Futuristic new earth

Nichole really didn't feel well. Maybe it was the lack of fresh air but she was probably never going to get that again. Her stomach felt strange and she just wanted to lie down. "Maybe I just need some sleep." She thinks to herself as she lays down in her bed as she drifts off to sleep.

Saphire, finally finding the library, walked in only to see Marcus. Her gaze, which had been almost peaceful, quickly morphed to the glare she wore when around other humans. "Oh, it's you. Morning." She quickly walked over to the shelves, trying to decide what to read, hands playing with one of the ends of her scarf absently.

He saw her walk in before she saw him, the second he heard the near silent food steps he knew who it was. What he wasent expecting was the almost peaceful look until he saw him. 'Did i do something to piss her off?' He thought to himself as he waved. "Decided to visit?" He asked.

"I'm bored. I told you that yesterday." She snapped at him, turning briefly to look at him before grabbing her selection. Still, she didn't have a clue where to sit, so she took the open seat next to him. At least he wasn't a total jerk, and truth be told? It was rare she found someone she could talk normally to. So, why not relish the treat while she had it? Though, she really should be keeping Captain Xobic safe... Nah. I'm still a bit miffed about yesterday. Can't believe I slapped him, though...

"Ow, harsh darling." He said in mock hurt before turning back to his book. The book was to kill a mockingbird and it seemed decently intent on it. However when she sat down next to him he asked. "What book?" He voice was semi curious semi straight lined.

Darling? "The Black Company. I never got to finish it." Her voice mild, for her, which meant she had slightly less ire in it than normal, she pointed to the set of nine or so books she had been looking at. "Surprised they had 'em, it's a bit old."

"Ah the black company i always found that series interesting." He smirked when she expressed surprise at them having the books. "Well this ship along with carrying the regular stuff is also carrying the best of what humanity has to offer. Art, great plays, not much in currency but items that are worth then any job you and me ever did. It makes sense the good books are here too."

"I suppose so." She looked unimpressed at most of the achievements of humanity. And indeed she wasn't. Though, that had more to do with humanity being the ones who did it than having to do with the achievements themselves. "At least some of humanity was worth their weight in life. I'm sure someone had to have been thinking enough to keep most of the textbooks and history lessons on board as well."

"Of course, even if they didnt ill remember it. The reason we are in this situation is because we dug our own hole, the past helps us learn from our mistakes. And right now we are the only ones who can learn from it." He said remembering for a moment they were the only ones left alive. "Humanity that was once in the billions could now fit into a single room, i wonder if there are something beyond the stars they laugh at out foolishness."

"The universe itself probably does." Saphire said, sighing just a bit. "We were a mistake, from the very beginning. All our history was comprised of people killing one another. And why? Because we wanted what the other guy had. Couldn't think of some other way of getting it, no. We had to invent murder, and make it a livelihood near impossible to escape from." The only things she'd ever seen people learn was when they went too far, like with the nuclear bomb. And even then they still had to keep the abominations around.

"Well then if there's one good thing about this is that maybe we can change it. Not so much the others, you and me and possibly the captain. All humanity has left when it comes to fighting is the 3 of us, sure we have scrolls from many martial arts on his ship along with some weapons but the only ones who know how to fight properly anymore is us 3. Even if someone took the scrolls and the weapons most likely they wouldn't be able to replicate it or know how it works. We will never be able to stop humanity from fighting, its all but in our blood. But if any of the future generations were to learn how to fight they would have to learn from us and our descendants, and maybe we can teach restraint. Though some would say that was just wishful thinking if they were still alive."

Saphire's head tilted. She'd never thought of that... if they could create a humanity where fighting wasn't the first reaction? To actually raise people to be like the protagonists in some of her favorite books? Just the slightest hint of hope sparked, only to be quickly snuffed out. "Even if we do it, there's no guarantee that the rest of our descendents will keep teaching it." The moment they took the way of thinking for granted humanity would begin it's downward spiral.

Xobic was getting bored he decided to go get a book at a library when he got there he saw Saphire and Marcus talking to each other"well what you guys talking about"

"If they dont ill come out the grave and in force it." He said with a chuckle that died into seriousness quickly. "Maybe, there's only 8 of us left, even before humanity became truly dominate there were more then a few 1000. Everyone on this ship control the future of humanity and if i see that one of them is gonna lead it on the wrong path." He says sighing. "Then ill remove them permanently. After all my soul is already stained enough, one more wont be a problem." He's silent for awhile then lets out and takes out a cig from his coat pocket. He had 10 of the last cigs in existence and he wasent planning to make anymore. "I have a feeling i could trust you however, youve seen the horror of war already." He lit the cigerate and looked up at the captain. "Just hoping we can change humanity's ways."

"let me guess all about the war.we want to stop it"he grabbed three books and set down in front of him

"I never want to hear about it again really, humanity first reaction has been to fight for a long time but i dont want that anymore. Nows the best time to make sure it doesent happen anyway, theres only 8 people left and only the 3 at this table know what it truly means to fight anymore. I know some of the geeks have weapons but they are different. Their not soldiers."

Saphire had sat quietly during the two's speech until this moment. "I personally only want humanity to stop this foolishness of murdering to take what the other has." It was ridiculous. Really. "If we could ensure that the skills passed on only to the worthy, those who would think before using their skills, then I wouldn't mind teaching them." The problem was how to tell which those were. If they even existed.

"I think I know a way we put them in a test the ones who want to talk it out are the worthy ones the ones who uses brute force or not if that is a good idea"

Saphire considered it. "It's certainly a good place to start. None of us are psychologists, so it's not like we'll know any other way." Was there even one on the ship? She didn't think so, though there was a student. If they had enough books on the subject she may look into it herself. Yes, that might be a more productive use of my time.

"Whatever happens thier needs to be a certain type of organization to humanity. I'm not even test a test would work, people can lie very easily. And if one person can learn about physiology another can learn how to lie to one. What is needed is some way to restrict maybe not fighting and self defense but the final means of war to one group. One big problem with humanity is that there were many nations creating war for what they wanted, we cant prevent that ethier because eventually we will expand into further city's and became not as close again creating a situation somewhat similar to the city states of Greece. What we need is have one group, a trust able group hold the final means of war in the open... But another must be able to keep watch of them so they dont abuse that power."

Saphire nodded. "So, something like in America, long before the decline?" She asked, thinking that was the closest that she'd seen in history. After all, not that many countries divided their power so well.

"America is possibly the closest example but even that is off slightly. In order to make war almost impossible to wage there will be to organizations. Also im speaking about far future though the bases of these organizations will need to come in this generation they wont have purpose until later. The first organization will be like the police, supposed to keep the peace and support what ever gov't is set up in the future. They will be public but drawing from a pool of people that can be trusted and in some ways kept separate to keep the techniques and weapons from spreading. Then comes the second group, they will be in the shadows and have no political functions or even validations of existence. But they are necessary to make sure the power isnt abused. This way the military is counter balanced."

Saphire nodded. "That might work. One united government, whatever that might become, and one military, both controlled from the shadows by a single, small group of highly-educated people." That might work... if they could ensure the prevention of corruption. It'd be nice if there wasn't money, but... well, that was a risk no matter what they did. I still don't think it'll work, with what humanity is like, but... it's probably our best bet. "We do need a way for the shadow group to be identified if they become corrupt. All humans can be corrupted." Easily, in her experience.
