to know why the killer didn't kill her as well. "Was it because I wasn't in here when he killed them and he didn't know I was here, or was it something else."
He looked down at her crying in his arms "It's Jon. My name is Jon." He didn't want to answer the next question because it was his fault in the first place her family was killed, but he did so anyways. "I'm sure you're alive because they didn't see you as a threat, but I'm sure you'll prove them wrong, right?" he threw his fists up in the air with powerful emotions. "I know you're strong, never give up!" he cried.
"Well Jon," she said. "Will you help me..." she took a deep breath. "Help me bury them." She didn't want to talk much and he was being to enthusiastic for her to feel comfortable. "I'd appreciate the help." She didn't believe him about them not seeing her as a threat though, none of her family were threat, they just did the best they could to survive.
He couldn't deny a request this honorable. Even if they were just humans he couldn't deny a request so desperate and meaningful. "Yes. I'll help you." he said. "Where shall we bury them?"
She was glad that he was going to help bury them. "On a hill that overlooks a lake. It's a nice spot so..." in fact it was her favorite place to go and she would rather her family be buried there, somewhere peaceful and tranquil.
"Alright." Jon picked up the bodies of Melody's dead family and began his walk up to the hill. He didn't exactly know where it was so he signalled Melody to lead him. "Show me the way." he growled. "I don't know where to go, so you're going to lead me, got it?" He began walking straight without looking both ways waiting for her to tell him the directions to the hill.
She watched as Jon picked up her family members at one time and just as they started walking towards the hill, he growled at her and had an attitude with her. What did she do to deserve that? She meekly looked down before she moved ahead of him. "It's just over here," she told him. It wasn't long before they were there.
When they got up to the hill he just dropped the bodies like they were trash. "Okay. Get me a spade, I'll dig a hole." he said. He took a second to rest, he was tired. Her family was heavy. Not that they were fat, but two adults is a lot to handle on your shoulders, especially in human form.
"Nevermind," she told him, a bit angry at the "respect" her parents bodies were being given. "I'll do it myself." Tears were in her eyes at the way he was acting now. It was so different than the way he was acting just moments before, like he really cared. She knew better now. She went back to the house real quick to get a shovel, then she came back and started to dig. It was very hard and she could barely get the shovel to go into the ground.
He looked at her struggle, it was pathetic. He didn't say it but he thought it. "Here, let me." he said taking the shovel from her hands. He began digging the hole, and in about a minute he dug two holes big enough to hold her parents in. "There. All done." he said. He picked up the bodies and slowly placed them into the holes one by one. He began praying. "Lord, take these two souls to where you wish. But mind thee they have done no wrong and deserve happiness." WHen he was finished praying he asked Melody is she would like to say one last thing before he covered them up.
