    Necromancer's Moon
by The Dark Wizard The Dark Wizard & Gilzar Gilzarā€‹

Everyone in the site is welcome to participate and vote. This quest remains open

Necromancerā€™s Moon is a Quest, a vote on the adventure type of roleplay where everyone on the site is welcome to cast a vote and discuss whenever it comes up and once the votes are tallied each time, Gilzar or myself will reply with a post detailing the results and consequences of your actions. Normally in this part of the pitch we give you the characterā€™s name and backstory but this is all stuff you will get to vote on. The premise of the roleplay is that you are all a master necromancerā€™s student in the Kingdom of Roudia, trying to make your way through your masterā€™s various lessons and tasks.

Starting out, we find our heroes in the Tomb of the Vale. Hundreds of years ago, this ancient ruin is where the heroes of the land were once buried and celebrated. Times have long since changed, however, and the tomb is now a research site for the local school of magic. Master necromancer, Shayla the Whisper, has a vested interest in finding the hidden vaults scattered throughout the ruins. These vaults contain knowledge and special artifacts that could prove useful for her experiments. Meanwhile, her student has been assigned to practice in his magical skills.

    Sedrel makes his first choice
  • ā€œSedrel, where are you?ā€ called out Master Shayla as she examined intricate lettering and pictures carved into an ancient stone wall. She had a vested interest in these depictions, as it was her belief that they contained the locations of hidden rooms inside the tomb, locked away from the rest of time.

ā€œRight here masterā€ expressed Sedrel as he hastily came around a corner, for the tomb had many tunnels and pathways. It was not wise to keep master Shayla waiting, as she was a busy woman.

Shayla placed her pale hand on the wall to keep track of where she was, before turning to her anxious student. ā€œSedrel, do me a favor and go find Emile and Bradyn, I sent them down to the dig site deeper in the tunnels and they havenā€™t returned yetā€¦ā€

He wondered if giving the two younger students a task like that was wise. There were many potential risks in these old ruins that could harm them, or tarnish the ancient artifacts scattered about. In all likelihood, the two were just goofing around somewhere while they were away from Shaylaā€™s eyes. Sedrel would not voice this however, as it wouldnā€™t be wise to cast such criticisms to such an accomplished necromancer.

Instead, he did as his master ordered, walking down the tunnels toward the dig site. As he walked, each step on the stone-tiled floor echoed down the tunnels, reminding him of how alien this section of the tomb was to him. For comfort, he grabbed tightly around his book he had stored away in his bag. Heā€™d never been this deep in the tomb before. There was a strange feeling in the air around him from the damp air of the tunnel, one that cast a cold aura of loneliness over him. Nothing had been down here in centuries, not until recently anyway.

Just then, after a few minutes of walking, something caught Sedrelā€™s eye. There was an interruption of some sort in the bleak pattern of the grey brick walls. He stopped, and examined it closer. At this distance he could see that there were illustrations and writings carved into the walls, similar to the oneā€™s master Shayla was looking at earlier. Now that he was far out of her sight, he wondered if he should take a closer look at the inscription, or continue down the hallway as told?

    What should Sedrel do?

[ ] Take a moment to look at the Inscription
[ ] Continue down the hallway to look for Emile and Bradyn

    What to do!?!
  • Sedrel decided it was best to examine the inscription. Perhaps it would contain some useful information about the tomb. Walking close to the markings, Sedrel moved his face close to the wall, looking closely at the lettering. Over the past few months, Master Shayla had taught him how to decipher this old kingdom writing. Running his fingers under the text he began to decipher it. It took a minute or two, but eventually he was able to make out the text. It read:

ā€˜HONOR BE TO OWAIN THE BRAVEā€™

Owain the brave? Just who could that be? Sedrel wondered this as he examined the picture inscribed below. Time had withered it away, but it looked to be of a figure bearing a sword of some sort near a serpent of some sort. He tried his hardest to get a better look, but no matter what angle he examined it he couldnā€™t make it out. Just after a few more minutes, he gave up and decided to press on.

Walking down the tunnel, Sedrel wondered just how much time he spent examining that inscripting. Digging into his pocket, he pulled out his reliable pocket watch. When he sprung it open, he had made a startling discovery: Three hours had passed since he first began to walk down the tunnel. Immediately his breaths increased in a panic. In his mind he wondered just what could have happened during that time. Did Shayla see him not doing his duty? Could it be possible that Emile and Bradyn walked by him, and were no longer near the dig site?

In his panicked state, Sedrel sprinted down the hallway. His feet cluttered loudly against the floor each time he slammed a foot into the ground to pick up speed. Following the signs left by the others, he hastily made his way over to the dig site. To Sedrel it felt like he had run for an hour to get there, but in reality it was only a few minutes.

In front of him lay the dig site, with a long rope ladder leading down. It was a square room covered in dirt that had only recently been unearthed. Roughly 30 feet below him laid the bottom of the dig site. As he was catching his breath, he could make out some sort of foul odor coming from below. Just what it might be was unknown. It smelt like some sort of dead animal, but for all he knew it could have just been an unearthed vault filled with ancient corpses.

Sedrel lowered himself down the rope ladder carefully. Each step he lowered himself with shook the entire latter, making him go down at a much slower rate than he desired. Someone hadnā€™t taken the time to secure the bottom of the ladder After a good minute of wrestling with the unsecured ladder, his feet finally made contact with the loose dirt flooring.

The bottom of the pitt, where Sedrel now stood was dark. Far too dark to see any farther than just a few feet.

ā€œEmile, Bradyn!ā€ Sedrel called out into the darkness. ā€œWhere are you?ā€

His voice echoed down what seemed like a long and empty corridor. For a moment he stood in silence, waiting for any kind of a response. But there was nothing, only a lonely silence. An uneasy feeling wedged itself into Sedrelā€™s gut. If anyone was down here, surely they would have heard his voice, if not his loud panting and footsteps from before. Looking around for any source of lighting, he miraculously was able to locate a torch stashed near the latter. It only took a moment or so, but he was able to light the torch and illuminate the area around him.

In front of him was a brick wall, with a large gaping hole in the middle, emitting a foul ordor. Aside from the ladder behind him, this was the only other path down in this pit. Reluctantly, Sedrel decided to press forward into hole. Entering through the gap, his torch illuminated a new room. The stench was now more powerful than before, and the further he went into the room, it was almost becoming unbearable. Just as he was wondering what the stench could be, he unfortunately found his answer.

Lying just 5 feet in front of him were the outline of two bodies scattered across the ground. Sedrelā€™s heart sank. For a moment or so he froze up. His body felt stiff and cold, and his legs shook in fear. Could it be? Noā€¦.it couldnā€™t! Nothing dangerous was in this tomb! The mages spent days ensuring this entire tomb was safe before students could enter...what could possibly do something like this?

Sure enough though, with a better look he could make out the long red hair of Emile, and the bright blonde hair of Bradyn. He wanted to scream, but that wouldnā€™t do any good. All that was left now was decide what his course of actions should be.

    What should sedrel do?

    [ ] Hide!
    [ ] Loot the corpses.
    [ ] Investigate the bodies.
[ ] Run and report to the master!

    Ambush
  • Sedrel fell back on the ground from the pure shock of what he had just found, his heart thumping hard in his chest, ready to burst and break out of its fleshy cage. He sat back on his knees, getting closer. ā€œEmileā€¦.Bradyn..noā€ was all he could mutter as he put his hands to his face in shock. He had worked with bodies, bones and other manner of things that could be considered unsavory or gross, after all he was a Necromancerā€™s student, but finding the young students...like this here, it was awful. He forced down his gag reaction and attempted to investigate the bodies, turning them around.

The least he could do now was at least figure out what happened. Looking over their cold, lifeless figures, it didnā€™t take long to come to a conclusion. Deep cuts could be seen all across their torsos and parts of their heads. Upon closer examination, it became evident that holy energy was still emanating from these wounds...they were smited.

Sedrelā€™s stomach filled with dread. Only one order utilized holy magic to smite, and that was paladins...but what were they doing here? Paladins were an order dedicated to destroying the evil in the world. Magic users have worked along their side for years. Even necromancy, though frowned upon by their ranks, was still safe from their wrath.

His thoughts were, without warning, interrupted. From behind one of the nearby tombs, there was a distinct rustling noise, followed by a fanatical shout.

ā€œBy the will of the gods, the heretics will be slain! Death to the magic users!ā€

The distinct sounds of metal being drawn out quickly filled the room, and before Sedrel knew it he was surrounded by three sword-wielding men. They had on fine chainmail that glistened in the torchlight, adorned with golden amulets and trinkets. These were paladins, there could be no mistake about it.

ā€œYouā€™re not Shayla the Whisper!ā€ One of them shouted out in frustration. ā€œItā€™s just another damn apprentice!ā€

ā€œWhereā€™s your forsaken master, boy?ā€ Another questioned loudly.

    [ ] Fight.
    [ ] Attempt to run.
[ ] Tell them where Master Shayla is.
[ ] Lie about where Master Shayla is.
