New user but long-time role player trying to reach 10 posts!

Dember

Role Play Enthusiast!
Hello there! This seems like a nice active site to find new partners on. I'm especially interested in one-on-ones, preferably over instant messengers - but to give out my usernames for those, it seems I'll need to be able to send private messages.

If anyone would like to help me reach that 10 post quota, I would sincerely appreciate it! = )

If you'd like to know a bit about me, my name is Dember and I'll be 25 next August. I live in northern California, but time zones shouldn't be any concern because I work from home and can adjust my schedule to my partners.

I've been role playing for more than thirteen years now, having started way back when I was about eleven.

As for eras, I enjoy both modern, medieval and just about anything else, including world-building with entirely new concepts for civilizations and settings - our imaginations are the limit!

The vast majority of my role plays do involve some form of a supernatural element to them, whether subtle or dramatic, and I am especially fond of
fantasy science in which a seemingly "magical" aspect actually has a believable (if not entirely realistic) explanation behind it.

For genres, I like a bit of everything in varied amounts, as long as it's appropriate to the role play itself - action, adventure, drama, mystery, horror, comedy, romance - you name it.

I do prefer to at least eventually include romantic themes, and will happily discuss plots as long as necessary to establish a good story and pairing that suits both characters involved.

My method of choice is past-tense, third person, paragraph style - but I must confess, I've actually never heard of the categories "detailed", "casual" or "simple" before joining this forum.

If anyone could be so kind as to point me to where I can find a description of each, I would love to see which most applies to me! = )

Thanks for stopping by, hope to hear from you soon - have a puppy for your time!

Welcome to the site!

There is a lot of info in the FAQ, I at least saw an answer to your question about detailed, casual and simple categories

@Casssiopeiaaa

Awesome, thanks a bunch! I browsed the forums a bit but I must be awful at navigating them because I didn't find it the first time so I just presumed there wasn't one - even tried using the Search function to no avail, haha. I've found it now, though - definitely Detailed for me! = )

You're welcomee!

The detail style of writing is one of the best. Myself I'm very detailed and casual.

@Casssiopeiaaa

I tend to adapt to my partner quite a bit, honestly. People usually label me as "literate to advanced" as far as oldschool terms go, but as long as a role play is detailed enough to not be bland, I'm not too picky on length - give me something to reply to; quality over quantity, and all that. Obviously, I would write a lot more for an in-depth action scene than a simple back-and-forth conversation between two characters, for instance. = )

Welcome to RPN! *throws confetti in air* I'm Kestrel, but you can call me Kes if you want.

*takes puppy and runs off*

@Kestrel

Haha, thanks! It's nice to meet you, Kes!

I'm not really sure what to talk about, to be honest - I've never been on any site that has a post quota to meet to be able to use private messaging.

Hm...oh, I know! Would anyone like to guess what kind of dog that pupper is? : D

Well darn, I knew that was too easy : P Yep, she's a black & tan pom!

Alright, well did you want to discuss a potential role play, if anything I described above might appeal to you? = )

If not, no worries - maybe instead hazard a guess at my other pup instead if you'd like. She's a mix of two breeds! : P

Yep, half Siberian Husky!

Here's a photo of her all grown up if it might help you guess the other half? : D

That's very true. I adapt very to my partner as well. If they're dedicated, I'm dedicated. I'm not very picky either as long as the person has a bit of realism and maturity because I hate generic plots with predictable stuff happening.

@Casssiopeiaaa

I couldn't agree more!

I'd much rather hold my horses and plan out a fun and original storyline for up to a month or more if necessary, rather than dive right in and "wing it" - in more than a full decade of role playing, I've never had a role play like that last to be long-term...and they were never very exciting either, which really affected my enthusiasm for replying to them.

I'm really glad I outgrew my
"real life doesn't follow a script, so it'll be way more fun if we just fly by the seat of our pants!" mentality, haha. Role playing became so much more fun after I realized that a little brainstorming goes a long way in terms of keeping things interesting! = )

I know right, I can brainstorm for hours and plot for even more hours with my rp partners. It just gets the creativity flowing and opens so many possibilities. At the same time it's good to just not plot too much as well. Start with something and let it flow a little until you feel like you're pushing it a bit and needs something to happen. If you plot too much it will just end in you already knowing what's going to happen which isn't fun at all

Most of my roleplays died out from just that, planning too much because it ended in me losing the interest to reply completely.

So you just have to find that sweetspot with brainstorming.

@Casssiopeiaaa

Very well said! "Sweet spot" is a great way to put it!

You know, I've found that if you rely too much on a plot idea, your characters or the circumstances themselves may throw you a curve ball and not happen at all how you expected, so even if you did get too far ahead of yourself, you end up needing to backtrack and reassess the situation anyway.

Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, though - I personally think it's part of the fun; a new obstacle to overcome...or find a way to work around! ;D

You know, I've actually been looking not just for a role play partner, but also just a friend to bounce ideas off of, for inventing plots for my own stories and designing original characters' backstories - maybe to help me out a bit with my writing when I'm feeling stuck or uninspired, and to offer the same in return for them.

Do you think you might be interested in a partnership like that? c:

Oh I could go on and on about this with plotting, hahah

And I'd love a partnership like that. I mean it's only a good thing to have a person who can be there to help get the creativity flowing. I don't know if you have ten posts already, but when you do you could just send me a private message and we can keep talking about all of this there. I would not mind having someone to brainstorm with because I love to get my creativity flowing.

@Casssiopeiaaa

That sounds awesome!

I'm actually at nine so far, haha - but do you happen to have any instant messengers? Once I get my tenth, I could send you the usernames for mine if you'd like!

I've never been one for chatting or even role playing over websites at the best of times, considering how much more convenient it is to use messengers, email, google docs and the like
(plus, I can respond to IMs almost all day, even from my phone) - but this does seem like a great place to search for one-on-ones, which is why I'm willing to jump through their hoops about the 10 post requirement, lol. : P

I have most of my one x one roleplays over mail, tumblr, wattpad and what not really. I prefer mail because they have no word limit and I can answer over my phone and computer. If you mean like kik and stuff like that I do have that as well, but I mostly use those to just chat about ideas because I could no way in hell have a roleplay just over my phone. That would just be exhausting my autocorrect fucking things up.

But you can send me the usernames or email address of whatever you want me to add you and I will add you

@Casssiopeiaaa

I actually meant more like AIM, Skype or Trillian, since those have huge character limits, or none at all - and yeah, I typically only use them for chatting and RP discussion
(hence the convenience of them being portable) otherwise I also prefer email or even google documents for role plays. You don't happen to have any of those, do you?

And woohoo - ten posts! Finally! : D ... Now, how do I actually send a private message? lol

Yep indeed! Her father was a champion line Siberian Husky and her mother was a sable German Shepherd from working lines. Great job! : D
