Beyond the far reaches of the universe, looming at the very edge of the Abyss itself, lies the frozen world of Nivirres. Once forgotten, this forsaken planet has just reminded the galaxy of its existence. A mysterious pillar of unreal light surged forth from its surface with such intensity that it was seen from across immeasurable distances. It appeared to have struck against an invisible wall of space, exploding in a fallout of particles and forming an impossibly bright nebula which defied the very laws of the cosmos. The Brightest Star, as it came to be called, seemed to emanate sheer cold and a force field that pushed all nearby matter away from its center.

This phenomena immediately drew attention of the rest of the universe, including the Guild Alliance. Vessels were sent to investigate, but one by one the ships were destroyed by advanced weapon fire originating from Nivirres. It became clear that in order to discover the true nature of the Brightest Star, it was necessary to deal with the threat on the frozen planet.

So the Alliance organized a covert operation, sending a single ship with a crew of professionals to search Nivirres and eliminate any and all found opposition. On a mission of the utmost importance they sent only the best.

They sent you.

/ General Information ////////////////////////////

Genre: Sci-Fi

The game takes place in the year 2873, featuring a futuristic vision of human civilization that has expanded throughout the universe, as well as encompassing other discovered species and technology.

Style: Freeform Points System

The roleplay is based on forum posting in a relatively freeform fashion, yet utilizes the FPS - Freeform Points System. Like in a computer RPG, the characters are defined with skills and assigned points which effect almost everything they do. However, the players themselves are not concerned with metagame thinking in their post. No dice is cast, and the Storyteller's mind serves as the computer processor. He takes into account all the numbers, plain logic, and random odds to produce the result of the players' freeform postings. In this system, all numbers are first and foremost mere references, assigned to skills, abilities, enemies and weapons - and they are dynamic.

Number of Players: 4-8

Due to the game story and idea, this is the desired number of players. Also, once the RPG starts new players will be able to join, but only for a while.

Storyteller: Renarion Arenimon

The one and only, the game master and absolute authority within the game.

You should join this RPG if you:

  • like Sci-Fi settings
  • enjoy action, adventure and discovering secrets
  • favor the idea of a freeform posting style
  • want to pursue a main quest and achieve an ending
  • aren't afraid of a challenge

/ Background Story //////////////////////////////

As the human race advanced in technology, so it did in exploration and knowledge of the universe itself. New planets were discovered and colonized, new alien species encountered. Through wars and truces the human expansion finally reached its peak - the founding of the Guild Alliance.

The Alliance was initially made up from humans and turians, with the asari joining soon afterwards. Each of the three races had its own Guild space, and the Joint Council ruled from a neutral-declared planet located in the heart of the Alliance. Though the universe outside Alliance space was filled with diverse sentient races, few have shown lasting interest for joining.

The Guild Alliance is currently the most powerful force in the known universe.

The sheet is divided into three segments. Make sure to read the detailed "Attributes and Skills" and "Military Experience" sections, and don't be intimidated - you will rarely ever need to think about numbers in-game.

/ Ground Rules //////////////////////////////////

1. The Storyteller is the absolute authority within the RPG and has the final say.

2. God-modding is forbidden. You must abide by your character's restrictions. Never forcefully role play other characters.

3. Players are limited to 1 character.

4. Keep your posts clear, understandable, and as much grammatically correct as possible. Use paragraphs and organize your text to improve readability.

5. Follow the general codex of behavior which applies on the Wayward Inn.

As of now, I officially declare this RPG opened and pending for approval.

In accordance with this I am asking of the Admin Board to review and hopefully approve it, so that I may begin collecting players. Further info might be added in my first post, depending on the RPG's status and other factors. Thanks.

Thanks Wiz :)

Right, so Nivirres: The Frozen World is officially waiting for players now. As said in the General Information section, I am aiming for anywhere from a minimum of 5 to a maximum of 8 players. Take the time to read all the sections. I did my best to strike a balance between brief and descriptive. You'll see it's all even simpler than it sounds. I don't want anyone to be intimidated with the points system. Once you start playing, I'll be on top of that don't worry ;)

The story and gameplay will be rather nice, and there may even be a sequel to this once we're done. I expect this to be one of the "finishable" RPGs :D

Serena would love this planet but some other creature will go in her place. I'm in.

I would like to ask for a spot here as well. This sounds awesome and I love Mass Effect, though I have only played 1 and 2 (hoping there won't be any spoilers for the 3rd).

You are most welcome aboard, Snarltooth :)

You needn't worry about spoilers, I just borrowed a few races, that's all. Of course, that doesn't mean players can't import some of the weapons and/or armor from Mass Effect as well. We'll see. I intend this to be a fairly simple, adventure-driven RPG that will be finishable (It's not a word, I know), and there may even be a sequel.

So right now we have Petal and yourself. 2 more people and I'm willing to start, though I'd like to get a few more than that.

Thanks, I really appreciate this.

All of you, feel free to take the time to read through the sections at your own pace. All questions, suggestions and general feedback are most welcome in this thread or privately in my inbox.

As soon as we have 4 players (at this time we need 1 more), I will start making the final preparations regarding forums. If we really have to we'll start with 4 players, though I hope we'll get a few more than that. If nothing else, the game will remain open for people to join for some time after the game has started.

STATUS UPDATE

We are still waiting for 1 more player before we can start. I'd start now, but it would really be best if there was 1 more, even though I'll be playing a character myself so technically we have 4 right now.

What I want to know, is whether all the people who said they'll play, are still interested and active on Wayward? Just post here to report in.

Somehow I noticed her absence (I think it was "her"). That's one of the reasons why I asked.

The number of players is entirely up to me right? With Snarltooth gone, there are only Petal and Grem in queue, plus myself makes three players. I'm still bent on starting as soon as I get 1 more, even though that means there will be 4 of us, and not 5 as initially planned.

I think I'll do that. Maybe once this gets started, more players will become interested because they'll see go masterfully it's designed :D

Thanks Miz.

:D , Just don't give up. Not game gets started instantly, We will be seeing an increase in members in the coming weeks, so just hold out and keep trying :) !

Allow me to present the first player character, one that I will be playing myself and who will serve as an example for your own characters, and will also be the leader of the mission you are about to embark on. I give you Generyn Tyder, a commander of the Guild Alliance, Special Operations Division.

Probably a work in progress, of course.

Hmm... I may join this RP. This is eerily close to my own, just so you know.

Only problem I have with it is the damned points system. I hate working with such systems... but I think I'll make an exception for this one, due to how this one's laid out... I like it!

Wolf if you have enough people let me know, I think this RP is ready to be approved.

Ok , i admit i was bored and had nothing better to do , so i made a profile. If you dont like it let me know i can change it as needed , or remove it if ya dont need me

^_^ But take a gander.

Awesome :o

We can actually kick this off now! Keiro, it's really like computer games, this points system... for example Dragon Age. Once you make a character and assign points, I'm handling it from there. Players don't have to think about points anymore, but I think they will undoubtedly prove useful for me to strike a balance between random odds and my own judgement when it comes down to fighting and how successful you are at performing tasks. It's an experimental system I'm testing out :D

Wiz, I'm ready to start mate! :D

I'm familiar with the points system... having roleplayed for a number of years... but I just hate it.

As I said though, I'm making an exception for this RP... so yes, I'm in.

Oh, I just thought you weren't familiar with this particular system. All points system roleplays I've seen actually USED the points throughout the game kind of like D&D, and in this case like I said, they're just for my reference.

Glad to have you aboard man ;)

It's quite alright... I blame it on me not filling out my profile enough so you'd see for yourself... then again, I don't think you've seen my discussion on another RP... heh.

But yeah, this should be very interesting.

Glad to be aboard!

This game has been approved. The Storyteller may proceed to the backstage and begin creating the game.

Name: Aril Saday

Race: Asari

Personality: Aril loves to show off her agility, in combat she will wait for her opponent to tire constantly dodging their blows and then strike where it hurts. Being 296 years old she is still in her Maiden stage and due to her curiosity she will usually volunteer for scout assignments as her loves to be the first one to explore the matter in question. Aril is not shy when it comes to knowledge and seeks to understand everything she hears about and might become restless or agitated if she can't understand something. Sometimes she will even try to seduce someone in order to acquire wanted information. When in company she is more likely to prance around than sit quietly, moving from one person to another until she finds someone who can share interesting thoughts and memories. If she sees no benefit in your company she will appear to be deeply in thoughts, busy and will generally avoid you when she can.
