[Nivirres: The Frozen World] (Main) Chapter Two - The Frozen World

"Perfect. Now..." After concluding the situation, the commander entered the main tent nearby and bent over the radar map. "We have less than twenty hours until dawn. According to Karnsk's intel..." he made a short pause and glanced across everyone's faces before he continued. "... our objective, the communications tower or whatever it is, is located approximately fifty clicks to the northeast, placing it on the far edge of a mountain chain on the other side of a large plains. It will take us an hour and a half to reach it, probably more as we'll likely run into some resistance. As much as I'd want to hope otherwise, I'm afraid we've done more than enough to alert the enemy to our presence." His tone was somewhat worrying. "Even if the crash landing trick worked, the robots we encountered in the warehouse may well have sent out a warning back their base of operations. Not to mention the earthshaking explosion afterwards. I've made stealthier entries in my career, I can tell you that much. But what's done is done."

Turning his back to the console, Tyder continued addressing his team. "We'll take six hours to rest and then move out in the direction of our objective. I'll take the watch. The rest of you, unless there are questions, are dismissed."

"Sir, if I may, not so much a question, but rather a suggestion? Now I'm no tactician, but it'd appear that the enemy is advanced well beyond what we expected to face. If we're assuming that the enemy is alerted to our presence which, I believe is the wisest choice. I think we should take Karnsk up on his offer. His downed ship may have have gear we will need, and even if we don't find any salvage..." Coryn traced a line of his proposed route as he spoke "We can circle north and around any direct resistance. Chances are that if they know we're coming they'd set up defensive lines southwards towards our base. We could hit 'em from the north western flank, possibly catch 'em off guard." As Coryn finished speaking he stood straight again, his left hand folded around the small of his back, his other hand sitting casually over his holstered pistol, as he looked around at his teammates and gave a small shrug.

Commander Tyder sighed. "Fine, we'll ransack Karnsk's vessel." For a moment he thought he saw a victorious smug on the turian's face. "As for our approach... We will eliminate any enemy positions we encounter. It might be handy to cripple their numbers and potentially secure an escape route for later."

Coryn grinned a little, and nodded as the Commander spoke, "Yes sir."

He then gave the Turian another look over, remembering something Saday had said; "as long as he needs us, and I would say he does, he is a precious ally considering his experience."

As long as he needs us... what happens if he decides he doesn't need us anymore?...

Again Coryn's hand dropped to his side, finger tips tracing over his holstered weapon. He didn't know this Turian, he was a criminal in the eyes of the Alliance, and unfortunately, they needed him for now. But he didn't trust him.

Karnsk raised his arm in a defensive position, completely ignoring the rest of the team to respond to the Asari. "Woah woah, what are you implying, missy?" He asked, lowering his arm and accidentally causing his hood to fall. This would reveal to Coryn and Aril for the first time just how much cyberware he had installed. "Somebody surprising me? I don't know, I might have to take you up on that bet with a bottle of fine wine once we ge-" The turian was interrupted in his flirting by a spark from his throat as the voicebox inside failed critically. Oh well, at least that shut him up.

"Woah woah, what are you implying, missy? Somebody surprising me? I don't know, I might have to take you up on that bet with a bottle of fine wine once we ge-" Aril giggled, a true girlish giggle, this amused her greatly.

"Why don't we go dancing? I bet you can do a great Robot dance." She said knowing that after that spark from his throat he won't be responding. She smiled at him, a simple genuine smile.

When the Commander finished, Jack nodded and left the makeshift war room. He stood still outside the tent for a while, gazing up into the sky, staring at Nivirres' small moon well on it's way upwards. After a minute or so, he sighed and headed for the other tents, in search of rations, Jack had been starving since they had landed. "Let's hope we have coffee.. and cake would be nice too.." He thought, when he began ransacking through the supply crates.

Before long, commander Tyder seemed to be the only one left awake on his guard duty. Actually, he could not see Karnsk, and the turian probably slept with one eye open. A few more hours and they would move out, he knew. It was cold, and the wind had died out, making the snow flakes fall down incredibly slow and gentle. Tyder had faith in his team, both Alpha and Bravo. They would get the job done. But it seemed that this mission had just gotten alot more complicated.
