Quill
Yeah, no surprise there. There were way too many people here for all of them to end up on the team; some folks were definitely going to get cut along the way. Quill figured she had a decent chance of making it pretty far on her powers alone--assuming they wanted someone like that--but even she was a bit nervous about making it all the way. The most she'd done was try a spin dash, and that hadn't gone well...
Jackie, though--the kid seemed to be taking this news pretty hard. She had no idea how much he prepared for this, but he was definitely spooked now. "We still don't know what these tests are going to be, kid," She managed to say after fumbling for a moment for the words. "All we can do is give it our best shot, yeah? That's--"
Her thought was cut off with the shattering of glass and the room going dark. Oh, wonderful--now she had to worry about people bumping into her and getting pricked on top of everything else. Terrific.
Birdie
Birdie felt her fur spike as the lights went out. What the heck was that!? All she remembered was a burst of light and the sound of shattering glass. Was this part of the exam? It definitely didn't seem planned, but maybe that was the point? Geez, that almost distracted her from the bomb Sonic had dropped about the whole elimination thing.
I mean, yeah, that made sense, but still, it was pretty nerve-wracking to know this whole test thing just got a whole lot more competitive. Guess she just had to hope what she had to offer was enough to make the cut.
The other examinees anxiously clamored around her, probably just as shaken as she was by the whole incident, maybe more. She flicked the dial on top of her camera nervously; what she wouldn't give for a night vision mode or some kind of light beyond a flash setting...
