Personality: Stubborn and prideful, Yuma is bound to butt heads with the other crew while trying to keep everyone safe. She has quite a long fuze, but once it's gone it takes a while for her to settle back and relax. Other than anger once things have gone too far, she shows few emotions and reacts in quite the same way to a lot of things which often comes off as cold and uncaring. On the inside though, she is very much caring and ready to listen to the crew, and might sometimes need someone to listen to her if she ever opens up to them.

Name: Okumura Saki (奥村 紗希)

Personality: Those who had served with Lieutenant Okumura would describe her as talkative and friendly, and indeed she is on the more friendly spectrum amongst Japanese people who had a reputation of reclusiveness, appearing rather quiet, and in some cases cold, to strangers. This personality came from her upbringing in New Osaka, a floating city populated by residents and their descendants from the old Osaka city, not only did it retained the casual atmosphere of the “merchant’s capital”, numerous historical sites also present, with the original material being evacuated and rebuild, brick by brick, piece by piece. Such sites includes Osaka Castle, Hokoku Shrine, Sumiyoshi Taisha Temple, Shitennoji Temple, Tenmangu Shrine, etc, marking the landscape of the new floating city.

Born as the third child and only daughter of a merchant family, Saki was of significantly smaller stature than her brothers, but showed an early aptitude for mathematics as well as great skill with tasks that relied upon manual dexterity. While attending secondary school, Saki took a job at a local event that featured an aerial display that included 1MF Type 10 bi-planes as well as the brand new Mitsubishi Experimental 9-Shi Single Seated Fighter monoplane (九試単座戦闘機) (the predecessor of A5M, designed by Horikoshi Jiro, who later designed the Zero fighter).

Having been enamoured with aviation since she was a little girl by listening to stories of early aviation pioneers such as Ninomiya Chuhachi, after the pilots landed and came for refreshments, Saki greatly impressed the squadron leader, Genda Minoru, with her knowledge of aviation, engines, and aerodynamics. She was invited by the naval flying officer for entrance test in the “Hiko yoka renshu-sei”(飛行予科練習生), or “Yokaren”(予科練), the Naval Aviator Preparatory Course Trainee program to recruit volunteers between age of 14 to 20. The competition was fierce, at her year a quota of 50 was set out of 7,500 applicants for pilot training, chances was around 1/150. Saki did not make the cut, however her passion for naval aviation had been ignited, and when she was determined on something, she cannot easily be deterred.

After going back to finish High School, Saki went on to the Imperial Japanese Naval Academy (海軍兵学校). During her time there she earned a blue belt in judo. After graduating from the Naval Academy (ranking 102 out of 241 Cadets) and being appointed an ensign (少尉), Saki enrolled in the Aviation Student (飛行学生) Course. She finished her naval aviation training and finally gained her wings as a flying officer herself.

Mannerisms: She likes to crack her knuckles when she reads books, as if she wants to pick a fight with the paper or something.

Personality: Ayano is a bit of a mixed bag. She can be quite spirited and energetic, always wearing a beaming smile and cracking jokes, but at the same time, she can be very lazy. She often tends to avoid work when she can, coming up with easygoing excuses and brushing it off like it's no big deal. That being said though, she is skilled and more dedicated to her role than she lets on. If she does slack off, she knows she's able to, either because she's already done everything but lets on that perhaps she might not have, or that she has things handled well enough that there wouldn't be any problems. Ayano is also a big foodie. She enjoys all kinds of food and doesn't much care for quality. The only thing she can't get behind, however, and will adamantly refuse, is anything that has been pickled.
Mannerisms: She hums to herself when working. She also has a habit of twirling tools in her right hand when she's lying.

Name: Nanami Chiyako (七海 千弥子)

Personality: Born in Kurahashi Island in Hiroshima Bay, Kurahashi-jima is part of the islands group known as Geiyo Islands in the Seto Inland Sea. Chiyako was the third of four daughters, her father, Nanami Shunsaku was a sea captain who owned a shipping company that transported cargo between Kyoto and Kinei, as well as West Japan and the Korean Peninsula. Thanks to the deep and calm Seto Inland Sea, this area has been a main shipping hub for Japan for millennia. The Ichinomiya Itsukushima Shrine and Oyamazumi Shrine (both guardians of navigation) are all located in this area, which shows the historical importance of this sea lane.

As a child, Chiyako loved hanging around her father's shipyard; by the time she was twelve, she was filling out shipping journals for him. Chiyako gradually became indispensable to her father, and as she grew older, Chiyako's father promised her that she would one day own a ship herself.

When she was 15, Chiyako had lost her mother to pancreatic cancer and then her younger sister from a traffic accident. She took over running the household while also managing the bookkeeping for her father's business.

When Chiyako was 17, her father bought a freighter, the Asuka-maru named after her mother, and he registered the ship in Chiyako’s name. They used it to transport cargo such as coal, iron ore, and tungsten from China. Chiyako spent most of her time captaining the Asuka-maru personally, becoming adept at navigation and all aspects of sailing. She was known for being a stern enforcer of order on board her ship, intolerant of any drunken crew members on duty.

After her father died, the other shareholders decided they want the company for themselves. As the children of the previous owner, Chiyako and her two siblings were all given a large cheque with enough money for them to live the rest of their life in luxury. Chiyako’s love for sailing and past records eventually brought her to enrolled for Naval Academy and being commissioned, before she was assigned to the cruiser warship Atago as an officer on board.

Mannerisms: Braiding hair automatically when she’s in thought while also tilting head, also likes to wink quite often.
