  The year is 1980, the introduction of a new decade full of great victories and losses. A wave of new and improved technology is released, iconic video games created, and, most importantly, rising tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union as the Cold War continues to stretch on. What appears to be a never-ending conflict between the two powerful nations only grows worse as they clash through sports, politics, and international affairs. The United States government pushes to make preparations in case of all out war against the Soviet Union, going so far as to increasing their military power and intelligence agencies. However, it is never enough to quell the fear of invasion. It only gets stronger like a virus that has taken complete control over its host.
  
  Desperate measures must be made. A weapon is needed to subdue the enemy if it ever gets to such a scenario. But it cannot not be just any weapon. Everyone knows that the best way to overcome an enemy is to get into their minds.
  
  A series of laboratories were created back in the late 40s, not long after the Second World War, funded by both the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the National Security Agency (NSA). The purpose of their existence is to create such a weapon. But what can those weapons be exactly? The answer is humans that are able to "expand the boundaries of the mind". In other words, obtain psychic abilities. These abilities will allow the United States to gain an upper hand in warfare all while remaining in the comfort of their own lands. They will be able to gain intelligence without sending out spies and take out figures that pose a threat without sacrificing a number of their men. The possibilities are endless.
  
  But the question that now remains is: how does one achieve such a feat? What is needed to "expand the boundaries of the mind". The laboratories have spent the last two decades trying to figure that out, but to not much success. Only a small lab in a small town in rural Indiana called Hawkins was able to make some strides. The MKUltra Project had brought to them bizarre discoveries with great potential. There is still a long way to go with comprehending these findings but it is certain it could be one of two things. This could be the salvation they have been looking for, or the cause of their downfall.

  Hawkins is gaining attention from the United States government due to their recent discovery of humans with various psychic abilities. Some of them were a product of the ones involved in the MKUltra Project, while others remain to be unexplained phenomenon. Regardless of the reason for having acquire such powers, they have great potential of becoming the very weapons that are needed to fight against the Soviet Union. The only problem that poses a threat is keeping these experiments under control. These beings contain great power that can be both beneficial and disastrous. Anyone they turn against would be at a great disadvantage and the odds defeating them are very slim.
  
  So how does the head of the Hawkins National Laboratory keep them in check? The answer is by completely restricting access to the outside world. All of the test subjects have been there since infancy and know nothing else except what the lab tells and teaches them. This has made it much easier to control them as they continue to harness their skills for their future use by the government. These beings have no idea of where they are and what is out there beyond the security fences of the lab. And that was fine...for a while.
  
  Something else has caught the attention of the scientists in the lab. An abnormal electrical discharge keeps being detected without much explanation as to why. These discharges have caused either power outages or surges across parts of Hawkins. Since the lab is known as a base for the US Department of Energy to ensure their cover-up, they are also charged with looking into these strange occurrences.
  
  The head of the lab saw this as a perfect opportunity to try out his experiments to see if they are going in the right direction. He had some of his subjects use their abilities to search for the cause. Little did he know the devastation it would bring upon them. Contact was made but it quickly turned deadly as the subjects lost control and were psychically attacked by whatever they were interacting with. Not much could be done as one by one each subject lost their lives, their brains and eyes imploding from the stress of the contact. Before anything can be done, an inexplicable opening was made.   Telepathy: Users are primarily able to transmit information from one person to another through mental means. However, many other mind-based abilities fall under telepathy due to those powers overlapping with the core concept of telepathy. Some of the more common abilities also considered telepathy would be reading the thoughts of others at will and detecting the presences of other minds through extrasensory means. More advanced users can completely control the minds of their targets and manipulate their thoughts and emotions at will.   Illusion Manipulation: Users can create, shape and manipulate illusions/hallucinations, causing targets to see, hear, touch, smell, and/or taste things which do not actually exist or cause them to perceive things differently from what they truly are. While some users may only be able to alter the way they or the target is perceived, others can create complex and detailed images and worlds, place a target within simulated conditions and circumstances and accurately replicate a wide variety of different phenomenon and other effects. As such, illusions can either exist solely within the physical or mental perceptions of usually organic and sentient targets, or as external projections capable of occupying material space, like holograms and mirages.   Psychic Communication: The user is able to open a psionic communication line with another being, rendering them capable of having conversations with others using their minds. The user is able to open up channels of communications with others who may be incapable of physical speech by linking their minds.   Mind Control: The user can control the minds of others, including their thoughts, perceptions, memories, emotions and personality. Depending on the user's skill and power, this can range from a trance-like state very similar to hypnosis, to the target being completely subject to the user's control. A skilled user may be able to control the minds of multiple people simultaneously.   Clairvoyance: Users can acquire information using sight outside the normal range of detection about an object, person, location, or physical event. Usually, they can also do so without the aid of their vision, allowing them to act when they are unable to use their eyes. Users would be able to detect beings/entities normally completely undetectable, like spiritual and psychic beings. Additionally, they can perceive sights and visual sensations from other dimensions and from past events, future events, or locations that are currently outside the range of normal human senses or vision.   Astral Projection: User can project/separate their consciousness/presence/spirit, alternatively known as their astral form, from their material bodies, allowing for perception, interaction and travel independent of physical limitation. This state is usually achieved through entering a trance (via lucid dreaming or deep meditation), with the user gaining access or influence over the Mental and Astral Planes, as well as potentially other planes of existence, which can extend so enough as to allow the user to move and exist outside the limits of space and time using their astral form. Experienced individuals may be able to control both their astral and corporeal presences, allowing them to extend and project their astral selves without having to lose consciousness in their physical forms, as well as separate others from their physical forms to either to travel alongside them or to imprison them in an incorporeal state. In some cases, the ability can respond to the user’s thoughts and ideas, imagination, desires or belief in their abilities, something that could make the power harder or easier to activate, and in these cases, it is often more challenging to control.   one.

  This thread follows the story of the surviving test subjects in the Hawkins National Laboratory. They consist of twelve children between the ages of 12-15. Each child has their own unique psychic ability and are being trained to one day be used by the US government against their foreign enemies. However, their training takes a slight turn after a fatal discovery of what appears to be a gate for a dark alternate dimension.
  
  Each user will be allowed to play up to one test subject. Exceptions will be made once everyone has claimed a role and there are still some remaining. The powers assigned to the role are the only ones that character is allowed to have. If you have any questions about the ability and its range, please feel free to reach out to one of us for further clarification. Roles may be reserved (but only on the sign-up thread since this is an interest check).
  
  This thread will eventually take place outside the lab, and for that case every user is allowed to make as many characters as they wish to have outside of the roles listed. However, these characters will not be allowed to have psychic abilities since those are only reserved to the test subjects.

  The character roles will all be first come, first served. A role will be reserved for 72 hours but afterwards if there has been response or explanation the role will be reopened.

  A Discord server will be created for all plotting and character development. Please be respectful to one another and do not exclude others when plotting. If anyone expresses any rude and/or toxic behavior, they will immediately be kicked out.
  
  When discussing heavy topics that could potentially be triggering for other, please provide a warning in advance. We want to make this space as safe and inviting as possible, so please be mindful of others. And most importantly, have fun!

Please feel free to alert us if you have low muse or need more time to work on your responses. We are completely understanding and know you all have lives outside this thread as well as other threads to respond to. at first glance, number three is a quiet girl. she observes her surroundings and acts accordingly, however, that's only what she wants people to see. she wants to be seen as someone who is quiet and obedient, something that has never failed her in the past. when being observed she can often be seen as alone, a foot away from anyone else. a second before being watched she could have been laughing and spending time with someone, but the second she knows she's being noticed, she's quieter and distanced from those around her. in her mind, it's a form of protection. so used to having to conform to certain behaviors, three struggles with remembering that she's free to act as she wants. goofing off used to get her in trouble when it was time to work and perform during tests, so being able to do so now with those she grew up with is a new experience she's still trying to get used to.

when not putting on some sort of performance for others, three is actually a very social person. she's not very loud and boisterous, but she does enjoy being surrounded by others. she likes meeting new people and getting to know them, seeing new expressions as they experience different emotions. she likes to draw the people she meets and their facial expressions, finding herself learning more about how to act "normal" by doing so. she's a kind and caring, if not sometimes confused, soul. she wants to help others, but sometimes doesn't know how, other than to offer a shoulder to lean on. as someone who preferred to go along with what she was told to avoid punishment, she did her best to be a pillar of support for some of the others, often times willing to use her powers to create something to entertain those around her or to distract them from whatever horror they'd just gone through.

born meredith therese scott to jeremiah and elise scott, meredith was taken from the hospital soon after her birth, her parents having been told that she died due to complications. what made it so easy for the couple to believe is that there really had been complications during elise's pregnancy. she'd struggled to carry meredith to term, having spent many months in the hospital for the safety of her baby. or at least, that's what she thought. while originally yes, there had been a small scare, it was minor, but the scientists that were a part of mkultra saw a chance and took it.

they exaggerated some of elise's symptoms and encouraged her stay at the hospital where they could inject and monitor her. jeremiah and elise, having no medical or scientific background didn't question them, only thinking of the safety of their unborn child. so elise was often in the hospital and was given a concoction of drugs that would eventually lead to her daughter being born with unique and strange abilities.

once meredith was actually born and taken away from her parents by nurses, the doctors then proceeded to inform the couple that their daughter had passed. despite their best efforts, there were still too many complications and their daughter didn't make it. the two were heartbroken, stuck believing that everything they'd done was for nothing.

meredith, now christened number three, was immediately taken to the lab where she grew up surrounded by kids similar to her. as one of the oldest, three was used as an example during tests and other experiments. having not known anything other than the lab, she learned quickly that obedience meant fewer punishments. so she did her best to obey. for the longest time she did everything she was told without complaint, having seen what disobedience would get her. having experienced some forms of punishment for under performance herself, she never wanted to go through it again, but of course, it was inevitable.

as time passed and she grew older and became used to the routine, three found her own way to survive. she did the bare minimum that was required of her and spent most of her time putting up a front to try and protect herself and some of the others. anytime it seemed that some of them got too close, bad things tended to happen. so she distanced herself when needed, but when they had their own free time, she did her best to be someone the others could rely on.

she normally preferred to draw or paint, something that paired well with her abilities, but she enjoyed playing a game or just spending time with any of the others who just didn't want to be alone. she never forced her company on anyone, but she was always willing to be there if they needed. and if she ended up punished for it, well...there were worse things to get in trouble for.

It's not uncommon for him to chime into conversations with his comments and observations- of which he has plenty -often accompanied with a biting wit that can catch people off-guard. Six is clever and endlessly curious, picking up on new skills easily and stubbornly refusing failure. In conversation, he's equal parts snide and playful.

Six is ruled by his emotions and whims far more than logic. His compassion and empathy are both his greatest strength and greatest flaw. His surroundings and emotions can easily overwhelm him. Though it does not occur all the time, Six may fly into a fit of stressed anger, taking his overloaded emotions out on others and his environment. This only compounds his tendency towards insecurity and guilt. He is quick to apologize, often blaming himself when things go wrong, and is no stranger to spontaneous tears. It is easy to take advantage of this sensitivity to get him to comply, even if his own morals oppose a request. Because of his ongoing struggles with emotional regulation, Six can come across as guarded and nervous. Don't be shocked if he gets snippy at the first note of pity or condescension.

The youngest of the subjects, Six is still very much a kid despite his aloofness and intensity. He has been raised on a decently limited vocabulary, brought up with the sole purpose of serving the lab, which can make him appear even more naive than he already is. He enjoys games, gets hyper, and goofs off if the situation allows for it. Although this isn't so much an issue in the lab, Six is distinctly lacking in social awareness, and tends to approach every situation with complete earnestness. After all, there's never a need to deceive or manipulate anyone in the lab.

Six was born in 1968, legally Ryan Bennett, to parents Robert and Laura Bennett. Robert was a member of the CIA and his wife had recently found out she was pregnant. After a visit to the doctor warned them that Laura had a rare genetic disorder that could affect the child, Robert's superior offered to pull some strings to provide the couple with an experimental prenatal treatment that would help. Unbeknownst to the couple, this "treatment" was active participation in a sect of MKUltra focusing on pregnant women. Laura reported strange side-effects of this treatment, including heightened senses, deja vu, auditory and visual hallucinations, and precognitive-like abilities. Laura died a few hours after the birth due to "unforeseen complications" and Robert reportedly skipped town in devastation, his car later found drowned in a nearby river. The newborn Ryan went into the adoption system as there was no close or living family. Of course, the reality was that a certain part of the CIA had engineered the whole thing from the beginning to get their hands on Ryan. He was promptly handed over to the Hawkins lab.

Six believes he was given to the lab after his mother's death and his father's subsequent refusal to raise him. He has grown up blissfully unaware of the horror inherent in his circumstances, accepting all the sterility of the lab and the harshness of the orderlies with a nod and a smile. After all, he had no comparison to anything else, and- with his amicable personality -rarely found himself at odds with the rules. However, as more pressure was put on his reign over his abilities, his happy-go-lucky attitude began to crumble. The void his mind wandered to when he remote viewed became suffocatingly empty and frightening as he began to associate it with cold commands, pressure from the head of the lab, and punishment or admonishment when he failed. Six grew more and more nervous, which only served to weaken his abilities. Though eventually he learned to reign in his anxieties long enough to suffer through a viewing session, if only to avoid being put into isolation. This coping mechanism would quickly turn for the worse, leading Six to go between moments of focused repression and bouts of unregulated emotions. His inability to control his own stress and fear would gradually evolve into anger issues that he continues to struggle with.

Early on in the testing of Six's capabilities it became clear that trying to describe his viewings during a session was not always a full enough picture. Thus, Six's education began to focus on allowing him the best chance of accurately conveying his visions. He was assigned exercises that increased his observational and recall skills. Educating Six in any normal sense fell to the wayside in favor of his effectiveness as a tool. It would seem then that Six's emotional nature is a terrible fault that the lab would prefer to weed out of him. A strictly logical and rational mind would serve their purposes much better. This is why so much of the manipulation and punishment directed at Six is focused on discouraging sentimental thought.

As the youngest of the subjects, the lab has had plenty of time to test out conditioning and teaching on their other subjects. Because of this, Six has one of the stricter courses of living at the lab as the scientists use everything they've learned to improve their methodology on the nurturing of Six.

six has a near perfect memory owing to years of training and methods taught to him to foster this ability. It is not eidetic or photographic memory, either, but rather a disciplined use of mnemonics and techniques such as the "mind palace" or "peg system." While he is no artist, he is pretty decent at drawing quick, observational sketches. Six also has a passion for technology. Sure, he doesn't have lots of access to the stuff, but he has been provided manuals to identify certain tech within his sessions. Due to his enjoyment of technology, he has been given a small assortment of broken pieces to take apart and put back together.

Six's anger issues stem from the brainwashing of the lab encouraging a lack of emotional responses. Six is an innately emotional kid, lending to him having never truly learned how to handle his feelings in a healthy way. His lack of an extensive vocabulary or social skills also makes it difficult to even talk about his frustration with his peers. Perhaps the lab is even hoping Six will reach a mental breaking point where he can be truly reprogrammed to be the perfect human camera. His anger is mostly focused inward on himself, although there are rarer moments when it bubbles over into outward expressions or him yelling at people or breaking something. He always feels exceedingly guilty and shameful if this happens.

Ten is a smooth-talking socialite who excels at getting others to open up to him. A remarkably relationship-oriented individual, he converses with others in a way that induces an automatic lowering of guards, talking enough so that others feel comfortable in his presence, while also listening enough to ensure that they feel heard. Ten is highly attuned to others' needs and is often aware of them before the person in question is. When this happens, his companion should be prepared to receive one of his health interrogations as to whether they've been eating and sleeping enough. Genuinely warm and empathetic, he can adapt himself as needed to fit in with the general vibe or aura of the room he's in.
That's not to say he necessarily will, though. Ten is no pushover, and amid all of his good-natured caring, he has a certain obstinate moral code that he's willing to fight for. If something rubs him the wrong way, a switch will flip inside him, and his transformation from slick charmer to sharp-tongued demon can be astonishing in its suddenness. This boy has a backbone, for which he has a certain level of notoriety among the staff of Hawkins Lab. Being older than all of his psionic peers, Ten has assumed a protective role over them. If a scientist tries to conduct tests on an unwilling child subject, Ten won't just sit passively by, and he's not above using his own abilities to give the children's abusers a taste of their own medicine. Contrary to what a lot of the staff thinks, he's not doing it for the attention or just to be defiant; his motivations are selfless, and afterward he would rather accept whatever punishment is coming his way than have the weight of letting his adoptive brothers and sisters suffer on his conscience.
Ten doesn't like the cold sterility of the lab. Anything grounded in impersonal, detached logic is off-putting to him. He's not averse to logical analysis; rather, he feels it's unromantic to look at life divorced from relationships with others. A highly social creature, he believes a solitary life is a pointless one. For all of his saccharine caring and empathy, Ten is perhaps surprisingly responsible. While he loves fun and games, he is capable of getting it together, so to speak, and making sure that assignments gets done. He uses his diplomacy skills to smooth over ruffled feathers and promote teamwork, and when diplomacy doesn't work, he'll use call-outs and force on bullies. Anyway, Ten works best in a routine, predictable environment and excels at moderating. He has a very good understanding of norms, social and otherwise, and can easily spot when something or someone deviates from a norm. Because he's so detail-oriented and attuned to cues, he can usually spot when someone is lying to him. Sometimes this bothers him, but Ten himself is willing to tell a few white lies to spare others' feelings, so he even has some empathy for deceivers.
Undyingly loyal to his surrogate family, Ten regularly chooses loyalty over justice. In other words, his decisions stem from what would help his people rather than what's necessarily the right or moral thing to do by society's standards. Steal a leather jacket from a department store because his friend is cold? You got it. Break into a stranger's house and raid their pantry because the group is hungry? Hell yeah. Ever heard that phrase about the road to hell being paved with good intentions? Well, one of the darker parts of Ten's personality is that he believes unjust deeds can yield good results. Accordingly, he is willing to get his hands dirty and take one for the team if violence is the only answer. Ten is fascinated with conflict and scandal, and when life is too boring at the lab, he's prone to spicing it up with gossip. Sometimes he talks too much and makes an honest mistake, but other times it's a calculated, catty move, the way he wields information like a weapon against someone who's provoked him. Because he radiates such magnetic charm, he's always in the know about what's going on in the lab. Ten's birth name was Jinrhu Goro (last, first). He was born in the city of Sapporo, Japan to upper middle class parents Chiyo and Hideki, both of whom worked in the booming television industry. Goro had an older brother named Yukio, and both boys, heeding their parents' encouragement to always strive for greatness, were training to become competitive cyclists. Yukio and Goro were close, on good terms with one another, but their relationship was fueled by competition that ranged from friendly to not-so-friendly depending on the day. Yukio, however, had more of a natural aptitude for the sport. He was a quick learner and had superior strength and endurance. Nonetheless, when their coach would treat the boys to ice cream for good performances (mostly Yukio's), he would always share with Goro no matter what. As their parents were frequently busy with work, Yukio arranged most of the brothers' daily lives, including helping Goro with schoolwork when needed (particularly English) and packing him lunches. Eventually the boys promised to go to international cycling tournaments as a brother duo.
While Goro was by no means a bad cyclist, due to Yukio's superior intellect, memory, and physical abilities, he was outperformed by his older brother in every way. The only thing Goro could do better was painting, from which he derived a fond but casual enjoyment, and at which Yukio was abysmal. But these boys had their hearts set on being athletes, and more often than not, Yukio would finish a race in first place, while Goro was merely above average. In response Goro insisted on trying to imitate his older brother's more advanced techniques, even when their coach told him that he wasn't ready. Furthered by the fact that Yukio was more capable in everyday life too, Goro's jealousy evolved into a toxic mindset where he wished to, essentially, become Yukio or die; there was no point in being anything lesser, in living in the shadow of his brother's greatness for eternity. Self-pity constantly plagued Goro's mind, and he even convinced himself that no one would miss him if he died. Very soon this outlook degenerated into full-fledged suicidal depression.
During the summer after Goro's first year of middle school, when he was twelve years old and Yukio fourteen, the stress accumulated into Goro running away from Yukio after a particularly discouraging training session. Not paying attention to where he was going and not caring, Goro darted across one of Sapporo's busiest streets in the middle of traffic. Seeing the impending accident before it happened, Yukio chased him and pushed Goro out of the way of the car that would have hit him. This act of heroism caused Yukio his life and he was dead in the street even before Goro had time to look and register what had happened.
In the coming weeks, Goro's crippling depression worsened courtesy of survivor's guilt. He believed that he caused his brother's death and stole Yukio's dream, and he wanted desperately to take Yukio's place in order to continue his legacy of being an uncontested cyclist and a perfect person. Goro's parents forced him to attend therapy sessions, where he repeatedly expressed these aspirations to his therapist. After several sessions of minimal to no progress, Goro's therapist convinced Jinrhu Chiyo and Hideki that conventional methods of treatment were ineffective on their son. Because hope of curing him was so dim, they would have to turn to turn to an experimental treatment. With no other option, Goro's parents agreed to the experimental treatment even when Goro himself was apathetic to the subject. In preparation of the treatment, he was placed in a rehabilitation clinic.
Shortly after, Goro's parents were informed that their son had, very regrettably, followed through on his plans to commit suidice before the treatment could be conducted. A note was forged and DNA evidence compiled and everything. It was convincing, the show that had been staged. Goro, still living, remembers nothing of the experimental treatment that he received inside the clinic. In fact, on the other side of it, he remembers nothing of ever being Goro at all. This whole time, he had been born and raised as Jinrhu Yukio, child prodigy and upcoming legendary athlete, who for all his gifts had been unable to save his little brother Goro when he'd been struck down by a car. He had watched Goro die in the street on the day that had changed everything.
"Yukio" was told by his therapist that they did not have adequate resources to begin his treatment at the current clinic, after all. He would have to be transferred to another one, one that had superior technology and was reserved for special cases such as himself. This made perfect sense to Yukio, having known that he was a special case all his life. Transportation to this new facility would be time-consuming, and to ensure that he did not give in to his depressive impulses before his arrival, Yukio was heavily sedated for the whole trip. When Yukio awoke, he did not find his therapist. In fact, he did not find anyone speaking Japanese whatsoever; rather, everyone ate their food with gleaming pieces of silver and extended their right hands to him upon introduction, which was in English. The English itself wasn't a problem; Yukio had gotten straight A's through English and had even mentored his little brother. But when Yukio told these English-speaking doctors his name, they dismissed it and called him "Ten" the foreign word for the Japanese number jū. Thus began his life at Hawkins Lab, and unbeknownst to Yukio at the time, he had already performed his first successful mind exchange, the power for which he was being trained.
Yukio quickly became popular among the other children, almost all of whom have been there far longer than him, some since birth. Despite being Japanese, Yukio was a source of knowledge for many of them about the outside world, and though many of his pop culture references were lost on his peers, they came to adore Yukio for his spellbinding storytelling ability. And when Yukio realized that he was not allowed to leave Hawkins Lab and would remain there indefinitely, these weird shells of kids became his new family. In place of the shattered remnants of the one into which he had been born.

Outwardly, Oskar appears to present himself as how is is naturally: a friendly, care-free jokester with little else going on his brain. The reality of the matter isn't entirely unlike that; Oskar truly is a friendly person to those he deems worth it. However, he's the sort of person with highly guarded walls around him and hasn't gotten all that close with more than one or two people (author note: would be up to talking about possible connections regarding who he's close with!) and has kept his other relationships highly impersonal, probably making getting anything beyond surface-level vague interests a challenge similar to pulling teeth.

He likes to keep the image of the lazy, comedic sort because it's simply easier than being taken easily. At his core, he's an extremely intelligent, driven teen with anxiety and a need for perfection in most things. He's easily frustrated when things don't go his way and extremely protective of other test subjects, even if he doesn't show it often. It mainly manifests in him trying to take the attention off of them whenever something happens; if one of the others were to make a mistake bad enough to warrant harsh actions from the lab, he'll do one further under the guise of being clumsy and a bit of an idiot, trying his best to redirect the ire towards himself instead. If he thought he could win or got annoyed enough, he'd likely resort to physical violence or using his abilities in a violent manner, but has held himself back from that so far.

He has a hatred of authority stemming from that of the lab and is highly untrusting of people in any position of power. He's highly untrusting in general, even in a manner regarding the other subjects; he's very much of the idea 'if you want something done right, do it yourself'. Even if he has miraculously come to the conclusion that someone isn't out to get them, its a completely different thing to allow them off to do important tasks that affect him in some way without them being under his supervision. His need for that sort of control isn't from a place of manipulative behavior and is more of his anxieties manifesting in him always seeing the worst outcomes of situations.

Despite his friendly outward demeanor, he doesn't often go out of his way to interact with others. If they make the first move to interact with him, he'll likely be open to it, but otherwise he keeps to himself. If he seeks someone out, either he's keeping an eye on them subtly or trying to put himself in a position to intervene in any upcoming problematic situations.

One thing is certain: One hates being a rat in a maze, and when he gets out? He'll do everything in his power not to go back.

One is the oldest and, unsurprisingly, the one that has been there the longest, even if only by a little bit. The star child of the project- or the failure, depending on who you talk to. Born to Tiago and Clara Gomes as Oskar Gomes, it wasn't long until he was whisked away to the labs on account of 'being special'. There was little his parents could do about it; when the government wants your child, its not long until they'll have their way. Thus, for the entirety of his 15 years of life, One has grown up in the labs and known little else other than what he was told.

It was fine, at first. He actually listened and, god forbid, tried his best to follow the rules and please the people testing him. He showed the full strength of his powers at the time and continued to do his best. However, this didn't last. It didn't take long until he became completely disillusioned with the entire thing and, further, against it. He stopped doing his best in testing, instead putting his effort towards being mediocre. In a way, this sort of control strengthened his abilities, but there were few (if any) who saw it that way. Sure, he was the first to be introduced to the program, yet clearly not the best if he 'wasn't improving'.

He prefers that, really. Considers it better than the lab having all the information on him. It's a small victory; after all, his abilities are really all his has to his name in a place that gives him virtually nothing, so he's not keen on giving that up. He imagines someday getting out, but so far has kept his expectations low and deemed the thoughts only fantasies in order to not be disapointed by the reality of the situation.

Anxiety and anger/frustration issues make up his mental problems. On the physical side, he has a bad right leg that has been known to give out at times. When he's tired, his head tilts to the left side (which is not as strong as his right) without his knowledge, and his hands have been known to shake and have spasms.

Quirks & Habits

One is never idle. When he speaks, his hands move all around in an animated manner. Even when he isn't talking, he's been known to shake out his hands repeatedly without even noticing, seeming to be working off nervous energy. He has a tendency to twist his fingers in weird ways absentmindedly as well as bounce his knee when sitting and pace when standing. Eleven is not afraid of the future. In fact, she's come to despise it. The whole "progression of time" thing starts to lose its meaning when you can foresee what's to come. To Eleven, she herself is the most unpredictable thing around her. As such, she can be a bit of a loner when it comes down to social situations, preferring solidarity over mindlessly navigating a situation she most likely saw coming. She can come off somewhat cold to those she's less close with, but she never means any disrespect. After all, they've all gone through similar treatment for years, and that's got to count for something.

There are few exceptions to Eleven's antisocial behavior {a/n: connections!}, though those she's close with will notice she can be loyal to a fault. She's one to risk her life if necessary for those she truly cares about, even sometimes throwing herself into unnecessary situations to protect someone close to her. Even so, Eleven isn't often the impulsive type. With all the time she spends away from people on top of her ability to see into the future to a degree, she prefers to strategize most of what she does. Although this mindset can lead to carefully thought out and executed plans, it can also lead to a disastrous amount of overthinking, sometimes resulting in an anxiety buildup and spiraling into panic attacks centered on the idea of a relatively "bad" future... or more so a bad way of getting to that future.

Michelle Cooper, more recently known as Eleven, was born to Susan Cooper, a single woman wracked with poverty. To scrape together whatever cash she could, Susan found herself working in the slums, selling herself to make a living. By the time she realized she was pregnant, the father was probably long gone. Despite her tight situation, Susan decided to keep the baby, dropping her occupation to find some way of supporting herself and her unborn child. That's when she was offered a deal that was seemingly too good to be true-- Project MKUltra, where they promised to pay her well and support both Susan and her child. Unbeknownst to her at the time, the project would go on to put Susan through extensive testing, and while it did pay decently, it would eventually cost Susan much more than she bargained for.

Susan was tested throughout her pregnancy, often heavily drugged to a point of intense amnesia. Without full knowledge of really anything that was going on around her, she didn't have the whereabouts out get out of her situation. This continued even after she gave birth to her daughter, Michelle Cooper. The current wellbeing and whereabouts of Susan Cooper are unknown. Michelle was immediately put up for adoption, a staged act to get her adopted by lab officials and shipped off to none other than Hawking Lab-- a front for yet another branch of the very same project her mother was involved in.

Upon arrival, she was given the name, or more so title, Eleven. As soon as the lab possibly could, they began her training to develop special abilities gained from a sort of "success" in project MKUltra. Eleven in particular was honed to see the future. Of course, such a skill would be exciting for most children, though for Eleven it was all she ever knew. A peek into the future, however draining, would often show the same bleak walls of the lab. Day in and day out, the future was confined to sterility and lab coats. Perhaps a peek into the future would show an upcoming conversation, or the upcoming tests she would endure. Growing up in a world where the next interaction is to be expected, the next surprise spoiled, the next game's outcome undone, Eleven would come to hate her gift, and to hate the lab that keeps her tied to it.

Anxiety

Despite the hatred she has for her gift, Eleven grew up using it constantly. While she's come to hone it decently well, she has also found herself becoming unfortunately reliant on her ability. Eleven developed anxiety around not knowing what's to come, resulting in a habit of strategizing and overthinking to fill in the gaps of what she couldn't see. When he anxiety has gotten particularly bad, she's gotten to the point of overusing her powers, ending up in the infirmary or on bedrest for days following the incident. Even when the future mostly holds tests and labcoats, she can't help but take a peek... just in case.

HedwigNerd I appreciate the offer but would feel bad making you do that because that would drastically alter your character's history and I love Eleven just the way she is. It's much easier for me just to change the name/number of my character.

Edit: Or, this is a little complicated, but maybe what we could do is create a timeline of when our characters were introduced to the lab and then reassign numbers accordingly. For instance, if Six is only 12 years old, is that going to create a plot hole if for instance Eight, Nine, and Eleven are all older than him and were given to the lab close to birth? An easy way to do this is perhaps add "Date of Lab Entry" to everyone's forms.

imo, it also might be possible to say that if your character showed up later but has an earlier number, perhaps the lab is using a limited set of numbers and whoever new coming in is potentially Replacing a failed experiment? and therefore getting assigned their old number? or that they ultimately are randomly assigned
