Fantasy New to this..

Cyanide Dolls

Hello.. so.. as the title kind of explains, I'm really new at this.. I'm not sure exactly what to do or where to start but if anyone is willing to take he lead and show me how it's done I'd be eternally grateful. I'm half decent at making characters and backstories.. Just not so good at plots.

I'd really like that. And it's not that I haven't done an Rp before, it's just that I've never really needed to come up with the plot. It was usually run by someone else in the group so I'm a little shaky in that respect but I can try.

No worries, I find making up original stories is difficult for even the most amazing of writers (and imagine how hard it would be for someone as bad as me).

For some idea of what would make a good plot for you, what RP genres do you usually prefer?

(I just realised the thread has fantasy stuck on it, I am sleepy indeed)

I usually enjoy a dnd style setting.. strange fantasy creatures and all that. But time period or setting usually fluctuate and I haven't found a favorite. What about you?

So just usually strange concepts involving a fantasy setting.

Above all else, I prefer being interested or drawn in- a book may appear to be the abysmal spawn of the romance genre, but if it's well-written, I will enjoy it as any other good story.

To that end, I tend to be attracted to fantasy and science fiction, as both are very flexible to write in.

Then I guess that seems like a decent place to start with. I can try to come up with a couple ideas or prompts I guess if you'd like.

It's up to you, I'll try to think of something regardless, I've been a GM plenty of times.

Fantasy wise, I can write up a plot for you regarding:
-A force threatening an entire world, but being encountered first by a small community
-Something mysterious happens to a number of people, and they have to fight and explore their way to the answer.
-An unofficial decree by a ruler to have questionable things done, in the name of good will.
-People of a low position are released with responsibilities, without much explanation.
-An island!

That's off the top of my head, anyway.

The one about the decree by a ruler seems interesting.. what kind of decree would it have been? Will a religion be involved?

Well, that depends on the scale. If it were a small mission, it'd probably be either something bloody and secretive, or full of treasure and would have more to it than what would appear. If it were realm-wide, he'd probably be trying to destroy something or someone threatening his people or his power.

Religions are always involved, of course, and it can be up to you how much magic or godly elements are a part of the RP's story.

If you're not sure which you want, I can just put together a whole big set of paragraphs and get a given story going if you want. Otherwise, I'm open to preferences.

Honestly I'm not sure so it might be better if you put things together and get it started if that's alright.. sorry.. I'm feeling a bit shy and insecure about this..

Alright, I'm tired, so I hope I haven't missed any details in the OP that you would want to know.
Obviously there'll be separate threads for us to make characters, etc. etc.
Oh, and if you don't like it, let me know.

It's really amazing. Though I'm not sure I understand the religion completely. I am also unsure of where I should stand in Al of that.. Sorry..

I mean.. I could play the part of a foreigner so it could be left to me asking questions later on. A mercinary or traveler of sorts I guess?

Knew I missed something.

On the religion side of things, they praise the sun for blessing people with virtue, and providing life (see: photosynthesis), while allowing the fear of the night because it removes all the curses and evil from regular life, into what the people consider another world of its own. People think that day and night are separate entities, and not just the turning of the sun.

For this reason, they consider the duality of society to be directly tied to the time of day. Business, good conversation, work and general prosperity are supposed to take place under sunlight for good luck, while the night is both rest and struggle. If you fight, you will train for it in the nights, before going to war for the Prince-Priest. You pray at night, or under any darkness (shade counts), either for good fortune the next day or to hope you're not killed.

Don't be sorry though, you haven't done anything.

Alrighty. But again, I'm not sure what kind of character to create or where she would step into all of his.

And thank you. That makes the religious views much clearer now

Well, the role of both is that they happened to be in the land, and they were picked to meet there, whether that be with threat or promises of wealth. More of what they mean overall will be elaborated by the story as it goes further into the quest.

You could write a pilgrim- a traveler paying their respects to the faith out of tradition. Background beyond that is up to you, and I won't force combat all the time (so you can have some kind of more passive assisting character if you really want, although hostility will occur). Or maybe a relic hunter, specially looking for remnants of old history for either monetary or spiritual gain.

So am I able to be one of the ones that was told to meet there then? I wasn't sure if that role was filled.

I'm sorry.. I'm just insecure about what I'm supposed to do.. I'm trying though.

Oh, yeah, that's my fault- the introduction refers to the people supposed to be undertaking the mission.

I don't really mind. It's 2am, so I think I'll collapse before I can finish another paragraph.
