Advice/Help New RP, Genre Undefined.

Roleplay Type(s)
Hey there! So I'm in the midst of attempting to come up with a new RP. This RP is somewhat of an Early Modern Day (like, before the dab, fidget spinners, and self deprecation becoming humorous), centering around some fantastical elements. Think of it like, the Modern World being invaded by something supernatural. Would that be considered Realistic / Modern, or Fantasy?

Main reason I'm conflicted on this, is it's because the story's not necessarily a superhero story, nor is it a full-on fantasy setting. Sure, I might not include actual locations in the world, but it'll still have modern influences. I just need to make sure of this, so that I won't be as confused in the process of making this.

Thanks,

- K

If supernatural you mean ghost and demons, etc. It can definitely be listed as modern since people today believe in that stuff. But if you're going into fantasy like elves, dragons, kingdoms etc. Well.... it's fantasy.
Does that help?

If it's set in the real world during modern times but it has fantasy elements, then I would call it modern fantasy or contemporary fantasy. If the world is one you created yourself, then I feel like it's safe just to label it as fantasy.

Here's an overview of how RPN defines genres

Fantasy Roleplays containing fantastic or whimsical settings that are not grounded in real life. You can expect roleplays with magic, mythical creatures and worlds entirely unlike our own in this category. In other words if you are roleplaying in a world you made up entirely from scratch it's gonna be considered fantasy.

Futuristic
Roleplays containing settings with more advanced technology and societies than in real life. You can expect roleplays in this category to be associated with science fiction, space travel, cyberpunk, and extraterrestrials. In other words like fantasy this is largely a world you make up just in this case it has futuristic elements and can be loosely based on some distant version of our own planet.

Fandom
Roleplays containing pre-written or fan-created settings or characters of certain books, video games, movies or other franchises. In other words if your roleplay uses elements of some published work ( book/movie/videogame/etc.) it falls here

Modern/Realistic
Roleplays containing settings that are very similar to the real world. These settings still might have some minor fantasy or futuristic elements in them, but they are not the focal point of these roleplays. You can expect this category to be associated with games revolving around slice-of-life, historical fiction, detective dramas and superhero stories. In other words if your roleplay takes place in a version of the real world, whether that's set in a historic setting, a modern setting, or a setting with magic/super powers it would go here.

Thanks, all of you! I'll be sure to take this into account when I'm in the process of making the RP.
