Niji was surprised when a shuriken flew past his head. It didn't take much to realize it wasn't meant for him so he determined it must of been from his one of his comrades. He looked around in time to see leaves falling from whatever had been there. Since there was no way he'd be able to combat this unseen adversary on his own he took off toward where he guessed his squad was.
As soon as he got close enough to see his squad mates he came to a stop. "Hope I didn't keep you waiting too long. Got any strategy in mind, haven't really seen who we're up against yet." It was obvious that he was nearing exhaustion do to trying to cool his body in the hot weather. Either way he wasn't going to be much help in a fight in his condition.

"Yooo, are you the girls from the Village!? I think your teacher hired me to give you a hand or something!".

The voice, deep and jovial, came from the woods in the direction Squad 5 had travelled from, cutting into their attempts at an elaborate strategy. The source was real hard to miss. It wasn't just that the bald-headed newcomer was relatively tall and definitely big and wide, his bright red clothes made him look for all the world like he'd just stepped out for a day at the beach and didn't exactly scream "professional". He did, however, arrive at a steady jog, and despite coming in later he appeared to have crossed the distance quickly and without any real sign of discomfort beyond a small sweat. A typical ninja Takaya Ruka was not, but hey if you were about to get into a fight he was probably the man you wanted with you.

Nevermind that he didn't actually know if this was his job or not. He just knew he had to meet a contact near the bridge and had asked no questions, he didn't care. Despite his...everything, Osamu was still a high ranking ninja and Ruka could speak a bit of Drunk, he figured the man had hired him to boost his squad for a dangerous bit of work or something, he clearly cared enough. Oh well, things'd work themselves out, right? Taking the situation in stride, Ruka did what came natural: he wasted absolutely no time in stepping towards the treeline where the clearly dangerous sounds were coming from. Oh he'd noticed the claw marks alright, that just made him more interested.

"Alrighty ladies, I dunno what's going on, but it sure sounds like you're about to get a first row seat to a lesson in real fighting by Takaya Ruka", he mouthed off as a means of introduction, dramatically casting off his hoodie to reveal his ridiculously engorged physique before taking a stance. Weight evenly spread and knees slightly bent, not too bladed or squared, left hand and foot forward, torso slightly bent forward at the waist, shoulders raised slightly, hands open with palms towards the opponent in position to attack and defend. Oh yeah, he was feeling nice and warmed up.

Shizuka Shinrai
Fishing Village - Unknown House

870c5db76031979f9964b207378a4080.jpg

Shizuka raised his eyebrows at Tamatsuki’s excuse, but otherwise offered no further comments. Taking in his surroundings once more, his gaze immediately picked up the large number of crows that had suddenly appeared. He’d been right to be paranoid, but how had he not noticed them before? Shizuka was sure he’d have heard the sheer number of black birds flapping their wings upon arrival, but he’d heard nothing. An uncertain frown crossed his face and he gripped his kunai tighter.

“I don’t think these are normal crows. I didn’t hear them approach and I’m pretty sure they weren’t here earlier.”

Of course this meant things were serious. It was a very rare event for someone to successfully sneak up on Shizuka, often to the amusement of others as he foiled prank after prank. But this was different, there were maybe a hundred or so crows present and none of them had made a detectable sound, even now. Was this genjutsu? He had no way of knowing currently, but even so he pinched himself just to be sure. Things were getting stranger and Masamune’s overconfidence was not helping. Each beady eye he saw possessed an intelligent glint that turned his uncertainty into apprehension and he slowly backed up into the shack. Turning, he slowly approached the scared inhabitants and got down on one knee to bring his face down to their level.

“I’m really sorry about our idiot, she was dropped on her head at birth. We’re from Konohagakure and we’re here to help. Could you explain what exactly it is you’re so afraid of?”

Shizuka usually let Tamatsuki handle the talking because he preferred to keep the silence and, well, Masamune had already demonstrated the extent of her diplomatic ability. In situations where time is of the essence and could be the difference between having to fix a problem and preventing one, Shizuka decided that it would be best to take the correct course of action immediately rather than discussing anything. Hopefully nothing bad happened while he was extracting information from the locals.

"Come on. Don't act like a genin" Katsuyoshi beamed into Niji's brain. Then, there was a sudden yelling. Despite his experience with his jutsu, Katsuyoshi was still getting used to hearing voices outside of his head while using his jutsu. Once the yelling stopped, Katsuyoshi shot his teammate a glare. "I hope that answers your question" he thought at him.

"Neru. You've worked with Niji before. Get him some shade, loosen up his clothing. I'll see if I can take on these guys." He thought to Neru. The chuunin looked around him. Closing his eyes, he attempted to see through the eyes of his opponents, attempting to gauge their position. "It looks like these are survivors of the Bandit Eradication war. They must've taken over the farm." He said to his teammates through telepathy.

When Shizuka spoke to the cowering villagers they jumped slightly. "We're scared of... THEM. They cut the rigging of the ships and attacked the fishermen. I... I don't know if any of them survived and now because of you people, I doubt we'll live much longer."

Outside, one of the bird on the roof lifted a foot and moved its toes in a strange fashion, almost as if it was mimicking hand signs and some of the other birds joined in. After a few motions, streams of electricity jumped from their beaks and formed a cage of lightning around Tamatsuki and Kotegiri. The silence of the village was destroyed from the crackling of the cage and what seemed to be laughter from the birds.

Back inside, the villagers broke down upon hearing the cruel laughter of the ravens. "Please... Please do something."

It didn't take long for the cause of the destruction to appear before the group. It stood roughly eight feet tall, eyes burning with a bestial fury, and scars covering nearly a fourth of its body, and dark brown fur covering the rest. The mighty bear charged at Ruka, pulling its massive paw back for a powerful swipe as it roared out at the trespassers.

"GET OUUUUUUUUUUT!"

Clearly it was smarter than the average bear.

One thought stood out to Katsuyoshi more than the others. "Alright, I'm just some jackass ninja. I got this, I got this." The fact that the vision connected to it was focused on himself likely helped with that. Neru, who Katsuyoshi had just turned away from, had came around the corner of a house and pointed to the other one before shouting a warning. "Whoa my dude, that's one of the bandits in disguise, he totally used a jutsu to look like me! C'mon bro, you know me, I'm obviously the real one."

Then, as if the second Neru wasn't troubling enough, the ground beneath Niji's feet ruptured as the signpost from before flew out and transformed into some sort of small beast before swiping at his eyes. As if this was some sort of signal, multiple small rocks and tools scattered around the village transformed into the same sort of beast. Another thought flashed through the second Neru's head. "Those assholes are gonna mess up my master plan!"

The tanuki, as it was quite obvious from a single glance what the beasts were, seemed confident that the battle would be in their favor. Who could blame them? They had numbers on their side.

Ruka's first thought when seeing an 8 foot pissed off bear charging at him was: Dude, sweet!

Fighting wildlife wasn't exactly unheard of for maniacs like him and this one looked mean as they came, it was gonna be a hell of a workout and he was already smiling widely at its opening move. Takaya braced his right arm to keep his guard up as he stepped towards the enraged ursine and looked to catch it in the middle of its wider swing with a lancing straight jab, using the quickest and longest punch from his lightning fast lead left and stepping into the range to make up for his reach disadvantage. At least, that's what he was going to open with until the animal screamed right at his face. "AW DUDE YOU CAN TALK!" Ruka screamed right back at the bear, still stepping through the firing range.

Deciding against punching for the moment, Takaya stepped even deeper, to where exchanges of blows would be stifled and difficult. Reaching out with both arms, he grabbed at the bear's "biceps" and elbow joints, using its loose skin and fur to affirm his grip much like he would with someone's sleeves. Keeping his hands cupped over those major areas let him control the arms' movements and take away much of their threat, while giving the opponent enough room to move that it encouraged trying to flail out of the clinch. Keeping his footing firm and close, Ruka leaned on the bear to make it harder for it to move and pushed his own head up against the animal's neck and jaw so that it couldn't bite down on him.

"HEY MAN RELAX! WHY ARE YOU SO UPSET!", he kept screaming back at the bear as he tried to control it via wrestling. Bears didn't usually talk so this was pretty cool as far as Ruka was concerned, so he kinda wanted to not hurt it if he could help it now. It sounded like it had a problem and maybe they could talk it out. Just, you know, not while trying to punch eachother, that made talking difficult, but people usually calmed down after a few rounds of immobilizing grappling.

Meanwhile at one of the trees, upon the reveal of the bear, the bark of the tree began to shake! Well that was curious, usually trees were not so active regarding their emotions. Trees were typically stoic in their feelings regardless of how they actually felt. This served as one of the signs, apart from the fact Kotone moved to a tree and set up a disguise earlier, that this tree wasn't as it seemed! It was hiding the kunoichi via the Cloak of Invisibility Technique!

T-that, that- is it rea- yes, yes it is in fact an ursine which is very vocal about its desires. And it speaks in proper tongue. Remarkable, I should inform a zoologist that this particular subset of bear exists... ...If it doesn't kill me first. These were a couple of precursory thoughts that made their way through Kotone's mind as her knees continued to shake, as the sight of the angry creature helped ruin the hiding technique she was going for. The sheet, still appearing like bark, began to slide off revealing Kotone with her mouth agape just staring in a bit of horror at the scene.

But she couldn't let fear of being manhandled by a bear get to her! She needed to help out her squad and the individual her most esteemed teacher hired. Osamu always had a keen sense of observation even while under the influence of alcohol, Kotone would need to thank him for hiring out Tayaka Ruka. Another note, confirm once again the identity of that man and confirm that name is not faked. If the name is true that would imply, at least on some level, a connection to the Tayaka Sumo Stable. And if he is connected to said stable that means... that means... I CAN FINALLY BE ABLE TO REACH THE BURNING DRAGON! HIS AGGRESSIVE STYLE BY SHEER CHARGING AND SLAPPING PUTS HIM AT SO MANY RISKS AND YET HE CAN PRESERVE! Well mostly. ...I need his autograph. These thoughts came to Kotone's mind as she focused her gaze on the bear, performed her hand-signs, and began to send the creature into the world of illusions where they disappointed their ancestors.

Finishing that up Kotone bent down to grab her sheet and bring it back up to return to hiding against the tree under the false visage of bark.

"Nah you can go do that I'd much rather attack." He said to Katsuyoshi before disappearing. It was around this point in time that the ambushers revealed themselves. It was pretty impressive watching all sorts of mundane and unobtrusive objects from nature transform into tanukis. More amusing was the one copying his appearance. "Well I'm flattered you got good enough to taste to copy the best looking one of the group, but I don't think you got everything down right. Here let me show you." He said approaching the doppelganger. A flurry of spear jabs and swipes enveloped his clone. He kept attacking even if it made him a wide open target for the others.

Of course by the time he'd get struck he wouldn't be there. The Neru striking the tanuki clone of himself was yet another clone. His mirage was taking care of the attack and keeping the tanuki clone of himself distracted while he moved to enter the house. He wondered if there any farmers taken hostage inside or simply more tanukis hiding inside waiting to jump out. Either way it would be good to check out and hopefully deal with what's in without having the house blow up.

Kotegiri let her transformation drop and folded her arms, tapping her foot impatiently as the birds spun a net of electric death around them and of course Orphan had conveniently ducked inside the second danger approached, just like always. Frankly, Kotegiri wondered why he even became a ninja if he was so afraid of minor shit like lethal electric discharges and being run through with sharp objects. Dude was really more the oden cart type, if they were being honest. Turning around to glower directly at the villagers, she made her grievances known.

"OI, SHIZAN! I dunno what you or those limp-dick bumpkins had planned for the day, but me an' Kintama got a schedule to keep here! If you don't getcher ass over here pronto I'mma bust outta here and kick all this bird ass myself, ya hear me!?"

She kicked a rock at the barrier, watching the static discharge reduce it to molten slag on contact.

"Soon as I figure out how, that is..."

Niji was a bit surprised by the sudden appearance of a second Neru. When the small creature suddenly erupted from the ground he came close to passing out from exhaustion, falling backwards in time to barely avoid being blinded before regaining his footing. He managed to thrust his palm into the creature's chest while it was still in the air, injecting a small amount of ice chakra directly into it's heart to slow the source of blood while pushing it away. Looking around to see more objects transforming into the same animal he shook his head in disbelief. "It can't be, I thought tanukis were just a myth." He commented weakly as he loosened his clothing.
Niji began to sway slightly as he took up a fighting stance, a small result of his waning chakra. He wasn't going to be much help since he didn't want to risk using ninjutsu. He had no choice but to rely on his taijutsu skills which was going to be difficult against the small enemies. Whatever the case this was going to be a difficult fight taking into account the number of tanukis.

Shizuka Shinrai
Fishing Village - Unknown House

"Thank you."

Shizuka turned away from the cowering villages and was greeted with the loud crackling of electric energy before him. He'd been lucky to adjust his hearing, or it would have probably brought on quite the headache. Stepping into the house's doorway, his eyes narrowed as he assessed the situation. Kotegiri and Tamatsuki were both trapped in a cage of lightning, apparently cast from the crows themselves and it seemed as though taijutsu would be ineffective. So they weren't illusions but... ninjutsu creations? Shizuka refused to believe they were their own sentient beings, there had to be some kind of summoner somewhere. Either way, they were intelligent and oddly powerful. His careful eye picked up on the jutsu as at least B-rank. Powerful and probably quite difficult to break through for anyone else.

Luckily, Shizuka wasn't just anyone.

"Impressive, but don't take us lightly, birds. We're ninja of Konohagakure."

He spoke loudly, uncharacteristically so, in order to allow the crows across the path to hear him. Shizuka was a lot of things, lazy, quiet, irritable; but he was also intelligent. This jutsu was nothing too surprising and he knew the best counter for it. If there was one thing this particular ninjutsu had a weakness for, it was wind-based ninjutsu of equal measure. Gathering up his chakra in his arms, Shizuka compressed the build up of energy into a thinner form within his appendages. After a second or so, his arms suddenly flung forward, splaying out in a clear sign of attack. Two impossibly thin crescents of wind chakra shot forth from his arms faster than a shuriken, aimed directly at the cage that currently had his comrades ensnared.

[Tsukigiri]

The blades of wind shredded through the lightning cage on either side of his two squad mates, destroying the jutsu in entirety. But Shizuka wasn't done yet. Not one to celebrate too early, he performed his [Tsukigiri] jutsu once more and shot two more swift blades at the crows above, hoping to quickly thin a few of their numbers before they retaliated. Hopefully calling them out and his show of force would cause them to consider a retreat, being the instinctual animals they were. Somehow, he didn't think that would be the case though. He grinned at Kotegiri and jumped over to join them.

"It's lucky I'm a wind-user, or you'd probably be fried by now. It's worrying that these birds know such complex jutsu though..."

"Hey hey hey. Go easy." Katsuyoshi mentally projected to his teammates. "We haven't figured out what they've done with the farmers yet. Keep them busy though. I'll give you the signal for when I'm done." He had planned on capturing the tanuki and interrogating them, though it seemed his allies had other plans in mind. He anticipated this happening, and so continued his mind reading. His focus was on two things: The amount of thoughts he was reading, subtracted by two should give him the number of enemies there were; as well as a stray thought or two about the whereabouts of the farmers.

With his two teammates protecting him, Katsuyoshi was confident that he didn't have to move from his spot. He formed a hand sign to gather his chakra and quiet the sounds of battle around him, allowing him to focus better.

Naoko Aoki

A small smile crossed her face as she listened to Kotone proceed in her polite verbose fashion. The girl always had an admirably expansive vocabulary, one which she used at any given opportunity, but her fellow kunoichi always found it curious that her colleague’s definition of ‘informal’ speech was far more elaborate than what many might consider standard ceremonial speech. All the same, the blue-haired woman was able to quickly parse through and understand the heart of what the former courtier meant, both regarding their current assignment and their previous interaction with Osamu-sensei. Yet she could also sympathize with Kotori’s viewpoint and stubborn desire not to discuss such things. Evading the topic didn’t change anything, but neither had all the private conversations and endeavours the squad partook in alter things for the better. To become discouraged by the lack of progress was understandable, at least in her eyes.

Naoko contemplated intervening in the small feud, but decided against it for the time being. After her restrained retort, Kotone seemed willing to let the disagreement rest for now, and there would be plenty of time for them to work through this once their assignment was completed. At the suggestion of getting together later, the leaf-nin had briefly mulled over the proposal, but before she could give an answer they were interrupted as the sound of tumbling trees caught their attention. At the suggestion of initializing the eloquently named strategy (One did not need to think long to know who’d chosen the tactic’s ornate title). Truth be told, it wasn’t an approach she cared to implement often, if only due to the flaw of needlessly put one of their own at risk. Yet her teammates had already come to an accord, and she felt it was better to avoid further feuding, and so with a cautious glance at Kotori retreated to hide in the foliage.

She remained still even as from the treeline came a bombastic man, loudly declaring their presence for all to hear. Her brow furrowed as the arrogant shinobi brazenly postured about as a peacock might, completely unimpressed by the display. Well, if he draws out our quarry, better that he gets injured than one of our own, Naoko mused darkly. No sooner had the thought crossed her mind that the universe responded, an abnormally large bear bursting from the forest with unexpected swiftness. As if the situation needed further absurdity, the bear proceeded to roar in comprehensible tongues before charging at the cocky Takaya, the pair engaging in a wrestling match of sorts. It was almost enough to make the kunoichi wonder whether she was in a bizarre lucid dream.

After pausing to take stock of their predicament, Naoko’s first priority went to her teammates, Kotone remained out of sight, but Kotori was out in the open and thus at risk. The large ursine creature seemed aggressive, but if it had the ability to speak, perhaps it could be reasoned with. She hated being rash in her decisions… but from what she could see this dispute would hardly be resolved if the pair continued brawling it out as they were. Remaining in her hiding spot, the blue-haired woman whipped through a collection of hand signs before forcefully thrusting her hands to the ground. “Earth Wall.” Naoko intoned, and at her beckoning a mass of densely packed dirt rose between the fighting duo to try and break them apart. Another set of stone walls ascended to barricade the pair from each other and the near surroundings. “Please, we do not wish to disturb you, nor do we bear you any ill will. However, it was reported that a party of hunters disappeared wandering this area, and we’ve been sent to investigate their fate… Do you have any information on the matter?” She finally spoke, calling out to the creature from her concealed location.

'Girls??' Kotori thought as a giant man dressed in bright red walked out of the treeline. The man stripped his shirt and got into a dramatic fighting pose while Kotori simply looked at him blankly, blinking a few times before he fully realized what the man had called him. His eyes shifted into a slight sneer as he glared at the man and pointed spear at him threateningly. His whole life, people had mistaken him for a girl. He was pretty, yes, he had a slender build, yes, he may have rounded hips, an ass, and long hair but god damn it, he was still a man. He had thought it would stop after he beat up three boys badly who had been making fun of him back in the academy but no, his sensei couldn't get his gender right and now this man who called himself Ruka had the gall to call him a female.

"Who are you calling a lady you insufferable piece of shit!" He growled out, making his way towards the man before reeling back when a large bear came out swinging and yelling in human tongue. Even though he would never admit it, a cry of "KYAAAAAA" escaped his lips and jumped back staring at the bear with wide eyes. The fear, however, was soon replaced with awe and disbelief as he watched the shirtless man begin to wrestle with the bear.

"What the actual fuck.' He muttered to himself, not even bothering to put back on his mask of indifference, simply staring at the spectacle in front of him for a few moments before shaking his head and facepalming. Of all the things he had seen in his 19 years of life, this had to be one of the most ridiculous.

"I've surrounded by fucking idiots." He said before using a glyph to launch himself into the air, summoning another glyph to land on while angling it downwards so he could shoot himself like a bullet at the bear if need be. He decided to stay put, however, when he heard Naoko separated the man and the bear with an earth wall. His mask of indifference had returned, but cold fury was still dancing in his eyes as he glanced at Ruka with eyes that promised pain.

Between Ruka's brave foolishness and his skill, the bear was caught off guard and made the mistake of letting his opponent get in close. Despite the beast's overwhelming strength, it struggled to bring its powerful paws in together in what was likely an attempt to rip Ruka apart. "YOU ENTER MY HOME AND ASK WHY I'M UPSET?! YOUR KIND ARE ALL ALIKE!" It had seemed as if the bear had more to say, but its mind was seized by Kotone's genjutsu and for a moment the beast's eyes glazed over. It had seemed that everything was taken care of, but rage once again consumed the bear. "HUMAN TRICKERY SUCH AS THAT HAS NO HOPES AGAINST ME! MY ANCESTORS ONLY WISH FOR ME TO REMOVE YOUR KIND FROM OUR LAND!"

But before the bear could use its renewed anger and strength to break free, the earth itself rose and broke Ruka's grasp on it. Unfortunately for the bear, but fortunately for Ruka, the bear could not take advantage of it before being trapped by stone walls. "BEAR ME ILL WILL? BEAR?! DO YOU THINK THIS IS A GAME, HUMAN?!" Despite Naoko's honest intentions, it seemed as if her choice of words did not improve the bear's attitude.

From high above, when Kotori focused his gaze on the powerful Ruka, he caught a glimpse of motion out of the corner of his eye. Two more bears, roughly half the size of the other one, were sneaking towards the rest of his team, likely unheard due to the yelling of the larger bear.

The fake Neru dodged the clone Neru's onslaught of thrusts and swipes of his spear while pleading to Katsuyoshi. "B-Bro, c'mon help me. This one is clearly the fake! He even attacked first!" But the faker's words went unheeded, as his thoughts did plenty to betray his plan. He thought that humans were stupid enough to fall for obvious tricks, he thought that humans couldn't tell each other apart, he thought that the real Neru would try to explain how he was the real one in a comical fashion. He was wrong on all three counts. When Neru entered the house, the first thing he saw were a family tied up and staring at a statue that looked much like a jizo but with a twisted, mocking grin. Perhaps another disguised tanuki?

As Niji struggled to regain his balance after fighting off one of the tanuki, he soon learned that they would give him no time for rest. "Ultimate Taijutsu - Tanuki Style: Golden Flail!" The tanuki that announced his technique was spinning what appeared to be some sort of woolen sack containing heavy objects at an incredibly high speed. His control of the makeshift weapon was impressive, it was obvious he would be hard to put down.

When Katsuyoshi tried to count the thoughts, he quickly ran into an issue. It seemed as if the thoughts would flicker in and out of existence, almost as if the tanuki could go without thinking at all for brief moments of time. The most thoughts he could count at one time, not including Neru's and Niji's, were twelve. Four of them were thoughts of fear and were likely the farmers which meant eight tanuki. However he could sense occasional thoughts in five other areas of the farm for a possibly total of thirteen.

Kotori watched as the bear began ranting and raving, unable to get at Ruka due to Naoko's earth jutsu. He rolled his eyes, folding his arms as he looked down at the bear from his place a good few feet in the air, the glyph he was standing on glowing faintly and spinning lazily.

"She was asking you a question so chill the fuck out. She may be polite and not very violent, but I am." He called out, reaching up to twirl a lock of hair while he returned his gaze to Ruka before catching a glimpse of something moving in the corner of his eye. His eyes narrowed as he realized it was two other bears.

"Look out, we got more incoming." He said to his teammates calming before putting out his hand and summoning a glyph under the two smaller bears' feet. Beginning to close his hand into a fist, the gravity around the bears becomes heavier and heavier, Kotori's eyes seeming to turn lighter and lighter until it's almost an eerily glowing shade of white that would unnerve most people. His finger twitched, tempted to go further but decides to just try restraining the bears' ability to move, a nagging feeling in the back of his head telling him the two bears were likely the children of the bigger bear.

From behind the visage of false bark, Kotone watched with a stunned expression as the series of events began to unfold. Her traditional comrades, and the new one in Ruka, had done a good job in setting up the scene for further victory. Judging based on the positioning of the wall, it was not just an attempt by Naoko to help the fist-fighter, but a signal to bring this creature back alive. Well just noting its existence to a zoologist wouldn't be enough, Kotone realized that surely they needed to bring the creature back alive for study. That would be an easier task for her. On the other end Kotori had wisely chosen to allow the fist-fighter to serve as bait and ascend to a higher vantage point.

With his words of caution delivered, and of course having the bear's words fresh in her mind, Kotone emerged beneath the sheet which revealed itself to not be strange bark of a tree but a sheet! The kunoichi scowled at the massive bear for a moment before dramatically pointing her right index finger at the scarred monster. "H-hey! Upon observing the eidolons depicting the individuals members that preceded you in your familial line, the intended result was for you to feel guilty and or mortified at their presence for your wrongdoings, or if lacking said inherent feelings of remorse involving these relatives, at the very least you should go through an unnerving processing dealing with those individuals! Such a realization should not have strengthened your resolve! Now that I have delivered that information regarding your actions leading to my stunned state, I shall now express my current emotional state dealing with you with an epigrammatic selection of words; YOU WRETCH! I HOPE YOU GET STUCK IN A CAGE FAR TOO SMALL FOR YOU!" With that finished Kotone sprung out to help further address the situation of the newcomer bears.

Upon seeing the smaller bears, perhaps cubs of this one, Kotone quickly stared at them, performed a handsign and proceeded to enforce an illusion of making these creatures feel as if they were sinking under the pressure of this. Surely the combined tactic of the glyph to slow them plus her illusions would give the rest of her team-mates solid time to act on other matters.

Neru glanced at the tied up farmer family in the house and the evil looking looking statue. He clenched his jaw, this was tricky to figure out. He needed to act fast but also needed to pick out correctly which was the tanuki and which one was real. The family could be real and the statue is one of the disguised tanukis, but it could also be a distraction. He also wondered, could the tankuis transform others into looking like objects? What if that statue was the family? "Tchh... This won't take very long to sort out" he said irritatedly as his hands began to make seals faster than he was actually thinking out his plan.

Immediately, many needles formed from his own chakra materialized into his hands. He picked on of the family members at random, he figured the imitation of the tanukis of humans was very shallow and would not copy internal human physiology. One of the farmers now had the glowing needles stabbed along their body in a specific manner. The reaction he was seeking was simple, it would cause a leg to kick up and stiffen straight. If it didn't then it would be clear it was a disguised tankui. Alternatively the disguise worked on a deeper level than he thought.

He then turned to the statue and gave it a slightly hard slap with the butt of his spear. Might as well cover both bases and inspect these two elements at once. He took a step back to avoid a lunge from either the statue or the family. But he kept a particular focus on the target he did acupuncture on. The reaction or lack therof was important to see.

Katsuyoshi sorted through all the different thoughts he was having, the tanuki giving him particular trouble with the way they actually thought. He wondered if there was a sort of pattern with their thinking, speculating it might have something to do with their transformations. It was certainly different from the normal transformation that he was used to with another ninja.

For a brief moment, Katsuyoshi opened his eyes to observe what was happening around him, as well as to bring himself out of his trance. It looked to him as if Neru had figured out the tanuki with his needle trick. Closing his eyes, he figured out exactly what he was doing, and thought it was quite clever. Amidst the battle, it was difficult to exactly tell whose thoughts were whose, especially as he sensed possible others around the farm. Katsuyoshi hoped those weren't reinforcements, though he had reason to believe that the shouting from before indicated that particular individual as the tanuki leader. Though he knew what that particular tanuki sounded like, Katsuyoshi's experience with his jutsu let him know that this was unreliable as people didn't think in the same voice they spoke in.

Then, Katsuyoshi stood up. "Alright," he projected to his teammates, "This shouldn't be too hard. If he attacks you, then he's not a farmer." Katsuyoshi made a quick handsign for a clone jutsu, but then stopped himself, realizing it would be a bad idea against the tanuki in this situation. In his bag, he carried smoke bombs, caltrops, and explosion paper; too lethal for his purposes, and he didn't quite have the surgical knowledge that Neru possessed.

Without other options, Katsuyoshi pushed the blade of his sword out of its sheath. Then, in the same motion, cut at the shins of one of the enemies. The blade was made of wood, but it was still more than sharp enough to cut through clothing and perhaps break skin.

"Attaboy, Shizan! Even you can be of use to someone when you try!", Kotegiri called back as the scrawny kid split apart the barrier. Not one to be outdone, the young ninja let fly a brace of kunai concealed in the ends of her sleeves, scattering a nearby flock of the birds as she closed the distance between herself and the largest group. Massive, curved scimitar blades emerged from her sleeves as she made a flying leap onto the roof, landing with an overhead slash and carving massive gashes through the house's shingles as the birds scattered in her wake.

"DID I GET 'EM?", She shouted, dislodging her blades from the roof, "HEY, SHIZAN, HOW MANY OF THOSE FEATHERED FREAKS DID I GET? YOU'D BETTER BE KEEPING COUNT!"

Niji just barely managed to avoid the sack by leaning back far enough to plant a hand on the ground before flipping back to both kick the weapon and increase the distance. As he landed his movements became more unstable yet somehow the swaying seemed more calculated now, sure he was still suffering from exhaustion but he was managing enough to be in control of his body. "I don't see the purpose of you being here, these farmers couldn't have done anything to you." He remarked as he took another step back, since he couldn't read minds he had to be more direct in finding the group's reason.

Shizuka managed to cut through some of the birds, but others escaped through the use of the replacement jutsu, swapping with nearby twigs. The birds not in the path of the wind blades seemed to be preparing a ninjutsu to counter attack with, but were scattered by Kotegiri's wild assault. Then, as if the ravens were no longer interested in their human attackers, they looked up to the sky and a shrill voice filled the air.

"They send children to deal with us? How insulting!" To Squad 5 it was unclear what the voice was coming from as the unnaturally large raven flew with the sun at its back to hide itself. Using a few quick talon signs, the boss raven dive bombed at Shizuka at incredible speeds before swerving off to the side and letting the shock wave deal with him as it now flew at Tamatsuki as it continued to scream at the ninjas. "We shall feast upon your eyes today!"

The other birds turned their focus to Kotegiri and alternated between groups of five birds each, firing barrages of lightning and wind jutsus at the girl. They were careful to stay far away from her, as from what they could tell, she couldn't respond with her own ranged attacks. Once again, the laughter of the birds filled the air.

The man that Neru experimented on screamed as the needles pierced him, more from fear than pain, and his leg kicked out like it should have. The statue he hit also had a normal reaction of falling over and breaking. Wherever it came from, it was cheaply made and the farmers were stunned by this shock revelation. "That... That wasn't one of the tanuki? We've been scared of that thing this whole time and it was just some junk?" They all sat in silence for a moment before remembering that they had company. "Oh! You must be here to save us, right? We don't have much to offer you at this moment, but we'll pay you back eventually."

The tanuki that Katsuyoshi slashed at went down without much trouble but he was sure to give the leaf ninja a piece of his mind. "Why you gotta be a jerk?! We didn't do nothing to you, we gotta eat too you know! What's wrong with that?!" The tanuki was not just content with words, he was sure to use a variety of rude hand gestures. Behind Katsu, another tanuki skulked around a farm house with a leaf attached to a small pebble in his hand. "So long, sucker." The tanuki thought to itself as he got the telepathic ninja in sight. Carefully, he flung the pebble at Katsuyoshi while keeping a hold of the leaf. The moment the pebble left the leaf, it grew to a size larger than the tanuki itself but kept the momentum of the pebble. If this managed to hit him, the results would not be pretty.

When Niji kicked the tanuki's strange weapon, a yelp of pain rung out through the farm. Now that it was no longer being spun, he could clearly see that it was actually a very specific part of the tanuki's body. Through tears and gritted teeth, the tanuki called out to Niji. "What is wrong with you?! Hitting below the belt? You monster! I hate you! I hope someone kicks you in the nards so you can see what it feels like!"

"WELL I'M SORRY, THE WOODS ARE OPEN FOR EVERYONE, HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE?", was Ruka's response to the enraged bear's claims to the land, completely ignoring Kotori's own screams. Territorial matters were kinda lost on someone who settled wherever on the basis of convenience and who'd likely be perfectly fine living as a nomad. Before their conversation could carry on, however, giant chunks of dirt and stone exploded up from within the earth and separated Takaya from his quarry, leaving him dragging his fingers into the protective jutsu and scraping off a chunk before he realized what had happened. Dissapointed, he turned around to look in the vague direction where the group of shinobi were hiding at.

"Now how am I supposed to tire it out?", he asked no one in particular, standing there arms spread wide out as if protesting a silly mistake. Because he happened to turn around, figuring the bear currently preoccupied, he managed to catch the two smaller woodland creatures being hit by multiple jutsu. Well shit that'd probably enrage the big guy more and then he'd probably have to shut his lights out to get him to stop rampaging. Yeah it wasn't gonna be the first time he'd done something like that and at least this one could understand what was happening, but that didn't mean he felt super good about it. "Y'KNOW MAYBE IF WE ALL STOP AND APOLOGIZE FOR BEING RUDE WE CAN FIGURE THIS OUT WITHOUT PAIN".

"ARE, I, WE, R-REALLY? I-IT'S A BEAR!" Shihashi Kotone screamed out as she pinched at the bridge of her nose. "A BEAR! Negotiations are to be saved and utilized primarily among individuals, clan units or settlements that can act and behave in a rational and civilized manner! This bear had already stated it wants to end us with pain, that is generally considered a 'false step', a misstep in negotiation matters between peers. If we were to compare this to more rational cases of diplomacy, surely this event would mean they have given up all attempts for diplo-" the ex-courtier continued for a bit before stopping and blinking as she was coming to a realization.

Was this truly the right way to go about this? If she just decided to end this with violence, well mental violence and violence from her peers sakes, would she be any better than that bear? No. No she would not, and she would be damned if she would let any member of the Shihashi Clan be bested by a bear. It was time to try in earnest to gain a moral victory, it was time to settle things peacefully.

Kotone let out a sigh as she turned her attention away from the smaller bears and walked up closer towards the bigger one. The kunoichi gave a prominent bow to the large bear before speaking. "My most sincerest and humble apologizes to you, my actions were made too hastily and were driven by an irrational response to your presence. I beg of you to forgive my mistake, and hope you will accept my apology. If you would be so kind esteemed Master of the Woodlands, allow me to introduce myself. I am Shihashi Kotone, my present occupation is that as a kunoichi of Squad Five of the Village Hidden in the Leafs. Before I discuss with you finer details of why we are present in your lands, without an invitation which if we had known of your presence we would have asked for your blessings for safe passage in advance, may I inquire as to your name, and or titles? I do not wish to be improper addressing you further. It is my most earnest hope that we can come to an agreement that suits both our parties interests."

"FUCK THAT SHIT, HE DOESN'T NOT OWN THIS FOREST. IT IS A HOME TO ALL AND SHOULDN'T BE TREATED AS FUCKING PROPERTY. HE DARED ATTACK US WITHOUT US PROVOKING HIM BECAUSE OF HIS MISPLACED SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT. IF ANYONE WAS RUDE IT WAS HIM. THERE IS ALSO THE FACT HE IS SETTING A TERRIBLE EXAMPLE FOR HIS CHILDREN, HE IS TEACHING THEM THAT THEY CAN KILL WHOEVER THEY WANT." Kotori roared at Ruka after Kotone had finished speaking, his face looking as though if it was any paler, it would be flushed dark red with rage. His fist was clenched but he didn't use his glyphs to exist anymore force on the two smaller bears. Turning his furious glare to the bear, he sneered as he continued his rant.

"I GET THAT YOU PROBABLY HAD SOME SHITTY ASS EXPERIENCES WITH HUMANS BEFORE, MOST OF US ARE ASSHOLES AND IDIOTS LIKE THAT PIECE OF SHIT OVE THERE." He paused to gesture angrily at Ruka. "BUT IT DOESN'T GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO TRY AND KILL SOMEONE, ESPECIALLY OVER SOMETHING LIKE BEING IN A FUCKING FOREST. IF YOU HAD WANDERED INTO THE VILLAGE AND SOME HUMANS TRIED TO KILL YOU JUST FOR BEING THERE, WOULD YOU FUCKING LIKE IT? YOU CAN'T EVEN USE THE EXCUSE THAT YOUR AN ANIMAL BECAUSE NEWS FLASH HUMANS ARE ANIMALS TOO AND IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH INTELLIGENCE TO RANT AND RAVE THEN YOU SHOULD ALSO HAVE ENOUGH INTELLIGENCE TO KNOW YOU SHOULDN'T TRY TO KILL PEOPLE OVER STUPID SHIT."

Flipping his hair, he huffed and crossed his hand while continuing to glare at everyone, including Kotone, to dare try and argue with him.
