+ Resourceful/Adaptable- Owen can make anything out of anything, though he's usually working with garbage. Give him a sewing kit, a lighter, and a dumpster and he can make you a new outfit and a full meal in half an hour. Thanks to his talents he can survive about any situation you throw him into. He's like a cockroach- dirty and weak, but impossible to kill.


+ Laid-back- Maybe it's the drugs, maybe it's that he just doesn't care. But for the most part, Owen takes life as it comes. He has a generally mellow, slightly goofy personality that makes him seem approachable, if a little childish.


+ Tough- this is both physical and mental. While he isn't the strongest guy around he can take a beating and bounce back better than guys twice his size. And through a series of questionable coping mechanisms non-physical threats never keep him down for long.


+ Independent- Owen's been taking care of himself for as long as he can remember and he's not dead yet so he must be at least okay at it.


+ Adventurous- He'll try anything once. If it doesn't kill him, he'll keep doing it until it does.

Owen was born and raised in this neighborhood though that isn't something he's exactly proud of. The first child of two people who never liked each other all that much, he didn't have much of a chance from the beginning. His parents got married when they were still teenagers after his mother found out she was pregnant with him mostly because they didn't know what else to do and from the moment he was born Owen was just another headache. He was a difficult child, always crying and throwing fits and when he was old enough to leave the house alone he usually came back covered in dirt, bruises, and sometimes blood, both his own and other's. While his mother tried her best to give him a happy childhood, she always frail and she died shortly after giving birth to his younger brother. His dad wasn't much of a father, always drunk or gone, so Owen was mostly left to his own devices and he was a burnout by middle school, skipping class to smoke stolen cigarettes by the dumpsters and getting drunk off his dad's stash.


That was the first and only time Owen fell in love. Owen doesn't like many things, but he loves drugs in any form. He started out as a stoner, got an Adderall prescription he habitually abuses, and first tried heroin in 10th grade. He hung out with a sketchy crowd that gave him access to anything imaginable and he took full advantage of it. By the time he graduated by the skin of his teeth, he was a borderline junkie. He had no real plans for his future besides getting as far away from here as possible and was preparing to skip town when his dad was arrested. He's serving a twenty year sentence and since Maverick is a minor, he would've been put into a system. Out of some kind of loyalty or guilt, Owen manipulated the authorities into giving him custody of Maverick and is sticking around to let him finish school.


He'd been dealing since high school, mostly weed and the occasional pills, but once his dad got sent away he started doing it on a larger scale and is caught up in a moderately sized criminal organization because of it. For his day job he works in a pawn shop run by that same organization, selling stolen garbage to keep up appearances. Once he went full time, his own addictions only got worse. Before he was mostly chipping with occasional binges but now he's just a straight up heroin addict. Being able to get it cheap or even free if he's smart means he rarely has to be sober and as a result he can't remember the last time he was sober for more than a few hours. If he isn't high, he's probably at least a little drunk. He's high functioning enough that he can get through his day to day life but weekends usually end with him fucked out of his mind or nodding out in his bedroom alone.


The only thing keeping Owen in this town is Maverick. Owen is for the most part a selfish human being but if he has one soft spot it's for his little brother. Sure, he can be irritating and they may not always be super close but he's the only family Owen has that isn't dead or completely fucked up. And while Owen's written himself off as another in that long line of fuck-ups, he thinks Maverick can do better and wants to make sure he doesn't end up like him or their dad. So he's doing his best to raise him better than he was raised, even if he doesn't always do a great job of it. He tries to keep his criminal activities separate from his home life- he knows Maverick has at least some idea of his line of work as it's not exactly a secret around the neighborhood but he wants to keep him as uninvolved as possible.

Background:


Her mother and father had Dakota shortly after they both graduated highschool. They did the best they could to raise Dakota and juggle their drug habits at the same time. To this very day Grim hasn't got a clue as to why her father was murdered. She was three years old at the time and can't remeber a damn thing about him. From the way Dakota heard her mother talk about her father, it seemed as if he was a decent enough man.


Upon starting public school Grim was bullied those first few years. This is where she learned not to take shit from anyone. Grim was able to stop being victimized by becoming the bully. All throughout middleshcool and highschool Grim never had any friends, mainly because if you were in arms length you'd get used as a punching bag. As a freshman in highschool she descovered her undying love for cannabis.


Grim was at the age of 7 when her mother snapped. Presumably from not getting her fix of cocaine that she needed every hour, on the hour. Grim's beatings could've been over the simplest things or nothing at all. Regardless of what she was getting her ass beaten over Jolene always showed Grim an unbelievable amount of love afterwards. Once she was done getting rid of her anger she'd apologize to Grim and promise that she'd never do it again, Jolene never kept her promises. As a young kid/maturing adolescent this messed with Dakota's mentality and has caused her to be 'slightly' warped.

Background

Background: Dallas was raised in a family that wouldn't give a fuck about what he did. They would never be able to tell him 'no'. A lot of the reasons why Dallas has his addiction with stealing things for no reason in particular is due to this. His whole life he'd been trying to get someone to just say no to him, but it never happened. Dallas grew frustrated with his family's lack of care in what he did. He would go out at nights and never come back, perhaps going out on one night stands. Only because he wanted to say no. He would express to his parents about what he did but never got himself a scolding and he never had figured out why.


One night when Dallas was out he had took a glass from a china shop and broke it in front of the manager. When the manager ordered him to pay for it he aimed the gun at him. Really, the gun wasn't loaded and it was used for intimidation if anything. When the manager got a hold of the police the police had shot him. It wasn't enough to kill him, but it was one hell of a night.


He thought that this time his parents would finally give him what he deserved but he was wrong. They hadn't came to visit him at the hospital even. From that day Dallas didn't even bother with his parents anymore. He ran away from home and joined the group in hopes he would have a family that would do something right for once.
