Ōkami Itto

"Y'got som'n ta' eat?"
Wolf

  • Team: Roku
    Rank: Mokunoha
    Faction: Samurai
Personality: A lone wolf. A wandering vagabond. A lost child.

Itto could be summed up by those words alone— and deep inside, within the very core of his soul— there isn’t much other than those three adjectives. He goes by the rules of a wild animal, he moves in wild, spurs of action. His movements aren't measured, his words few, only taking interest when it involves food or if he gets something out of it. He carries himself with an aloof baritone, bored, sharp and crystalline poise reeking from his voice— in almost every aspect, Itto doesn’t resemble the kids his age.

At his age, he’s an outcast. Rather, he never really got to fully understand social antics. Never got to grow into the feeling of it. He's got the gist of it, for the most part.

Half of the time he's hanging behind a group, his back turned to the wall regularly— stubbornly insular, almost as if he didn’t want to take up space or he didn’t want to be there to begin with. On the other half, he's disrespectful, loud and foul-mouthed. He’s quiet, but doesn’t know when to shut up when approached. He’s blunt and rough, in his mind he’s always right, pressing most of his points against the person he’s talking to without a sense of respect or human decency. Itto arranges words in a sloppy, almost haphazard fashion— much like… well, an old man from the woods.

He's an indifferent, uncaring beast in that rough exterior of his; but there’s still a pre-teen lurking beneath, along with all the angst and insecurities that come with that age. He cares for people in his own, bizarre way. Though he may not show it in his tone of voice, he’s no stranger to acts of selfless kindness. Itto’s heart might've been petrified a while ago, encased in stone, but it’s still a heart.

It's beating, and he can’t help it.

    History:
Itto was born and raised in the woods, day to day at a quiet, isolated plain-spot of land where he’d lived with his parents.

Never, not once, not in all the days he’d restlessly pace the overarching shade of the tree-lines, had Itto been met with anything but hot days and gentle breeze. He never asked for anything else, never needed anything else. Ever since he’d had a conscious mind, his mother had been gravely ill, delusional most of the time. She was foreign to the land, and they’d fought through that disparity with her. She was a kunoichi, one of those ninjas from across the ocean. He knew she was strong; but age takes the strong regardless. He'd spend days on end with his father catering to her, giving her their full attention.

His father was a samurai, a Haganenoha, he’d leave every morning when duty called, and Itto would wait cross-legged at foot of their door. It was a simple life for the most part. One day his father never returned, one day life wasn’t so simple.

The details are still sparse in his mind, he’s blocked them out, the bigger chunks of memories yet blur to a haze, but those little, annoying details never seem to go away for him. Haunt him at night.

All he remembers is the face of the man that took his peace and quiet away, he can’t shake the image off his mind.

The most he recalls of it was that of the cold, sharp caress of a sword gliding over his face, steel biting him. The figure of a man swinging that blur of steel lingering on his mind, his uncle, Ishii. A vagabond, a Ronin, a bastard. A swordsman that claimed to be of no clan, Itto’s cousins came from a rough one-night stand with a muse— his aunt, he figured. Never got to meet her anyways.

The man had a grudge with his father since they were kids, he spoke of him with spite, venom seeping from his tongue. The man came to his doorstep then, along with three of his cousins. He’d told Itto that his father had passed away on a mission. Itto still recalls the rage he felt as the man boasted of it, the way he carried himself about it. With space, image and sound— dimension— He could’ve almost seen the things he described. The way his father died. Vividly, palpable.

He saw red, Itto lashed out at the man.

The day was hot, sun was high up, the breeze was the same and Itto was getting his head caved in by his older cousins. His uncle laughing his ass off at the side; that’s all he remembers. The humiliation.

As he was there savoring the iron of the blood gathered at his mouth, Itto swore to pay his uncle back. Not in blood. He wasn’t an animal like him, his father wouldn’t have wanted that for him. No, he’d train the sword up until the day came where he’d break that bastard’s spirit. He’d make him feel every punch, all the blood, every crack on every bone. He wanted vengeance for this dishonor.

That day Itto was taught his most valuable lesson, strength means everything.

Nowadays Itto trains endlessly, swinging his wooden sword at every tree. Until the sun comes down. Until his callous, clammy hands can’t grip the damned thing anymore. He still takes care of his mother every passing day, down in their lonely abode, but honoring his father’s memory comes first.

He won’t rest until his uncle’s groveling at his feet. The mere thought of it is what keeps him going everyday.

Akari Tone

One more time
Akari

  • Team: Nadeshiko
    Rank: Mokunoha
    Faction: Samurai
Personality: Dilligent and caring, Akari is fiercely stubborn in what she believes. For better or worse, she believes in other people, and will push them as hard as she can to do whatever they believe in, long after they might have given up on themselves, or wanted to move on. It makes her a good sparring partner, but a bit obnoxious as a friend.

Ironically, she has self esteem issues with herself finishing a task. She was told that the style she studied was incredible, and can't seem to catch up to the legends, which makes Akari incredibly depressed. The fact she doesn't give up only makes her more stressed out, as she'll fuss for hours on technique, only to not get it, messing up further training.

All the training she does has not done wonders for her social skills...

Born to Tomo and Ryuujin Tone, the Tone family lived on the outskirts of the Land of Iron, her father often a scout called, leaving Akari with her mother and siblings much of the time, much more interested in hunting than the ways of the samurai like her father, the way her father preferred it. Her older brother, Rei, took up the path, but seemed uninterested in following as her father had. In his words 'there's good money in it, and a couple shortcuts the ninja have taught us will make me surpass the old generation soon enough.'

He did not bother learning from his father, preferring to walk to town and practice at the academy there, spicing up his sword play with ninjutsu, earning the title 'firebrand' before he even finished. Akari was left with more of the work around the house.

While doing woodchopping, a samurai ran up in desperation, asking if she'd seen her father, whom she hadn't. He claimed to have been in his father's squad, and was named Roku. "We need the flying general!" He cried, before an explosion knocked both her and Roku to the ground, a blastwave blowing over her house, and injuring everyone inside. Akari panicked as she helped up first Roku, helping clean a wound before rushing to the house, and helping move debris. She struggled to lift a pillar off of her mother before Roku helped her out. Miraculously, no one in her family had died, though no one was without scars, her mother Tomo taking a cut across her face and several to her torso.

She later learned a 'bijuu' bomb had flown off from the battlefield, and exploded nearby, the family crops being instantly destroyed.

Her father, Ryuujin returned several weeks later, samurai cheering him as they helped him up the steps to the house. Apparently he had helped injure the beast, shooting it in the eye, but in return had been impaled, and gravely injured. As tales were recounted, the samurai (rudely) barging into the home, it was the first time Akari had noticed that her father was not just some regular, but well known by the Land of Iron. He had just wanted a peaceful life for his family despite the times. He told her mother not to worry about the crops, he'd dip into his funds. Akari never noticed how 'deep' those funds went. But as his injuries grew worse, he dipped into them more and more, beginning to drink.

A war hero, but a forgotten one. Akari tried her best to ask him for help to keep his mind off of it, a hollow smile ever present. Her father was home more often, but seemed to be there less and less.

She overheard him arguing with Rei one day of wanting to pass on his techniques to his heir. Rei scoffed, claiming ninjutsu was the future of the samurai, and that he was already stronger than Ryuujin was back in his day. Rei left in a huff towards the academy. It was the first time Akari saw her father ever actually cry.

She ran up and asked him if he'd teach her his techniques. He looked up at her... only to bawl more, claiming he'd failed.

Akari went to yell at her brother. He handed her a bokken with a click of his teeth. "Put up or shut up. Oh wait, you don't know anything about how to be a samurai. Beat me, then maybe I'll apologize."

    Akari.... did not beat him.

But it ignited an anger in her, and she thought of another option. She hunted down Roku, knocking on his door.

"I want you to teach me to fight like my father did!"

Roku also laughed, with sad news. "No one can fight like your father did!" But as soon as he saw Akari's face, he added. "But I'll try. I'm not a forgiving master... Get ready for hell if you're serious."

Akari struggled through the lessons, running herself ragged between chores, training, and comforting her father. As she tried planting trees, she felt her mother's hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry about the crops. You've picked up another hobby, haven't you Akari?"

She gulped, having not told the family. Her mother, however, pulled her aside, only to reveal a secret basement. Downstairs, a single bow was on a display case. Her mother smiled, handing it to Akari. "Take it, it was your father's."

    "W-won't he be angry."

"He's never down here in the first place. I'll take care of the crops. They're more of a hobby anyways. Go on. Show us what a grateful child can do, Akari. Oh, and tell Roku I said hi."

Izumi Takahashi

6Qc5JCH.jpg

It's a massive world out there, and I want to see it all.
Izumi

  • Team: Roku
    Rank: Mokunoha
    Faction: Samurai
Personality: A starry-eyed idealist, Izumi searches for the good in any situation and openly dreams of a day they can put down their swords for good. She's seen firsthand what the cycle of fighting brings with it and has heard countless stories from the shinobi and other refugees stumbling into her family's tavern. She's no pacifist, however, and will fight fiercely to stop any threat against family and friends.

When she sets her mind to something, Izumi can be stubborn, infuriatingly so. She'll refuse to budge from her chosen course. Long after any sane person would've given up, she digs her heels in further. It's likely thanks to this she's no stranger to the feeling of chakra exhaustion.

History: Born to Kenta and Yumiko, Izumi and her brother Akihito grew up helping their family with their small onsen. It wasn't particularly exciting work; chopping wood, cleaning, laundry, so much cleaning, but Izumi didn't mind it. Especially when she and her brother got the chance to listen to stories from their many regulars, samurai that once fought alongside their parents. She and Akihito both would pretend to reenact these stories as they played.

These stories lit a fire in the Takashi siblings, both wanting to become samurai and see the world. Maybe they could bring back stories to share with everyone else. While injuries had forced their parents to retire, that didn't stop them from teaching Akihito or Izumi what they could. It didn't take long to realize both siblings had inherited their mother's freezing chakra. Even without the help of ninjutsu, people liked to say her arrows carried the bite of the grave with them.

It wasn't long into their training that new customers started making their way to their little inn. Refugee shinobi weary from the wars in search of quiet. Hayate and Ayame understood the sentiment, among the first in the Land of Iron to welcome the newcomers with open arms. The mineral springs were good for old wounds for both the body and soul.

One day a man that had come all the way from the Hidden Mist had been shocked at the sight of frost dancing across Akihito's blade as he practiced outside. Ice Release, he'd called it. "I thought it'd died out in the Second War," he'd said. He introduced himself as Makoto and offered to teach Akihito how to better use his gift. An offer that was soon extended to Izumi as soon as he saw she carried the same kekkei genkai.

Akihito had raced off the moment the tailed beast began rampaging. Makoto chased after him, saying he might've hung up his own blade as a shinobi but that didn't mean he wasn't going to fight to protect his new home. All that made it back had been her brother's tanto and the water gourd Makoto always wore on his belt. A tailed beast ball had struck them, the messenger explained.

Devastating as the loss was, Izumi refused to change course. If Akihito couldn't see the world, she'd just have to see enough of it for the both of them. There was just the small issue of the Five Great Nations at her country's doorstep.

"Quit squirming and bow your head, you'll live a little longer."
Yusuke Satomi

  • Team: <Unassigned>
    Rank: Mokunoha
    Faction: Samurai

Personality: All his life Yusuke has been told that rules are all that stands between order and chaos and that to be just is to uphold the law without exception giving him an uncompromising nature and making him slow to forget any slight or let any insult pass without comment. Being assured he is inherently correct created a sense of self-righteousness in him making him frequently irritating to anyone daring to think of doing anything not by the book.

Recent events in his life have left Yusuke's worldview shaken by revelations of the coldness that comes from slavish adherence to inflexible rules and is searching for his own definition of justice to uphold.

History: Yusuke is the youngest heir to a family famed, or to many infamous, for their service in the Chūseigumi a military police force dedicated to rooting out dissidents and spies within the Land of Iron with brutal efficiency, those suspected of of slipping secrets out of the country or behind rumblings against the leadership dropped off the face of the earth and only a few were ever seen again and of those almost all were being paraded at public executions.

No matter how many times they say "if you're innocent you have nothing to fear" the Chūseigumi remain feared particularly by the refugees from ninja countries, this fear extended even to Yusuke and most other children she attempted to befriend were quickly cautioned to subtly avoid him. This fearful distance remained for the most part while in academy training aside from a few attempting to kiss up to a potentially influential future figure.

Less than a year before graduation Yusuke was abducted by a small dissident group seeking to trade him as a hostage for their captured comrades but found themselves stonewalled by Yusuke's own family stoically refusing to negotiate no matter what threats or of torment or death were made all of which was relayed to Yusuke's by his increasingly bitter captors. While he was eventually rescued mostly unharmed by his family's apparent refusal to budge even to save his life.

Izanami Kutsuki

It’s a shame how quick some of us abandon our past.
Izanami

  • Team: <Unassigned>
    Rank: Mokunoha
    Faction: Samurai
Personality: It wasn’t many years ago Izanami stubbornly vowed to become a samurai. Driven by a unshakable determination, Izanami fully intends to use her health to bring her clan honor and respect once again.

However, one may not realize this about Izzy at first glance. She plays the part of being careless and gullible extremely well, enough that most don’t notice the impish and childlike traits that are most true to her. She loves to dance, but hates overexerting herself.

What does shine through Izanami’s personality is her utter disdain for ninjas. As a result, this ill feeling applies to ninjutsu as well. Some call her a purist, but Izanami calls it being a real samurai.

History: The Kutsuki Clan was once a clan of warriors. But now, they’re just a pathetic shadow of their former selves. Living in poverty on the fringes of the Land of Iron has done little for their social standing too. Not many people alive still remember the samurai of the Kutsuki Clan. Generations ago, their bloodline was tainted by a disease. The samurai called it Blight, and it caused ones body to slowly break down, destroying their bodies until they die an early death. Izanami is the first child of the clan to ever be born completely immune to the Blight, and in turn is the first child to have an opportunity to live a full lifetime in decades. Due to that fact, the Kuzuki Clan quit having children long ago. However, the attempt to end their line was thwarted by Izanami’s mother. While the clan was angry at first, they quickly changed tones once they realized that she was born completely healthy.

Izanami was delicately, and discreetly raised. Often kept secluded from her more diseased family members in fear that they might infect Izanami. So for the first several years of her life, Izanami developed in solitude. She engraved her clan’s history into memory and studied their combat arts. She proved gifted with the blade, but was discouraged from pursuing the life of a samurai. Her life was too valuable to the clan to be out at risk on the battlefield.

However, Izzy had wanted to be a samurai ever since she was young. There were stories told in her clan about the past, before the Blight took hold. Many of the Kuzuki clan were samurai, and they practiced an ancient style of combat using an odachi. Izzy heard of how well her clan was treated long ago when they weren’t sick and were powerful warriors. The way for her to help her family the most was clear to her then. She could either watch her clan die in obscurity, or she could fight to ensure that her family is never forgotten. For Izzy, the choice was clear.

The puppeteer we've been discussing

Koyome 'formerly Hyuuga' Omozukai

koyome.png

Wanna see my toys?
Koyome

  • Team: <Unassigned>
    Rank: Mokunoha
    Faction: Refugee Ninja
Personality: Acerbic and falsely playful, Koyome often says nice things to people that nevertheless make them feel like they are being made fun of. This playfulness is a thin mask that conceals a deep well of cynicism and distrust. Koyome's own clan only ever valued her for her eyes and her obedience and when those were gone they shut her away like old furniture shived in an attic. Koyome believes the Samurai, for all their talk of honor and chivalry, are no different underneath. The samurai might have taken her in, but it's because they are desperate enough to take a gamble on her potential. Koyome will see their gamble pay off, she will make them, her clan and the rest of the world acknowledge her value, but not for anyone other than herself.

History: Koyome was born to the main branch of the Hyuuga clan, not a direct heir, but close enough to it to warrant extra attention and the expectations that came with it. Koyome did her best to live up to these expectations but there was never any way to win this game. No matter how well Koyome excelled in her training or adhered to the rigid social graces expected of Hyuuga lady it was always merely satisfactory and even the slightest misstep was met with harsh rebukes and punishments. Still Koyome did her best and by any reasonable standard she excelled, graduating the academy a year early and joining a four man team alongside two other promising clan children.

Sadly Koyome's career as a shinobi of konoha was shortlived. Koyome's first C rank escalated suddenly when a smuggling ring they were investigating was revealed to have ties to a larger operation being controlled by members of the puppeteer brigade of Sunagakure. A battle ensued, during which the newly minted genin acquitted themselves about as well as could be expected: they watched each other's backs and stayed out their sensei's way long enough for him to lead the enemy away and then rejoin them. The team returned to Konoha alive, but a stray senbon that had hit Koyome turned out to be laced with a potent poison. The medic nin's did their best, but ultimately Koyome lost the use of her legs, a death sentence for a taijutsu focused shinobi of the Hyuuga.

The clan was disappointed, instead of promising asset Koyome was now an embarrassing depiction of Hyuuga fallibility, they sought to minimise her exposure by keeping her out of the public eye and more or less imprisoned her in her quarters within the compound. Bored and resentful, Koyome distracted herself by playing around with the exotic techniques she'd witnessed in her only real fight. Koyome wove her chakra into thin little threads and whittled little toys and puppets, putting on little shows for the few clan children who sometimes visited her. It was only when Koyome realized that, with the byakugan she could form usable chakra threads from all of her tenketsu, not just the ones in her hands did Koyome begin to suspect she was onto something with real potential.

Koyome experimented and trained in secret for months, refining her master of chakra threads, constructing countless prototypes until finally she could walk, and fight, under her own power once more. Excitedly Koyome demonstrated her new abilities for her parents and the clan's elders, but they did not approved. Sending a cripple out onto the battlefield would only make the clan look desperate and the Hyuuga were anything but desperate. Koyome was firmly instructed to put away these foreign toys and focus on more genteel pursuits: if she could improve her marriage prospects perhaps she could still serve the clan in some small way.

On the surface Koyome agreed to these demands, but secretly she was already planning her defection. No one in the clan paid her any attention and the rest of the village had almost forgotten about her already, so it was trivially easy for Koyome to plan her escape and slip away one night. Koyome might have struggled to evade hunter nin, but the Hyuuga failed to realize she was even missing for nearly twenty four hours: enough time for her to slip into one of the many streams of refugees making their way into the Land of Iron where a new identity and new opportunities awaited her.

    Personality:
Not one to anger quickly, Enkai has the patience to rival anyone. It is no surprise that he has on more then one instance found himself becoming the peacemaker within an argument; this has led to him getting a good fist to the face every time he has tried to barge in and diffuse a brawl. Really, the only thing that can strike an angry chord within him is the endangerment of those that he cares about. A pet peeve that can trigger his anger is when another individual 'barks' louder then they actually bite; in other words talking a big game when in reality they are unable to back it up. He gets inwardly annoyed when others' take their positions for granted and depending on the extent of their actions may decide to chastise them about it.

He doesn't find it too difficult to make new friends, however he isn't going to over exert himself to befriend someone whose personality clashes with his. If overtime, those clashing personalities do relent and they can come to an understanding, he is more then willing to let bygones be bygones. He would prefer to have more friends than enemies thus he tries his best at finding a common ground between himself and another and use that as a foundation to grow the relationship. Should a falling out occur and Enkai strongly feels that he is in the right, he can hold a grudge for several days and give the cold shoulder but will usually crumble afterwards and apologise for being an idiot.

While Enkai inwardly wants to be the ideal 'protector' and to adhere to the Bushido of his ancestors, he is rational enough to accept that small sacrifices may be required for the better good, thus he isn't against tactics that may endanger a few innocents if it can save a hundred more. Despite his age, he is aware that the world itself is not simply clad in black or white rather it is far more gray than what most people would be willing to accept. What may be right for one, may also be abhorrent to another.

That being said, Enkai does have a somewhat sadistic tendency towards those that he has come to view as his enemy. He is not so chivalrous that he would forgo the opportunity to inflict prolonged torture upon those that truly deserve it.

    History:

The son of a former samurai turned wealthy merchant and his kunoichi mistress, Enkai Kaji is one of the many faces among the crowd conscripted into the service of the Land of Iron's military force, a boy whose ancestry had been muddled by his fathers descent into temptation. The scion of the Kaji family, a notorious Samurai household; his father had long since been banished from the family estate for having an affair with an 'outsider' a kunoichi from the land of mist that had defected from her homeland; the nightmares of war having taken its toll upon her.

With the land of Iron's initial indifference to the war's taking place in the shadows, she had come to the Land of Iron seeking a life of peace; one where the darkness of war would remain in the shadows. It would be here that his father, a man betrothed to the eldest daughter of another household would falter; his heart and soul stolen away by the beauty that was Enkai's mother. Bringing shame upon his family, his father was soon banished from the family estate, disowned by his strict father and forbidden from enlisting in the military; as having him represent their house would bring shame upon the family.

Cast aside, yet having found the woman of his dreams; his father accepted the decision, turning to the life of a merchant. Despite being banished from his family household, his father was still able to use the funds he had managed to retain in order to establish a small business within the commoner district of the land of iron. Using whatever relations he still retained, he had managed to etch out a decent living with his wife.

Growing up, Enkai would receive both Ninjutsu and Kenjutsu training; his father passing down whatever lessons he himself had undergone during his youth; whilst his mother would teach him the art of the Ninja; helping him learn chakra control. Whilst neither of them desired their son to ever require such skills; the whispers of a new war beginning to reach the Land of Iron would force their hand.

"Life has tried to kick me down over and over again, but I will always stand tall!"
Tokita Hagami

  • Team: Team Aoba
    Rank: Mokunoha
    Faction: Samurai
Personality: Tokita is an intense young woman of few words, preferring to let her actions speak for themselves which has caused her to have this somewhat combative approach to meeting new faces. This is the result of living years of a harsh life, and often taking out her frustrations when she can something she knows is far from the most mature way to handle such internal strife but still has to learn her people skills not that she'll rush to an apology of sorts.

Behind her stubbornness and her anti-social nature, lies a curious young woman who can find fascination in the most mundane things. Having grown up on the countryside finding something new to discover still fills her with this almost innocent charm of sorts. Once you get past the outer exterior, you can find a more compassionate soul who if she finds you someone she wants to be around will be a good friend to the end. Her iron will and determination never fleeting on this or the battlefield.

History: Tokita grew up in a humble fishing village at the edge of the Land of Waterfalls, it was a modest life but it was one a young girl might've enjoyed at the ignorance of the larger world around her. However, when a band of raiders came to her town chaos ensured; her people had their valuables stolen, their docks torn asunder and those who attempted to resist were slaughtered. This included Tokita's parents, with the young girl only just managing to escape the carnage as she wandered aimlessly and seemed certain to die to the elements.

However, her fortunes took a turn when she encountered a wandering Ronin of the Land of Iron. A traveler who took Tokita under his wind and taught her the ways of the sword, not just so she could better defend herself but to provide someone for her in her time of need. And just when Tokita began to feel that warmth of someone in her presence again, the man vanished after saving her from what seemed to be a skirmish just as she began to find herself. She searched far and wide but it was as if the man was never there, and she began to believe she was this cursed individual who caused misfortune or those she cared for to fade. However, she became determined to live on all the same.

She would train herself off the lessons of her old master, before deciding to check out the home of the samurai in the Land of Iron itself. Wanting to master the craft and gain the strength so she never ever loses anyone again. And who knows, maybe she'll get some insight to what happened to that old Ronin who guided her or even have a chance to form new bonds that won't vanish before her.

Yanma Doromizu

I'm not particularly good at anything, so don't get too excited.
The #1 underachiever

  • Team: Aoba

    Rank: Mokunoha

    Faction: Refugee Ninja

    Personality:

Yanma's a kid with low energy who tries to find time to relax so he can mill over his thoughts. He can get a little edgy if that isn't always doable, and that may make him appear hard to work with, but what he contributes isn't throwing the most punches or conjuring up some flashy techniques. Rather he tries to find the easy way to achieve the goal. It can often make him seem unmotivated, and maybe he is due to his shortcomings, but all he's really doing is taking his time.

The saying "Slow and steady wins the race" applies to his sensibility as a person and warrior. He won't act rash often, but when the cards are stacked against him, some of his old passionate self resurfaces, a 'mode' where he becomes headstrong and can surprise you with the lengths he's willing to go to achieve victory. That being said however, he hates it when people expect too much from him, and can cause him to shut down, becoming standoffish when people are impatient with his way of doing things. He works best if left to his devices, and given enough time he can pull some serious weight.

    History:

Yanma Doromizu was the son of two shinobi from the hidden mist village. His parents feared they would soon be drafted to serve in the war, and attempted to flee with their newborn son. In doing so however they condemned themselves to that exact fate, where they were killed in action, leaving the infant child orphaned.

By the time he was 4, Yanma and many other children, especially orphans, were given ninja training to allow for more soldiers in an increasingly vicious war. The boy became passionate and motivated to be a great ninja, but as time went on he soon realized that he has no outstanding skill or talent that sets him apart. With this realization and the disheartenment of his environment, Yanma's strong desire to be spectacular dwindled. Being upbeat and outgoing was a thing of the past.

As the third great Ninja war raged, Yanma and the next wave of green ninja were sent out to fulfill their duty on the battlefield, and for some, that meant cannon fodder. He was only 6 years of age by now and wasn't expected the last more than a day. After all, he was just an orphan with no talent, only good enough to be a diversion, or perhaps a suicide bomber. It didn't matter to them. Everyone was against him, perhaps his very being there was further punishment for his parents' disgrace. It was a harsh time to be alive, where compassion was dead.

He was subjected to unspeakable atrocities and became a husk, thoughtless, soulless even. By the time his group made it to their destination, in the north, most of them were dead and he hadn't even noticed.

A battle had broken out between them and another group of shinobi, and in a cruel twist of fate, he was given a vest of paper bombs. He was already dead weight, so it was an effective way to attack. Everything was numb to him now, so he followed his orders without question, but the next thing he knew, Yanma was walking through a thick layer of snow. He had at some point unconsciously left the battlefield and even lost the vest that was meant to detonate. Had the ninja he was meant to kill spare him for being a child? Taking the vest and sending him on his way? He couldn't recall. The last thing he remembered about that evening was collapsing in the snow.

The land of Iron, a place once void of ninja and jutsu and instead home to the legendary samurai. On a patrol, one of these samurai had found the boy, thinking he was a corpse initially, but soon realized the truth that Yanma was alive, but barely. He was taken in and nursed back to health as many other refugee from the war. By the time his mind cleared, he had no recollection of his past. The last thing he could recall was standing in the snow, only to fall face first into it, and the only thing that could tie him to the past was his mist headband.

Now many years later, Yanma has grown to be an easy going kid, not smiling much, but mostly content. Training to be a samurai and focusing on the fundamentals of chakra control and academy level jutsu. Being just good enough to get away with a few more naps that usual.

See you in hell, suckers!
Ringo

  • Team: Squad Aoba
    Rank: Mokunoha
    Faction: refugee ninja
    Personality:
A highly ambitious and short-tempered girl with power and revenge as her goals. Ringo enjoys riling up people and oftenly insults her opponent because of this. Hell, she oftenly throws snide remarks and sarcasm whenever the chance presents itself. She loves challenging people and loves being challenged. She rarely have people that she considers as friend so she can be quite clingy to whoever she takes as one. She's very protective to the people she cares about and would go great length to destroy anyone who harms them, even if it takes years.

Due to her being born into powerful clan, she can be quite spoiled and even after all these time living away from her hometown she stills lament about how she missed her lavish lifestyle. Sometimes she buy expensive stuffs just so she can get a glimpse of her past.

"A lion doesn't concern itself with the opinion of the sheeps." is her favorite line that she heard from her father.

    History:
Ringo Nakano... isn't her real name, it's Kiara. She was born as one of the child in the main branch of the Genkei family, a notorious clan from Amegakure that supplies a big chunk of ninja tools in the market. The clan employs a highly meritocrathic system among themself and every child was pushed to learn as much as possible about running business and putting people under their control.

When the great ninja war began the family didn't miss the chance to reap as much profit as possible by supplying all sides with their products. Their wealth grow exponentially, but cracks started to appear. Fast. With so much money at stakes and the family head assassinated, the question about who would rule the family next become much more important. The pressure sent the eldest son into paranoia, secretly he schemed the death of his siblings to secure his position. He managed to eliminate the second and third heir, but the youngest two managed to escape his grasp in different dirctions.

Kiara accompanied by one of her butler blend into the crowd that seek refugee in the land of iron. Ideally, their plan was to lay low and live peacefully, but Kiara can't stay still with the thought of killing her brother swiling in her mind. She needs to get stronger, she needs to prepare, she needs to act. Thus she joined the academy as one of the mokunoha and start a new life as Ringo Nakano.

Niko Hokori

Doesn't matter if you wanna fight, debate ideologies, or have an eating competition… I’ll probably win.
Niko

  • Team: Nadeshiko
    Rank: Mokunoha
    Faction: Refugee Ninja

Personality: Niko is a bit of a complex character. While he doesn’t necessarily see others as less important than himself, he simply takes great pride in the abilities he’s been granted. He views most of his peers as obstacles at best and annoyances at worst. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing in his eyes- as he would say, “obstacles are made to be overcome”.

While it’s true that the young Hokori-Nin is a bit overconfident, he has no problem backing up his words with action. His braggadocious personality has gotten him into sticky situations more times than he’d be willing to admit. Because of this, he’s learned to be quite resourceful and is able to think on his feet under moments of intense stress.

All in all? Niko isn’t much different from those around him; a prideful young man trying to prove himself in this big, crazy world.

History: The Hokori were originally a branch family of the Akamichi, shamed for their lack of Calorie Control skills and their thin, frail bodies. After years of mistreatment, the Akimichi branch family eventually cut ties with the main household, fleeing from the Land of Fire to the Land of Wind.
No more than two generations after diverging, the branch family had already become nearly unrecognizable; possessing muscular, athletic bodies that greatly contrasted their recent ancestors.

This was all thanks to the genius of Iketetsu Akimichi; a branch member who was highly skilled in Sealing Jutsu.

During the early years of the branch family's life away from Konaha, Iketetsu spent her time developing a Hiden for her family. She utilized complex seals in order to essentially drip-feed members of the clan with Yang Chakra. This Hiden would come to be known as ‘Durga’s Carving’.

What was originally intended to simply make the thin and feeble become stronger and more capable, ended up providing them with powers far beyond their expectations.

Durga’s Carving was intended to subtly magnify the bearers Yang chakra in hopes of increasing vitality, but it ended up providing a large excess of Yang chakra that would build up in the seal over time. This excess power could be used for a number of Yang-based abilities, such as limb duplication of r enhanced regeneration.

Once the carving had been perfected, the clan quickly grew in size, strength and notoriety; going so far as to take on the new household name ‘Hokori’.

In time, the connection between the Hokori and Akimichi clan was all but forgotten, as the former had arguably grown to have a more notable reputation.

The family had made it their goal to produce a large and powerful Clan that would stand against other titans of their era. They would do whatever it took to right the wrongs of the past, to prove their power and take the respect they rightfully earned…

This came in the form of mercenary work, mostly. While it did pay the bills and build their reputation, it also made them feared by many. Alliances were slim, with their only major connections residing in the Suna, where most of their jobs come from.

It was no secret that the great villages often schemed against one another behind closed doors. But when tensions grew just a little too high? When loose-ends needed to be dealt with? When battles needed to be fought by those who couldn’t afford to start wars? They called upon mercenary groups like the Hokori; groups who they had no direct affiliation with. Groups that could get work done with unbiased efficiency… and the Hokori were more than willing to fill that role.

Naturally, this led to a kind of unspoken alliance between the Hokori and certain higher ups in Suna. After a while, they let their guards down amongst one another. Hokori clan members were allowed to freely enter Suna and interact with its residents at their leisure and many residents of the desert village would often make the trip out to the Hokori’s estate in order to seek their services directly.

Sadly, both sides would soon come to regret ever having known one another…

On a day like any other, the people of Suna would be left in shock as village officials made a disturbing announcement. One of the Kazekage’s advisors, and his entire family, had been found dead in their home earlier that day. Amongst the heap of mangled corpses was none other than the body of a Hokori Mercenary. He had suffered a stab wound through the heart that matched the blade wielded by the advisor's son. Along with that, a contract was found on the mercenaries body, further confirming that this had been a betrayal by the Hokori clan.

Sunagakure was in uproar, with the Kazekage himself coming forth to state that all Hokori were to be captured on sight so they could be “held accountable” for their appalling actions.

It was mere hours later when the Hokori estate had just about the entirety of Suna’s police force knocking on their door. Elder Yaru, head of clan Hokori, denied having any knowledge of the contract; seemingly just as shocked as the residents of Suna upon discovering that one of her kin had been found dead at the scene of the crime. Yaru claimed it had to have been foul play as no contract was carried out without her permission. The police of Suna ignored the elders' plea, simply urging for the elder to quietly come with them.

This back and forth didn’t last long as one of Suna’s guards moved to restrain Yaru, causing all hell to break loose. Punches were thrown left and right, smoke bombs were launched and substitutions were cast. In the end, both parties managed to avoid any major bloodshed, but around a third of the Hokori clan was taken into custody, with the rest fleeing from their estate and from the Land of Wind altogether.

In the blink of an eye, the Akimichi branch family had lost almost everything and was back at square one.

Yaru, who managed to escape her captors, set her sights on the Land of Iron. The well-informed elder had caught wind of the fact that it had recently become a hotspot for refugees. Once they got established, they would begin searching for answers as to which one of their various enemies had set them up. But if all else fails… they could at least begin preparations to rescue their family by force.

The clan elder was quick to establish roots on the outskirts of a downtrodden refugee town called Wakahirume. And like a well-oiled machine, campsites were established, the plans for a new home were in the works and Yaru began training up the weakest and least experienced members of the clan in order to make up for some of the manpower they had lost.

Among those who fled was the niece of the clan elder, Shinu Hokori, her husband, Ojiro and their son, Niko.

Niko was currently the youngest active member of the clan and regarded as a bit of a prodigy amongst his family. When they were forced to flee from their home, Shinu didn’t want to cause her son any more stress, so she lied to him about the bodies that had been discovered; claiming that their clan had merely been framed for an attempted assassination. While Shinu was a Hokori warrior, she was also a mother who was determined to lessen any burden that might weigh down her son.

Niko knew what kind of work his family did and he knew they likely had enemies, so it was expected of him to show nothing but maturity and bravery… and he would do just that.

What the fuck is a genjutsu.
Yoshitsune Watanuki

  • Team: <Unassigned>

    Rank: Mokunoha

    Faction: Samurai

Personality: "Too many people talk alot and expect people to just stand there so everyone will listen. it's stupid! Do you sit there and let your enemy rattle off years of reasons for why their there? no! Punch em in the jaw! it doesn't matter why their there just do it! Its why MY family doesn't HAVE enemies. We dealt with them right away. No bullshit. Don't let your enemy go so they can continue plotting, the dagger they shove in your back is the Wage of mercy." he was taught to follow a simple path, and a simple path he follows. The most direct way to finish a mission is the way he goes about it. he isn't one for sitting there and thinking of a thing to get done or fretting about it.

    He does it.

Such is the way of his family, all of whom who are very well known for being hot headed and forthwith with quite litterally all things. Theres very little in what could be considered secrets in the family, if there are, they are likely forgotten about. And such is the way of Yoshitsune. if he wants something, he asks for it, if he knows something, he'll speak of it, if he doesn't know something he'll find it out by asking. If it doesn't include him, why should he care? His life is his life. Those who worry and posture all the time care too much. if you have an enemy? Defeat them, completely, or make them no longer an enemy.

His family's tempers run high, and its the same in him. But when one makes them a friend, you will find friends who will sooner die than betray you. As long as you don't steal food from them anyways.

History: Born to the Watanuki clan as the third born son of the head, the family is and remains a moderately sized house amongst the village, if mostly from the sheer size and length of service of many of their members. Quoted as "Equal to none in matter of loyalty and stubbornness" the house remains a font of able bodied young men, women and in between looking to defend their beloved country.

Yoshi, trained from the earliest days he could wield a sword, is one such a man. He and his many sisters stand as testiments to the martial history of the clan, and are not willing to give up that fact any time soon.

And the way of the sword was his life... Amongst various other unrelated things such as learning to be a person in general. But how he gained the family sword is a story thats... remarkably short. You see, his elder sisters, upon seeing the sword... outright refused to even touch it. Really you can't blame them, nobody would lest they have their tetanus shots up to date. Going down the line of handme downs, the third born of the clan's newest generation took it upon himself to wield it...

Largely because his father didn't really give him a choice and he didn't want to wait to get one commissioned. he was given one simple test. "If you can break it, I'll get you a new one from the greatest smith in the world." and so, Yoshi tests his blade on quite litterally everything.. Hopeing the old thing will finally snap in two...

As you might imagine, this hasn't happened yet.
