[NEXT!] Season Premiere 205

Johnathan Ulfritched/ Patty

"Well, you've all ready had abit more help settlin' in than I have..." She gives a welcoming smile, as she sets two cocktail glasses of some pink beverage between the two. Whatever it is, it's fairly strong. "...Only real help I've had out here is m'folks back home. N'even then they aren't too fond o' me bein 'cross the pond." America has /not/ proved much in the way of acceptance for John, in his day to day life. He remains optimstic, but, for the most part, the nation has been indirectly offensive, and much too warm, except around winter. "Land of opportunity" he mutters under his breath, as she returns behind the bar counter, slipping into masculinity for less than a moment, and barely audible to the other.

"So, you two both had stints last season?" She asks, returning to her previous bouncy demeanor. "How was it? Any idea wha'we're in foor?"

Heather Lockfield/Havoc

The blonde shakes her head. "I was not in last season at all. I'm new."

Johnathan Ulfritched, Patty

"Oh...but you?" She turns to the francophone, her smile fading for only a moment. He wonders who else is showing up, how long until the meeting starts, and how many more she'll be working with.

Lillian Harry aka Storm Whip

"Not to speak poorly of my past employer,"
she said, putting on her interviewing voice, dropping most of her accent, "but Star City Electrical Power & Gas had response issues. By the time messages got to me, it was too late." SCEPAG seemed to always have criticism over its response issues. Storms rolled in and people would be out of power for a week. For Lillian, it was the length if time it went from the monitoring group, to a threat assessment group, to media involvement, through a supervisor and back to the monitoring group to dispatch her. Sometimes it took half an hour for the message to get to her. The TV crews would be packing up by the time she would arrive.

"As a fairly new person myself, you are only as good as the people they team you up with." She wasn't speaking of other heroes, necessarily, but with the people who were focusing on getting your career started. Some heroes seemed to get on TV every week, others every couple episodes. For her, she was in the background twice, earning her a bonus, but her team, despite trying hard, wasn't prepared for what it took to really sponsor a hero.

She hoped that her team would be more competent this time. It looked like they were seriously putting forth some effort to get a mix of players under contract. Magicians, wind, air and electrical. Butterfly boy had fire covered. "I guess we will see soon." She looked over at the secretary, wondering when this meeting was set to start. "Any of you work wiz zem before?"

Richard Farnsworth/ Merlin

Richard Shrugs, and grins lopsidedly. "Well, y'see- I'm new myself. Or- to be precise, I'm Officially New, and what experience I got last season no longer officially Exists, because shit went wrong. Anyway!" He chuckles faintly, and leans back. "I wasn't with this Firm, m'self- and as for Spell Overlap, M'Lady? Well- I do Illusions, and I blow shit up. There any overlap?"

Johnathan Ulfritched, Patty: Witch of West Dublin

"Only the blowin' shit up part, that much should be obvious! I'm an Irish(briefest of pauses)woman goin inta' battle. Wha'else w'd'you expect?"
She exclaims proudly, adding a giggle before turning to the frenchwoman again. "This is actually my first real firm.... Well, I /had/ a partnership with a makeup company called Villa, but I never actually got a chance to get sent out, they mostly just worked trying to convince me to go into modelling before they'd let me go on missions. How'd'ya feel if a firm did that? Wouldn't let ya' help people unless the public though'y'where pretty? Koin'da sucked, but, thankfulleh, a super who's stuck doin'nothin is easy t'buy, and with Villa goin'under an' havin' noo idea wha't'do with me'n'the other girls, they sold our contracts faster than'a'protestant gets rough'd'up in the bar I'm named for." She explains.

Lillian Harry aka Storm Whip

"But, did not zey know you were not a girl?"
Finally breaking the ice surrounding the man dressed in a woman's costume. He was not the traditional female heroine, but she could pass a brief glimpse, or at least leave someone with doubt.

"But you must have gotten a good deal on cosmetics. I didn't get a discount on my utility bill." The man dressed as a woman at least knew how to use the cosmetics to feminize herself. She looked good, or he, depending whether you went by physical characteristics or projected traits.

Johnathan Ulfritched, Patty: Witch of West Dublin

She seizes up for a good while. "...E-excuse me?!" Looking both caught off guard, and offended. She takes a moment to adjust her dress, before eventually deciding on not answering the first question. "Well, actually, I didn't even get so much as a discount. I got free samples, but lets face it, thats one rinse, not much. You have to actually get tied to the cosmetics, get your face out there as they say, to get a proper discount." She drains her glass, pours another drink for herself, just whiskey this time, and grumbles just low wenough most can still here. "Well, they made alot of pointers about me bein' Too flat fer covers but still..."

"I just assumed that...err, do you prefer 'she' pronouns, by the way?" Amira asks, before continuing "I assumed that Patty's birth assignment was none of my business. She introduced herself as 'she,' so that's what she should be referred to as, unless she tells us otherwise. It's fairly simple; and to call attention to it is, well, a little tacky, Lillian."

Her voice is calm, but the cheek underneath her eyepatch moves ever so slightly, as though the eye hidden underneath is twitching in annoyance.

"And even though your question wasn't directed at me; NEXT is, above all, about entertainment. You'd be surprised at how much of what they have us do is scripted to generate on-screen drama."

Heather Lockfield/Havoc

Deciding it was best to stay out of the former conversation, Havoc willingly accepts the change of subject. "Seriously? Sounds like a serious pain. That makes it sound like we're just actors with superpowers."

Johnathan Ulfritched, Patty: The Witch of West Dublin

Eager to change the subject, she nods, still looking somewhat mortified by Lilian's comment. "Well, better than applying for a public service job and being forced to live as a struggling model. I-I mean, atleast we'll be, like, dealing with actual bad-guys, roigh'?" She shrugs, giving a half-hearted smile. Looking around. Blushing heavily. Johnathan identifies as a man in his daily life only. The only reason he hasn't gotten a sex change is because of his family believing him to be a good proper lad, a boy to be proud of, Lord yes, not one of those sinful freaks y'see on the telly! Lord yes! While he's in Star City, he's much more free from his family, but they still expect him to keep contact often, and as bigoted as they are, he still loves his mum.

Roger stirred and turned a bit as you all talked, the butterfly on his face still turning about. He was obviously dreaming about something that made him smile and continue to shake and stir. He began to stretch and yawn as he opened his eyes and looked around to everyone in the room. "Morning" he said as he took everyone one in and his surroundings, including a clock on the wall that clearly revealed it was the afternoon.

"Hows yall doing today?"

Merlin coughs a few times, and blinks. Then, as Roger awakes, he delightedly takes the opportunity to tear his gaze away from the bizarre argument shaping up near him. "Oh! Hey Man..! Butterfly-Fire dude, right..? Nice meetin yah. I know I ain't doin half bad." He says with a smile as he closes his book with one hand and waves with the other- the hand that had closed his book moving it to his pack.

"Yeah! Things've been goin'...well, good, y'know?" She shuffles away from the table, towards him, and extends a hand, scratching at the back of her head with the free hand. "Jess...sittin' wait'n'gettin' t'know eachoother."

Vincent mainly just listened to all the exchanges, just trying to get a good measure of his new coworkers. He knew Lurk well enough to not have to worry about her, but a lot of new faces and some he just hadn't really run into before. His gaze shifting over to the sleeping man waking up finally with a slight nod to him before looking back at the others. He could be social but at the moment he was a bit caught up in the whole having been called here by their new bosses, which made him a bit of garbage at conversation right now.

Heather Lockfield/Havoc

Havoc just gives the fire man a friendly nod before going back to what she was doing before initiating the socialization: checking stuff on her phone.

Reid/Phoenix Champion

"A lot of new faces.
" Reid says from the door, silently cursing his lateness. "Not all though." He adds as he catches sight of Lurk and Storm Whip, nodding at them. "Reid, by the way." He continues as he removes his helmet. "Anyone have a clue why so many of us are being acquired at once?"

Patty gives a breif, energetic wave, at the newest newcomer, and slides another drink along the bar in his direction.

Lillian Harry aka Storm Whip

Lillian left her drink untouched. She didn't mean to be impolite, but she didn't drink in costume. It was part of trying to remain professional. "Not sure they ever did this before. Maybe they want to get a lot of us, and then choose which ones they want to promote."

It made sense. Get a bunch of heroes, put them out on the streets to compete for minutes on TV. A little competition to force the best out of each of them. Except Butterfly Man, who already had a following.

Johnathan Ulfritched, Patty: Witch of West Dublin

"Maybe thaere puttin' together a new team to push? Y'know, loik in th'old comics, they'd introduce a few new heroes, in a short lil'period of time, then they'd form a team'soon'as they can, af'er foightin' a new villain!"
She grins, bouncing giddily as she speculates. They would often have a single somewhat popular or better known hero without their own series headline the team as it's leader. It all makes perfect sense!

Amira Darzi

Amira shoots Patty another look, to make sure she's alright, then crosses her legs and waves to Reid.

"Oog, I kinda hope they're not doing a team-up. Lurk's a little too grimdark to play well with others."

Roger just remained quiet for the duration, since you all had a conversation going, only giving a nod or two if attention ever fell on him. He sat back down on the sofa and just patiently waited for something interesting to happen.

About an hour later the large doors to this waiting room opened and a man in a suit came in, he had some sort of comm in his ear and was talking out loud. "Yes yes, I'm walking in through the door now" he said as he silently moved his lips telling his assistant thank you for opening the door for him. Both of his hands were carrying bags. He quickly walked over his desk and put them down, ending the call and finally looked to all of you. "I apologize for my tardiness, I am Agent Miller" he spoke.

He offered his hand to who ever wanted to shake it and once that was done he continued to speak. "It is such a pleasure, seriously. Oh by the way, I come with your new comms" he continued to explain as he reached into the bag and passed out the devices. These little devices functioned as clocks and as phones between you, your agent and the firm as well as the NEXT director during official episodes.

"So how is everyone? Please tell me your names, so we can get started" he said as he waved his hand and a virtual file appeared over his desk.

Heather Lockfield/Havoc

"Heather Lockfield, also known as Havoc."
After accepting the new comm, Heather crosses her arms as she replies to the man. "And as far as how I'm doing, I guess I'm fine."

The young woman then examines the comm, as she didn't possess one before this was a new experience.

Lillian Harry aka Storm Whip

The new man in the suit had to be their contract agent, the man who basically owned their contract and could lease them out for corporate sponsorship. Or maybe he was the corporate agent that had been responsible for purchasing their contract. Either way this man was their new point of contact.

The comm links were much better than what she had used before. The wrist band had been old before she was born. "This bodes well," she said quietly. An upgrade in technology had to improve her chances of getting on TV. Faster response times, better timing, and perhaps better positioning.

"My name? Hero or normal? I am called Storm Whip. Lillian Harry in normal guise." She wasn't sure how this worked exactly. "Are these things electrically shielded?"

Michael Singh

"Michael Singh, also known as Prana." Michael called out, his voice surprisingly clear for someone who had, considering the amount of shot glasses surrounding him, tried to drink himself into a stupor. "So what's our first job?"

Dragging himself from the table he said "Of course, the assumption is it's our first job, considering these comms can communicate I'm guessing we're supposed to work in teams? Or are these just for back up in case of an emergency?"
