News New Anti Spam Measures - Post Requirements

Hey All,


There has been many backend things tweaked to stop the wave of bots getting in.


However to help deal with spam created by humans the following things have set to require 10 posts and for the account to be on the site for 24 hours. Once you meet the requirements, it may take the system up to 30 minutes to give you the appropriate permissions

  • Starting new conversations
  • Setting a signature
  • Making profile posts
  • Gaining access to teamspeak

Sorry if I shouldn't be posting here but... how does this stop spambots? Don't spambots just post on new threads? Which is the only thing that doesn't have a prerequisite....
 
As long as it keeps the garbage out, I'm all for it.

The spam bot system is something else, this is to help deal with users who just make accounts to spam those systems.


Threads/Posts are easily controlled.

  • Viewing the chat

No, I think this feature all ready blocks your account from posting until you meet the requirements. It's all ready set in place, it's not like other rules that you need to "follow".

Ah, I assumed the things new bots can't access until 10 posts and 24 hours WERE the prerequisites on top of having 10 posts and attending the site for 24 hours. I got worried, since I have no plans of joining the teamspeak.

I might be in the minority here... but as someone who was very shy when I first joined RPn the SB and being able to message others for help is what really got me into the site and able to connect with people here. I understand the 24 hours wait completely but it might be harder for some of the shyer less out going members who are just getting used to the site to get those first ten posts. It might not happen to lot of people but thinking about some of the great people we have here on RPN who started out very shy I can't help but feel we'd scare some potentially great members.

This.... 100% this.... I don't typically like to use GD type forums unless I need to... and I just want to focus on looking for RPs... now I am kind of forced into a corner of spamming up 10 posts on the forums on different topics (I think i have gotten above 10 posts now but I don't think it is counting ones in the same topic)

Exactly, this one has an apparently good point. They are very agreeable


Edit: just wanted to do that. but really i thinl they have a good argument. I probably posted 2 things withing the first 3 days of being on rpnation
 
Sounds like a fair deal.


Sad to see a site so fine as this, be plagued with spambots. I haven't been on for a long time (actually, I just joined a few minutes ago xD ) but the site looks decent enough.
 
We had this setup on RPzone before the merger, and it seemed to work fine. I tend to be one of the shy ones myself, until I get to know a group, but it really didn't take all that long for me to get my 10 posts once I decided to try joining an RP instead of lurking. Simply posting interest on the couple of RPs I was looking at, and replying to questions thereafter, helped a lot.
